How to cite

Hello, Pug6666. I noticed your comment in the sandbox asking about how to create a citation. In the simplest form, you type a tag like this: <ref> to start a citation and another like this: </ref> to end it. In between, you put the actual text of the citation. Let me know if you need any other help. A. Parrot (talk) 01:11, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks I get it now.Pug6666 (talk) 01:12, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

How do you add information when it is hard to to find a source that would be considered reputable, but that information is important. A good example of this would be negative effects of missionaries. This has stopped me from adding new information to an article on many instances.

If you cannot find reliable sources, you cannot add the information. On the negative effects of missionaries, though, I'd expect numerous peer-reviewed papers in history, sociology, or ethnology journals. Books published with academic publishers would also do - have you tried Google Books? Huon (talk) 00:00, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Archival bots

I have attempted to set up archival for this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cities_and_towns_during_the_Syrian_civil_war but it isn't working. Pug6666 01:22, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Fixed -- I hope. The archive location was set as the same page you were asking to be archived. It needed to be targeted to Talk:Cities and towns during the Syrian civil war/Archive so that it had a different page to move the content. Mkdwtalk 01:43, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of an article

Hello, I've noticed you labeled the article for PROD. As it says, it "must only be used if no opposition is to be expected. The article is marked for seven days; if nobody objects, it is deleted. The first objection kills the PROD." Since I improved the article, shall I remove this label now? Thanks, Yam Shalom11111 (talk) 14:31, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Okay great, I saw that you removed it. Good luck with "biting newbies and vandals" (I'm just kidding of course;)! Oh, and make sure you respond on other users' talkpages and not on their user pages, like this one. Shalom11111 (talk) 00:28, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Deletion

Can only admin delete pages in PROD that are old enough to be deleted. If not how do you delete it other than by blanking it? Pug6666 01:55, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Only admins can delete pages. Blanking the page would probably be unhelpful. Huon (talk) 01:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Hey Pug, and thanks for the question.

You are correct in saying that an administrator is the only one who can remove a page. Technically, blanking a page is deleting it, but not removing it. However, if you blank your own article, chances are an administrator will pop by and delete the article per WP:CSD, or any other other editor might just slap a deletion tag on it. Unfortunately, if your not an administrator, you can't remove a page. But you can ask. Cheers, Kevin12xd (contribs) 02:00, 26 May 2013 (UTC).

Archive bot not working

Archive bot has not be been working should have archive this page today but it didn't minimum to archive was 4 but today should make it enough to archive moved it down to 3 a few hours. Still nothing. Just moved it to 1 still nothing whats wrong?Pug6666 02:31, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

You sometimes have to wait a few more hours than you'd expect to have your talk page archived. Be patient--if the bot doesn't archive for a day or two more, then you can wonder why it isn't working. --I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 02:41, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

DRAMA HERE {{Syrian civil war detailed map}}

The annotated map is created by Template:Syrian civil war detailed map, which itself uses several templates to create all those annotations. For example, the dot for Alghooz is created by this code:
{{location map~ |Syria |lat=36.4637744 |long=37.2922481 |mark=Location dot lime.svg |marksize=6 |label=[[#Alghooz|Alghooz]] |link=#Alghooz |label_size=0 |position=right}}
The documentation for the annotation template can be found at Template:Location map+. Huon (talk) 21:33, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Pov Push

How does one appeal a page being marked for arbitration. List of indigenous peoples has weak if any relevant connection to the Arab Israeli conflict. One could argue that the status of the Palestinians as indigenous people is disputed but that is not a good enough reason. I feel there is good reason to be appeal this protect or at least amend it but don't know how.Pug6666 20:47, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

It's best to wait until you gain some amount of experience before you edit articles that are under discretionary sanctions beyond minor edits (edits like reverting vandalism or copyediting), never mind appealing to the arbitration committee to get said sanctions removed.
The fact the article is under discretionary sanctions probably means the article has withstood conflict related to the offline Arab Israeli conflict, even if the reasons why aren't immediately obvious to a new editor. I dream of horses @ 22:29, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

CAMLA

You removed a G12 copyvio speedy tag from this page, saying "rewrite, don't delete". That's an excellent principle, and I've been advocating it here for years. But the entire article was copyvio, and we cannot leave it that way. (It was also highly promotional, and I accordingly deleted it by both G11 and G12, and gave some focussed advice to the editor.) The time to rewrite copyvio is immediately--if you are not going to proceed immediately to do so, it must be stubbified or deleted. (I have found by experience that the safest course is to stubbify, add an "

tag, and save the article, and then rewrite.) (I also doubt the organization would give permission, if they realized the implications of our license)

