Teddy (musical)

Hi there - I'm assuming that this edit, restoring Teddy (musical) back into a sort of Son Of Fiddler on the Roof, is an error or a Wikipedia system malfunction? Otherwise it's a touch baffling: the originator had included the FOTR material but then removed it ... at least I think that is what had happened ... yup, I'm officially confused ... Cheers! No idea what's going on. I'll ce it again. Lfstevens (talk) 21:01, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant, many thanks. Cheers DBaK (talk) 21:25, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Woman-Identified Woman

Hi Lfstevens, thanks for your recent edit to The Woman-Identified Woman. I think you were on the right track, especially with your removal of editorializing words like "shrewdly" and so on, so bravo for that. Also, I think cutting down the section "Political implications" is the right way to go. Unfortunately, cutting it down without supplying any sources for the changes doesn't really help. In the end, I reckoned it wasn't an improvement because any new material should be sourced, and it wasn't. I've commented on the article Talk page, at this discussion, and look forward to hearing your thoughts there as well. Mathglot (talk) 09:52, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings and...

Greetings Lfstevens, I see that you've removed the copyedit tag I placed here but can't see that you've solved any of the issues... or am I missing something? Regards, --Technopat (talk) 23:28, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing! I removed the tag because the article is subject to deletion, because it is unsourced. Once that is corrected, it would then be reasonable to copyedit it. Lfstevens (talk) 03:17, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

January 2019 GOCE drive bling

The Minor Barnstar
This barnstar is awarded to Lfstevens for copy edits totaling between 1 and 3,999 words (including bonus and rollover words) during the GOCE January 2019 Backlog Elimination Drive. Congratulations, and thank you for your contributions! Reidgreg (talk) 03:04, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request for Abraham Lincoln

In the "assassination" section on the Abraham Lincoln page, I suggest that the words “According to eyewitnesses, his face was fixed in a smile when he expired” should be changed to “According to some accounts, at his last drawn breath, on the morning after the assassination, he smiled broadly and then expired”. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.18.220.81 (talk) 21:41, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll take a look. Lfstevens (talk) 23:04, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A recent edit to Abraham Lincoln

You recently changed many references in the Lincoln article from this to this. Your changes engendered multiple redlinks in the references section. Another editor changed the content back to its pre-redlinked form. I am not familiar with the referencing style that you added to the article of:

<ref name="Randall19472"><cite class="citation book">[[James G. Randall|Randall, James Garfield]] (1962). [https://books.google.com/books?id=DHUqAAAAYAAJ ''Lincoln: The Liberal Statesman'']. Dodd, Mead. [[Amazon Standard Identification Number|ASIN]] [//www.amazon.com/dp/B0051VUQXO B0051VUQXO].</cite></ref>

I was wondering what this style is called and if it is listed somewhere among the various cite templates or Cite styles... Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 07:14, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment I'm feeling a bit sabotaged. I've never seen the <cite class="citation book"> syntax before and had no intention to use it. I don't know who/what to blame. Maybe visual editor? Thanks for getting rid of it. Lfstevens (talk) 07:27, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't revert it, another editor did. I don't use VE, but that sure sounds like a possibility. Maybe you should report this bug at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback, Mediawiki VisualEditor/Feedback or Phabricator/Visual Editor. Heh, something that has saved me countless times form publishing my errors is taking a look at my edits in Preview. Cheers, Shearonink (talk) 17:55, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Filed feedback. TBD. Lfstevens (talk) 01:46, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Aquaculture of giant kelp, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sori (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

March GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors March 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work in January's Backlog Elimination Drive. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles.

March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here!

Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Reidgreg and Tdslk.

Can you explain why you felt the need to delete a default sort and uncategorized tag when in fact it was uncategorized? MensanDeltiologist (talk) 07:40, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

copyvio-revdel

Hello Lfstevens, you removed the copyvio-revdel template from Medagama National School before it had been reviewed by an administrator. See the note at the bottom of the box. I've reverted your edit. An administrator will eventually do their review and normally they will remove the template when they are done. Gab4gab (talk) 04:52, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the violation so I removed the tag. I will remove the copyedit tag, which is what attracted me in the first place. No reason for anyone else to waste their time on this trivia. Lfstevens (talk) 05:06, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help with an article

Dear Lfstevens, I noticed you edited the page Sequenom, relating to genome sequencing. As I'm a new user and just getting to grips with Wikipedia I would really appreciate help with creating a page for a genetic sequencing and research start up (called Sano Genetics) that I'm working with. I want to avoid COI where possible, so would be really grateful if you would have the time to write a brief page up about the company or if you could help point out where I went wrong with the original page. You mention that you mainly do copy-edits, so if I sent the original text would you be able to make it conform to Wikipedia's standards? Any help would be really appreciated, I know it's work for you so if you don't have the time or energy please ignore! Either way, best wishes and thanks for reading this - Clarealev (talk) 11:57, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing. I usually don't do company promos, but if this case is special, I'd consider it. You can send me your stuff and I'll take a look. Best wishes! Lfstevens (talk)

