Konsole is a free and open-source terminal emulator which is part of KDE Applications and ships with the KDE desktop environment. Konsole was originally written by Lars Doelle.[1] It ls licensed under the GPL v2 or later[2] [3] [4] and the GNU Free Documentation License.[5] Konsole includes many projects which may themselves have their own licences.[dubiousdiscuss] However konsole itself is protected under the GPL v2[2] [3] [4] or later, and GNU Free Documentation License[5]. This is due to the smaller projects within konsole having compatible licenses.[discuss]

KDE applications, including Dolphin, Kate,[6] KDevelop, Kile, Konversation, Konqueror, and Krusader use Konsole to provide embedded terminal functionality via Kpart.
