Revision as of 15:30, 5 May 2013

Hello, will you please use a proper ALT for the article List of awards and nominations received by Vidya Balan and please have a look through the whole page if you find a problem then fix it because i want to re-nominate it for FLC but i want an expert user get satisfied with the article for being nominated for FLC

Thanks for Ray

Thanks for pitching in for Ray filmography. Got some good comments at PR. I am planing for FLC on centenary celebration. 2 cents from my side. - Vivvt • (Talk) 23:37, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is an old documentary on him, but not sure of its release date. By people's comments, I assume it to have released just after his death. See if you can get some info out of it - Vivvt • (Talk) 21:02, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I thought its providing some trivia kind of information thru the scroll bar. - Vivvt • (Talk) 18:16, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I was waiting for comments from Rambling Man. Nothing from him yet. I know time is passing by but will wait till Monday. I tried reaching out to other editors as well. Only 2 of them commented on PR. Lets see. Will try for more people till Monday. - Vivvt • (Talk) 17:37, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, congrats on FA for Mother India. That was one of the exceptional teams! Kudos to you guys. :) - Vivvt • (Talk) 23:16, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The references format is taken from the existing FLs. I believe there should not be any issues for that. I will still go ahead and reply on PR. (I hope its not too late.) - Vivvt • (Talk) 01:08, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it ok if we mention about The Alien which is said to have inspired Steven Spielberg for E.T. in the article? This was his planned work but could not be started for some reason. What say? - Vivvt • (Talk) 02:49, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have added it in the article. See if you want to tweak it. - Vivvt • (Talk) 03:56, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you very much. Your support is very much appreciated in all the Ray articles I have worked with. Now, I am planning to take it up for main page appearance on 6th May. Whats your take on it? - Vivvt (Talk) 13:35, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nominated it here. See if you want to change the blurb to make it more attractive. - Vivvt (Talk) 18:20, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The list got promoted for 6th May. - Vivvt (Talk) 11:58, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great Eastern Hotel

Hi Dwai. I created Great Eastern Hotel (Kolkata). Apparently it was privatized in 2005 but I'm not sure what its current status is - whether it is a functioning hotel or about a derelict as ever. Perhaps you (or Amartya or Tito or your other page stalkers!) know more? --regentspark (comment) 14:52, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I dont think Dulal Mukherjee is notable enough, yet, to start an article on. Great Eastern article is actually a very good one for DYK. Slight more meat is needed. Moreover, there are old images of the hotel which can be added.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:53, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Added image. Hopefully with the correct licensing! --regentspark (comment) 16:06, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank god you are not a woman Dwaipayan!!, otherwise under the new amendement to Indian Penal Code I could have been booked for cyberstalking. :P Great Eastern is still under renovation. They have added a new wing, you can see the GMap update discussion here GMaps Few pics in January 2013 Official page stating they will open in 2013. I have seen some interior pictures in Skyscrapercity, but finding it difficult to trace back. Amartyabag TALK2ME 15:37, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sholay

Hmm. Keep on improving it where you can, and let me look it over again in a few days. As with all older Indian films, there are probably some claims that may be hard to back up. I am still involved with getting Priyanka Chopra to FA, but we have some new help on that now. Sholay would certainly be a good one to do this year, as would possibly Mughal-e-Azam. Have you looked at that one? BollyJeff | talk 18:03, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, whatever you think, but some of that is already in the Origin section. Actually, it might be much easier to get a film to FA than an actor. BollyJeff | talk 18:16, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I need help with these footnotes. I changed the Chopra from 'citation...' to 'cite book' style, like most of the others. But when I tried to then change the footnotes from harv to sfn (again like the others), I got lots of errors like this "Cite error: ref tag with name "FOOTNOTEChopra200025.E2.80.9328" defined in references is not used in prior text;". Any idea how to fix this? I think the references will need to be consistent. BollyJeff | talk 15:11, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help with the sfn/harv sources now? I left one in a bad state so that you can see the problem that I was having with the others. BollyJeff | talk 01:45, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
One may even want to archive all the url's in Sholay to avoid link rotting. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:48, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In the themes section there are a couple sentences from Prasad that have cites to Banerjea as well. Why is that? I get the feeling that more could be done with access to the books, but I am kinda stuck now. How did you get so many sources for Mother India? BollyJeff | talk 14:55, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think it is comprehensive enough now? I think that Mughal-e-Azam may actually be better suited for an FA try from a completeness point, but if you want to go ahead with Sholay that's fine. BollyJeff | talk 18:36, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good news

Good news, Barfi! has just recently passed the GA review! (Sorry, forgot to explain more) ----Plea$ant 1623 11:14, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Swabhumi

I came across Swabhumi article, and found out that it was started by you back in 2006. I seriously doubt if it meets the current notability guidelines, however it is a fringe topic and might be kept, as I found few RS in GNews search. In its current avatar it has been reduced to a place for holding get-togethers, marriages and parties and not close to an amusement park!!!. May be you can consider developing the article or whatever you think might be suitable. Amartyabag TALK2ME 15:51, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have not been to there in years, so no idea what it is in its current avatar. It was supposed to be a center to showcase heritage etc; not sure either whether it meets notability. Hence, not sure what to do.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:16, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FAC and review

Dwai, I've created Wikipedia:WikiProject Rosblofnari. You didn't inform me of Sholay but informed me of a lot of other things. Can you update the bottom of that page whenever you want to alert me of an FAC or review, that way I can keep track of what needs doing.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:49, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shortcut is WP:RBN, thanks! Feel free to add any other articles to the list needing review/FAC or requests for GA. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 16:53, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, since you added so much information about homos, I hate to think what an appropriate image would look like :-) Was all that really necessary? BollyJeff | talk 19:27, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not too sure about all that feudal stuff in that section either. Even the Feudalism WP page seems to be unclear of its real meaning. What is the point of quoting these analysts with their flowery language if it doesn't really help the reader to understand the film more? For example, why were there homosexual mannerism during that song? One thing that I found interesting but did not add (yet - I forgot which source it came from), is that normally the land owner is hated by the lower people, but in this case, the people looked up to the land owner (Thaker) and he protected them. I am not sure how best to add that though. BollyJeff | talk 22:35, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"Far from FAC"? In what ways? BollyJeff | talk 00:53, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see - I thought you meant far as in it's not close to FA quality yet. BollyJeff | talk 01:03, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Now you've got me ROFL!! This is why they should have kept the uncensored version where he was killed. BollyJeff | talk 15:19, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Only problem is that no one is making comments. BollyJeff | talk 20:38, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance: Mother India

This is a note to let the main editors of Mother India know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 3, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or one of his delegates (Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs)), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 3, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Mother India is a 1957 Hindi epic melodrama film, directed by Mehboob Khan and starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, and Raaj Kumar. A remake of Khan's 1940 film Aurat, it is the story of a poverty-stricken village woman named Radha (Nargis) who struggles to raise her sons amidst many troubles. Despite her hardship, she sets a goddess-like moral example of an ideal Hindu Indian woman. In the end, she kills her criminal son for the greater good. Mother India metaphorically represents India as a nation in the aftermath of independence, and alludes to a strong sense of nationalism and nation-building. While some authors treat Radha as the symbol of women empowerment, others see her cast in female stereotypes. The film was the most expensive Hindi cinema production and earned the highest revenue for any Hindi film at that time. Mother India became a definitive cultural classic and is regarded one of the best Indian films. It was India's first submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1958, where it made the shortlist. The film won the Filmfare Best Film Award for 1957, and Nargis and Khan won the Best Actress and Best Director awards respectively. (Full article...)
