The Amazing Race 25 is the twenty-fifth installment of the reality television show The Amazing Race. It features eleven teams of two in a race around the world for a US$1 million grand prize.

The season premiered on September 26, 2014 on CBS for the 2014–15 television season, moving to Friday at 8:00 pm, with the season finale on December 19, 2014.

Food scientists Amy DeJong and Maya Warren were the winners of this season of The Amazing Race, and are the third all-female team to win the American edition of the competition.[1]

Production

Development and filming

The 25th season of The Amazing Race started filming on May 31, 2014, at the red bleachers of Duffy Square at Times Square in New York City.

Filming began in the early morning of May 31, 2014 at Times Square in New York City. In contrast to the starts of previous races, which were typically held in private or restricted-access locations to prevent potential spoilers, CBS invited fans to appear at the start line and see the teams off.[2] The publicity of the Times Square start led CBS to announce the identities of the competing teams the same day.[3] The public start also revealed that instead of the Express Pass, teams would be awarded a new immunity from elimination pass - called "The Save" - for coming first in the first leg, which can be used by that team if they come in last place on an elimination leg before Leg 9.[4]

This season spanned 26,000 miles (42,000 km) through eight countries, including first time visits to the United States Virgin Islands, Malta, and the Shetland Islands of Scotland.[5]

At various points throughout the filming of the race (generally once an episode), teams encountered host Phil Keoghan on the course where he explained a task to the home audience while the race continued behind him.

For the first time, four teams competed in the final leg of the race. However, one team was eliminated part-way through the final leg, leaving only three teams to compete for the grand prize.

Casting and contestants

The cast includes married professional surfers Bethany Hamilton—a shark attack survivor whose story was told in her memoirs and the film Soul Surfer—and Adam Dirks, former Survivor: South Pacific contestants and engaged couple Whitney Duncan and Keith Tollefson, and TNA Wrestling stars Brooke Adams and Robbie E.[3]

Melody Chen from The Amazing Race Asia 1 was the pit stop greeter in Leg 9.[6]

Results

The following teams participated in the Race, each listed along with their placements in each leg and their "Team Name" as identified by the program. Unlike previous years, the production team has given teams hashtags for use on social media; modifications of these are given below rather than their relationship to each other. • A red team placement means the team was eliminated.
  • An underlined blue team's placement indicates that the team came in last on a non-elimination leg and had to perform a Speed Bump during the next leg of the race.
  • A brown ⊃ or a cyan ⋑ indicates that the team chose to use one of the two U-Turns in a Double U-Turn; or indicates the team who received it;
indicates that the team was U-Turned, but they used the second U-Turn on another team; ⋐⋑ around a leg number indicates that only one of the two available U-Turns was used.
  • A purple ε indicates that the team decided to use the Express Pass on that leg.
  • A green ƒ indicates that the team won a Fast Forward.
  • An underlined leg number indicates that there was no mandatory rest period at the Pit Stop and all teams were ordered to continue racing. In addition, there was no elimination at the end of the leg, but at some point in the next leg, a team would be eliminated.
  1. ^a b c Keith, Scott, and Lisa elected to quit the Roadblock. Keith & Whitney and Michael & Scott were issued 4-hour penalties for their forfeits that were applied at the start of the next Leg. However, Lisa & Michelle were the last team to arrive and were instead eliminated from the Race.
  2. ^ Adam and Bethany found an Express Pass during this leg.
  3. ^ Misti & Jim arrived in last place and handed over the Save to prevent their elimination. However, Phil informed them that it was a standard non-elimination leg and returned the Save to them.
  4. ^ In an unaired segment shown on the CBS website, Keith & Whitney used their U-Turn on Amy & Maya, but because Amy & Maya had already passed the U-Turn they were unaffected.
  5. ^ Adam & Bethany used the Express Pass to bypass the Detour.
  6. ^ Amy & Maya used their U-Turn on Adam & Bethany. However, Adam & Bethany had won the Fast Forward and did not have to pass the U-Turn point, thus they were unaffected.
  7. ^ Leg 12 featured two Roadblocks and no Detour. The team member who sat out the first Roadblock was required to perform the second one.
  8. ^ Brooke & Robbie were eliminated partway through the final leg at the first Roadblock.

