Question about deleting an article

Hello, You deleted an article about a Persian Musician without participating in the discussion associated with the article. Since the concern was lack of an independent website presenting information about the article I used the input wiki live chat and the on going discussion to modify and resource and added multiple additional source and also an independent websites conforming the her information about in an article specifically about her. after adding new sources I had the people in live chat help review the source and they said that the notice on the page will be removed since the concerns have been addressed. However today I saw that article was deleted by you without any input and participation on the discussion about the article. I would appreciate if you tell me the issues that you saw with the article after I added the new references. Thanksiranianmusic (talk) 17:04, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the person who closes the discussion cannot participate (please read our deletion process). My role as closer of the discussion is to judge the consensus. The consensus of experienced Wikimedians participating, referencing policy, was that the sources provided do not meet the verifiability standard for independence and our Music Notability policy. If you wish to appeal the decision to delete the article, you must do so at Deletion Review.

Hello, I am querying your deletion, you state (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.firebreak.com.au/act-limestone_plains.html), I am confused the webpage you refer to is actually a page I have created and have maintained since 1994, so can I ask that you undelete the above Draft, and allow me to make sure the information on www.firebreak.com.au meets the Wikipedia copyright guidelines

thankyou Grumpy fire (talk) 01:28, 21 November 2015 (UTC) Grumpyfire

Grumpy fire, I don't mind undeleting it, but you'll need to do one or both of the following:
File a ticket through WP:OTRS giving Wikipedia permission to use the material.
Place a comment on the website that gives up the content as fair use.
I'd recommend that you do the first (OTRS) before doing the second, since that would ensure that Wikipedia would be able to use the content. The problem with just stating it on here is that we can't really verify that you are you, whereas we could do this via you e-mailing OTRS. Placing a fair use disclaimer on the bottom of your page would be helpful, but it'd pretty much require that you insert a Creative Commons license that satisfied Wikipedia, which would likely be this CC license. If you want to insert this, that should do the job as well but I'd recommend also doing the OTRS ticket just as a safety precaution and a general CYA type of deal. It'd also be good since they'd be able to walk you through the process of doing this and also help determine what you can do to preserve your rights over the work. I'm not terribly familiar with the process, so all I can really do is point you in their general direction. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:33, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Tokyogirl79 hey thanks for this will do both as you suggest, with regard to the http://www.firebreak.com.au do I have to place a fair use disclaimer on all the pages or just the main page? Grumpy fire (talk) 07:02, 21 November 2015 (UTC)Grumpy fire

It's best to make it visible on all pages just in case, since usually people will just take a quick look at the page to see if there's a copyright disclaimer. You could probably get around this a little by creating a page for the copyright information and then putting it in the header bar in its own little tab. That way it'd be visible to anyone coming into the page (you could label it something like "fair use rationale" or "copyright information"). Since it'd be in the header bar (which appears to be on all of the pages), you wouldn't have to add it manually to every single page, which can be very time consuming. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Sebastian Robertson article rewrite

Dear Daniel, I just wrote and published an article in the place of an article that you had nominated for deletion earlier this year about Sebastian Robertson, son of the The Band's Robbie Robertson. Looking at the deletion discussion, the page was deemed Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Too soon and was deleted for both of those reasons.

Based on the research that I did on Mr. Robertson, I feel that Wikipedia:Too soon no longer qualifies, as his work as a children's author has been reviewed by Rolling Stone, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and School Library Journal amongst others. The latter three all wrote reviews of his most recent book just this past year, in fact. There are dedicated articles about Robertson and his work as an author and composer in Rolling Stone, Huffington Post, and American Songwriter, and he has been referenced in Entertainment Weekly, Sound & Vision, and numerous other publications. I sourced many of these publications in my article, which you can see listed in the references section.

Also it is definitely not an autobiography, as I am not Sebastian Robertson. I just have been taking an interest in Robbie Robertson lately, and am fulfilling a personal interest in researching him and his music. It was through this that I came upon his son Sebastian's story, so I decided to write about him.

Also please note that everything in the article has been sourced to the very best of my ability. There are 22 sources listed in the new article.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I hope you have a great new year!

File permission problem with File:Marinators.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Marinators.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 23:25, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Daniel. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

New York Methodist Hospital

Hello Daniel--I checked out the Help section and read that the best way to talk to someone about company page updates is to reach out to an editor familiar with page. As you were one of the admins to block our hobbyist harasser, I thought I ask you. Please forgive any missteps. I work in the public affairs office of the New York Methodist Hospital, and NYM will be going through a major rebranding soon, and due to conflict of interest issues, I know that I cannot do the updating myself (right?). However, I want to make sure that that editors (non-affiliated) are notified so that our page is at least up to date. I also want to mention that our page has been a point of contention for a certain individual (currently banned). Can someone please advise the best way to go about this? thanks 143.104.225.142 (talk) 15:06, 9 November 2016 (UTC)143.104.225.142[reply]

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Daniel.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Anuradha Bhattacharyya

Dear Daniel, 2 years ago I had created a page by the name Anuradha Bhattacharyya, citing her as an Indian author. Recently, she has been awarded the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi Award for best Book in English in 2016. The book is a novel titled One Word which was published in 2016 by Creative Crows: new Delhi. I think you can now publish her page as she has become 'notable'. Bhattacharyya is erroneously spelled with a single 'y' sometimes. I am showing you links to 3 places.