A page is needed, so please write one if you can. There's no need to have the article to do so, as it was all copied from the web site. DGG ( talk ) 23:32, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Preventing speedy deletion

Have I edited this Pokemon Ash Gray article enough from the original to prevent it from being speedily deleted? Also I would like to know how to go about continuing to fix this. Is it ok to use a Lets Play on youtube as a source for this? Pug6666 18:11, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

It's not up for speedy deletion.
YouTube isn't considered a reliable source, because the site is user-generated. So, no, you can't use it as a source. --I dream of horses @ 18:27, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

My question was more if it could still be nominated for speedy deletion. Also why is the template of cities and towns in the Syrian civil war only displaying its most recent version on its own page? I made a ton of edits in a short frame of time due to my own mistakes but that doesn't explain why it is displaying old reversions here. Pug6666 18:35, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Well, it's being considered for deletion at Articles for deletion, so I guess it can't be speedy deleted anymore.
Which map are you referring to? I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 18:52, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
The issue with the Syria Civil War map was that you had a stray pair of curly bracket due to which the "disputed area" dot was not interpreted as a part of the same map. However, the Golan is irrelevant to the Syrian Civil War, and I have removed that dot entirely. Huon (talk) 19:17, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't tagged with A1, it was tagged with A10, having an infobox is irrelevant. What A10 was explained on the tag on the page. Ramaksoud2000 (Talk to me) 01:55, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Archival \3

Why is this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Northern_Mali_conflict_%282012%E2%80%93present%29 not being archived? The archival template is correctly entered. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pug6666 (talkcontribs) 16:18, 16 June 2013‎

I think the problem was a typo in the archvie name - the bot can create archives that aren't sub-pages of the page to be archived, but that requires a special key. With the typo and without a key the bot did nothing. I fixed the typo. Huon (talk) 23:39, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Archival Glitch

I have the archival setting at one 1 thread minimum left. So the first thread on this page should have been archived by considering that a newer one has been there for about 4 days. Did the template parameters change?Pug6666 19:57, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

No, it does not seem to be due to a parameter change at the bot's page. What might be confusing it, though, are the five messages at the end of your archive_1 page. They are all the same with the same section headers and are the same as your first thread on this page. Try renaming that first thread, then give MiszaBot another day (it's supposed to come 'round one time a day) to archive old threads. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 21:03, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, what seems to be happening is Miszabot is seeing the thread, archiving it, failing to delete it, and then archiving it again the next day. Take a look at User talk:Pug6666/Archive 1: you have the same thread five times there. Howicus (talk) 21:12, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I signed the post in the section that isn't archiving for you. That should fix it. Howicus (talk) 21:44, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Archive bot malfunction,

The archive bot repeatedly archives this pages and doesn't delete them from the talk section. It has just been copying everything archivable to archives every 24 hours. I have manually cleared the page but I am wondering if there is an issue with the bot. I have not changed the counter value should I? Pug6666 18:56, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

I cannot see how this behaviour can be anything but a bug. To repeatedly archive the same thread without removing the original simpy can't be the intended (or even an acceptable unintended) behaviour. I'll leave a note to that effect at the bot owner's talk page so the more tech-savvy people can take a look. I have also re-added one thread to this talk page which hadn't been archived yet (and which should be archived in a few days, so we'll see comparatively quickly if it was just that first section of the repeatedly-not-quite-archived content which caused problems or something more general). Finally I've removed the duplicates of threads that were archived multiple times from the archive.
I don't think the counter value can have anything to do with this effect; your archive size was far lower than the maximum size when it started, and the bot shouldn't have felt the need to create a second archive. Even then it should do so automatically without you ever increasing the counter value. Huon (talk) 19:31, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Your input is required on the topic of Syrian Civil War maps

Dear user, you input is required on the question whether adding Israel as 5th belligerent to Syrian Civil War maps is legitimate, due to you previous participation on Syrian map module in June 2013. Please discuss it at talk:Syrian Civil War#Adding Israel as belligerent on Syrian Civil War maps.GreyShark (dibra) 09:00, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

This is a dishonest and non neutral comment and inappropriate canvassing. The discussion is not to ad Israel as 5th belligerent to Syrian Civil War maps, but to show that in a map showing the "Current military situation in Syria" Israel is occupying the Golan heights. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 13:05, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
