    Regency of Algiers knackered ref

Morning folks!! Does anybody know how to fix the 2nd Saidouni ref on the Regency of Algiers article. Its a script chapter error. 2 editors have looked and no joy. scope_creepTalk 02:58, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is the help link and the template documentation not helpful? Also, |title= in that template should be |script-title= because Arabic-script text.

@Trappist the monk: Not really. I thought the docs would have helped but I couldn't fix it, nor could Nourerrahmane. Its now been fixed in the interim. A simple fix as well. Its great when you know. Thanks for quick reply. Its really welcome. scope_creepTalk 03:41, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Fixed. Mathglot (talk) 07:24, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why not? What about the help text and template doc was not helpful?

    Missing notes

I've added two notes to 2024 County Championship using the {{efn}} template, but these don't appear in the corresponding {{notelist}} (although they can be accessed inline). I've come across this issue before, a while ago, which someone fixed for me. However, I don't recall being told what had caused it. Many thanks to anyone who can assist!!

@Edwin of Northumbria:  Fixed. You called for {{notelist}} a second time right beneath the Division One table. I removed it and it looks like the notes are where they should be. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 06:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu: Many thanks . I added the Notes section at the end of the article but totally missed the earlier invocation as it's not where you'd expect to find it, and as far as I can tell it wasn't actually being used!!

    Taking a break

What precautions should I take to not get my account deleted if I leave Wikipedia for a long period time? I am taking a temporary break, but not sure how long does it takes. Imperial[AFCND] 11:57, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ImperialAficionado: Wikipedia doesn't delete accounts, wether for inactivity or something else. Assuming you remember your login details, and that your account wasn't compromised and locked, you can always log back in. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I am not able to reply to something that I must should've, due to the long term inactivity, does that cause any harm to my account? Imperial[AFCND] 12:38, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only circumstances I can think of where failing to reply would cause a problem for your account would be if you had done quite a lot of disruptive edits, and somebody was asking you to explain yourself or you would get reported and possibly blocked. But in any other case, no.
What people sometimes do is put a message on their user page saying that they're on a break from Wikipedia - you can use Template:wikibreak or one of its family. But there is no requirement to do this. ColinFine (talk) 14:06, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:RETIRE. However, even if a Wikipedian has not edited for years, the account still exists and could be used again if they still have the login details.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 14:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Article already exists

I accidentally wrote an article in english and french, without realizing it already existed on 6 other wikipedias. How do i turn it from its own article to a translation of the existing one? Flag of Baja California Sur already exists in spanish and other languages MallardTV (talk) 16:24, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MallardTV, different language articles on the same subject are linked via Wikidata items. Where there are two Wikidata items for the same subject they can be merged, so I have done so. TSventon (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will note that there is no requirement for articles in different languages to be kept in sync. More to the point, articles in different languages are inherently independent. Even notability (i.e. that the article should exist at all, in a particular language) is independent, though of course, an editor might choose to create an article in a language for which it doesn't already exist based on a version that exists in another language, but this does not lessen the need to meet the requirements for the article it is translated to.
What does concern me, at least a little bit, is that the English-language page overwrote a pre-existing redirect. In most cases, that would probably not be an issue. In this case, the target of the redirect was State flags of Mexico, and there may be an established "convention" on enwiki not to have separate articles for each state flag of Mexico. I am not saying that this is definitely an issue but it might be. Fabrickator (talk) 17:40, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, there are other Mexican states which have a separate article for their flag. Fabrickator (talk) 18:33, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft: Charles Robert Kemble

I'm unclear as to why this article was declined. The subject is one of the few surviving WWII combat veterans with a storied military, academic and public service career. The sources are primary links to original material. Given the gaps in 20th century persona, particularly individuals with pre-internet biographical footprints, this seems a worthwhile addition to Wikipedia.

