Thin Lizzy

[edit]

Please do not move pages for no reason. "One Night Only" is not a tribute album. Please check your facts before doing this kind of thing. Thanks. Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:31, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stop removing members of the band from the template. You seem to think the band have broken up or something. I suggest you leave these articles alone if you don't know your facts. Bretonbanquet (talk) 15:15, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-n-paste move

[edit]

Hi, I have noticed that you have cut-n-pasted the content of the Antiokh Dmitrievich Kantemir instead of just moving the article. I agree that Antiokh Dmitrievich is a weird name, but please never do cut-n-paste moves: this way you loose the history of article changes and even violate terms of GFDL. If the redicrect has a history and you could not move and article there, then please start WP:RM and an admin will do it for you. Thanks Alex Bakharev (talk) 08:43, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tam, de nas nema

[edit]

Hi, Чръный. Most of the users of Wikipedia do not know how to read Cyrillic, thus, Cyrillic titles are very inconvenient to them. We usually only use Cyrillic titles for the things that were deliberately released by and for Western with Cyrillic titles. Otherwise we either use the name of the song as it was released in the English traslation (if known) or the transliteration of the Cyrillic title. Also as matter of courtesy if a title is somehow established and not obviously wrong (with typos, etc.) it is usually a good idea to discuss any proposed move on the talk page before the move. See WP:MOVE and Wikipedia:BOLD#...but_be_careful for details Alex Bakharev (talk) 20:15, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ukrainian Orthodox Church

[edit]

Regarding your edit to Ukrainian Orthodox Church, please note that the current order was agreed upon after careful discussion at Talk:History_of_Christianity_in_Ukraine. If you have suggestions, or additional scientific data, it would be of great help if you would share your thoughts on either discussion page first. Qe2 (talk) 14:40, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you have changed the order without any discussion and without citing any additional data. As was shown at Talk:History_of_Christianity_in_Ukraine, *all* independent surveys show that the UOC-KP has more followers than the UOC-MP. If you have other data, please feel free to share it. Qe2 (talk) 08:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you added a "Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (Renovated)" to this page. Do you have any information about this church, or citations regarding its size? Qe2 (talk) 11:09, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It is de-faco independent part of Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, although leaders of this organisation consider itself as part of UAOC. Kharkiv-Poltava Eparchy". By the way: you may see their site http://uapc.org.ua/ ~ Чръный человек (talk) 11:52, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Price

[edit]

Hi - why did you redirect Steve Price without discussion? You have incorrectly titled the new page, he does not play Rugby, he plays Rugby league. A quick glance at the what links here would show you that the rugby league player is clearly the primary subject - will you be updating the wikilinks after you have fixed the disambig? Thanks,  florrie  10:49, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you know the profession оf Steve Price better than me. (The fact is Rugby Union and Rugby Union league for me are all the same). If I have done something wrorg, plese correct it. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 11:13, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The move and renaming is now being discussed here. For future reference, it may be helpful to read WP:DISAMBIG, in particular: A code of honor for creating disambiguation pages is to fix all resulting mis-directed links.  florrie  01:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What a lot of fuss and bother you've created with the re-direct. What's prompted me to say something is your comment "The fact is Rugby Union and Rugby Union for me are all the same" which I take to mean that to you Rugby League and Rugby Union are the same. Well if you know nothing about the topic, then why are you meddling with the article ?-Sticks66 14:07, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Age of Enlightenment

[edit]

Dear Чръный - I've been keeping an eye on the "Age of Enlightenment" template. A while ago I pruned it, with the consent of some other people - it was getting too long. There are three main conditions that I've been suggesting - that the "notable figures" be known for their writing (rather than as politicians, musicians, mathematicians, etc.), that their dates line up with the Enlightenment, and that they meet a decent standard of notability. At that time a lot of people were removed, including the ones you recently added back in. I would be happy to discuss this more on the discussion page (see "this list needs criteria for inclusion") Best! 134.174.140.216 (talk) 16:54, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mys Shmidta

[edit]