Leg 1 (United States → U.S. Virgin Islands, USA)

Fort Christian on Saint Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands served as the Pit Stop for the first Leg of the 25th season of The Amazing Race.

Airdate: September 26, 2014[8]

At the start of The Amazing Race 25, in a public reveal in New York City's Times Square, teams were informed that the winner of this first leg would be awarded the new Save prize, giving them a chance to avoid elimination if they are in last place on any elimination leg. They were then given their first task: head to the location of the finish line of the first season of The Amazing Race. Teams then asked the crowd for the answer, sending them off to the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows, Queens, where they found their next clue which gave them their first destination: Saint Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands. The clue informed them that only five teams would be allowed to check in for the first of two flights to Saint Thomas, with a second flight leaving 40 minutes later, beginning a race to the airport.

Upon arriving on Saint Thomas, teams headed to the city of Charlotte Amalie's Vendors Plaza to signed up for one of six chartered flights in a seaplane to Lovango Cay, each leaving at different times. Upon arriving at Lovango Cay, teams took a boat out to Carval Rock where they were told to climbed up and along its length. At the end of Carval Rock, teams were told to jump into the water and swim to a series of floating bottles that held their next clue, telling them to find the boat Blackbeard's Revenge (a replica of Blackbeard's flagship the Queen Anne's Revenge). On board, a Blackbeard impersonator gave them their next clue, before kicking them off of his ship, with the clue telling them to use a series of rowboats connected by ropeways to pull themselves to shore where they would find their next clue.

Once ashore, they found that the clue was for the Roadblock that asked teams, "Who digs?" One team member had to pick out a set of directions with a particular starting landmark on the beach (an anchor, a set of barrels, a ship's bell, and a ship's wheel), a traditional liquid compass, and a shovel that had markings for exactly 1 yard (0.91 m) to search the beach for a treasure chest buried in the sand that held their next clue. Teams were not told that the direction facing them on the liquid compass was the direction they were facing, leading many to search the wrong area of the beach until they discovered the mistake. Once they found their treasure chest, the clue inside directed them to the Pit Stop located at historic Fort Christian.

Leg 2 (U.S. Virgin Islands, USA → United Kingdom)

In Oxford, teams punted along the River Cherwell.

Airdate: October 3, 2014[9]

At Fort Christian, teams were given their next clue which informed them of their next destination: London, England. They were told that there were only six teams allowed to take the first flight which left one hour and twenty minutes before the second. Upon arriving in London, teams were told to head to Tower Bridge and search for the Pearly King and Queen who would give them their next clue.

This clue was for the Detour, giving them the choice between About Face and Pancake Race. In About Face, teams traveled to Somerset House where they dressed up as members of the Queen's Guard and learned the complex steps of the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Once the parade captain was pleased with their performance, he would hand them their next clue. In Pancake Race, teams traveled to the Victoria Tower Gardens where they participated in a re-creation of the annual Parliamentary Pancake Race. Each teammate had to dress up as a chef and then bake a pancake to the head chef's satisfaction. Once done, teams had to complete one lap around the course, constantly flipping their pancakes, finishing within one minute and fifteen seconds. If either teammate dropped the pancake on the ground, ran out of time, or were judged to not be flipping the pancake enough, both team members would have to start over, baking new pancakes before being allowed to race again.

The clue following the Detour instructed teams to travel to the city of Oxford and then head to the Magdalen Bridge boathouse, where they found their next task. They were instructed to punt themselves on the River Cherwell around Magdalen College Island. One teammate had to stand on the flat stern, known as the "Cambridge End", propelling the boat through the river, while their teammate stood on the bow, known as the "Oxford End", and waved a small Union Jack flag. Once teams successfully completed a lap around Magdalen College Island, making sure that they were standing on the right positions in the boat, they were given their next clue.

This clue told them to travel to Oxford's Christ Church College where they were given a bowler hat and an umbrella to carry with them on the rest of the Leg. Teams were informed that they could pop open their umbrellas for a chance at the Express Pass, which gave them the option to search Oxford for Bear Inn to pick it up and risk valuable time or elimination. Teams were also told to "tip their bowlers", which revealed the phrase "Churchill's Birthplace" on the inside of the hat. Teams had to figure out that this referred to Winston Churchill's childhood home at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.

