Savur (Arabic: صور, Kurdish: Stewrê[3]) is a town and district in the Mardin Province of Turkey.
Politics
In the local elections of March 2019 Gülistan Öncü was elected mayor.[4] On the 15 November 2019 she was detained due to an investigation related to terrorism. The next day she was dismissed and District Governor Bayram Türker was appointed as a trustee.[5]
Historical places
The district is rich in historical places. Some of them are: Aynkamar, Ras-ıl Meydan, Ras-ıl Harf, Köprübaşı as promenade places, Old Mosque[6], Savur Castle[6], and some ancient mansions in the outskirts of the castle.
Education
Savur has a high literacy rate compared to neighboring regions.
Nobel laureate Aziz Sancar was born in this town in 1946. He attended primary school in Savur.[7]
