December 27 – The Christmas Rebellion begins in Jamaica with the setting afire of the Kensington House in St James Parish, inspiring thousands of black slaves to revolt against their English masters. At its peak, more than 20,000 people will be involved, and more than 500 people will be killed.^[1]