Hi, you have moved the page Mys Shmidta to Mys Schimdta. This is an incorrect romanization as stated here: [1] could you please revert this move as well as your identical change to the chukotka autonomous okrug template. Thanks. Fenix down (talk) 16:59, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the article back as per WP:RUS.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 19:52, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bible Black (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. magnius (talk) 14:40, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Thin Lizzy. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. The article Hilarion (Kapral) has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Thanks for contributing the new article Jerome (Shaw). However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable by being clearly attributed to reliable sources. Please help by adding sources to the article you created and by making it clear how the sources support the material. See here for how to do inline referencing. Many thanks! PS If you need any help, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 17:04, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New page

[edit]

I just created Elena Frolova. Welcome to contribute if you are interested. My very best wishes (talk) 00:58, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Based on your edits on ruwiki you should be interested... I think she is a good poet, but what she does with her music and song is simply incredible. She takes good poetry, but something I would not be especially impressed with (e.g. "Buzina" by Tsvetaeva is hardly one of her best), and transforms it with enormous passion to something beyond imagination. Probably only best songs by Pugacheva and a few songs by others would be in the same league. Others either do not reach same level of performance or create very nice and beautiful songs, nothing more. Speaking about Blazhenny (or Blazhennykh?) [2],[3], I think we need an article about him too.My very best wishes (talk) 13:15, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Если с белым духовенством всё вобщем ясно: статья именуются так же как и у светских лиц, то с монашесвующими, особенно епископами начинаются уже неясности: вот например, отчего статья именуется "Filaret, Metropolitan of Moscow", а не например "Metropolitan Filaret of Moscow" или или "Philaret (Drozdov) of Moscow", или "Metropolitan Filaret (Drozdov)", не говоря уже о "Philaret (Drozdov)", версии, которую я предлагал.

Ways to improve Yuri Kublanovsky

[edit]

Hi, I'm Kudpung. Чръный человек, thanks for creating Yuri Kublanovsky!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article is about a living person and need more reliable, independent 3rd party sources to assertnotability

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

People of Levantine-Greek Orthodox Christian descent

[edit]

Dear

Since you seem to be a rational soul and know about Orthodoxy and the "Byzantine" (no pun intended!) subtleties of 'old European' cultural categorization and Church(es) history, I’m writing to draw your attention to the fact that some reckless Wiki-Boeotians want to delete the “People of Levantine-Greek Orthodox Christian descent” and the “American of Levantine-Greek Orthodox Christian descent” categories!

See this page

Your erudite editorial help in the current « deletion debate » would be appreciated

Cordially,

--B.Andersohn (talk) 13:53, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hello, you made 4 recent edits to the Kiril article without providing a single edit summary. Perhaps, with 3, they were minor edits, but this one involved the removal of significant information. Maybe the edit was correct, maybe not, but to not explain it is rude to other editors and creates more work for them. If you explain, then we know immediately why you did it and don't have to guess or revert. Why exactly did you remove this info, btw? Malick78 (talk) 12:18, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This passage (with "wife") is not needed. Patriarch Cyril has been never married, in fact he is a monk, that fully eliminates any possibility of getting married. Moreover, three links following this phrase does not contain information about Lydia Leonovа's marital status (1st and 3rd link I couln't open). ~ Чръный человек (talk) 12:33, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll AGF, but in future please leave proper summaries. Bol'shoe spasibo. Malick78 (talk) 22:43, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I see somebody reverted all your edits from today on that page! I happen to agree with the revert, so unless you give proper summaries I'll back the other editor. Especially about the Pussy Riot stuff - that should stay and is entirely legitimate (how you could delete it WITHOUT a summary beggars belief). Regards, Malick78 (talk) 22:48, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The fact is Patriarch never said anything specifically about Pussy Riot. In 2012, there were many cases where people are directly displayed extreme aggression against Christian symbols. Just a case of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was the most famous. The message of the patriarch in the fact that people can not act like that. Patriarch's words were presented incorrectly, their original meaning was distorted. I generally watch the patriarch, but I never heard him say exactly what had happened in the CSC: "they were "doing the work of Satan"". And if he did not say that the whole section is lost it's reason. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 07:56, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that you didn't hear of him saying that is not a reason to delete (without a summary) info with RS. I see that [again you have failed to give summaries]; if you continue to do so I will report you for disruptive editing. I asked you very politely the first time, I can't for the life of me see why you think it's ok to break a basic rule of WP etiquette. Malick78 (talk) 18:38, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This may need your expertise. Do you know if are any images available? My very best wishes (talk) 15:51, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I checked and corrected. Free image is not available. Someone uploaded his photo under a free license, but adminimtrator did not believe that picture was free and deleted it. ~ 16:54, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! However, I am not sure that you made correct move (just to be like on ruwiki). It is my understanding that "Hieromonk Roman" makes sense, but simply "Roman" does not. This is like Apostle Paul versus simply "Paul". Perhaps more important, "Hieromonk Roman" in this context actually appears as his pen-name (strange, is not it?). My very best wishes (talk) 19:43, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Cornelius (Jakobs) for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Cornelius (Jakobs) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cornelius (Jakobs) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Tinton5 (talk) 02:35, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi mate! I saw the above at AFD and it looked like you had stepped away for a couple of hours. So I did some cleaning up, added some sources and responded at the AFD. Please feel free to fix anything I might have gotten wrong (I do plenty with the Catholic Church but Eastern Orthodoxy is well outside my comfort zone). Hopefully the sources I added were okay but feel free to swap them out if you find better ones. It was really just a matter of making a few fixes so I could justify !voting to keep it. Let me know if I can help in any way. Cheers, Stalwart111 07:42, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"The most orthodox" is wrong translation of word "Благоверный". Right-beleiving (from OCA site) is better.
Tomcat (7) 13:18, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
1) Jocular: husband
2) Religion: blessed
3) Christianity: right-believing".
Andrey. Tomcat (7) 15:41, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Isaac Asimov middle name

