Half marathon
A half marathon is a road running event of 13 miles, 192.5 yards (21,097.5 meters). It is half the distance of a marathon and usually run on roads. It is a popular race for relative amateurs, long enough to be a serious challenge but not requiring the level of training of a full marathon. In consequence, many towns and cities hold annual all-comers half marathon races through their streets. The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, held each May in Indianapolis, is the largest half marathon in the U.S. (and the eighth largest running event in the U.S.) with some 35,000 participants.
