Objection

May I ask why you removed secondary release dates from Waar. UBStalk 07:24, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Sure. Go and check out WP:FILMRELEASE. In the film infobox, we only include the premiere date and the date of first release in the country/countries of origin. All other release dates can be included in the prose if they are notable. BOVINEBOY2008 11:56, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Objection. The Patrol film

Hi you undid an edit to The Patrol film listing. Please note the changes were replacing the sales agent poster with the cinema posting and correcting the year of release. The original page was a UK stub and out of date. Ref www.thepatrolfilm.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptc113 (talkcontribs) 18:55, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, you have again relisted the film as 2013 not 2014. This is not correct, though I am not going to correct your edit if you can watch the ref page imdb The Patrol if imdb relist it correctly then I think it is fair to relist this a 2014, year of general release. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptc113 (talkcontribs) 16:11, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Please read WP:FILMRELEASE. On Wikipedia, we list the films release and year by their very first premiere, including film festivals. Not all other institutions follow this, but this was decided through consensus. Because The Patrol did show at a film festival in 2013, we consider it a 2013 film. BOVINEBOY2008 16:14, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

ok can you send me the ref for that decision because it's not industry standard.Ptc113 (talk) 16:21, 17 January 2014 (UTC) ok got it in your text. I like to challenge that. Because films with no distribution would therefore appear released Ptc113 (talk) 16:23, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Nobody's Perfect and that means me

O wise one, is the oddly capitalized 2008 doc NoBody's Perfect sufficiently disambiguated from all the other film uses at Nobody's Perfect? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 19:53, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Very clever :). I would say no. I think that CamelCase in general should be avoided, as it is technically a stylization. For this one in particular, I've seen it written as NOBODOY'S PERFECT as well, which tells me that the title is truly Nobody's Perfect and not a CamelCase of No Body's Perfect. I would use a year disambiguator and possibly change the casing. BOVINEBOY2008 00:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, for "foreign" films can you not remove the links to the film pages? For instance Amarcord the 1973 should link to List of Italian films of 1973. It just makes it convenient to link to the years in Italian film as the categories don't cover it. It would be different if it linked to 1973, but it doesn't. Cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:55, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

No, I won't. That is an WP:EGG link which has been discussed before in greater context and should not be used in the way that you suggest. BOVINEBOY2008 18:40, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
That's a rather warped view of the guidelines. WP:Film has been linking to years in film for years. I don't see how WP:EGG applies here. It is useful to have that link to the year in Italian film.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:33, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Having a link on 1973 point to a list of Italian films released in 1973 is extremely counter intuitive. BOVINEBOY2008 19:47, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
How? It's more useful to link it than to not link it. And the MOS guidelines state that you can link the year provided it has some useful purpose. Common sense has far more value than any of our invented guidelines and common sense tells me that it's useful to provide a link to Italian films of same year from 1973.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:59, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

PROD

Hello Bovineboy2008, I would like to get you involved in a problem I created in past days, as you seem very experienced in film related articles. Please take a look at my talk page, I admit I did mistakes but it's not all my fault. I proposed the future film articles for creation at "Requested moves" so they were moved after review, I didn't create them directly in article-space, everyone can see that (like I proposed to you once. So I want your opinion in that, I suggested to redirect those to their directors/parent pages. I've worked so hard on those articles, I hope you'll look forward to it better. --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 10:25, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Move the page back

You moved the page Darr @ The Mall to Darr_@_the_Mall but the movie title is with a capital "T" in "The" so please move the page back. I suggest you to google it up before moving a page, especially when it's a move or something. 123.63.97.78 (talk) 05:58, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

The film In Secret premiered at 2013 Toronto International Film Festival but has a 2014 release date. What year will be written in its lead and category, 2013 or 2014? And should we write "upcoming" in the lead and in category? --Captain Assassin! «TCG» 17:52, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Vyamoham

If an AFD debate is closed as no prejudice against speedy renomination because nobody commented on the AFD nomination, I thought the lack of prejudice also applied to proposed deletions. Is that not the case? If anything the lack of debate on the AFD is proof that the proposal was uncontroversial. Wieno (talk) 18:29, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