Hi, could you drop by Talk:Isaac Asimov? There is a discussion of the veracity of Asimov's middle name, which you added in 2010. A tag has been placed on Nektarios (Tsilis) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://orthodoxwiki.org/Nektarios_(Tsilis)_of_Hong_Kong. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for clarifying your reason for deleting the reference to Stepan Oleksenko. But I notice that both the Russian and Ukrainian Wikipedia articles on him describe him as Ukrainian; his parents were Ukrainian; he trained as an actor and worked principally in Kiev. In the context of this article, is it not reasonable to refer to him as Ukrainian? Lampernist (talk) 12:51, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I do not agree with phrase "first language was not Russian". I did not find his detailed biography. I do not know when he moved from Volgograd (then Stalingrad) oblast, where he was born, to Kiev. But the Ukrainian schools in the Stalingrad oblast were not existed. But in Kiev, where he lived after the war, school education was in Russian, although the Ukrainian language and history were also studied. I want to note that Kiev during the times of Soviet Ukraine was for the most part a Russian-speaking city. This is particularly evident in a society of people with higher education. It's incorrect to represent Olexenko as a certain semi-foreigner, to whom the Russian language was not native. The situation was completely different with the Baltic actors. They were born, lived and studied in the interwar period, when Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were not part of the USSR. The study of the Russian language at that time was not mandatory. The culture there was not Russian and not Soviet. Such situation notedly continued even after the entry of these countries into the USSR. Therefore, the Baltic actors were often recruited for the role of foreigners in Soviet films. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 14:05, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
From what you say, the central point about casting actors from contrasted ethnic backgrounds is indeed more strongly made by confining the references to the Baltic actors. Thank you for your explanation. Lampernist (talk) 14:56, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Roman (Krassovsky)

[edit]

Hello

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Roman (Krassovsky) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

