How to remove the redirect from page "local Realism" to "Principle of Locality"?

Dear wikipedia helpdesk.

The page "local Realism" is now redirected to the page "principle of locality" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_locality#Local_realism

The two titles are not equivalent - Local Realism is a concept that joints the principle of locality with the principle of realism, not just one of them. It's a concept of the foundations of physics , with a particular interest in topics like quantum computing and quantum information technologies. There are numerous examples where the concept 'local realism', or "local realist", is used in about a dozen of wikipedia pages.

@Teresa F Mendes: Begin a discussion (perhaps a copy of this post?) in a central location such as the talk page of the local realism redirect page. Invite folks who have edited the relevant articles recently to join, and post to the talk pages of any relevant wikiprojects (Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics ?) since it's a potentially large and ambitious set of changes. If you decide to proceed, the mechanics are simple: just edit the existing redirect page to remove it current contents (the redirect syntax) and replace it with your new article. Infinite Flight topic issues

Hi. I wanted to find how I can contact an administrator over a topic issue. There have been many attempts by people (including myself) to edit this made to make it more modern and I would like to discuss it with a moderator to understand how I can do this. Where to request code quality review?

Probably some subpage of Wikipedia:Reference Desk. Howewer, I have already one compatibility one: On one of the last lines, you use Error.captureStackTrace. This is a relative new Technology, contained only in the newest version of Javascript, and will probably throw in older browsers, so you might want to check for its existence somewhere before and add a custom implementation if it doesn't exist or is not a function. Hello Mike and welcome to the Teahouse. Wikipedia has articles, not mere "pages". This is a subtle but important distinction. If you meet the Wikipedia definition of a notable musician(click to review) as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources(sources unconnected with you that have chosen on their own to write about you, not press releases or routine announcements), you may merit an article. You can request that others write one at Requested Articles, but there is an extremely large backlog and it may not be done quickly.

Please understand that Wikipedia is not like social media- article subjects must be shown to meet our special definition of notability. We aren't interested in enhancing search results for the subject, or in what the subject wants to say about themselves. 331dot (talk) 14:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

There are people in the world who will take your money and write an article for you. However, unless you are notable by our definition, we will delete the article. It doesn't matter how good the article is. Don't fall for this scam. We delete about 200 articles every day. How to report a bug related to the citation generator

Hi everyone. I'm using the citation generator when adding citations on article by just using the URL. Sometimes, the citation is not generated properly. Dates are filled into the name field and vice-versa. Is there a way to notify this error to the developer? Sociable Song (talk) 16:33, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

I think you can file an issue here. It requires someone to add a new case in Zotero so it might not be fixed for a while. It's not clear to me whether the Zotero project solicits these requests or not, but if it's a popular website it would probably be good to open an issue. – Thjarkur (talk) 16:46, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Are there any up to date programs that make patrolling new pages easier?

Having trouble replacing an image

Hello,

There is a map on this article that is in Japanese/Chinese. It was originally imported from the Chinese version of the page. Since it is an English-language page, I modified the map image to include Roman letters for the place names (here). Wikipedia thinks that the new image is suspicious and won't let me replace it. Any suggestions?

Hello, Jen. Where are you trying to upload your modified map? (You should upload to Commons). What happens that you say is won't let you upload it? File:The Twelve Kingdoms.png is licensed with the GPL, so you are permitted to use and modify it, as long as you provide proper attribution. --ColinFine (talk) 17:50, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

A submission I was considering submitting however I found the information already published in Wikipedia

On the subject of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), I was searching for "Auditory processing disorders" because there are multiple kinds of (APD. Nothing came up so I started to create a page. However, I recently found that there is a page called "Auditory Processing Disorder" (singular rather that plural) that has all the information that is needed for publication. I want to delete everything in my draft but do not know how to do that. I will appreciate any assistance to fix the problem I created.

Why do Wikipedia makes or ignore unfair advantages it does to some companies?

Some time ago, I have edited the DigitalOcean Wikipedia page, removing the note 34, a link to a so called comparison of DO and Linode. The page, that states it's updated on December 29, 2019 (at the end of the page, on top of the footer), actually does not present an updated comparison. I will only point out two obvious things about why that page is misleading, things that are easy to check even for non-technical readers.

