Bashir's ribbons

Just wondering why you have reverted the ribbons section of Marie Bashir? Have your read the associated talk page? --Oliver Nouther (talk) 10:39, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I ahve indeed but i was not convinced. I think that since she is not military personnel then her ribbons should not be displayed in a military fashion, the box is not only tidier but it is used only to identify the awards that she would wear with durther details below. Cheers Siegfried Nugent (talk) 11:17, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Granted she is not military but that is the standard for ribbon layout. I tried using that box but couldn't centre the ribbons correctly. Do you have a better understanding of that box and can make it work? I used the examples on the Neville McNamara (which I am still working on) and Roden Cutler page as a benchmark. My aim was to keep things standard across the board. I updated those pages after a change to the Jubilee Medal image. --Oliver Nouther (talk) 11:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NSW politics articles

Hi, I've been going through a few. Would you mind writing (born [year]) rather than ([year]– ). I wonder whether you'd mind having a look at WP:MOSDASH? And the flag icon, whether for NSW or Australia, is highly questionable. Please let me know if you have any queries. Tony (talk) 12:58, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from New South Wales Legislative Council. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Tim Bruxner

His Christian name was James, yes. However, he was known as Tim. Google the man, for Gods sake - there's a veritable ton of hits for him as "Tim Bruxner", and nothing much at all under "James Bruxner". Check your facts before you revert me - if I've changed a name in these areas, trust me, it's because I've done my research. Rebecca (talk) 16:59, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not to be snarky, but are you too stupid to use Google? You're telling me that there is "literally no case" for him being known as Tim, even though he was known as Tim and essentially every source referring to his common name refers to him as Tim, because you, being a genius, have noticed that his legal first name was James. I suggested you do your research before editing, and what do you do - you keep arguing with me, instead of, god forbid, doing ten seconds of research. Rebecca (talk) 14:14, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saying "not to be snarky" does not excuse your complete lack of civility towards this matter. I am a reasonable person and, having been shown some credible evidence by other editors, have seen that both forms are correct. Note: evidence by other editors. I should have thought that you being the experienced editor who knows it all, compared to myself, would have taken my argument in good faith. Instead you resorted to the assertion that you have all the answers, therefore you have no need to prove your argument. I politely asked you for some evidence to state your case because based on my investigations, which I showed you on your talk page, I had not done so previously and instead you compeletely ignored me and went on a tirade, assuming bad faith. I hope that you may realise not to be so belligerent in your arguments and be a bit more reasonable to others in the future, and above all, assume good faith. I thank the other editors for their input in resolving this matter for the moment. Siegfried Nugent (talk) 05:54, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

...alternatively, instead of being a galivanting prat, you could have actually done some research. When you've got people who were actually there saying that he was always known by the name the article points out that he was known as, and you're still arguing, there's a point at which you've surely got to wake up and think "am I being an idiot? why yes, yes I am." Rebecca (talk) 05:57, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wont argue this matter anymore, you obviously havent the time to be reasonable and are now resorting to cheap insults. Which I find childish and really rather pathetic. Siegfried Nugent (talk) 06:01, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Siegfried,

A hearty congratulations on the user page. Finally a little insight in to the enigma.

If you haven't seen "Paths to Abstraction" yet, it is brilliant! If just to see the progress of Mondrian in one exhibit.

The Hon.

Hi there. As far as I can tell, Peter Coleman never held a position that entitles him to continue to use "The Honourable" as a title, since NSW ministers relinquish this title when they cease to serve (unless the Premier specifically petitions the Governor to have it extended). These are generally noted in the NSW Parliament's bios, and I can't find it in Coleman's (which, in fact, gives his title as "Mr"). Have I missed something? Thanks. Frickeg (talk) 03:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Although he did serve as a minister in the Willis and Lewis Government he may have not retained it and he doesnt seem to be still using it. An assumption on my part. Thanks. Siegfried Nugent (talk) 03:29, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. The NSW titles system threw me for a while too. Frickeg (talk) 03:42, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Started a discussion at Template_talk:High_Schools_in_North_Sydney which is a template you began about removing former schools.

At some stage, I intend to write up articles on the regions in the NSW DET, and this information could be incorporated there? But in the template it leads to crowdedness at the bottom. What do you think? -danjel (talk to me) 09:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Barry O'Farrell

Just wanted to point out some factual errors in the article -

Early life and background Second para - Ursula Hall was actually called Ursula College until 2000. O'Farrell was resident there 1977-79. He moved to Sydney when he joined Howard's staff in October 1985. last line - Bruce Baird retired from NSW Parliament in 1995 but didn't enter Federal Parliament until 1998. He was CEO of the Tourism Council of Australia in between. (ref: Who's Who)

Member for Northcott Fourth para - Phillips didnt retire. He was defeated at the 1999 election by Barry Collier. (ref The poll Bludger - Miranda.) There are two positions - one elected (Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party) and one that goes with it (Deputy Leader of the Opposition).

Member for Ku-ring-gai

First para - When Brogden became leader O'Farrell was defeated as Deputy Leader AND sacked from the frontbench. He didn't 'resign' his shadow portfios. (ref Austn Journal of Political History article on NSW Jan-Jun 2002 by Dr David Clune.) Last line - The move to Shadow Treasurer was reported a promotion - the article makes it sounds like a demotion.

Leader of the Opposition

Para five. Neither the text of The Sydney Institute speech nor reporting of it the next day support the article's claim that O'Farrell wanted 'the Governor' to be able 'to sack a corrupt of useless' government. (Ref The Sydney Papers (12/3/09) and SMH on line (13/3/09).)