I not suppose, that an English Wikipedia is a place for "Russiafication" or "Ukrainization" or another "...ation", but for collecting an information, if it's possible true and correct. And article about Vasyl Hryhorovych-Barskyi was created with this name, that you moved without any explanations. Also I see, that you at the Revision history page left a some words written, that can be understands as an offensive and not accorded with the grammar of the Russian or the Ukrainian languages ("щирый украйинець и сторонник мовы"). Please, avoid it, because I think, it's not a good idea to offend any nation, language etc. Sincerely, --Noel baran (talk) 09:59, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask you too hold off on more edits? I’m going to have to do a lot of cleanup. Thanks. A lot of the translations were extremely literal. And in some casss, there is already an explanation of the name in the article, which may be better since there are some nuances in how various stations received their names. Kievskaya isn’t really named after Kiev, it’s named for the railroad station. TastyPoutine talk (if you dare) 11:12, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A Girl with a Guitar moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, A Girl with a Guitar, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. • This judgment does not apply to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine established by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, but to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate (but actially not depended on Moscow). This news contains reference information: "On December 20, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law obliging the UOC to indicate its affiliation to the Russian Orthodox Church in its name. On December 22, 2018 the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the relevant law.
The document provides that a religious organization, which is a part of the structure of a religious organization with the center in the state, "committed military aggression against Ukraine and temporarily occupied its territory", is obliged to display in its name the belonging to such a center outside the country.
Meanwhile, the UOC stated that it does not fall under this law, since its administrative center is not in Moscow, but in Kiev.
On April 22, 2019, the District administrative court of Kiev granted the application of the Kiev Metropolis of the UOC to secure a claim for the cancellation of the order of the Ministry of culture of Ukraine, in accordance with which the Kiev metropolis of the UOC had to make changes to its name. Thus, the process of renaming the UOC was suspended.
Subsequently, the Ministry of culture appealed against this decision of the court. However, on July 22, the decision of the District administrative court was confirmed by the decision of the Sixth administrative court of appeal.
In response, the Ministry of culture of Ukraine appealed to the Supreme Court with a cassation appeal, asking to cancel these decisions of the courts. In November, first Deputy Minister Svetlana Fomenko said that the Department [i.e. Ukrainian Ministry of Culture] intends in the near future to intensify efforts to resolve the issue of renaming the UOC." After that the Supreme court of Ukraine rejected the appeal of the Ministry of culture ~ Чръный человек (talk) 13:32, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but it is not the part which is giving me troubles. The partI need to understand is:
Veverve (talk) 14:16, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This phrase is very difficult to understand even in Russian: "применение мер обеспечения этого иска путем запрета совершения всем уполномоченным регистрационным органам любых регистрационных действий в отношении сведений в Единый государственный реестр о Киевской митрополии УПЦ и ее структурных религиозных организациях до решения данного спора по существу заявленных исковых требований является целесообразным и необходимым". This roughly means, that all authorized registration bodies are prohibited to perform any registration [i.e. changing] actions in relation to the Kiev metropolis of the UOC and its structural religious organizations prior to the resolution of court dispute on the merits of the claimed claims. This decision of the courts of previous instances was recognized as "suitable and necessary". The rationale for such a decision was that in the case of satisfaction of the claims it can "significantly complicate or even make impossible the execution of the judgment and complicate the effective protection and restoration of the rights and interests of the plaintiff, for the protection of which [i.e. rights and interests] it appealed to the court." ~ Чръный человек (talk) 14:27, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I tried to make a rought schematic of the schisms which came out of the Russian Orthodox Church. Could you please have a look and give me some feedback? I know I still have to add the w:Union of Brest. Veverve (talk) 18:41, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a strange scheme. It is poorly designed. It is poorly rendered. For exampe old believers have never were united, but they are represented by a single line, and the "branches" of the ROCOR by a different lines. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 20:18, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as I said it is a "rought schematic" so of course it is very ugly and hard to read. I am working with a graphic designer who hopefully will take care of the final design and make things neater. As for the Old Believers, I thought about showing the different churches/sects, but I thought it would have made the schematic too cluttered, and that it would have taken a lot of time to do research on every group. I think the Old Believers need to have their own schematics only for them. As for the splits from the ROCOR, I believe there is no problem.
What I am more interested in is: is the data accurate (nothwistanding my decision to simplify by showing the Old Believers only as one movement and not each church)?
As a sidenote, please ping me next time you answer me, as I only saw your answer today. Veverve (talk) 21:28, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate)

[edit]

I read at http://friendsofindonesia.org/ that this church had not come under any omophorion. The Moscow Patriarchte only talks about an "Indonesian mission". Are you sure the IOC is still under the MP? Veverve (talk) 11:26, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could you check this timeline?

[edit]

Hello, could you check this timeline of the schisms from within the ROC and give your feedback? The legends for "**" and "***" will be added later. Veverve (talk) 17:05, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • In this form, this scheme is quite meaningless because it puts very large schisms (Old Believers, the Kiev Patriarchate) in one row with very small ones. There are a number of small splits. But there is often very little information about them. And there are very many small associations that have broken away from the Moscow Patriarchate. Thus, it is almost impossible to create the complete diagram of all those who have separated once. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 17:17, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I have only tried to put the main schisms. Thanks for your feedback. Veverve (talk) 20:04, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It should be noted that information published by representatives of small associations publish about themselves may significantly distort facts. And there are very few scientific studies on this topic were published and these studies are very fragmentary. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 20:20, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Advice for a translation

