Many thanks for the note about the barn star[edit]

Many thanks for leaving a note on my userpage about the barn star. This really helped to make my year, as it is the first time I have ever been nominated for a barn star in all my years of editing Wikipedia, so a million thanks! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 14:21, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! although it was Anna who gave you said barnstar, i must say you really deserved it ;) Congratulations and keep up the good work! benzband (talk) 14:37, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have been here for a while and want to improve myself. Though I try my best to do the right thing, I may do something wrong. As you have seen me work, can you please leave me a review as I want to know where I stand so far and what should I improve to be a good editor. Your opinion has always been valuable and your review can help. Thanks :) Yasht101 08:23, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

327th Signal Battalion[edit]

You recently added a cleanup tag to 327th Signal Battalion without specifying a reason. To help other editors identify the problems please add a reason to the tag using the |reason= parameter or replace it with a more specific tag. Per this discussion cleanup tags without reasons can be removed. AIRcorn (talk) 02:05, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dropping by, done here. The tags were removed anyway, even the {{wikify}} one which did have a reason (this same reason i had also put on {{cleanup}} but then removed it). I've replaced {{wikify}} with {{dead end}} now as refs are fixed, infobox added; and prose is in {{cleanup}}.  Question: does this also apply for {{multiple issues|cleanup=xxxx}} tags? (being removed if no reason specified?) benzband (talk) 15:13, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Enforcing this is still in its infancy and there are a few things still to work through. The multiple issues question was asked here. I don't know what, if anything, was decided. Will chase it u now that you have reminded me. AIRcorn (talk) 22:00, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Tea Leaf - Issue Three[edit]

Newsletter

Hi! Welcome to the third edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse reaches two month mark. The Teahouse has been live on English Wikipedia for two months now and evidence of the project's impact is beginning to show. Thank you to the hosts and Wikipedians who have helped make the Teahouse the valuable place for new editor's to seek help and feel welcome.
  • April metrics report has been posted on meta! Some relevant metrics from April’s report include:
  • In April, Teahouse averaged 45 questions per week.
  • An average of 20 new editors visiting for the first time were served at the Teahouse, in addition to repeat guests.
Wikipedia Teahouse always keeps it classy!
  • Many guests are repeat visitors: the average guest asks 1.5 questions and 22% of guests ask more than one question.
  • Reports show that the Teahouse is having a positive impact on editor engagement! Comparing a sample of 75 new editors who participate in the Teahouse with a control group (of equivalent size and similar first-day editing activity) shows:
  • New editors who participate in the Teahouse edit 10x the number of articles than the uninvited control group.
  • New editor participants also make an average six times more global edits.
  • Average Teahouse participants add 26 times more bytes of content that survive on Wikipedia (meaning content that isn't reverted or deleted) than the uninvited control group.
  • More Teahouse participants remain active on Wikipedia at least 10 days later. Among the 224 editors in our three experimental groups, 28 percent of new editors who participate in the Teahouse were still active on Wikipedia at least ten days later, compared with 12 percent who received an invitation but didn't actively participate in the Teahouse, and only 5 percent from a similar uninvited control group.
  • Teahouse visibility is a challenge, as we try to make the Teahouse visible to new editors, invitation has been the the main way of informing new editors about the Teahouse, and while that is a powerful tool, many new editors go uninvited. Input on Teahouse link placement is welcome! (Join in on the conversation here.)
  • Want to know how you can lend a hand at the Teahouse? Become a host! Learn more about what makes the Teahouse different than other help spaces on Wikipedia and see how you can help new editors by visiting here.
  • Say hello to the new guests at the Teahouse. Take the time to welcome and get to know the latest guests at the Teahouse. Drop off some wikilove to these editors today, as being welcomed by experienced editors is a really nice way to make new editors feel welcome.

Re: money, money[edit]

