Basaveshwaranagar is a locality of Bangalore. It is named after Basavanna, a social reformer. It is located in the western part of the city.

Basaveshwaranagar subsumes several sub-localities like Kamalanagar, Water Tank, Sharada Colony, Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) Colony, Kamakshipalya, Kurubarahalli, Saneguruvanahalli, SBI Officers colony, Nagapura, Manjunatha Nagar, Shiva Nagar, Bhimajyothinagar and Agrahara Dasarahalli.

Basaveshwaranagar, being a layout formed by the BDA, has several parks and playgrounds. Notable amongst these is the Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Stadium (ಅಂಬೇಡ್ಕರ್ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಂಗಣ) which was built on the now extinct Dasarahalli Tank. This is located adjacent to Gangamma Thimmaiah Choultry, at the beginning of Agrahaara Dasarahalli. This ground has an exclusive skating rink, running track with space in center for holding all sorts of athletic activities, with a nice big gallery to seat about 500 spectators.

Basaveshwaranagar was also known to have a 400-year-old tree The Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Aalada Mara) which was a home for hundreds of monkeys and birds, it was a known public park in the vicinity. The tree met its death in 2009 when it cracked up in the middle of its main trunk & fell apart. It has now been replaced by a new one.

Transport

Basaveshwaranagar is well served by buses (68, 88, 181, and 96 series) and is about 5 km from the Kempegowda Bus Station and Bangalore City Railway Station. Sharada Colony bus station is the main bus junction. The other bus stations are Saneguruvanahalli bus stop, BEML Layout Bus Stop and Shankar Nag Bus Station.