    Draft:Charles Robert Kemble

    Shroedingerskat (talk) 19:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Shroedingerskat: You had deleted the reviewers message that explained why it was declined. I've restored it. RudolfRed (talk) 20:49, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] Briefly, in Wikipedia "Notable" doesn't mean "important" (which Kemble may well be) – it means roughly "has been written about by independent third parties at some length in several unconnected pieces published in Reliable sources."
Wikipedia articles are supposed to be mostly summaries of the content of those secondary sources. Primary sources can be used to a limited extent to corroborate specific facts, but not to support Notability. "Independent" means unconnected to the subject: this excludes the subject's own words, interviews with the subject, and anyone with direct connections to the subject such as educators, family, friends, employers, employees, etc.
I notice that you've deleted the entire submission panel with the 'Decline' by the (very experienced) reviewer Drmies and explanations by Drmies and Pbritti. You should not do this: apart from also removing the button for resubmitting the draft following improvements, it may be considered a deceitful concealment of the decline. I suggest you revert your deletion immediately [rendered unnecessary by RudolfRed's restoration].
Note that "Decline" means "needs further improvement." If it were thought that the subject could not merit a Wikipedia article, it would instead have been "Rejected". Note also that I myself am not a reviewer, and have not double-checked Drmies' evaluation of so-far undemonstrated Notability and the primacy of too many sources, but I have no reason to doubt them.
If you can find suitable sources as described above and in the linked Project pages, I'm sure that you'll be able to raise the Draft to Wikipedia's required Article standards, and that it will indeed become a worthwhile addition. Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 151.227.134.31 (talk) 20:55, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Where are the secondary sources that establish notability? I don't understand many of these references. There's a note about a 1978 mission, and the source is supposedly something by a Tara Shockley, but the citation is entirely unclear; it's cited as a magazine/newspaper, but "Lamar University Press" is obviously not the name of a publication, and this link--well, click on it. The only note that looks like a secondary source is this, "Marie, Cimarusti (July 2021). "A Salute to Charles Robert Kemble". Sandia Heights & High Desert Living: 4–7", but "Sandia Heights & High Desert Living" seems to be a community newsletter. Drmies (talk) 22:08, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kemble's noteworthiness seems related to Lamar University. That's an article that isn't all bad, but has much that's unreferenced or inherently omissible or both. And in at least one place it's written in the first person plural, strongly suggesting that it's just undigested PR material (which by that point comes as no surprise). 126.205.254.12 (talk) 05:44, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get to be writing for Wikipedia?

    Writing for Wikipedia 197.231.239.48 (talk) 06:34, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You may be looking for WP:HOW. HansVonStuttgart (talk) 08:28, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am just a regular user of Wikipedia, i.e. I have no official role or any special authority. That said, before you get too involved in figuring out how to navigate the process of either creating a new article or making significant revisions to an existing article, I'm going to suggest you follow on right here at the Help Desk, looking over questions from others interested in acting as an editor.
You will commonly see requests for how to go about creating a new article. Frequently, these requests will come from people who are acting on behalf of the subject of the article they are interested in. While this can be done (assuming the notability requirement is met), it often doesn't work out as hoped.
In addition to looking at the requests currently posted and watching for new questions that come in, you could also look back in the "archived discussions" portion of the Help Desk archives (probably best to change the sorting order to sort by edit date). Reading over these questions might save you, from incorporating content that doesn't have a neutral point of view or from writing an article for which the subject does not meet the specific notability requirements imposed by Wikipedia. (Many people feel very confident that the subject of their article is notable and merits an article, they write an article, and then they're told that no, it doesn't meet these criteria.) I'm not so much trying to discourage you as to help to set your expectations. Fabrickator (talk) 18:18, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If the followers are editing WIkipedia, then their duty is to follow Wikipedia policies. What their duty may be to some other authority is irrelevant to Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 17:55, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'll say a bit more: if a Wikipedia editor has a duty to some outside authority that affects their Wikipedia editng, then they have a conflict of interest, and shoould declare that openly, and follow the guidance in the page I just linked to.
If their duty to the outside authority prevents them from following Wikipedia's policies when they edit Wikipedia, then they should not edit Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 17:59, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing typos on a protected page