First thing, back in 2015, Linode started to move from Xen to KVM its services. So, Linode, as DO, uses KVM... Second, the lowest price for both of them is $5/month... not as stated on that comparison. This can also be easily checked on DO pricing page and Linode pricing pages.

And I can continue to point out things that is misleading in that article... But my problem here is not that, but the willing of some Wikipedia editors to promote such things, without checking, or without understanding or even on purpose, misleading readers and creating an unfair advantage of a company over others.

I thought Wikipedia promotes truth and doesn't takes parts, but now I start to think there are some groups of interests that work for and have interest in promoting some products/services of some companies and work to mislead readers. To answer your larger query, unregistered editor, the ease of creating an anonymous Wikipedia account means users with an incentive to promote an organisation (e.g. employees of the company) can easily do so by editing or creating an article, though it is against our policies. Fortunately, other editors are adept at finding these harmful edits, deleting them, and blocking the culprit, though not every edit is caught. You are encouraged to contribute by removing promotional content; if you desire, create an account and edit for a short while to be eligible for tools and editing privileges useful for combatting promotional editors. Moving an AFC

Quick question. I moved 2020 in Northern Ireland from draft space to main space just now, not realising at the time that it had been submitted for AFC. I think I've done everything I should in terms of accepting it, apart from removing the AFC template from the article. Will a bot come along to do that or do I need to do it? Restoring a Deleted Article - What to Do About Redirect

This is about Draft:Ammar Campa-Najjar. There was a BLP of this person. It was then deleted pursuant to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ammar Campa-Najjar (2nd nomination) and redirected to2018 United States House of Representatives elections in California. A deletion review endorsed the deletion and noted that the article could be restored if there was new information to establish general notability. The subject does not currently satisfy political notability. There has recently been discussion to the effect that the draft should now be accepted. However, there is currently a redirect, and the redirect says that it is a redirect with history and should not be deleted. What can be done to accept the draft? The usual AFC script will not accept the draft if there is a redirect at the title. Is human action needed? If so, where do I request the human action? Getting load-time metrics for a script

I'm currently working on my own anti-vandal tool, and was wondering where I could ask for people to measure how fast it loads? It's usually under half a second for me (After loading it for the first time. If the cache is empty it takes about 2 sec), but I imagine it varies across machines. --MoonyTheDwarf (Braden N.) Should short descriptions include vital years?

I have been adding short descriptions, and improving (I hope) existing ones. I was under the impression there was a guideline that the short description for a biographical article should include the vital years, or year of birth - but I can't find it documented anywhere. But some of my changes have been reverted, claiming this made the short description too long. So now I'm not sure whether to include them or not. Gronk Oz, The guidelines are at Wikipedia:Short description (perhaps other guidelines exist, but I've never run across them and couldn't find more). My reading has always been that you should aim for no longer than 40 characters, and that otherwise the guidelines say fairly little. The notice is not about lack of citations, it's about copyright violation. Specifically, it claims that some part of the article may be a copyright violation of https://www.weaa.org/people/karsonya-wise-whitehead#stream/0 . Geographical databases question

Hello all- I have been doing work on obscure geographical terms in southern Xinjiang making use primarily of the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China's index of minor locations and of GEOnet Names Server in conjunction with old maps, news articles, books and scholarly papers. Gallery perrow oddity

On c:File:I Wrote a Full Song in 24_Hours-K7r58jQqK8I00227.png and on 18 other images derived from one video the other versions gallery works as expected, four "Blackery with guitar" in one row for a total of five related images in this subset, with a perrow=4 gallery parameter. On enwiki the perrow=4 fails for File:I Wrote a Full Song in 24_Hours-K7r58jQqK8I00227.png and for me, what is the problem, is it only me, does it work for you?

