"Resources for collaboration-wide" Template

[edit]

I am writing to tell you that I have listed this template for deletion. It is a duplicate of Template:Resources for collaboration, but in a wide format. You and I are the only users who used this template, and it often became out-of-date. Although I created the template, I now believe it's more trouble than it's worth, so I am proposing to the community that it be deleted.

The discussion is located at Templates for Deletion. Your input is welcome.

The accents @ {{Wdefcon}}

[edit]

Accents aren't normal to English, but that's a haiku (Hence the solidi to deliniate line breaks/carriage returns) which requires a set number of syllables per line. Hence the descender-accent (Gravè) is used in poetic printint to indicate the location of the stressed syllable(s) if they're in non normal location (cf. Spanish ascender-accents (áéíóú). Hence returned (re-turnd) > returnèd (re-turn-ED) to satisfy the metrical requirements. 68.39.174.238 10:38, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help with interpretation.

[edit]

Hello,

I discovered your username today because an article you edited was on my watchlist. From what I gather, most of your contributions are to the French Wikipedia project. Could you please help me with the article on Eugene Soubeiran? I created it a while ago, but most of the resources I could find on the subject were in French. I am concerned about the accuracy regarding the content of the stub.

There are some external links that I have included with the article. Could you please use these sources to verify the content of the stub? I would greatly appreciate it. Folajimi 16:52, 20 January 2006 (UTC)(talk)[reply]

Hello again. There is a new article on Pierre Fouquier which needs to be checked for accuracy. Could you please verify the content of the stub as well? There is a google cache that was helpful in the creation of the stub. Is Académie des Sciences French for Academy of Medicine? Also please let me know if you have any other suggestions on how to proceed. Thanks! Folajimi(talk)
Thanks for taking the time to update the article; your efforts are greatly appreciated. Based on your feedback, I will create a new stub for the other academy.
Your question about the subject's birth year is a valid one. In fact, that year was what I initially included. However, I decided to revise that information because most references had 1776 as his birth year.
The same goes for the middle name. I have no idea what the difference is between Eloi and Eloy. Could this be a masculine/feminine spelling matter? That is just a guess on my part. Also, I have seen articles where his middle name is written as Edouard; does that even seem credible to you??? Folajimi(talk)

Amelie Mauresmo

[edit]

Hi,

I wanted to know why did you modify the number of Amelie Mauresmo's titles on her page from 21 to 20, since she has 20 singles titles PLUS one doubles title. It was changed to 21 earlier in the day with the update on her winning the Australian Open, I wondered why you changed that back and didn't want to re-change it again before asking you why you did this. Thanks for your time.Thiste 13:17, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cholmen etymology.

[edit]

Hello,

Could you tell me what "Cholmen" means? It has been attributed to a historic French physician, but there are no articles on the subject. It baffles me, to say the least.

If you have any information on the matter (alternate spellings, root name, etc.), please let me know.

Hi, I have seen that you are using the Cacycle editor extension. This program is no longer actively maintained in favor of its much more powerful successor wikEd.

wikEd has all the functionality of the old editor plus: • syntax highlighting • nifty image buttons • more fixing buttons • paste formatted text from Word or web pages • convert the formatted text into wikicode • adjust the font size • and much, much more.

Switching to wikEd is easy, check the detailed installation description on its project homepage. Often it is as simple as changing every occurrence of editor.js into wikEd.js on your User:YourUsername/monobook.js page.

Traduction....

[edit]

Salut Korg!

J'ai fait la traduction de ce message depuis l'anglais (voir en bas) mais je ne suis pas très sur si j'ai traduit correctement. Pourriez-vous vérifiez?

To whom it may concern

I am an amateur photographer who visited the Basillica in January 2006. I asked to take photos with a tripod and was requested to sign a document that

I believe prohibited me from commercial use of the resulting photos.

I had and have no intentions of selling the photo, however, I was very pleased with the result of the photo

and uploaded it to Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia.

I uploaded it under a licence that states it is my own personal work but it, or derivatives of it, can be used for any purpose.

Therefore, it has been pointed out that I may have broken the terms of the document that I signed.

Could you please confirm exactly what restrictions there are on my photograph and whether you believe it should be removed from Wikipedia?

For the record, the article on the Basillica is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_Montr%C3%A9al_Basilica

The photograph in question is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Notre-Dame_de_Montr%C3%A9al_Basilica_Jan_2006.jpg

Wikipedia is commited to ensuring that no laws and will be forced to remove the image if it is determined that its use is in breach of the document

I signed.

That would be a shame, but I understand your need to control commercial photography inside the Basillica.

Regards,

David

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Notre-Dame_de_Montr%C3%A9al_Basilica_Jan_2006.jpg

Image of a Cannula

[edit]

You apparently used the image from de:Kanüle; it is OK there because that article, if read carefully, is about hypodermic needles. Here it looks confusing because parts of the article refer to a flexible plastic tubing or do not provide technical details.