I don't believe that to be the case; that caveat is not mentioned at WP:PROD. I agree with your nomination and I would suggest taking it to AfD. BOVINEBOY2008 22:03, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
I'll renom if I'm guaranteed at least one comment. Or maybe you do the renom and I'll comment so it's a bit less awkward? Wieno (talk) 04:59, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I'll do the latter. BOVINEBOY2008 15:31, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Epic

I noticed you moved Epic (film) to Epic (2013 film) because of Epic (1984 film). Wouldn't you think Epic (2013 film) is the primary topic over some obscure short from the 80's? I think you should have done a requested move first. Koala15 (talk) 15:33, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

There is no primary topic for "Epic", as such Epic is a disambiguation page. Please read WP:NCF: "Do not use partial disambiguation such as Titanic (film) when more than one film needs to be disambiguated." BOVINEBOY2008 15:57, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
Yes but Epic (2013 film) is the primary topic out of all the films. Koala15 (talk) 20:25, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

As the film's existence is not in question nor is their doubt that it is one by a notable director, How about a redirect to filmmaker K. G. George, specially in considering the difficulties inherent in finding coverage for pre-1990 Indian films? Schmidt, Michael Q. 18:29, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Dabs vs SIAs

Back in 2012 this edit[1] converted a dab page to a SIA. That has the effect that any editor placing a link to Barsaat in an article (e.g. Nimmi) doesn't get a bot-generated warning that it's an ambiguous title (and nor are such links likely to be fixed by disambiguators). Are there any reasons why it's better as a SIA than as a dab ? DexDor (talk) 22:19, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

What to do if the person might be living/dead but is under the age of 90?

Since I was about to add a page for the film editor of Deliverance, Tom Priestly who was born in 1932, yet I can't find any info if he is living still, but of course he isn't 90 yet-so would I put living or possibly living you think?

Wgolf (talk) 23:34, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Okay the guy had a page it was misspelled, but it is a good question what do you do about people like that? Wgolf (talk) 23:35, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

It is a good question, one to which I'm not too sure of the answer. I don't often edit BLP, so I would ask at WP:BLPN. BOVINEBOY2008 23:37, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Okay thanks! I was going "why the heck does this guy not have a page???" as it turned out someone put the name wrong once, now that makes sense. But yeah it is a tough call, like a child star from the 1940's who nobody has heard of since then could be alive but of course are not even close to 90. Wgolf (talk) 23:39, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

I notice you have moved a a number of film articles to create a lot of disambiguation links that need fixing. I will do some of it, but I'd like to draw you attention to WP:FIXDABLINKS. StAnselm (talk) 00:30, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi dude! About half a dozen films have been inspired by Tenali Ramakrishna. The upcoming 2014 film being just one of them as can be found here. I think it needs a disam page. Can you take a look and do the needful including fixing the extra dab as and when required? Thanks. -- Sriram speak up 11:06, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello Bovineboy2008. You've made a technical move request here. This scheme for disambiguation doesn't appear logical to me. Even if an admin performs the move as you requested, we will have:

  1. Spy (2012 film)
  2. The Spy (2012 film)
  3. Spy (2015 film)

We'll have two films, both made in 2012. We would be using 'The' for disambiguation. That doesn't seem very reader-friendly: how will they remember which one has 'The'? One alternative might be Spy (2012 Russian film). If you check IMDB, they list this film as 'Shpion'. Would you consider that option? I'd also suggest making the other 2012 film into The Spy (2012 Korean film). Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 23:43, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and disambiguated further Spy (2012 Russian film) and The Spy (2012 South Korean film). I agree that the "The" is not sufficient for disambiguation. Let me know if everything looks alright. BOVINEBOY2008 01:02, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you for the reasonable solution. EdJohnston (talk) 02:43, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Ek Villain

The Ek Villain issue needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Can you help? Bubaikumar (talk) 13:26, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not understanding your reasoning here. The guideline you are citing, WP:FILMCAT, states, "In general, articles and categories should be placed in the most specific applicable categories, and should not be placed directly in a "parent" category if they are already present in one of its sub-categories." Category:2014 3D films (already present) is more specific than its parent category, Category:2014 films (which you are adding. Similarly Category:American 3D films -> Category:American films, Category:2014 3D films -> Category:2010s 3D films. Am I missing something? - SummerPhD (talk) 13:59, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