Question of curiosity: least read articles on Wikipedia

Is there any way to find the least popular or least read article on English Wikipedia? By whatever definition we might have. I would assume "fewest number of views for the most extended time" (or something like that). And, if not the least popular, how about a list of the "bottom grouping"? Thanks. Joseph A. The pageview data is available here but as far as I can see no one has ever made a "least popular" report from it. I for one think this would be very interesting (but might be full of zero view pages). I don't think this would be WP:BEANS-y since the majority of our pages are unpopular and are only overseen by recent changes patrollers anyways. @West.andrew.g, do you think it would be worth it to assemble a one-off report on this? – Thjarkur (talk) 20:39, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

The long tail is looooong. I can probably run a report for 2019, although it is likely too long to share in Wikipedia format when we consider articles with <10 or <100 views. What is the use-case? Can we move this to the talk page of WP:5000 or WP:Top_25_Report? I also see the WP:BEANS potential here, as watchlister counts are proportional to views, but at the same time, vandalism that no one sees has minimal impact (soapbox: see my prior research, massive traffic pages are a far greater vulnerability if we measure vandalism impact by viewership). Same here, no real utility apart from curiosity. I'm trying to upload to Commons a more accurate version of File:RosettaStoneAsPartOfOriginalStele.svg, before an article in which it appears runs as TFA on January 24. When I try, I get an error message:

"<a> elements can only link (href) to data: (embedded file), http:// or https://, or fragment (#, same-document) targets. For other elements, such as <image>, only data: and fragment are allowed. Try embedding images when exporting your SVG. Found <image http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink:href="2974d5a2d85405a5.jpg">

I've asked about this problem on Commons' help desk, but nobody has responded so far. I'm guessing that the error is related to the JPG image of the Rosetta Stone embedded within the SVG (I did not edit the JPG when revising the image), but I don't understand the error message beyond that. Parrot: your SVG file contains a link to an external URL, and that is (apparently) not allowed, probably due to potential for copyright violations. to cure this you will need to modify the SVG file so that it actually includes the image itself, not a link to it. It does, but the uploaders seem to have extracted it from the European Space Agency page and declared it public domain while doing so, on the grounds that the stone itself is public domain. The stone's etched text makes its surface not entirely two-dimensional, which means photos of that surface are technically copyrightable. It shouldn't be a problem, but I've had to worry about the copyright status of so many photos of ancient artwork over the years. A. Parrot (talk) 18:49, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

SVGs with embedded raster files are generally problematic on commons: Users incl. other MediaWiki projects (per InstantCommons) should be able to download and use the SVG without further difficulties: No external links loading tracking pixels or causing havoc in offline scenarios, no giant SVGs with raster files in a data URI, no weird scripts for animations (personal opinions, the policies allow more), etc. Also see lots(!) of SVG help + project files on commons. –84.46.53.192 (talk) 19:05, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

@A. Parrot: The URL in the original complaint message was not the Rosetta stone or anything else on Commons: it was a URL at www.w3.org. This means it was likely something your SVG editor added for some obscure reason of its own. @A. Parrot: I can't say without looking at the .svg file source. My speculation is that the www.w3.org URL is unrelated to the image and is elsewhere in the file. Thanking editors

Hi all, When I thank an editor for their contribution to an article on its history page, why don't they stay publicly thanked? I can't remember every single time I do this, and at some point it appears that they are ready for further plaudits. The idea that I might have done it before is only mildly embarrassing, but on the other hand some people might remain unthanked for this reason. Help:Notifications/Thanks#Details and limitations says: 'You can only thank someone for a given edit once. After you have thanked someone for an edit, the "thank" link is replaced by the word "thanked". The "thank" link may reappear later but using it again will not send a new thanks.'

It was me who added [2] the last part based on testing. Somebody added a citation needed. I haven't seen it documented elsewhere but I made a new test now on an edit [3] by PrimeHunter2 I also thanked in 2015. The account did not receive a new thanks notification and the thanks does not appear in the log [4] (the log entry today is for another thanks). PrimeHunter (talk) 12:36, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