Should I request on the talk page, or should I request elsewhere when I find a typo? It feels weird doing it for a single comma. 75.142.254.3 (talk) 07:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, requesting on the talk page is correct (it's perfectly fine, and encouraged, even if it's just a comma). You can place an edit request template in your request manually (list is at WP:MAKINGEREQ), or use the edit request wizard, which will do that automatically, in order to draw attention to the request. Tollens (talk) 07:05, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(alternatively, you could describe the issue right here since that's probably easier now.) Tollens (talk) 07:06, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was a comma on an article: World Central Kitchen drone strikes
"Update - Last sentence of diplomatic fallout section.
From: On 6 April Wong stated that she and Minister for Defence Richard Marles had written to their Israeli equivalents calling for further action to be taken against the individuals responsible for the attack.
To: On 6 April, Wong stated that she and Minister for Defence Richard Marles had written to their Israeli equivalents calling for further action to be taken against the individuals responsible for the attack.
Reason: A comma should be after the word April in this case."
Already posted it there by using an earlier request as the format. Maybe in the future I'll just look for 3 or 4 typos before making the request?
    75.142.254.3 (talk) 07:10, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed now. You could look for more if you'd like, but there's no harm in making a request for something minor, requests like that are made all the time. Thanks for catching the error! Tollens (talk) 07:13, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the UK, children are taught that commas like that (following a fronted adverbial phrase) are necessary. Every decent style guide I've ever read says that they're optional however - use them or don't, it's a stylistic choice. Many of our Featured Articles are written without them, please don't go around adding them willy-nilly to content someone else has written. Girth Summit (blether) 09:14, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks! I had no idea. I guess it's more than just the UK. It looks like that article is split roughly 50/50 with regard to using or not using the comma. Looking through the paragraph that change was in, there is another instance which doesn't, so I'll self-revert. Tollens (talk) 09:39, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Without the comma it is possible to read that April Wong made the statement. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 09:48, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any problem with the addition in this case. I've just seen situations where someone starts dropping punctuation bombs on FAs that have just been through a lengthy review because they disagree on the stylistic choices made by the authors and half-dozen reviewers. I typically use them myself when I'm writing, but if the only reason for adding a comma is because a fronted adverbial phrase and they must be followed by a comma, I would urge people not to bother. Cite error at Lalu Prasad Yadav

Can anyone remove red link from the citation number 55 and 67. Admantine123 (talk) 09:55, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Admantine123: If you use {{Cite journal}} you MUST include the |journal= parameter. Temporarily I've changed the {{Cite journal}} to {{Citation}} to get rid of the red, but knowledgeable input is required to select the correct Cite XXX template. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:10, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Can you fix it, I tried myself but wasn't successful. Admantine123 (talk) 10:11, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Follow the doi link to the journal publisher and oddly enough you will find the journal title. In these two cases, someone thought it a good idea to concatenate the journal title onto the article title. Don't do that. Also, in both cases, the values assigned to |first= and |last= were swapped. Don't do that.
Changing {{cite journal}} to {{citation}} just to rid yourself of a meddlesome error message does not serve the readers who consume our citations using the metadata. In this case, the missing |journal= causes {{citation}} to render a book-style reference and book-encoded metadata; both of which are wrong. Don't do that.

    Stable and shorter URL's

Hello, I was wondering, and hoping, that Wikipedia has some sort of provision to shorten very long URLs Not long ago I tried using an online resource that shortens, and presumably stabilizes, incredibly long urls, but when I attempted to post this source, with the shorter URL in an article's Bibliography, a warning message resulted, in bold red letters, saying that this shortened url is blocked. Is this always the rule? Presently I am trying to list a book source, but its url is 360 (!) characters long, and is no doubt very unstable. Any help along this line would be greatly appreciated. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:36, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwillhickers, it is rare to need such a long url for a book. Can you give us an example of the one you are trying to use. There may be a more direct way to access it. StarryGrandma (talk) 20:03, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
StarryGrandma — Yes, such a lengthy url for a book is rare indeed. The URL in question is for a PDF version of the book. I'm simply going to use the plain 'google book', with a practical url, (aprox 30 characters) and let the readers if they so chose to select the PDF file themselves This is the url in question
    https://books.googleusercontent.com/books/content?req=AKW5QacfFtI0jPcRseeGF94PT6X-2lwXDqTFMbEV_SOvJpGrUT6kqtetpHujeiMhoKCuC8YZbJuZv5tyKTqgrDMlc3cK3iiyI9xJZjw4DJ1vvtwmzveejuWNm38TRqS0zVaC_4T8-O89ZZByFSdRc1HtC-OSrZFNjGbeqGNkuyOSJLlBM6vS6GtxRnGMTbouHSc2OOR5Yq8hLZG50y8OzVqplXxT59-wXEunFBmGLXxgWJv6VCzc8swR2vHophDlotBTV_11nCCcn8vSLcecPere-wjXPSw4BkLi9nBElJMjhatqXCE9ns8
In any case, it would be nice to know of a way to shorten URLs which can be used on WP with no issues. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:16, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Gwillhickers. Note that in most cases, a URL is not an essential part of a citation, but a convenience for the reader. The important content is the bibliographic information like title, author, publisher, date, page etc. If you have given all that information, then if the URL rots, it should be relatively easy to find a working version (assuming the book is available on the internet at all). ColinFine (talk) 20:53, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ColinFine — In passing I've lost count of the times where a reviewer has made an issue about not being able to link to the source in question, which is the only way to determine if the citation is accurate for any given statement(s). GA's and FA's routinely have their sources with links included. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:16, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gwillhickers: Url shorteners are disallowed in Wikipedia for good reasons. Do not use them even if you find one which isn't blacklisted yet. They do not stabilize links. They redirect to a fixed url. If that url stops working then the url shortener keeps redirecting to it anyway. Here are some of the disadvantages of using a url shortener:
    • The Wikipedia:Spam blacklist could be bypassed by linking to a redirect at a url shortener instead of a blacklisted site.
    • Special:Linksearch and other tools cannot be used to find links to a site if they go via a url shortener. If a website moves or reorganizes their url's, we often use such tools to locate and fix all links to the site, so our links would become less reliable with url shorteners. If a website closes, we can look for alternatives.
    • If the url shortener closes or is down then the link is dead and you cannot see where it was supposed to go even if the original target still works fine.
    • Readers cannot see where they will end up if they hover over a link before clicking it.
    • Readers may be tracked by a company running a url shortener.

