IMDb and reliable sources[edit]

I noticed you expanded the production section of a few film articles. Thank you for doing that, but some of the sources that you're citing are not reliable. The IMDb in particular should not be cited on Wikipedia, as it is user-generated content. WP:FILM/R has an incomplete list of vetted sources that you may find helpful in researching film-related topics. Generally, content should be written by professional journalists or academics, and the source itself should have a professional editorial board. Blogs, fan sites, wikis, databases with user-submitted content, self-published books, etc are examples of sources we can't accept. WikiProject Film is a good place to ask for help if you get stuck, and the reliable sources noticeboard can help resolve questions of whether something is reliable. What a way to spend Christmas![edit]

Hi, Volubilis, I see that, like me, you're hard at work on WP. Seasonal greetings from my grey part of the country.

After all your hard work on the Messalina article in October, I did a bit more background reading myself. I thought you were justified in detailing more of what has been alleged against her, but going into so much detail seemed to upset the balance created between accusation and examination of the evidence. As you'll know from the Talk Page, the article was rewritten in 2013 after User:Cynwolfe (then one of WP's most prominent experts on Roman history) had remarked on the article's previous unreliability and failure to meet WP standards. Although I know it was not your intention, making all those citations from authors whose reliability needs to be questioned, and not coming to the dissentient voice until much later, undid the reason behind the 2013 rewrite. In order to address this problem, I have therefore foregrounded criticism of the original accounts and also slightly abbreviated the lurid stories that follow on the grounds that an encyclopedia is supposed only to summarise and send interested readers back to the sources for more detail. I wanted to explain my thinking to you here but would be happy if you wished to transfer the discussion to the article's talk page. Sweetpool50 (talk) 16:20, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RMS Queen Mary[edit]

Hello Volubilis90

I have noted that you have done quite some editing of the RMS Queen Mary page. My father-in-law was Capt. John Treasure Jones, the last Master of the ship and brought her to Long Beach. You can find his page on Wiki and his autobiography Tramp to Queen is listed on the RMS Queen Mary page as 'Further reading'.
In 2017, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the voyage to Long Beach, I produced a book entitles RMS Queen Mary - The Final Voyage. When, in January 2018, I posted this on the page as 'Further reading' it was reverted as 'self promotion'.
In order to avoid this re-occurring, I would be very pleased if you could post the edit on my behalf:

  • RMS Queen Mary - The Final Voyage by Richard Tennant, Michael Gallagher & Miles Cowsill, Ferry Publications (2017) ISBN 978 1 911268 18 5

A tag has been placed on Santa Maria Novella (pharmacy), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
