Traditionally a Syriac Assyrian town, this once beautiful town, also goes by the name of "Kerburan" and the more commen "Kerboran". It had approx 1000 families in 1900. After the "Seyfo" in 1916, many christian families were killed. It was inhabited by the Syriac Assyrian Christians and Kurds, but from 1979 most of the Christians flew the city (they were scared because of the Cyprus conflict).
It has the Syriac Orthodox church of Mor Kuriyakos, which is now left in ruins despite numerous attempts by the Christian people from this village, whom are now abroad, to restore and maintain their church.