Leg 3 (United Kingdom)

The Detour in the Shetland Islands had teams choosing between working with Shetland ponies...
...or participating in the Up Helly Aa festival.

Airdate: October 10, 2014[10]

During the Pit Stop, teams were moved to Oxford University Press at Walton Street to start the leg, where they opened up a clue telling them to travel to the Shetland Islands of Scotland. Teams first travelled by train to Aberdeen where they picked up a Ford Focus at the Union Square parking area and then took a ferry to Lerwick. Once on the island, teams had to drive themselves to the Royal National Lifeboat Station and search around for a puffin mascot, who would give them their next clue. The clue from the puffin instructed teams to travel to Scalloway Castle and search the castle grounds for their next clue. In one of the rooms of the castle, they found a knight and a Scottish Deerhound guarding a room that held their next clue.

The clue turned out to be for the Detour, a choice between Pony Up and Light My Fire. In Pony Up, teams traveled to the Peats of Scalloway where they had to cut 50 blocks of peat from a peat bank using a special spade called a tusker. They then loaded up a Shetland pony with two loads of peat which they had to delivered up the hill to a farmer who would give them their next clue once both trips were made. In Light My Fire, teams participated in a Up Helly Aa, building a traditional viking torch. After performing each step of the torch-making process, they had to have their work approved by a judge before moving onto the next step. Once done, they traveled from the workshop to Hay's Dock where they presented the torch to the guizer jarl who would light their torch and then award them their next clue.

The clues from the Detour sent teams to a berry farm in Scalloway where they were tasked with working like a Shetland Sheepdog. Teams were given a flock of sheep that they had to shepherd through an obstacle course, making sure that they passed through the middle of a series of fences before they could try to corral them in a pen at the bottom. Once they successfully got all of the sheep in the pen, the shepherd James gave them a Celtic brooch and instructed them to travel to where it was originally found. This led teams to have to figure out on their own that it was a brooch such as one that had been found in an 8th-century treasure horde on St Ninian's Isle, a small islet connected to Shetland via tombolo where they found the next Pit Stop.

Leg 4 (United Kingdom → Denmark & Sweden)

The Roadblock in Copenhagen had teams memorizing [smørrebrød] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help) orders at Ida Davidsen's world famous restaurant.

Airdate: October 17, 2014[11]

On St Ninian's Isle, teams were given their next clue, instructing them to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark. After a ferry trip back to Aberdeen and a flight into Copenhagen, teams were instructed to pick one of a series of marked Ford C-Max hybrid vehicles and their next clue. The clue instructed them to take the Øresund Bridge to Malmö, Sweden, and to drive conservatively. If they ended using less than 0.10 US gallons (0.38 L) of gasoline upon arrival, they were automatically given their next clue. If they used more than 0.10 gallons, they had to answer a geography question given to them by a student: name the capital cities of the Scandinavian countries of Norway (Oslo), Sweden (Stockholm), and Denmark (Copenhagen).

The clue teams received in Malmö was for the Detour back in Copenhagen, giving them a choice between Parking Space or Wedding Cake. In Parking Space, teams traveled to Sankt Jørgens Allé where they had to set up a parklet. Teams only had 30 minutes to set up one of two possible parklet designs in a parking space, and if it was exactly as the photograph guides were set up, the judge would give them their next clue. If they were incorrect, they could use up the remaining time to make corrections, but once the 30 minutes were up they had to move over to a new parking space and start over. In Wedding Cake, teams travelled to the Det Franske Conditori bakery where they had to put together a traditional wedding cake known as a [kransekage] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help), with all of the necessary tiers and tiny Danish flags. They then had to transport the cake across town via Bullitt freight bicycle to the Allegade 10 restaurant. If the cake was correctly made upon arrival, the maître d'hôtel would approve the delivery and sign the team's receipt that they had to return to the head baker Henrik for their next clue.