[edit]

I translated "Православные церкви вне общения со Вселенским православием" to "Eastern Orthodox churches out of communion with Ecumenical Orthodoxy" on WCommons. However, I second guess this decision: maybe "Eastern Orthodox churches outside of communion with World Orthodoxy" is a better translation. What do you think? Need of feedback for another Eastern Orthodox timeline

[edit]

Hello. Could you give me any feedback on this timeline whose goal is to show the juridictional origin of each of the mainstream Eastern Orthodox Churches? Veverve (talk) 20:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was not implying that the CoC was in the Pentarchy, but I understand that it can be unclear the way I presented it. Since it is impossible to say whether the CoC was always autocephalous or if it was once part of the Church of Antioch, I changed beginning the draft. You can see the new version here. Need help in translation

[edit]

Hello. I am having trouble translating part of the quote here from Russian to English. Could you have a look?
I have translated it pretty clumsily using Google translate and a partial translation as: "We must show, not by words but rather by deeds, that not only those who are indifferent to Orthodoxy, not only those who have betrayed it, but even its most zealous adherents can be faithful citizens of the Soviet Union and loyal to Soviet authority, for whom it is as dear as the truth and life with all its dogmas and traditions, all its canonical and service ways."
Veverve (talk) 17:18, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had to rearrange the words to make it clear: "We need to show, not in words, but in deeds, that not only people who are indifferent to Orthodox Christianity, not only those who have betrayed it, but also its most zealous adherents, for whom it is dear as truth and life, with all its dogmas and traditions, with all its canonical and liturgical structure can be faithful citizens of the Soviet Union, loyal to the Soviet government". ~ Чръный человек (talk) 17:32, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also the translation from rocorstudies.org: "We need to show not just in words but in deeds that trustworthy citizens of the Soviet Union, loyal to the Soviet regime, are not only those indifferent to Orthodoxy, not only its apostates, but also its most ardent supporters for whom it, with all its dogmas and traditions, with all its canonical and liturgical order, is as dear as truth and life themselves" (source). ~ Чръный человек (talk) 17:43, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot! I have added your translation.
Still, I have another doubt.
How would you translate: "Всякий удар, направленный в Союз, будь то война, бойкот, какое-нибудь общественное бедствие или просто убийство из-за угла, подобное варшавскому, сознается нами как удар, направленный в нас."
I have translated it as: "Any blow directed at the Union, be it a war, a boycott, some kind of social disaster, or just a murder from around the corner, like the Warsaw one, is recognized by us as a blow directed at us."
The last part - "a murder from around the corner, like the Warsaw one" - seems strange to me, especially since it appears to refer to the Polish-Soviet war of 1920.

Need of information concerning a True Orthodox Church

[edit]

Hello. I am facing a strange situation which I am not sure I understand properly, so I would need your help. From what I understand, the First Hierarch of the ROCOR V-F, Filaret (Semovskikh) (yes, its Russian Wikipedia page is in complete disarray), has apparently been replaced by someone else as First Hierarch, Filaret (Rozhnov). Filaret (Semovskikh) refused this election, and created a new Holy Synod. Semovskikh was then removed from office the Holy Synod headed by Rozhnov.
Trying to explain the situation, I wrote:

- ROCOR (V-F (R)): the ROCOR V-F after it excommunicated its First Hierarch Met. Filaret (Semovskikh) in October 2020; the church had apparently previously elected Filaret (Rozhnov) as First Hierarch in 2019, see also here, here, here, here, and here. I may add it in the future.

