Tunghai University (zh-tw: 東海大學, Pe̍h-oē-jī: Tang-hái Tāi-ha̍k), was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1955. The University is located on the western side of Taichung, Taiwan, an urbanized area. On the grounds, Luce Memorial Chapel (designed by noted architect I. M. Pei) is a local landmark. The logo of the university contains the cross in reference to the statement in the founding documents that it was "founded in the love of Jesus," and the three linked circles referring to the Holy Trinity as well as the motto, "Truth, Faith, Deeds."
Tunghai villa, Taichung County, is the nearest commercial area. Tunghai Art Street, the Taichung Metropolitan Park and the Feng Chia Night Market are also near campus.