PrimeHunter Thanks. Blacklisting, etc, is all I really wanted to confirm. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:32, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Problems with another user

A user has labelled legitimate sources as "garbage propaganda", "left-wing", "dumb propaganda" and "absurd" I was wondering what the best course of action was? I have started a request for discussion for one of these issues on an article but under the block log they have previous for "Personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy" and I don't want to see a repeat. Most of the edit summaries they give are not helpful either. LouisOrr27 (talk) 21:08, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

LouisOrr27 — Yes, I've encountered such criticisms, from both the left and the right. Trying to claim that a source is not reliable simply by referring to it as "right wing", "left wing", extremist, exaggerated, etc, is only a superficial criticism. If it can be shown that a source is actually in error, etc, then that is the way to deal with any given issue. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:37, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One criticism of the BBC is not, or anyway not directly (and certainly not solely), about its "wing", but rather its alleged propensity for "making up rubbish and telling lies". -- Hoary (talk) 23:52, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Robert baron3888, Wikipedia articles are meant to be written with a neutral, objective, third-party point of view. People closely connected to or having a strong feeling, negative or positve, about a subject may be unable to do so, and accordingly get reverted. Please use the talk page of the article in question to discuss edits, such as when they get reverted. If an editor represents the interests of a subject, they should WP:DISCLOSE their conflict of interest as instructed before they engage with the topic, whether it be editing the article or discussing it on the talk page or elsewhere. Robert baron3888, are you asking why it is that (i) some sincere followers and experts who represent Srila Prabhupada make corrections and then (ii) the corrections are reverted back to the original? If so, then (i) maybe out of a desire to inform, maybe out of a desire to promote. (Either way, Usedtobecool explains above what these people must do.) Haggerty Award correction

I don't know who writes or edits the Haggerty Award page on Wikipedia, but our association is appreciative. An update/correction is needed on the page. The NIT no longer co-presents the Haggerty Award. The NIT affiliation with the award was discontinued after 2021. The Met Basketball Writers Association is now the sole presenter of the award. Thank you MBWA president 67.86.4.111 (talk) 01:57, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You can see the usernames of the various people who have edited the article Haggerty Award by looking at its "history".
Unfortunately for you, your question has had the unforeseen consequence of me examining the article and questioning whether it should be in Wikipedia at all. As far as I can see not a single one of the references is about "The Haggerty Award" as opposed to individual winners - and without such references, it does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability.
To answer your question more directly: you are welcome to make suggestions for edits to the article using the edit request wizard. But in my opinion, anything you do other than finding a source where somebody wholly unconnected with the award has chosen to write at some depth about the award itself (not its winners) will be a waste of time. See golden rule for the criteria that any such source must meet. ColinFine (talk) 11:11, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of entry on Orange Mound Tower

Hi! I received the following message from an editor, and would really appreciate tips on neutrality and updating the attempted entry to be in the guidelines of Wikipedia. I'm a student attempting to give the subject its due writing, not promote the work being done. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm REDACTED403. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Orange Mound, Memphis—has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thank you. -REDACTED403 (talk) 12:29, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for taking a look at the page! May I ask you note specific instances, and what shifts in language, I can make to make it neutral? It is definitely not my intention too as I am student looking to expand the canon on particular types of architecture, and through this, I have nominated Orange Mound Tower.

    — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harmonytheestudent (talkcontribs) 05:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Harmonytheestudent, some samples: Unapologetic, founded by producer IMAKEDMADBEATS, also known as James Duke, is an art collective based in Memphis, Tennessee, consisting of visual artists, musicians, clothing designers, event coordinators, and strategists that herald an artist-first platform, allowing talent a part of the collective to express authentic artistic and cultural synergy that is not typically found inside traditional labels.
I don't understand what it is that they herald (or that it heralds}. But it's only tenuously about a neighborhood, so it doesn't belong here.
Unapologetic is comprised of four teams: Unapologetic. Sound, Unapologetic. Visual, Unapologetic. Garments, and The Unapologetic World App.
More about something that isn't a neighborhood.
TONE and Unapologetic have voiced their intention to transform the former industrial space into a mixed-use hub for community arts, business, and innovation, among other ideas. In a July 2021 interview with the Commercial Appeal, Victoria Jones, co-founder, stated, “We want to build out something that could serve all needs, or as many needs as possible in one space.” She went on to add, “We will have retail and service providers, nonprofits, art organizations, a wellness center. We want to be the thing that can truly empower and fill the potholes that exist in Black communities.”
Bluntly, we're minimally interested in intentions, except perhaps when these intentions have been described by people independent of those who harbor them. (And interviews don't count.)
Incidentally, while I'm sure that Jones wanted to say that the thing should truly both {empower and {fill the potholes that exist in}} Black communities, she ends up seeming to aspire to empowering potholes. So if what she says is worth expressing here (which I doubt), I suggest that you summarize it in your own, less awkward words.
Et cetera. All the best with the revision! -- Hoary (talk) 04:50, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to change my company (Metropolitan Oval)'s logo on the page from the incorrect red, low-res logo to a high-res correct logo that can be found at the top of the page here --> [1]. I keep getting an error message when editing the logo saying that Wikipedia can't verify that I own the logo. While I personally do not own the logo, I am in possession of a high-res correct version and feel that it is important to update it. Is there any work-around to this issue? Anthony42710 (talk) 04:45, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anthony42710. If the logo is essentially as the one currently being used with only minor changes (e.g changing the color from red to black), you can try just updating the current file clicking on "Update a new version of this file" at File:Met Oval Logo.png; however, the current file is uploaded as non-free content, which means it's use needs to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. There are ten non-free content use criteria and one of these criteria is criterion #3 which deals with things like file size and resolution. Wikipedia, in priciple, only allows low-resolution versions of non-free content to be uploaded as explained here. If you upload a new version of the logo that is too be or too high in resolution, someone (a WP:BOT or human editor) will re-size it and reduce it's resolution so that it complies with relevant policy. If the logo you want to upload is quite different than the one currently being used, you should probably upload it as a new file and you can request that someone do this for you at WP:FFU.
Now, having posted that, it's quite possible that current logo is actually too simple to be eligible for copyright protection under US copyright law; so, if the new version you want to upload is also essentially the same, then it too would most likely be too simple for copyright protection. In such a case, the new version should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons instead of Wikipedia because Commons is better suited to host such content. You might want first ask about this c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright just to see what some others think. If the prevailing opinion is that the new version is too simple, you can upload it using c:Commons:Upload under a copyright license of c:Template:PD-logo.
Finally, since you've stated you're an employee of Metropolitan Oval, you should carefully read through Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure before trying to make any edits to any content about the company on Wikipedia. Your connection to the company doesn't matter so much to Commons, but it does matter quite a bit to Wikipedia and there are some limitations as to what you can do. The more you understand about these limitations, the less likely you're going g\find yourself running into problems. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May you please help me propose a merge?