@MinorProphet: May be the Special:Log can help you. If you choose the 'Thanks log' from the dropdown list and enter MinorProphet in the 'Performer' field, you will get a list of all your thanks to other editors. On the other hand, if you enter User:MinorProphet in the 'Target' field, you'll get a list of thanks to you from other editors. If you fill both fields, you'll see thanks from a specified user to another specified user. @AlanM1: Could you perhaps explain further what is meant by "it may alert them in various ways, which can be disruptive."? I enjoyed reading your timely and helpful reply, which made me think some more about the subject of thanking editors. The articles I write tend to be 'minority interest', which get about 5 hits per week. I write them mostly for my own satisfaction, and I try to make them as comprehensive, well-spelled, gramatically correct and well-reffed as I can. If someone makes even a small constructive edit (eg making a WL), that usually means that they have taken the trouble to read the entire article and tried to improve it, and are therefore in some way interested in the same sort of out-of-the-way things as me: in my book that deserves a thank. I don't usually thank people for minor spelling or grammar edits, which anyway doesn't happen a lot. On the other hand, I often manage to type "the the", and one particular editor corrects this for me, for which I thank them, and have learned to watch out for this myself. I believe there is an automated tool to achieve this task, but I can never remember its name. I don't remember thanking anyone for multiple edits, although Special:Log will show me now that I know it exists. It is also possible to thank somone in an ironic way, meaning "I don't agree with your reversion of my edit of 'your' article, and it's really not worth the bother getting upset about it: your opinion is noted": but I have only done this once or twice during my whole time on WP. Anyway, I thank you for your reminders, and I shall only thank you for your welcome contribution if you thank me for this one. PS I also remember acoustic modem couplers, although I've never used one. PPS Would you recommend me for WP:TYS, or is this not the done thing? @MinorProphet: Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo lets you set web and/or email notification for thanks received. The "web" notification adds to the "Notices" list in the top toolbar, which, like the email notifications, can be distracting if one were to get a lot of them. I've known editors to object to getting ping'd, too (probably those that participate in a lot of discussions). I wasn't necessarily referring to myself (it hasn't been a problem for me – I don't get thanked much ) and I didn't look at your thanks sent log – I was just making a general comment. As far as getting thanks for minor edits, I imagine that someone who does a lot of semi-auto edits to fix things like common typos and formatting errors would probably prefer not to get thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 18:20, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

On Sarah Vaughan's wiki page, a picture of Ella Fitzgerald is posted as, "The Divine One." Sarah Vaughan was often referred to as either the "Divine-One", or "Sassy." Although Ella was also divine, I believe her picture was incorrectly posted on Miss Vaughan's wiki page. Younger fans looking to bone up on their knowledge and appreciation of these two wonderful artists, who are no longer with us, might be unnecessarily confused. Would someone kindly look into this, and make the appropriate correction?

wrong "Links to this page"

Kamiyah Mobley

There was a movie and interview on TV a few days ago about the abduction of baby Kamiyah Mobley over 20 years ago, so I came here to see if there was an article about the crime. There is, and it's titled Kamiyah Mobley. I went to the article and immediately noticed a sentence in the opening paragraph that said, "She had been raised under (and now willingly goes by) the name Alexis Manigo." I thought that part in parentheses ("and now willingly goes by") was odd and, more importantly, completely contradicts what was conveyed on the TV programs (movie and post-movie interview with Mobley herself, conducted by ABC's Robin Roberts), so I looked at the source that was attached to see if it verified that claim. It did not, so I removed the parentheses part a few minutes ago. I looked in the history of the article and saw it was added in August 2018 by someone who just stuck that odd part in to an existing sentence. I then looked at that person's talk page and see he/she has been warned repeatedly about adding content without a source. I then looked at that person's other edit in August 2018 and saw he/she had changed the name of the article from "Abduction of Kamiyah Mobley" to just "Kamiyah Mobley" and included this very unusual edit summary: "living individual. while she is famous for having been kidnapped, she is alive and so could go on to do other things later in life. No disrespect to her family or her if they happen to see this." It's the title change that prompted me to come here for help. I feel this title change was wrong and the reason makes absolutely no sense. That editor is basically saying that he/she changed the title to just her name because MAYBE one day she'll be notable on her own. But the article is solely about the abduction case. Based on all this, I have a few questions. Was this an appropriate title change? Can a person have an article about them (with the title being their name only) if their only "claim to fame" is being a kidnap victim? You are not logged in, so we know you by your IP address instead of a user name. The IP address is shared, so different people use it. You are seeing messages intended for those earlier people. You may simply ignore the messages. I better solution is to create a login and use it. Many thanks. Nevermind, I am working as a volunteer so I am not paid. And all I am doing is simply updating radio station schedule, which has nothing to do either conflict of interest or vandalism. And keeping information up-to-date is one of the most constructive thing people could do on Wikipedia. This page has been updated regularly by me as we change the schedule quite often and it makes no sense that updating a schedule needs these complicated procedure. It appears the main reason why you were reverted because some of the text was out of place. To the people who combat vandalism (who try to use quick heuristics to determine if an edit was constructive or not) it may have appeared like a test edit. Citing references