NSW ministries

Hi there. Thanks for the work you've done on the Willis Ministry. I see your point regarding my earlier ministries of Colonial government. I wanted to draw to your attention, in case you're not aware, that the government process that we know today, involving the Westminster system of parties, did not really take hold in New South Wales until 1887, when political parties became common. Prior to this date, there was not a great deal of allegience between politicians and policies. Accordingly, there was lots of unrest in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. For example, Colonial NSW had 14 governments in its first 21 years. In the late 1890s, things became a little more stable, where governments served three and four-year terms. As to the Wills' ministry, it's unusual that all Ministers served their full terms (all well-behaved in those days?) Jherschel (talk) 13:02, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I find it very surprising at just how fickle early NSW politics was. Willis and his Ministry only served six months! I don't think they had the chance to misbehave...mind you the current NSW Government has managed in a short time quite well :P. Cheers Siegfried Nugent (talk) 09:39, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You've left YL?

Not that I'm a member (I'd really like to see a non-Greens alternative, like the Democrats... used to be *sob*). -danjel (talk to me) 07:24, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I have, I resigned in protest to the right-wing extremism that is gaining ground in the federal party. i.e: Cory Bernardi and their reinforcing their opposition to Gay marriage, opposition to action on climate change. I'm really disillusioned in poltics right now haha. Siegfried Nugent (talk) 08:06, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Fun times in the Federal Liberal party. I figure they're all looking at the "successes" that the tea party et al are having over in the US. *shrug*

I was involved in politics until near the end of uni... The influence of certain parties in student politics is insane.

Take it easy. See you later. -danjel (talk to me) 08:11, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Randwick Boys High School

Hi. I'm pretty sure that you're more experienced at this kind of thing than me, but the correct name for Randwick Boys High School is Randwick Boys' High School. Do you have the appropriate authority level to move the page to reflect it's true and correct name? Thanks Jherschel (talk) 13:59, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure that it is - if you look at the official website, there is one mention with apostrophe and one without. One gets the feeling this sort of thing must have been discussed somewhere before...Casliber (talk · contribs) 19:42, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at St George Girls High School and the sign out the front of the school File:Kogarah_St_George_Girls_High_School_1.JPG... :] ˜danjel[ talk | contribs ] 02:09, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am unaware of any prevous discussion on this issue but while the apostrophe is strictly grammatically correct, the majority of uses of similar school names with the "Boys" or "Girls" usage is done without the apostrophe. Personally I don't really mind, but for consistency's sake i prefer to leave it out, especially for the page name. Perhaps it can be put in in the opening paragraph/infobox name? as a compromise.Siegfried Nugent (talk) 04:11, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The use of the apostrophe is grammatically correct. The school's website (which is not the official website - schools are not required to have websites) has inconsistent usage both with and without the apostrophe. However, it is worth noting that the Principal's Message webpage uses the apostrophe on every occassion. The official website is the NSW Education and training website which also uses the apostrophe - although not in the heading. The National Education Directory of Australia 2011 Edition uses an apostrophe on some, but not all, mentions. My thoughs are to leave the title as is, but change it on each subsequent mention to its correct form (with the apostrophe). Jherschel (talk) 10:50, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i've note some of the great changes you have made to the Royal Australian Navy page. The ranks section looks great now I've fixed up the abbreviations for the ranks but I must tell you that the ranks of 'Commander-In-Chief' and 'Officer Cadet' dont exist within the RAN, also C-in-C also doesent exist within the Australian Armed Forces. The Commander-In-Chief 'Position' is held by the Monarch and Governor General and is not a rank nor has it a wearable representation except for the Windsor Uniform (which Australian Governnors General have not worn for many years). I have left the 2 'ranks' on the chart for you to remove soon. Regards, Nford24 (talk) 09:45, 11 November 2011 (AEST)

Hi, just wondering why you removed the reference to Wetherell's period as Minister for Conservation from the infobox? Also, my understanding was that in NSW the title 'The Honourable' was not retained after a minister left the ministry, unless the premier specifically recommended they be allowed to continue to use it. Ministries

Thanks so much again for the work you've done on the NSW ministries articles - it's a really good way of approaching the historical junior ministries and you've done a fantastic job. Any chance you might be interested in a similar effort on another state at some point? Thanks! I guess NSW is my primary interest but I have been tempted to look at portfolios in South Australia and the ACT (I recently created the ACT Attorney General page), but given i still have a few more NSW porfolios and offices to list (Solicitor-General, Minister/Secretary for Public Works, Mines, Leader of the Govt in the LC) that's definitely further into the future. Let me know if you have any suggestions or helping hand in this regard. Cheers :) Siegfried Nugent (talk) 06:06, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Succession boxes at Smith

Hello there Siegfried, I saw your work on the succession boxes at Ian Smith. Very good work and I like the idea a lot, but unfortunately we're missing a few of the names that would come before or after, and putting question marks in there instead is not really becoming of the featured article criteria. It's a shame, as I really do think this would be an improvement and you clearly put quite a bit of work into it, but for this reason I've taken it out for the moment. We should definitely put it back in as soon as we can fill in the gaps; I'll have a look through my books to see if I can find anything. Thanks for your efforts and I hope you're well. Do you mind having a look at it ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Embassy_of_Switzerland_in_New_Zealand Your expertise is highly appreciated and thanks in advance for your time. Kind regards.SylvianeB (talk) 00:53, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
