Arirang TV (Arirang International Broadcasting) (Korean: 아리랑 국제방송) is an international broadcasting station operated by the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation, based in Seoul, South Korea.[1] It provides English-language information on Korean current events, culture, and history to regions around South Korea.

It began broadcasting in South Korea on February 3, 1997, and overseas broadcasting began on August 12, 1999. The name of the station comes from the traditional Korean folk song Arirang.[2]

Three channels broadcast 24 hours a day in the main language, English, and provide subtitle services in Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese and Indonesian (multilingual subtitle service).

On May 9, 2022, Arirang International Broadcasting launched Arirang Espanol, a Spanish-language YouTube channel.

Arirang International Broadcasting, which currently has approximately 146.25 million viewing households in 107 countries around the world, is communicating with more viewers through various programs.

Channel[edit]

  • Korea (domestic broadcasting): Launched on February 3, 1997. It is broadcast throughout South Korea through cable, satellite, and IPTV.
  • World (foreign broadcasting): World (launched on August 12, 1999) The main broadcasting language is English, and multilingual subtitle services are provided.
  • UN In-house Network (overseas broadcasting): Launched on July 14, 2015. It can be viewed at the UN Headquarters in New York and broadcasts current affairs reports and liberal arts programs.

Arirang International Broadcasting operates through three channels (World, UN, and Korea), using a total of 8 satellite repeaters, it serves as a messenger to inform Korea's past, present, and future to 146.25 million viewing households in 107 countries around the world.

Arirang TV airs a variety of genres of programs covering the international economy, political situations, culture, entertainment, etc., and consists of programs that viewers of various ages can enjoy as well as programs for domestic and foreign opinion leaders.[4]

  • Arirang News: It primarily airs Korean news in English, and covers a variety of fields including politics, world, economy, diplomacy, North Korea, lifestyle/culture, science, sports, and weather. It is held twice a day at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. Since North Korea-related news is broadcast in English, it is often quoted by foreign international broadcasters such as CNN or France 24.
  • New Day at Arirang: Morning news program.
  • The Daily Report: Domestic and international news program.
  • News Center: Main news program.
  • NEWs Generation: A soft news program that discusses hot current issues that the MZ generation is paying attention to with actors in their 20s and 30s from around the world.

  • The Globalists (Wednesday, 17:00 - 17:30 KST): A program that looks back on the lives and experiences of global opinion leaders and talks about what South Korea’s future vision is and where the country should go.
  • SMARTBIZ Accelerators (Thursday, 17:00 - 17:30 KST): Introduces various domestic small and medium-sized companies and provides information on the company's technological competitiveness and prospects in the global market.

  • After School Club (Tuesday, 13:00 - 14:00 KST): Go to one-way broadcasting! A music request show where the audience participates in video chat and communicates with K-pop stars. K-pop fans from around the world participate every week through Google Hangouts.
  • Simply K-Pop (Friday, 13:00 - 14:00 KST): A music program that features performances by K-pop stars and communicates with the audiences.
  • I'm Live (Thursday, 13:00 - 13:30 KST): A mini concert program performed live by talented domestic musicians. You can view the stage in 360 VR.

  • 1DAY 1KOREA (Weekday, 07:30 - 07:40 KST): A daily cultural program series designed to bring viewers closer to Korea's daily culture by highlighting Korea's social culture, major figures in the arts, food, movies, and performances.
  • K-stage 'PAN' (Thursday, 13:30 - 14:00 KST): A Korean traditional music broadcast where you can honestly feel the charm of Korean music.