I understand this logic. However, there is a consensus that each film be included in its primary year, country and language category, and then to include more specific subcategories. That allows for the categories to work as a directory of all films in that category, as oppose to searching through subcategories. BOVINEBOY2008 14:30, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

TekkenJinKazama socks

I probably don't need to point this out, but TekkenJinKazama (talk · contribs) was blocked a few weeks back for repeated copyright issues on images, mostly Tekken related. They've since socked extensively and use a couple of IP ranges for editing that are probably familiar to you. 42.104.0.*, 42.104.2.* and 42.104.3.*. I see you've reverted them already today. I'm following WP:RBI for IP and obvious sock edits and if they are persistent/annoying enough will file a new SPI on the account. Annoying but they've got a lot of energy at the moment and until that runs out they'll probably continue to edit. Those ranges are Vodafone in India so it's unlikely a rangeblock is possible so extra work falls on anyone in the areas TJK likes to edit. Let me know if I can help - I'm going to be using some API searches ({https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=usercontribs&uclimit=500&ucuserprefix=42.104.0], [2] and [3]) to periodically search and revert their edits to help. MPAA ratings

When you say something like "no MPAA ratings" in the edit summary, you should put a link to where it says that. So, I did a search and finally found WP:FILMRATING. But it says to "avoid indiscriminate identification of ratings." It is relevant to mention it on Moms' Night Out, but it should be more in depth. --Musdan77 (talk) 03:58, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

No, see this essay describing the current consensus on common links. Something like Dread Central is preferable. Also, you should be aware of editing with a conflict of interest, i.e. being involved in the production. BOVINEBOY2008 21:45, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
Understood. There will be an article released very soon regarding filming and production. Until we can get that to you, please do not delete the article but rather revert it back to a redirect. 70.115.144.179 (talk) 21:52, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
First, I don't have the power to delete articles, as I am not an administrator. Secondly, I cannot restore the redirect as it was before as the film has begun the AfD process. I would recommend that you make a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Found Footage 3D speaking to the notability of the film, specifically on how it may or may not meet the guidelines at WP:NF and WP:GNG. Other editors will comment on whether or not the article is kept and then after about a week, the consensus will be determined. If there are articles that are published in that period, I encourage you to add them to the article as to bolster the notability. BOVINEBOY2008 21:57, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Fantasia

No offense, but are you really that clueless? Have you ever heard of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? Some things are more notable than others. I guarantee you 99% of people are looking for this film and not some Chinese independent film. You should have just started a requested move. Koala15 (talk) 01:42, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

No offense, but WP:NCF. If you oppose the move, than request it back. See WP:BRD. BOVINEBOY2008 01:53, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
You didn't even answer my question. You continue to ignore WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and make misinformed edits. If your gonna do something like this at least admit your mistake or have a real answer. Koala15 (talk) 02:05, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
I know about Primary Topic. The word Fantasia has a primary topic and it is not the 1940 film. You are thinking about secondary topics. Otherwise, Fantasia wouldn't have had a disambiguation in the first place. BOVINEBOY2008 02:07, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
What? The 1940 Fantasia film is the primary topic of movies named Fantasia in this current day. 99% of people are looking for the Disney film not an independent Chinese film. Koala15 (talk) 02:14, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
The primary topic applies across topics, not just for films, otherwise we would have a tiered nomenclature. And we have disambiguation pages to help direct people to the correct article. BOVINEBOY2008 02:16, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes i know that, but there is such a thing as being the primary topic of a film's name, but obviously you don't think so. "A topic is primary for a term, with respect to usage, if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term." Hello! Thank you for all your work in {{WikiProject Film}}, specifically in adding animated films to the Animated films work group. However, please try to remember that the correct parameter to add the articles to the proper categories is |Animated=yes, not "Animation". Also, that parameter is sorted by importance too, so if you add |animated-importance=low, it will prevent the article from showing up as unassessed. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 20:31, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Seven (1995 film)