YesH, UD-10.1 (N) "to be considered outside the 'norm'". :)
Gimme some money, but multiply it by 0 and this is both the maximum and minimum possible ammount I pretend! Unfortunately, I have to tell you that your transaction have not taken place because the banks have stolen all the money (yours, mine, and all the others), but despite this, they still have their safes empty and huge/gigantic/enormous/colossal/pantagruelian/massive debts! And, ya know, I'm that dad who never hurt nobody. I just loved to live that way, and I loved to steal your money. :D Of course, I will not tell you about the gr8est t3rr0r15t group in the whole human history.
"Gums gums / there's gums on the pouf / gums gums / they're made to shut" :D
All the bestEST!
P.S.: Do you want to participate in this? There are no prizes (nor fun ~ hahaha).
P.S. #2: The "norm and outside the norm" thingY made me think of The Normal (Daniel Miller) and his super-fantastic "Warm Leatherette" (1978!!! Here is the original song with scenes from Crash (1996) by David Cronenberg. Both the song and the film are based on Crash, a 1973 novel by J. G. Ballard. "WL" is the B-side of another seminal track: "T.V.O.D."). Here is a fatastic cover version of "WL" made by Peter Murphy, Trent Reznor, Jeordie White, and Atticus Ross live on the radio in Boston in 2006... but you probably know all this already. BestEST! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 09:38, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"White Man" is one of the greatest songs ever... and Joe's favourite!!!
Robin is just a local solution, and "the new groups (1, 2,...) are not concerned with what there is to be learned (1, 2, 3,...)"
Were they using NT, XP, Vista, 7, or 8? :D
Best! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 07:31, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the '48, that's true! And, probably both cockpits were listening to Suicide :D! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 12:21, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:NOFX ~ dunno, lol ... what we could say is that they are a fantastic band, and that we are living in the dark age(s) (a.k.a. the age of...). Have a great week! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 07:24, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Jello in the lineup ~ wasn't CaliPORNia Über Alles? Anyway I was too drunk... to answer correctly, and my favourite DK song is "Holiday in Cambodia"!!! Note: check out UD for CaliP... and the second EX-claIm-aCtion p.Oi!.NT! :D ~ also that NOFX stuff reminded me of Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine (maybe it would be more correct to say the opposite because The Audacity of Hype has been released in 2009). BestEST–pjoef (talkcontribs) 17:51, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the tracks. [It was] a great way to start a new day! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 06:56, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Congratulations, you made it through the song[s]" ~ lol ~ but please don't be excessive. Anyway, I've got all of their albums, but my So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes CD does not include that hidden track. So once again thank you Ben. I'll ignore the "issue" about leaders and democracy, which has been changed (if it ever existed at all). There's too much to say about and this is not the right place to post this. You know, I could be wrong (and) I could be right, maybe I was wrong, I am wrong... as always, but it is far too complicated to sort out the origin of punk music. It has its roots and origins in the garage bands of the '60s and acts such as The Kingsmen, The Kinks, The Who, Small Faces, Petty Things, The Seeds, ? & The Mysterians+Zappa, MC5, and Velvet Underground, The Stooges, New York Dolls, DeVo, Roxy Music, Ramones,... (in semi-chronological order), and both garage and punk were strongly influenced by Blues/R&B/R&R of the '50s (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, ..., you know). But, the day punk died was the same day it rised! Joe said they signed for CBS to reach a worldwide audience, which was not a bad thing and this produced excellent results both in terms of music and radical politics. So what, so what? Don't listen to me listen to your head! (Note: some of the links have nothing to do with their contexts ~ lol). –pjoef (talkcontribs) 10:23, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of using "oi, oi, oi" I'll use Oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo, oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo / ... / Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo / ...! (^_____^) (^_______________^) Be...!!! And, "spam" whenever you want, at least they will go to block us /o\ :D. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 13:19, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assistant Coordinator of WikiProject Wikify[edit]

Hey, I'm not actually entirely sure about the activity levels of the executive coordinator User:Sumsum2010 and the other administrative officer User:Kerowyn. But User:Nolelover formally vacated his position as assistant coordinator and I've seen your activity around Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify and I've been fairly impressed. I was wondering if you would be interested in filling the vacated position. As of now, the most important thing would be getting the drive set up for June (I'll certainly help) and getting awards handed out afterwards. Other projects will probably appear, for example I don't think a newsletter has gone out in a long time. Ryan Vesey Review me! 22:53, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Still 0 articles which could do with some wikifying… Have just set up the June pages and an invite ^^ Distributing the awards shouldn't be a problem either (Nolelover already asked Wilhelmina Will or me to do it before). The Newsletter sounds a really great idea, i'd be really glad to help you sort something out (just been and updated the news pages :) Here's a list of drives that could be included, assuming that a newsletter is programmed for July 2012 (Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify/News/July 2012):
  1. October Drive (2011)
  2. December Drive
  3. February Drive (2012)
  4. March "Mini" Drive
  5. April Drive
  6. June Drive ← will have just concluded
I suppose dropping a note to those who were involved before can't hurt either? benzband (talk) 08:43, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, you got a lot done! Does that mean you are interested in accepting the position? Ryan Vesey Review me! 14:26, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really interested in "positions", but i'm happy to assist anyhow ~ if that's no problem :-) benzband (talk) 15:27, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just want to repeat my support for you, Ben. I'll pop around when I can, and follow any discussions (I'll be darned if I quit Wikipedia for good before we figure out everything about {{wikify}}, AWB and the various instructions we're trying to put around). One thing you might look at is finding a replacement for User:MessageDeliveryBot, which seemed to completely miss the last invite I submitted (unless you want to AWB them out, which is a pain if you ask me. Good luck (although I know you won't need it ;) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 16:29, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I think we need another template[edit]