The clue teams received from the Detour instructed them to travel to the restaurant Ida Davidsen where they picked up their next clue, which was for the Roadblock that asked, "Who has a memory for faces?". One team member had to take a [smørrebrød] Error: {{Lang}}: text has italic markup (help) order from two patrons of the restaurant, remembering the menu number of the two sandwiches they each ordered, and then use a menu to memorize the four sandwiches' contents. They then had to relay the order to Ida Davidsen herself, and if they were correct, they were allowed to deliver the sandwiches to the customers who would give them their next clue. This clue directed teams to head to the Pit Stop at the VM Houses apartments.

Leg 5 (Denmark → Morocco)

Tasks in Marrakesh centered around the Jemaa el-Fnaa marketplace.

Airdate: October 24, 2014[12]

At the start of the leg, teams opened up their next clue, informing them to travel to the city of Marrakesh, Morocco. Upon arrival, they were told to head to the Jemaa el-Fnaa marketplace to search for a marked food cart garage for their first clue. However, for Misti and Jim, they encountered the Speed Bump, forcing them to go to Le Cadeau Berbère and pick up ten Moroccan rugs. They then had to hang these rugs on a wall outside the Riad Monceau hotel to prepare them for sale, and once they were done, they were allowed to join the other racers. At the food cart garage, the clue teams received instructed them that they had to set up a food cart for the marketplace, preparing the kitchen and seating area. When the cart owner was pleased with their set up, he awarded them their next clue.

The clues teams received, which warned them of an upcoming U-Turn, sent teams to the Bab Debbagh tannery where they found the clue for the Roadblock, asking, "Who's ready to pull their hair out?". One team member had to go into the tannery and collect three unfinished goat skins from a pool. They then had to remove the remaining hairs from the skin to a judge's approval. Once done with this, they loaded up three finished skins onto a bike and delivered the tanned hides to an address elsewhere in Marrakesh. After getting a receipt from the customer, they headed back to the tannery to trade it for their next clue.

The clue instructed teams to travel to the Ben Youssef Madrasa and search for their next clue, which was for the Detour: Twirl Time and Tea Time. In Twirl Time, teams participated in a gnawa dance. Teams that chose this task had to head to Bob Magic Music to pick up their costumes and instruments, as well as receive instruction on how to play them. While one team member played a drum to keep up a rhythm, the other played the krakebs while using their head to twirl a tassel on their hat around. If they could keep the twirling up for a minute, they would receive their next clue. In Tea Time, teams learned how to properly serve Moroccan mint tea. After picking up a traditional tea set from Le Paradis du Thee, which included a sugar box, mint tea, green tea, and a samovar, they then made their way to the Palais Gharnata where they got into costume and observed how to properly serve the tea. While one team member held the serving tray steady with one hand, the other would ceremonially pour the tea into two cups at once, making sure to lift the kettles up to a particular height. Once the professional tea server was pleased with their performance, he would give them their next clue.

The clues teams received directed them to head to Le Grand Balcon du Café Glacier, where they found the U-Turn stand. Shelley and Nici chose to U-Turn Keith and Whitney, while (in an unaired segment) Keith and Whitney chose to U-Turn Amy and Maya, unaware that Amy and Maya had already passed the U-Turn. The clue teams received after the U-Turn told them to head into the marketplace to find the Al Matjar carpet shop, the Pit Stop for this leg.

Leg 6 (Morocco)

During the Roadblock, teams ziplined across the canyons of the Atlas Mountains.

Airdate: October 31, 2014[13]

At the start of the leg, teams were told to head to El Massi and search for a marked feed station. They had to pick up two bags of hay from the station and then deliver the bags to a marked horse stable across town. They were then told to pick a horse-drawn carriage that would take them back into the center of Marrakesh, being sure to feed their horses an apple upon arrival, before they were given their next clue. The clue instructed them to pick up a Ford Fiesta from behind the Koutoubia Mosque and then drive out to the Abdessadek Boufoulouss pottery stand in Amizmiz and then search for their next clue from amongst the pots.

The clue they eventually discovered was for a Berber-inspired Detour at Oumnasse Casbah: Camp or Cream. In Camp, teams had to set up a traditional Berber tent, making sure to furnish it with the provided rugs and tables. Once the judge was satisfied with their work, he would hand them their next clue. In Cream, teams had to milk a nanny goat to fill up a milk pail. They then had to use a goat skin to traditionally churn the goat milk into butter. Once they had 3 ounces (85 g) of butter, they would receive their next clue.