Copyediting

Hallo, Thank you for copyediting Anna Freeman, but there are a few problems:

  • Date format used in lead is "born", not "b."
  • Lead should duplicate content, so birth date should be in "early life" as well as in lead.
  • Why did you remove the unresolved tag saying that copyediting to change slanted quotes is needed?
  • I don't see that she started lecturing in Switzerland that year in any sources - where did you see this?

PamD 04:44, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing! I checked the MOS and b. is ok, but only outside the lede. OK, then! I'm guessing it's OK to duplicate, but not required (didn't see anything definitive). I removed the tag because I did the ce. Happy to hit it again if needed. Looks like you've taken the article over. Good! Lfstevens (talk) 07:14, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But you hadn't done the specific bit of copyediting mentioned in the tag: did you read it? And as a regular copy-editor, don't you know about using straight quotes? PamD 09:54, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Are you curious, attempting to educate me, or asking me to do something? Please clarify. Lfstevens (talk) 17:58, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Curious why you removed an unresolved tag, attempting to educate if you didn't know that slanted quotes are a problem, asking you not to remove unresolved tags. PamD 05:35, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I pulled the tag because I was satisfied with my ce. Didn't notice the quotes. That issue is not really a ce question. Slanted is slanted. Lfstevens (talk) 21:59, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back to the Editing newsletter.

Since the last newsletter, the team has released two new features for the mobile visual editor and has started developing three more. All of this work is part of the team's goal to make editing on mobile web simpler.

Before talking about the team's recent releases, we have a question for you:

Are you willing to try a new way to add and change links?

If you are interested, we would value your input! You can try this new link tool in the mobile visual editor on a separate wiki.

Follow these instructions and share your experience:

📲 Try Edit Cards.

Recent releases

The mobile visual editor is a simpler editing tool, for smartphones and tablets using the mobile site. The Editing team has recently launched two new features to improve the mobile visual editor:

  1. Section editing
    • The purpose is to help contributors focus on their edits.
    • The team studied this with an A/B test. This test showed that contributors who could use section editing were 1% more likely to publish the edits they started than people with only full-page editing.
  2. Loading overlay
    • The purpose is to smooth the transition between reading and editing.

Section editing and the new loading overlay are now available to everyone using the mobile visual editor.

New and active projects

This is a list of our most active projects. Watch these pages to learn about project updates and to share your input on new designs, prototypes and research findings.

  • Edit cards: This is a clearer way to add and edit links, citations, images, templates, etc. in articles. You can try this feature now. Go here to see how: 📲Try Edit Cards.
  • Mobile toolbar refresh: This project will learn if contributors are more successful when the editing tools are easier to recognize.
  • Mobile visual editor availability: This A/B test asks: Are newer contributors more successful if they use the mobile visual editor? We are collaborating with 20 Wikipedias to answer this question.
  • Usability improvements: This project will make the mobile visual editor easier to use.  The goal is to let contributors stay focused on editing and to feel more confident in the editing tools.

Looking ahead

  • Wikimania: Several members of the Editing Team will be attending Wikimania in August 2019. They will lead a session about mobile editing in the Community Growth space. Talk to them about how editing can be improved.
  • Talk Pages: In the coming months, the Editing Team will begin improving talk pages and communication on the wikis.

Learning more

The VisualEditor on mobile is a good place to learn more about the projects we are working on. The team wants to talk with you about anything related to editing. If you have something to say or ask, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Where you wrote Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno I changed it to Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno. It is standard to use en-dashes rather than hyphens in that situation, and that is codified in WP:MOS. En-dashes are also used in ranges of pages or of years or of letters of the alphabet, etc. Michael Hardy (talk) 16:36, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor bug

Hello, wanted to let you know that some sources copied over from Reservoir computing to Types of artificial neural networks didn't come along correctly (can be seen from the [[Reservoir computing#cite%20note-2|[2]]] markup). You'll need to open up VisualEditor on the original article as well to copy the refs. (Saw it because we're testing a filter to catch edits like these and wanted to let you know) – Thjarkur (talk) 19:47, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Pommerman challenge

Hello, Lfstevens,

Thanks for creating Pommerman challenge! I edit here too, under the username Doomsdayer520 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

Thank you for your new article on the Pommerman challenge, but note that it is currently an "orphan" meaning that no other Wikipedia articles link TO it. This makes the article tough to find for interested readers. For tips, follow the links in the notice at the top of the page.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.