I'm not sure where to start proposing a merge and starting a discussion. I would like to propose the article emailSanta.com be merged into Santa Claus under the section "Letter writing". Could someone please help me set up the discussion, including adding the appropriate templates? Thanks! Félix An (talk) 07:04, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Félix An the instructions for merging are at WP:MERGE. Why do you want to merge the articles? If emailSanta.com is notable, the article is long enough to stand alone and if it is not notable, you could nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion. TSventon (talk) 11:27, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:MERGE. However, I don't recommend it for this particular case. The website is independently notable and worthy of a standalone article. Sources include a New York Times article. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    about posting an article

Hello. Can I create a Wikipedia article in different styles? Do I have to create an article again to add English and Russian to the article I created in Azerbaijani, or can I add different languages to the article I created in Azerbaijani? Hasanagha Asadov (talk) 10:39, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Every different language version of Wikipedia is an independent project, with its own rules and procedures. Articles on the same subject in different languages can be straight translations - but only if they meet the policies of both language versions. Sometimes they start as straight translations, but get edited independently; sometimes they are created completely indpendently of one another.
If you have written an article in az-wiki, you are welcome to translate it into English for en-wiki. But en-wiki's policies are stricter than many others, and you may find that the subject is acceptable in az-wiki, but does not meet en-wiki's criteria for notability: it depends on the quality of the sources.
Please see translation for more information.
As for translating to ru-wiki: You'd need to ask there. ColinFine (talk) 11:18, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt responce. Can I create multiple drafts on my profile? Hasanagha Asadov (talk) 11:44, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can create multiple drafts, as sub-pages of your user page. (Wikipedia doesn't have "profiles". ) Maproom (talk) 13:26, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hasanagha Asadov: (edit conflict) You can create multiple drafts in your user space. Just enter "User:Hasanagha Asadov/name of topic" in the search box, and click the "Start the page ..." prompt to create each draft. Deor (talk) 13:30, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I suggest you don't create drafts in multiple languages in the same Wikipedia: as far as I know, there are no tools to move a page from one Wikipedia to another, so it would be much better to create each your user pages of that language Wikipedia. In English Wikipedia, you can have as many user subpages (or personal sandboxes) as you want. I'm guessing that you can do that in any other Wikipedia as well. Most photos on Wikipedia are under a license that allows for reuse for any purpose if attribution is given. You can click on the photo to see the exact license terms. Some photos are used under non-free use, which means there is no right to reuse the photos. For photos in that case, you would need to contact the copyright holder directly for permission. For example, I want to cite this article about the Consulate.

I can cite like this,[1] with the "quote" part left in French

Or I can do this,[2] and leave my own translation next to the original quote

Or I can do it this way,[3] and only keep my translation

FranCeska708. Based on your statement that you work at NYU and were assigned to write this article, then your next step is to comply with the Paid contributions disclosure. This is mandatory. You also should read WP:BOSS. User:FranCeska708/sandbox is entirely unreferenced and so fails the core content policy of Verifiability. It cannot possibly be accepted into this encyclopaedia in its current form. You should read and study Your first article. You will need to find significant coverage of this school in reliable sources that are entirely independent of NYU. Just because similar articles may exist does not mean this one should. Wikipedia has 6,815,398 articles and many of them are of poor quality and in danger of being deleted. We do not need any new poor quality articles, so strive for excellence. Cullen328 (talk) 18:15, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply, Cullen. I have slogged through many, many Wikipedia pages. I understand that connections need to be disclosed. But there are no independent sources writing about our school because we're new and obscure! If that means we don't get an article, so be it. I just figured I'd try to post first and correct mistakes afterward. (It's frustrating! If this process were smoothly delineated dya think I'd be asking goofy questions?) At the bottom of a page I am editing, underneath the edit description, all the way to the right of the blue Publish changes button, I have a button that says ☑️ Citations. I think it might be from a script I installed, but I'm not sure. In any case, when it is working, it can take text such as

    * {{ cite book | isbn=978-1556196027}}

and fill in most of the other fields associated with that ISBN. Often, however, it just errors, and I can't figure out what the issue is. At least once it failed one night and then worked on exactly the same text the next morning. So maybe it's just really glitchy on their end?

As for links breaking, and the sheer number of places that had that as a hardcoded link to Wikipedia... that's a shame. I advise cursing link rot and then trying to just fix all of them if you care enough, because the information has not been deleted, merely moved. Fluoborate (talk) 04:49, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just added "Note 1" to this page:

    Asenapine

Following the "ref"/"note" markup example as closely as I could, and it is only a clickable link in one direction, in both Safari and Chrome. Clicking "Note 1" where it occurs in the body (Adverse Events) does not work, although it appears blue. Clicking the "1" in the notes section at the bottom does indeed work, it provides a backlink to the body.