The clues teams received instructed them to head out to the Terres d'Amanar nature preserve in Tahannaout where they picked up a clue for the Roadblock, asking "Who has the knack for sliding things into place?". One team member had to cross a series of rope and plank bridges and zip lines across a canyon in the Atlas Mountains. Once across to the other side of the canyon, they had to put together a wooden puzzle, making sure to match both the beveled edges and the painted designs. Once the puzzle was correct, they could receive their next clue and then join their partner on the other side of the canyon. The clues they received directed them to Casbah d'If back in Marrakesh for the Pit Stop.

Leg 7 (Morocco → Italy)

For the Roadblock in Sicily, teams raced around Mount Pellegrino, paying homage to Italian racing history.

Airdate: November 7, 2014[14]

Teams started the 300th leg of The Amazing Race at Casbah d'if, they were given their next clue, instructing them to fly to the Italian island of Sicily. Upon arrival in the regional capital of Palermo, they had to head to the Teatro di Verdura for their first clue. However, they found a series of tambourines marked with a time the following morning, telling them to instead spend the night dancing the tarantella with a band of musicians.

The next morning, teams were given their next clue according to the time on their tambourine, instructing them to head to Villa Costanza where they encountered the Roadblock, asking "Who wants put their foot to the Florio?". One team member drove a go-kart along the old route of the Targa Florio auto race around Mount Pellegrino. If they could complete the course within 4 minutes and 7 seconds, they would receive their next clue from racing legend Nino Vaccarella. If not, they would have to follow the pace car back to the starting line and try again, around a 20 minute wait. Once the racers got their next clue, they would be driven back down the mountain by a retired race car driver to join their teammate at the Antico Stabilimento Balneare.

Upon reuniting with their teammate, teams opened the clue to discover it was for the Detour: Painters or Posers. In Painters, teams traveled to the Tonnara Florio where they had to restore a fresco while lying on their backs on a high scaffolding, as Michelangelo (according to legend) did when painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Once the artist was pleased with their work, she would give them their next clue. Teams were warned that there were only 4 available spots at the Painters Detour, leaving the others to wait or switch tasks. In Posers, teams headed to the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi and watched a series of opera performers. They then had to head back stage and match the performers to their costumes, characters, and plays in the order the performers sang by writing down the answers in a playbook. Once the costumista judged their playbook correct, teams would receive their next clue. The clues they received directed them to the Pit Stop at the Villa Niscemi.

Leg 8 (Italy → Malta)

The Roadblock on Malta had teams going into its famous Blue Grotto.

Airdate: November 21, 2014[15]

At the start of the leg, teams were informed that they were to head to the island nation of Malta. Upon arrival in its capital city of Valletta, teams had to head to the Bridge Bar. At the bar, they were given a drink order from the bartender consisting of a bottle of liquor and two glasses. They then had to carry the order on a tray up Saint Ursula street's staircase to the Upper Barrakka Gardens where a group of the Knights of Malta waited for their order. If either teammate dropped anything from their tray along the way up the steps, they would have to go back down to the Bridge Bar and pick up a broom and dustpan to clean up before the bartender would replace their broken items. Once teams successfully delivered the order to the Knights, they would give them their next clue, instructing them to head to a boathouse at the Żurrieq Valley Sea Inlet to pick up their next clue. What they found were a series of Maltese cross necklaces with times for the next morning marked on them, requiring teams to set up camp overnight.

The next morning, teams waited for their next clue, discovering that it was for the Roadblock, asking teams "Who's feeling blue?" One team member had to rappel down into the Blue Grotto, and once in the water swim into the cave to pick up their next clue. They then rejoined their teammates in waiting boats and were taken ashore where they discovered they were to pick up their next clue at the Triq Antika near the Monastery of St. Scholastica in Birgu.