However, I find it strange that a new First Hierarch was elected before the current one was officially removed. After patiently looking into the older posts of the official website of the ROCOR (V-F (R)), I found no declaration of the Holy Synod about the election of Filaret (Rozhnov) as First Hierarch in 2019. The only place this information is officialy given is in the biography of Filaret (Rozhnov). Could you make some more research to confirm that Filaret (Rozhnov) was elected as First Hierarch in 2019, before Filaret (Semovskikh) was removed?
Also, could you find the official website of the church Filaret (Semovskikh) is now leading? Veverve (talk) 22:51, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, the website of the church of Filaret (Semovskikh) is this. Veverve (talk) 02:00, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean interim/acting First Hierarch? If so, is Rozhnov considered a locum tenens of the FH?
Ok, I managed to find the resolution of the synod from August 25/September 6, 2019. In it, Rozhnov is indeed elected as interim chairman of the synod with Semovskikh still keeping his mantle of FH. Also, from reading "Establishment of the Sochi-Black Sea Vicariate under the omophorion of the First Hierarch of the PRTs / ROCOR, Metropolitan Filaret", it seems Semovskikh was preparing to retire. The situation is clearer now. Do you think I missed something? Veverve (talk) 15:00, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is something like President and Vice-President. This scheme originates back in the ROCOR. As long as the First Hierarch is alive and well, the position of Deputy First Hierarch is rather an honorary one. But in the event of the death, incapacity or resignation of the First Hierarch, the deputy immediately receives the rights of the First Hierarch. ~ Чръный человек (talk) 15:55, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think a section at Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia should be made to explain this hierarchy. Do you have any source supporting this President and Vice-President hierarchy? If you do, I will use them to create a "Structure" section on the ROCOR WP article. I will also add the dioceses of the ROCOR in said section. Veverve (talk) 16:24, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the section. However, I could not find information about the role of the Vice-President of the Holy Synod, nor the role of the Second Deputy of the First Hierarch; therefore, I would need your help. Veverve (talk) 23:34, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need some feedback and maybe some help

[edit]

Hello!
I have recently created Canon law of the Eastern Orthodox Church. If you think about anything which could improve the page, please tell me. I already know there is too many direct quotes.
Moreover, I think the litterature on the subject is more abundant in Russian, so if you find information you think could improve the article, feel free to add them. Veverve (talk) 19:40, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A page in dire need of improvement

[edit]

Catacomb Church should be improved, but I cannot do it myself due to the lack of source and the language barrier. So, I am once again asking for your help.

  • sources should be checked to see if they match the information given
  • the definition of the subject of the article should be made more precise or more complete; currently, it is very vague; it is especially the case on the reasons why those groups left and how they were considered as illegal — I believe they are not illegal anymore now, but the article states "have moved to an illegal position since the 1920s" so it makes it look like they still are
  • the body of the article is totally unsourced

Veverve (talk) 04:00, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if you are very busy or stopped coming to WP, but I could really use some help on this article. Veverve (talk) 10:12, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of crediting

[edit]

Hello. I appreciate your work on some niche topics. However, it seems when you translate an article from the Russian WP, you do not credit the Russian WP article, e.g. for Josephite movement, Catacomb Church, Orthodox International Youth Festival "Bratya". The Template:Translated page should be put in the talk pages of those articles with proper information. Crediting is mandatory as per CC 3.0. Veverve (talk) 08:24, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have just found fr:Rite russe ancien, which is about the rite which was practised in the Russian Orthodox Church before the Nikonian reforms, which is still practised today by Old Believers. Hello, I have received your email and unblocked. The content actually came from ru:Мальчик у Христа на ёлке. Sorry for the mistake. It's okay to copy or translate content from other-language Wikipedias, but attribution must be given in the edit summary, so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of our license (and prevents patrollers such as myself from making this particular mistake). I will reverse my actions on the article and add the required attribution in my edit summary. There's also a template for use on the article talk page, so I will add one of those. — Diannaa (talk) 03:10, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for creating this article. When we translate or borrow from other language wikis it’s a requirement to acknowledge the source. The best way to do this is to include it in your edit summary (e.g. “translated from ru.wiki”) and there’s also a translation template you can add to the talk page. I’ve added it for you. Eparchy instead of Diocese in the sub-units articles of the Russian Orthodox Church

[edit]

Hi, I see you have contributed a lot in the Eastern orthodoxy sphere, thank you! I would like to refer you to my suggestion in the Talk Page of Eparchies and Metropolitanates of the Russian Orthodox Church regarding the change of term in the Russian Orthodox Church ecclesiastical units from 'Diocese of' to 'Eparchy of' as it's more accurate wording in the context of the Russian Orthodox Church and Eastern Orthodoxy. Rakoon (talk) 14:45, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that "Eparchy" is the most literal translation of the russian term "Епархия". But the fact is that on all English-language diocesan websites of the Russian Orthodox Church, the word "Diocese" is used. "Eparchy" is not used anywhere! ~ Чръный человек (talk) 15:28, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