Would you be willing to help us out, for King and Country? Achowat (talk) 18:51, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, 'course :-) benzband (talk) 18:55, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've been dropping the standard Invite enrollee template on the pages of some Users who've been denied Rollback, but that's not what the Template says. Can I get another Invite template, something to the effect of "We see that you need a little more understanding of Counter-Vandalism before you're granted Rollback. The Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy exists to help users, like yourself, understand the way to identify and handle Vandalism through one-on-one instruction. Perhaps you'd like to ask a question of our instructors, or perhaps Enroll in the Academy". Achowat (talk) 19:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also: Braces (punctuation). Achowat (talk) 19:39, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right, those where left over from the sloppy copy-paste. BTW, i've added punctuation to the list as that was the very first place i checked for the meaning, but *surprise* it wasn't there ~ thus puzzlement and my imagining a template sporting suspenders o.O benzband (talk) 19:45, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yay! The wiki system works again. Something was unclear, and then you fixed it. Hooray! Achowat (talk) 19:49, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Still there's a lot of "high database server lag" on my end. Probably like me, the server needs some sleep. *yawn* benzband (talk) 19:52, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the graduate userbox has an error. Instead of "This user is the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy," I think it should be "this user is [a] the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy [graduate]. Dan653 (talk) 00:11, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Boston Wiknic Template[edit]

Hey, I'm making an invite Template for the Boston Wiknic, and I'm wondering if there's any way to make it so that, when substituted, there's a Signature and Timestamp added. Could you take a look at User:Achowat/sandbox and let me know. Cheers! Achowat (talk) 17:43, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Just putting tildes (3 for sig only, 5 for date only, 4 obviously for both) should do it, right? Just replace "<code>'''TIME'''</code>" with "~~~~~". Replacing "[[User:Achowat|Achowat]]" with "~~~" should give the inviter's signature. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 17:53, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The following should do the trick: ~~<includeonly>~~</includeonly><noinclude>~~</noinclude>.
Color-coded explanation → ~~<includeonly>~~</includeonly><noinclude>~~</noinclude> shows up as :
  • ~~~~ on the template page
  • ~~~~ on the target page
It cannot expand in the template page because of the tags in the way, but once substituted it can expand freely as four tildes are in a row. Cheers, benzband (talk) 18:04, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What if, for the sake of style in the message, I wanted ~~~ and then also ~~~~~. Is there a trick to that? Achowat (talk) 18:17, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) And just to clarify, if he/I only wants timestamp/sig, he would change the number of tildes in the includeonly tags? Neat trick splitting the tildes like that btw...I learn something new everyday here. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 18:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, for plain sig you could put ~~<includeonly>~</includeonly><noinclude>~</noinclude> and for timestamp ~~<includeonly>~~~</includeonly><noinclude>~~~</noinclude> ~~<includeonly>~~</includeonly><noinclude>~~</noinclude>~. I copied the trick from {{firstarticle}}; also it's funny here it got the same reaction/comment :-) benzband (talk) 18:26, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Gorgeous, as always. User:Achowat/sandbox is, currently, my first attempt at a Template for a wide audience. Could you take a look to make sure I didn't royal bollacks something up without noticing? Achowat (talk) 18:34, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, i noticed a problem with the instruction i gave you (~~~) but it's fixed here. Also tested it in the WP:Sandbox. benzband (talk) 18:39, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation Appeal[edit]

Articles for Creation is backlogged and needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately in need of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors and administrators alike, to help us clear a record backlog of pending submissions. There is currently a significant backlog of 2446 submissions waiting to be reviewed. These submissions are generally from new editors who have never edited Wikipedia before. A prompt, constructive review of submissions could significantly editor retention.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you (at least) autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

Click here to review to a random submissionArticle selected by erwin85's random article script on toolserver.

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 1 or 2 reviews, would be extremely beneficial.

Counter-Vandalism Unit in the Signpost[edit]

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on the Counter-Vandalism Unit for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:53, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Motd 2012-05-27 swap[edit]

No problem at all, but was it for the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on the 26th of June? kidding :D I think it is supposed to be for the 27th, but both mottos are from Easter, 1916, which is about the Easter Rising of Irish republicans against the British empire on the 24th of April 1916 (it was the Easter Monday of the Roman Catholic Church). I can't see any problem with this change (nor with others). Many thanks for keeping me informed about this, although it was not necessary because you can change anything you want without having to see, feel, know, react, or wait. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 14:05, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well done, that was a good idea, thank you Ben! The only problem I see is that few editors are actively participating in our project. For example, the nomination for the Olympic opening ceremony has received very few comments. In the worst case scenario those noms will be good for next year, as long as the Mayans are wrong (^_____^). –pjoef (talkcontribs) 16:08, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the bot's mishap. Hopefully it won't happen again... Oh, and thanks for the cookie, it was delicious. :) -- Nascar1996(TalkContribs) 16:10, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
