The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Goodwin Fire until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. A tag has been placed on File:Goodwin Fire smoke.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://metro.co.uk/2017/06/29/goodwin-fire-map-shows-intensity-of-blaze-consuming-prescott-area-6744588/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors

Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.

We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 04:08, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-tagged this image as orphaned fair use. Three times now you have attempted to place this image on Mug shot [1][2][3], and it's been removed every time. You are engaged in an edit war in an attempt to force this image onto the article. This is completely unacceptable. Furthermore, the image is a non-free image and as such must meet all requirements for the use of non-free images as stipulated at WP:NFCC. As one editor noted on the article's history, this image clearly fails WP:NFCC #1. Further, there simply isn't any need for the image on the article. The article already has sufficient images on it, and adding this mugshot does nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the article. This means it also fails WP:NFCC #8. Please stop adding this image to the article. If you have questions, ask. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 20:00, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If its deleted thats fine, but I just wanna have a clear understanding on why it fails NFCC#1? As far as I am aware, there is no free equivalent picture of the shnaggyhose mugshot. I wasnt't engaging in an edit war. The first time it got removed for no reason, the second time it got removed again for no reason, the third time it got removed was because I wasn't supporting the claim that it went viral during December of 2023, so I added it back and supported the claim. And now it got removed because its non free? Just because the photo is 'non free' doesn't mean it can't be used in the article. Also, the lead picture is an old picture, which mugshots do not look like that today, so the shnaggy mugshot supports NFCC#8, because the mugshot provides an understanding of what they tend to mostly look like (A person if front of a gray background). I think the old picture should obviously be in the history section of the article. I hope we can come to a consensus with this photo to see if it can be in the article or not. JoleBruh (talk) 21:40, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for asking! In short, no it cannot. Let's look at it from the replaceable standpoint; are there free license of public domain mug shots in the world? Yes, we literally have thousands of them. Therefore, per WP:NFCC #1, we can't use a non-free image of a mug shot just because it's a mug shot. Is there some other reason to use it? Is there something particular about this mug shot that's not available in any other mug shot? I think the answer to that is an obvious no, given the thousands of options we have available. That is, unless having ShnaggyHose himself brings something to the topic that all the other mug shot options do not. That's an extremely hard case to make because ShnaggyHose isn't apparently notable enough that they have their own article here. So, why are we including a non-free image of a (by Wikipedia standards) non-notable person? If this mug shot we notable in its own right, then there might be an argument for an article about the mug shot where the mug shot image of course would be placed. Such is the case with Mug shot of Donald Trump. But, there's no article about this mug shot, so there's no place for the image to sit. Just because there isn't a free license version of this file does not grant a reason to use it here. We need more than that. As to the edit war, if you keep on getting reverted and you keep on restoring it...whether there was an explanation or not...you are engaged in an edit war. Some administrators would have already blocked you for a short period for engaging in that behavior. I strongly recommend not to do it again. Have a read through WP:BRD; if you get reverted, discuss the issue. Don't try to force the issue. As to this image satisfying NFCC #8; sure, it does. But, as mentioned...so do potentially thousands of other images that we do have free licenses for. So, this image doesn't bring anything to the table that's unique enough to warrant having a non-free image for this purpose. Also note that per the Wikimedia Foundation's (the organization that owns Wikipedia) Foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy#Resolution policy, the use of non-free images of living people is rarely allowed. --Hammersoft (talk) 00:58, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. After reading through now I understand the issue with making the image the lead image of the article. I do have one question though, is it possible for the mug shot to have it's own article? Because I have seen some reliable sources online talking about it, just wanting to know. Again, thanks for the response. JoleBruh (talk) 01:16, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If there are multiple reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject that discuss the mug shot in particular, as opposed to his arrest, then maybe. You could try creating Draft:Mug shot of ShnaggyHose. But, be aware; unless there's an article about ShnaggyHose, it's unlikely an article about a mug shot of him could gain traction. Possible, but not likely. I haven't cast about looking for such sources for an article about him, but it may be difficult; with only 175k followers on Twitch, he might not have much of a footprint. --Hammersoft (talk) 01:45, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or actually, about that resolution thing, is it possible to bring up the photo to the resolution to see if they can accept the photo to be on the mug shot article? And I don't know if this changes anything but as soon as the image was in the article, it brought in thousands of views, so I dont know if that's notable enough to make it the lead image. JoleBruh (talk) 02:09, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How many pageviews an article got as related to a particular change in the article is speculation at best. No, we can't include an image based on how many pageviews something gets. As to the Foundation, if you want to attempt to convince them you're free to do so. However, given the resolution has been in place for 15 years, it's unlikely they're going to change it to allow an exception for a single article on one of the many projects they oversee. Their contact page is [4]. You would have a far higher chance of success by discussing the issue at WT:NFC. Though, really, that's a very low chance as well. I mean no disrespect, but you're just not understanding the particulars of non-free content on this project and why it is so important. WT:NFC would offer a chance where someone else might be able to explain this to you better than I can. --Hammersoft (talk) 04:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try the second option, thank you for suggesting that. I also agree I need to learn more about non-free content. Again, thanks. JoleBruh (talk) 06:15, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Cuffem Dreadlocks.png

Thank you for uploading File:Cuffem Dreadlocks.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Belbury (talk) 14:51, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use

Hi, it seems like you're missing or misunderstanding the first point of WP:NFCC:

Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose.

For an article like hair loss where you're uploading a copyrighted screenshot of a YouTuber to illustrate what Type 2a hair loss looks like, a free equivalent is very easily created - we find a man with type 2a hair loss and take a photo of him. This would serve the same purpose, in that article, as the photo of the YouTuber.

Photos of men with that style of hair loss will also definitely already be available on Wikimedia Commons or Flickr under free licences, if we look. Belbury (talk) 09:21, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
