The 2013 National Scout Jamboree is the 18th national Scout jamboree held by the Boy Scouts of America from July 15, 2013 to July 24, 2013. It is the first national Scout jamboree to be held at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia and the first jamboree to include Venturers as participants. Projected attendance is over 50,000 Boy Scouts, Venturers, volunteers and staff.

This jamboree will be operate more like a World Scout Jamboree with subcamps that promote maximum interaction. The Summit will also be the venue of the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019 hence the 2013 event will also be an effective test of the venue's capabilities.

Events

There will be three shows at the 2013 Jamboree, all occurring at the Summit Center stadium. The first show, which will occur on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, will be titled "Welcome to West Virginia" and feature Carly Rae Jepsen.[1]

The second show, which will be titled "Celebration of Scouting," will occur on Saturday, July 20, 2013.

The closing show, held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 will be headlined by pop rock band Train.[2][3]

Advancement

New merit badges that will be introduced at the jamboree include Game Design, Programming and Sustainability. Additionally, the Mining Merit Badge will be offered at the Jamboree as a pre-released merit badge.[4]