Cannula, as far as I understand from its usage and origin, is applicable to both flexible and hard tubings. The article will perhaps mention that like fr:Canule now does (as far as I understand French). So far I suggest that Kanüle.jpg is used near a paragraph that deals with corresponding type of cannulae, or is not used at all. Perhaps you already have ideas how to do that? I, on the contrary, will need to clear up some things before. --saimhe 13:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:A-Style logo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:A-Style logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. IPA Corrections

[edit]

Hello. I notice that you've edited some French IPA transcriptions and removed the stress mark [']. Since the placement of stress is predictable in French, it is true that such stress marks are, in a strict sense, redundant. However, the average user of the English version of Wikipedia has no conception of French phonology, and is hardly going to consult the French phonology article to learn about the stress rules. The stress marks are helpful to this average user, so I am replacing them.

Hello Korg, usually I am very comfortable in my anglophone Englisch über alles comfort zone though mycology is one area where there is alot of non-english content I cannot read. I made a stubby stub for Claude Casimir Gillet it may be good to expand from French sources. I have also embellished several european fungi like Entoloma sinuatum, Tricholoma pardinum, and Inocybe patouillardii, while Boletus eastwoodiae is now Boletus pulcherrimus.

Narcisse Théophile Patouillard is still a redlink

I have Entoloma sinuatum at WP:GAN currently and had thoughts of getting some of Boletus satanas, Tricholoma pardinum, Inocybe patouillardii or Boletus edulis up there at some stage. Any more material, folkloric/anecdotal/scientific or otherwise which could be reffed or added would be great. I am not prepared to restore as it stands, but if you want to work on it, let me know and I'll sandbox the text for you jimfbleak (talk) 14:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that. I had started notes toward a small essay on the steady deterioration of WP articles, but I've only gotten 10% of the way through the ~2050 changes since this article's start. I was thinking of calling it "Ground under foot - effects of bad edits stick", or maybe "How Chewing gum lost its flavor"? But if people like you recover the lost good bits... hey, maybe there'll be a happy ending? Shenme (talk) 05:20, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

editing an article

[edit]

Hi,

I want to update information on a certain article because it is old and outdated. I tried making changes on Monday but they were erased and I recieved a message from you saying I cannot use this site for promotional purposes. Am I allowed to list products and endorsements for this company? Please advise me on what I can and cannot say. Thank you. Ccommuni (talk) 17:01, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

redirect

[edit]

It is not mentioned in the second article. cygnis insignis 23:51, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If there are multiple pages with that name, create the page using WP:Disambiguation as a guide. The hatnote and reverts without reason are unwarranted. The list you linked would leave the reader full of awe. cygnis insignis 02:37, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you will pardon the pun, Korg :) I'm not sure what the solution is, let me know if you ever happen to find a clever way of supplying the data in a neutral way. I would click through that toilet door listing and wisdom to find one, but I'm busy watching a soap opera in user space. I had a go at the dabs I could find. Regards, cygnis insignis 21:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you have my full attention. It turned out the newly introduced character was an old one 'back from the dead'. No redemption or novel plot devices, but like those other soaps they hook you in. Any way ...
The wiktionary link was an good addition, I think you found the solution to what I saw as an inherent problem. We are not a dictionary, but we can link one that is as cool as our encyclopedia. Linking a dab to another is best avoided, the reader would have some context for their search on the word, the links should go straight to articles when possible. This is often done with "may also refer to:" sections that do not begin with a link. If the links are terms that are often pluralised, there might be a see also section, I found some surnames as well. It goes without saying that this is my interpretation of guidelines, common sense, and useful improvements. What I find personally acceptable is irrelevant, sorry if I gave that impression. I changed the section heading here. Cheers, cygnis insignis 07:33, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:MDP

[edit]

I deleted the redirects because, for most of them, I pointed all the former redirect-links to the actual ones. I guess I missed a few. You have a valid point though; I'll check. Cheers and keep up the good work, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 01:57, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They all used to be dabs that linked to other dabs which are now housed in the pages I moved them to, so I don't think there's too a need to restore them. Also, I eliminated the "4th of July (song)" redirect as there was only one page linking to it; no use for a redirect if nobody is going to it, right? I have nominated Millionaires, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Millionaires. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Cirt (talk) 19:34, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note, though I haven't created this article, I just created a redirect to Millionaire. I'll notify Killercalamari, the actual creator. Korg (talk) 20:24, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Millionaires (band)

[edit]

Hello Korg, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created, Millionaires (band), has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Korg. This has been done because the page seems to be about a person, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "{{hangon}}" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:Korg. Thanks, - SDPatrolBot II (talk) on behalf of Korg (talk · contribs) 11:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mr. Bones requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Your admin status

[edit]

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on yiwiktionary, where you are an administrator. Since yiwiktionary does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Unnecessary disambiguation

[edit]

I've noticed you've used the phrase "unnecessary disambiguation" in the past. I've contributed heavily to the essay about that concept, WP:Unnecessary disambiguation, and was wondering if you would review it and comment about it on the talk page, especially in terms of whether you think it accurately reflects consensus on what "unnecessary disambiguation" means on WP, and, if not, how it could be improved to do so. Thanks! --В²C 20:46, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