I have just added to an article on the Medical Practitioners' Union. This is my first attempt at editing Wikipedia. I was happy to add references but I couldn't identify how to insert a reference. When I saved the article it said "Cite error - there are reference tags without content" but I couldn't see these reference tags. What do I do? Inaccurate information

Whilst trying to resolve inaccurate information on a page, it became apparent that when what I was arguing was not in the biased opinion of editors, the talk thread could not be updated with supporting material. Deeply concerned with the biased 'editorial volunteers' at Wikipedia who (it would seem) would rather control a narrative than correct information. Upon scrutinizing one editors profile, it became apparent that conflicts had arisen in the past with other users. If this isn't resolved, it puts into question every article on Wikipedia for transparency and integrity.

With the current climate of rampant fake news propaganda and narratives, it's disturbing that it's seems Wikipedia is now too a victim. Blackest knight99 It would seem that you created this account for the expressed purpose of making the above statement; it is difficult to comment on your situation without knowing more about it. I can say that Wikipedia is interested in Verifiability, not truth, as truth is in the eye of the beholder. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about article subjects. If there is incorrect information in an article, we want to know what it is along with any sources to support the claim being made. Since I cannot seem to reply to anyone I'm putting this up here:

Due to the nature of the material in question, I was reserved in my initial post. I wrote help desk in regards to the Tommy Robinson page and the false claim that he is far right. When editors asked for evidence it seemed I could no longer edit the post so I made a new account (this one) in the hope of rectifying the issue. I direct your attention to the recent Sappho award in Danish Parliament speech by Tommy Robinson explaining the nature of the media's attack on him and why he was falsely labeled far right. As I cannot provide a link to the YouTube video, I cannot provide a direct means, but a search on YouTube will find the video in question.

Blackest knight99 If you have independent sources covering his speech describing himself, that might be a possibility for adding to the article(though that would not mean what other sources say could be removed). Otherwise, Wikipedia isn't interested in how someone describes themselves, they are free to do that in other ways(as this man has done). As I said, Wikipedia summarizes what independent source say. If Mr. Robinson doesn't like how sources describe him, he needs to address that with them, or change his views and actions so that they describe him differently. 331dot (talk) 14:30, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

@Blackest knight99: Tommy Robinson (activist) is described as "far right" in two reliable sources (see WP:RS) referenced in the article. Wikipedia does not define "far right" and we do not accept a definition for the term from some random source on the Internet. We just report the way our reliable sources use the term. If you find a reliable source that states that Robinson is not "far right", you may add that to the article, but you may not remove the current referenced usage of the term. Further discussion should take place on the article's talk page, not here. Hello, TheLinkzGamer. For both technical and legal reason., Wikipedia accounts may not be deleted. You can request a Courtesy vanishing. If granted, this will change your user name to a long random string, which has no connection with your former username. But previous signatures, if any, will not be changed. You don't make mobile edits so I guess you mean the desktop version of the site on a mobile device. You can add this to your CSS:

The article Equestrian at the 1956 Summer Olympics contains this text:

This can't possibly be Kari Tolvanen, as he was only born five years after the event took place. This should be disambiguated as Kari Tolvanen (equestrian) or something, but how? No such link Kari Tolvanen appears in the article. JIP | Talk 22:59, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

ADMIN HELP

I am married to Ray Wylie Hubbard and was checking his Wiki page to see if it was up to date. There were several errors that someone else had edited in. It seems someone who goes by @pumpkinbutter erased everything I added and put back his misinformation. I don't know the ins and outs of how to put stuff on Wiki so I asked a friend to post it for me with updates. If there is anything I wasn't supposed to do please let me know but I don't understand why all of my edits have been undone and misinformation from someone who does not have facts straight can override it.I spent a lot of time working on the sources and making sure everything was correct.
