Thirukural Express is a Super Fast express train in India, running between Kanniyakumari, the southernmost tip of the Indian Subcontinent and Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi, which is the national capital of the country.
It is currently a bi-weekly (proposed) train covering a distance of 2919 km, making it one of the longest-running Super Fast trains in the country. The train shares a common route and timetable with the Tamil Nadu Sampark Kranti Express from New Delhi to Madurai.
Relevance
Thirukkural is a book of verses written by Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar. There is a statue of Thiruvalluvar in Kanniyakumari; hence the name for the train.
Timings
This train leaves Kanniyakumari on Wednesdays and Fridays at 19:15 to reach Nizamuudin at 18:00 on Fridays and Sundays respectively. It covers the total journey in 46 hours 45 mins. In the return journey, it leaves Nizamuddin at 07:15 AM on Monday and Saturday to reach Kanniyakumari at 8:45 AM on wednesday and Mondays, respectively. It covers this journey in 49 hours 30mins. Route
This train runs via Madurai, Chennai Egmore and joins the main track at Basin Bridge after passing through Chennai Beach. Then it travels to Andhra via vijayawada, the busiest junction in South India and Central India via. Nagpur and Bhopal Junction, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, then to Jhansi, Gwalior Junction, Agra Cantt and Hazrat NZM