Hi Bovine. I was just wondering about the criteria for moving the article from Seven (film) to Seven (1995 film). Surely this film is the primary topic as per WP:NCF and takes a great deal more precedence than the little heard of 1979 film? Quentin X (talk) 11:33, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Specifically from WP:NCF#Between films of the same name, Seven (1995 film) is not the primary topic for all (film and non-film) topics, therefore we add the year into the disambiguation. Look specifically at the Titanic example. BOVINEBOY2008 09:57, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
I get the idea with the Titanic example, but surely that is has something to do with the other films being noteworthy in their own right? The 1979 Seven film is barely heard of and an article has only just been created. I would have thought it was more like the football/soccer player Frank Lampard and his father of the same name. The son used to be known as Frank Lampard Jr. until he rose to prominence and when he did his father became known as Frank Lampard Sr. Quentin X (talk) 12:57, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Removing projected dates - just curious

Hey, like your edit on Dirty Weekend (2014 film), you removed the projected date and the in the release date parameter? Just curious as to why the removal of the projected date and why not keep the hidden film date template since it'll be used later on? LADY LOTUSTALK 11:24, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

I remove the hidden code just out of habit. It can be readded when it is needed. I remove the projected release year because typically, that is an unsourced projection of release either by media or the production company and not an actual official release date. To me, it doesn't meet WP:CRYSTAL to say that a film has a release date of sometime in 2014. Of course, if solid citations are provided then it can and should be included. BOVINEBOY2008 11:27, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thankss :) LADY LOTUSTALK 12:26, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

u have nominated a page for deleted.... then what are ur thoughts on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shall_We_Dance%3F_(2004_film) - this is a film which has no sources yet wikipedia has allowedit. y dont u nominate this for deletion as well. --MinkyThePet (talk) 21:03, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Shall We Dance? (2004 film) has several notable secondary references, including a New York Times review and a Roger Ebert review. Doing a search for references on the article you have created, I cannot find anything that does not merely copy and paste what was written on the official page. That is not coverage by secondary sources, and thus is not notable. BOVINEBOY2008 21:07, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

The news has been covered by news in Pakistan.... they will have a plot of the story to write about. The documentary is yet to release but there have been 1 news coverage atleast. the article should be given atleast 1-2 weeks before considereing it for deletion. the coverage of the documentary is being picked up!--MinkyThePet (talk) 23:03, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Can you provide a link where it is covered? We should not be creating film articles before films are notable in the hopes that they will get coverage; we should only create the articles after they are markedly notable. It would be acceptable to move it into a Draft space, or even a sandbox so you can work on the article until you get the sources you need. BOVINEBOY2008 23:08, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Hornblower episode articles

FYI: There are three other Hornblower episode articles with titles that don't conform with naming conventions. In fact, each follow a different logic of naming:

The last one was moved "to help compliance with the Manual of Style" without citing any specific policy. I think that going with WP:NCF with the rest of them is the appropriate thing to do. Will you please look into this? Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 15:27, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi Bovineboy2008. Could you please clarify as to why the exclamation mark in the title of the film Bakgat! should be omitted in the article title (for future reference). Thanks. Knyzna1 (talk) 14:36, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Please read MOS:TM. BOVINEBOY2008 18:16, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
I did, twice, and can't seem to find anything mentioning punctuation? And other pages, e.g. Airplane! and The Informant!, include the exclamation point in the title. I am not questioning your judgement as you are clearly knowledgeable in this field, I just want to know for future editing. Knyzna1 (talk) 18:22, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
"Avoid using special characters that are not pronounced, are included purely for decoration, or simply substitute for English words (e.g., ♥ used for "love") or for normal punctuation." See the example "skate." vs "Skate" under the 6th main bullet point. BOVINEBOY2008 19:02, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Ok, will keep that in mind. But then why Airplane! and The Informant!? Knyzna1 (talk) 19:17, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Kaaviya Thalaivan

