The 2022 World Series will be the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 2022 season. The 118th edition of the World Series, it is a best-of-seven playoff played between the National League (NL) champion Philadelphia Phillies and the American League (AL) champion. The series is scheduled to be played between October 28 and November 5, if all seven games are necessary, and will be broadcast on Fox and ESPN Radio.[1] The team with the better regular season record will host games 1 and 2, and, if necessary, games 6 and 7. As both teams participating in the 2022 ALCS have better records than the Phillies, the eventual American League champion is guaranteed home field advantage.
For the sixth straight year, MLB sold presenting sponsorships to all of postseason series. As a result of a new multi-year agreement with Capital One, this World Series was sponsored by Capital One and was officially known as the 2022 World Series presented by Capital One.[2]
Background
The American League champion will have a home-field advantage over the National League champion in the 2022 World Series after the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that holds the best regular season record with 111–51 and clinched the NL West division championship, and the Atlanta Braves, the team that clinched the NL East division championship and a defending World Series champion, were eliminated in the National League Division Series by the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies, respectively.