Upon arrival, they found the Speed Bump and a clue for the Detour. For their Speed Bump, Tim and Te Jay had to travel to Saint Lawrence's Church Oratory and find two shields that they had to paint the Maltese cross on. Once they were done, they could go back and perform the Detour. However, teams discovered that it was the first ever Blind Detour, as their clue only told them to choose between Flag or Shine, and would learn more about the task once they got there. In Flag, teams headed to a part of Birgu Harbour and found that they were to participate in the traditional Maltese game of ġostra, running up a greased log over the harbor to grab flags. Once one team member managed to get a yellow flag and the other got a red flag, they were given their next clue. In Shine, teams went to the Gate of Provence where they had to polish a set of armor. After each getting a helmet and chestplate down from a wall, teams had to put on the armor pieces and polish each other's armor while wearing it. Once the knights were pleased with their work, they would award them their next clue. The clues teams received directed them to the Pit Stop at Fort Manoel.

Leg 9 (Malta → Singapore)

The Roadblock in Singapore had teams tightrope walking between the towers of the Marina Bay Sands hotel.

Airdate: November 28, 2014[16]

At the start of the leg, teams were told that they were next headed to Singapore. Teams were provided a flight from Malta to Paris, and then were tasked with booking their own flights to Singapore from Paris. However, teams were allowed to find another alternate flight if they wished; a new rule instituted this season forbade teams from dropping one flight in favor of another if they found a better booking after purchasing an earlier set of tickets. Upon arrival in Singapore, teams took a bumboat to the island of Pulau Ubin and upon arrival had to find a coconut stand and together drink all of the coconut's water before they were given their next clue. The clue contained the Fast Forward, which told teams to head to Sentosa's WaveHouse to surf and keep their balance on an artificial wave. If they could both stay on their surfboards for two minutes, they could pass all other tasks and head straight to the Pit Stop. If another team arrived to attempt the Fast Forward, teams would alternate chances at the task until one succeeded.

Teams otherwise had to head to the 57th floor of the Marina Bay Sands hotel to find their next clue: the Roadblock that asked "Who wants to be a funambulist?", leaving teams unaware that "funambulism" was another word for tightrope walking. One team member had to walk on a tightrope between two of the towers of the hotel. Once they crossed to the other tower and picked up their clue, they had to return to their teammate at the original tower before they could continue racing.

This clue directed teams to head to the Centre Square of Raffles Place to search for their next clue. Once they found a man with a red and yellow placard on his back for "Onward Singapore", he would give them their next clue: the Detour, a choice between China Cups and Chilli Crabs. In China Cups, teams headed to the Hong San See temple where they had to undergo a session of cupping therapy. After a painful back massage, scraping the skin, and then fire cupping, all of which are said to increase blood flow and remove toxins, teams would receive their next clue from their masseuses. In Chilli Crabs, teams headed to the Red House seafood restaurant at The Quayside where they had to work on Singapore's most popular dish of chilli crab. Teams had to crack open enough crab claws smothered in chilli sauce to collect the crabmeat. Once teams had 2 pounds (0.91 kg), the head chef would give them their next clue.

The clue teams received after the Detour sent them to Fort Canning Park where they found the Double U-Turn point. Teams then picked up their next clue, which told them that they would find their next clue at only one of the five official Merlion monuments throughout Singapore (two at Merlion Park, Sentosa, Tourism Court, and Mount Faber). Only the Merlion at Mount Faber had their next clue which told teams to head to the Pit Stop at the Fullerton Pavilion.

Leg 10 (Singapore → Philippines)

In the Philippines, teams participated in a Switchback to the ox plowing task from season 5.

Airdate: December 5, 2014[17]

At the start of the leg, teams were told that their next destination was Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Upon arrival, they had to head to Baclaran Church in the city of Parañaque for their first clue. However, they were told that they had to pick up their clue from the flea market's flower vendor at 6:30 am the next morning. Their clue told them to head by jeepney to Rosario Municipal Plaza and search for Salinas Specials for their next clue.

At Salinas Specials, they discovered their clue was the Detour, a choice between Catch or Coach. In Catch, teams had to wade into Manila Bay to a pump boat offshore. They then had to fill up a bucket with fish and then transport it back to shore, in order to fill up three buckets (about 300 pounds). Once they filled all three buckets, the broker would give them their next clue. In Coach, teams had to properly attach a side car onto a motorcycle using the provided tools, making sure to match the motorcycle to their provided side car. Once the head mechanic was pleased with their work, he would give them their next clue.