Hi. I can't understand what user Vivvt is trying to putforth. See Kaviya Thalaivan and Kaaviya Thalaivan may have pages the way I have spelled the respective films' names. Kaviya Thalaivan is released in 1992 and the latter is scheduled for 2014. Both the spellings are different. For example, if there exists a film name title as Karz and yet another film titled Karzzzz. The stories may or may not be same but the meaning in Hindi translates as 'debt'. Similarly, in case of Kaviya Thalaivan the title translates to 'epic ruler' in Tamil but the fix of 'a' is enough to differentiate the two. Even IMDb or official publishing of the page writes the respective spelling which I have given above. What source Vivvt has given (Youtube) is not so reliable for the spelling (See here [4]).
WP:PRECISION, WP:DAB convey it clearly.
I kindly request you to remove the redirects and disambiguation. It is unnecessary. Under the move log of 2014 film Kaaviya Thalaivan, (See here [5]) user Fortdj33 has also tried to keep the disambiguation away.

Thanks for taking the time to assess the article. Still new to this, so I was wondering why you rated that article a stub, rather than Start or C class, which is what I would have rated it, looking at the criteria. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help. Onel5969 (talk) 12:05, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

It's probably closer to Start-class than stub class. However, ignoring plot and cast, which is necessary but not truly substantial to the article, all the article has is a short lead and a single sentence for both reception and "notes" (which could be merged up to the lead). Expanding the Reception section to include more than just one review would push it up to a C-class and adding more sections would improve it more. BOVINEBOY2008 12:10, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

But I can return to 'name'. No problem. Also Imagesize to Image size, which could be dispensed with altogether as most template images, promotionals, slides are relegated to being thumb size. Upcoming Indian films

Hello! While I appreciate your good faith edits, please do not add Category:Upcoming films to articles that already have Category:Upcoming Indian films. Per WP:DIFFUSE, it is redundant for those articles to be in both the parent category and the diffused sub-category. Fortdj33 (talk) 18:02, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

I strongly believe that Category:Upcoming Indian films is a non-diffusing category. See WP:DUPCAT. BOVINEBOY2008 12:02, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't believe that it is. Please keep in mind that Category:Upcoming films does not contain {{Allincluded}} like Category:Indian films does, and per WP:CATEGRS, nationality, although sometimes correlated with ethnicity, is not the same as ethnicity. Fortdj33 (talk) 13:35, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
I posted the issue here for additional input. I would appreciate it if you would stop adding that category to Indian films until we can come to a consensus. Fortdj33 (talk) 13:54, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Now that Category:Upcoming Indian films has been deleted, those films have been upmerged to Category:Upcoming films, which means that all the films that you re-added that category to, now have the category listed twice. Could you please see to it that the redundant category you added on those films is cleaned up? Thank you. Fortdj33 (talk) 19:40, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi there- if you're going to create a dab page, please go ahead and create one (and, of course, correct incoming links). However, if you're not going to create one, the article on the biopic should really be at that title. There is no point redirecting a less disambiguated title to a more disambiguated title. J Milburn (talk) 23:23, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

I think the release dates on 2013 in film should be listed as the release date from the countries that produced that movie rather than the earliest date released, regardless of WP:FILMYEAR says. BattleshipMan (talk) 22:48, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

I'll tell you why. Because people from certain countries like America and such will get easily confused about the earliest release dates and doesn't even list which country that had the earliest release date. We got to be more consistent and precise with the countries that produced the film and when they are released from those countries. I think the countries that produced movies should the movie should have the release date, not the earliest release date. That will be fine. BattleshipMan (talk) 22:57, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi - you made a note on the Marty Glickman article that film infoboxes should be reserved for standalone articles on a film. It sounds reasonable, but I couldn't quickly find anything that documents it. Can you point me in the right direction? Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 19:27, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Dragon Tales class assessment

Hi! I noticed that you are listed as a work group member for the American animation section of WikiProject Animation and I was wondering if you could assess the article Dragon Tales against the criteria for C-Class and possibly B-Class. It is currently listed as Start-Class, but I've been working hard on it for nearly a month now and I think it's definitely above Start-Class now. If you can't right now, I understand, in which case I would appreciation direction to someone else who might be able to do it. ProfessorTofty (talk) 20:39, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
