TÉLÉTOON is a Canadian French language cable television specialty channel that specializes in animation programs. It is the French version of the English television channel, TELETOON. Most of the shows are dubbed from their English counterparts. TÉLÉTOON launched on September 8 1997, while its English counterpart, TELETOON, launched on October 17, 1997. Originally, both stations had similar schedules, airing the same episode of the same program at the same time. Nowadays, the scheduling is not always the same, due to the fact that Télétoon carries some translated programs that its English counterpart does not, as they are on other cable networks.

Also, unlike the English version, programming during the day is commercial-free (other than for promos); since much of the French TÉLÉTOON's audience is in Quebec, Quebec provincial law prohibits paid commercials during children's programming, which is generally the morning and afternoon hours.

Ownership of TÉLÉTOON is divided between Corus Entertainment (50%), Astral Media (50%). The name is a portmanteau of television and cartoon.

Le Détour sur TÉLÉTOON

Animated programming targeted towards teen and adult audiences airs during Le Détour programming block, the French version of The Detour on TELETOON, much of which is in the vein of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. However, unlike Adult Swim, and, although there was a strong early commitment to air diverse and international programming, as well as the ability to air a great majority of material uncut, Le Détour has seemingly refused to incorporate a single anime series.

Programs currently airing on Le Détour sur TÉLÉTOON

Some of the programming airing on the French version of Le Détour is different than the English version of The Detour.

English translated names are listed after the French names.

The new channel will feature a mixture of older animated programming, including anime. More information on this should be forthcoming.