The clues teams received from the Detour instructed teams to head to the rice fields in Naic for their next clue. They soon discovered that the clue was a Switchback to the infamous ox task from season 5. Teams had to use a plow attached to a water buffalo to dredge the rice paddy to find their next clue hidden somewhere in the mud. The clue buried in the mud directed teams to search on foot for the nearby Pit Stop.

Leg 11 (Philippines)

The Baluarte de San Diego in Manila's historic center of Intramuros was the Pit Stop on this leg of the race.

Airdate: December 12, 2014[18]

At the start of the leg, teams were told to head back to the city of Manila via jeepney and head to Rajah Sulayman Park for their next clue. At the park, teams encountered the Speed Bump and the Detour. For their Speed Bump, Brooke and Robbie had to unload a man's padyak and load it onto a second padyak and repair its wheel. Once they were done, they could continue. The Detour, which was find out to be a Blind Detour, simply gave teams a choice of This or That. In This, teams traveled on foot to the intersection of Bocobo and Malvar Streets where they found they had to play street basketball against a neighborhood team. Once they scored 21 points, they would get their next clue. In That, teams found that they had to race padyaks around a marked course starting at the intersection of Pedro Gil Street and Pilar Hidalgo Lim for four laps, with each teammate pedaling the bicycle for two laps each. If teams could finish four laps of the course within 17 minutes and 55 seconds, they would receive their next clue.

The clue teams received from the Detour directed them to Divisoria Market and search for a marked jeepney at the intersection of St. Nicolas and St. Cristo Streets for their next clue, the Roadblock, asking "Who goes coocoo for coconuts?". One teammate had to deliver orders of two local coconut products, garlands of the shell used for polishing known as bunot and a broom made of palm fronds called a walis tingting, to three provided addresses, making sure to note the number of items each order required. Once they returned all three receipts, they would receive their next clue, informing them to head to the Pit Stop at Baluarte de San Diego. However, upon arriving at the Pit Stop, teams were informed that the next leg began immediately.

Leg 12 (Philippines → United States)

The Point Vicente Light in Rancho Palos Verdes was the Finish Line of the 25th season of The Amazing Race.

Airdate: December 19, 2014[19]

At the Pit Stop in Manila, teams were automatically given their next clue, instructing them to head to the "City of Angels", Los Angeles, and a manila envelope that Phil told them not to open until they were instructed to do so. Upon arrival, they would have to find a marked Ford Explorer and use the Ford Sync voice control feature to get their next clue. The clue instructed them to head to Downtown City Hall and to the film clerk, so their film permit would be approved. At City Hall, the film clerk instructed teams to head to Southwest Marine Warehouse and give their permit to the assistant director on set.

After giving the permit to the assistant director, he gave them their next clue, which they discovered was a Roadblock asking them, "Who wants to be a Hollywood action hero?" After picking a stunt coordinator, one racer trained for jumping out of a third story window. In the final run, they had to pick up a satchel and then break through a window made of breakaway glass to land safely on a pile of boxes below, making sure to land on their back. Once done, they would receive their next clue, which was in their satchel, making sure to take off their safety gear first. However, the Roadblock was also the elimination point. The first three teams were allowed to participate in the Roadblock and continue racing, while the fourth team to arrive was eliminated.

The clue from the Roadblock instructed teams to head to the United States Coast Guard base on Terminal Island and find one of the marked response boats for their next clue. Teams discovered they were to participate in a search and rescue exercise with the Coast Guard. They would have to find an Oscar crash test dummy weighing 185 pounds (84 kg), set off a safety smoke bomb, and get Oscar back to the response boat. Back on shore, they were given their next clue, sending them to ConGlobal Industries for another clue.

At ConGlobal Industries, they found another Roadblock, asking them "Who can't contain themselves?" Teams had to search the shipping containers for nine that were labeled with the names of cities that they visited on the race, alongside color-coded numbers for each team. Without taking notes, teams had to memorize the numbers in the order they visited the cities: Saint Thomas (US Virgin Islands), London (England), Lerwick (Scotland), Copenhagen (Denmark), Marrakesh (Morocco), Palermo (Italy), Valletta (Malta), Singapore, Manila (Philippines). Once they had the correct order, the container foreman would give them their next clue in one of the other shipping containers. The clue directed teams to the Finish Line at the Point Vicente Light in Rancho Palos Verdes.
