Good Evening, can you please revert all the edits by 89.241.193.38 on the My Mad Fat Diary article please? I have reverted the last two and given the ip editor a vandal welcoming message already but you can add to these if you wish.

War in Afghanistan (2001–present)

Good Afternoon

Can you please keep an eye on user Nickfelds please as far i can tell he has breached 3RR today but without using the undo tool, he just used edit instead and has not been blocked also i cannot revert last addition or i will breach 3RR on the War in Afghanistan (2001–present) article.

I have recently left a note on his talk page regarding what references he has to make the change but have recieved no reply, by looking at his contrib's he only edits that one page with the same edit and mostly edits late at night/very early mornings with no edit summaries.

DON'T DELETE ADDITIONS BEFORE CHECKING YOUR FACTS ELSEWHERE

Not sure why you think that a novelist with three crime novels listed on Amazon, Waterstone's, and websites worldwide should be excluded on grounds of notability! The author has created a character who was worthy of publication and the author happens to be author of a bestselling legal handbook going into it's third edition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zumdorf (talkcontribs) 16:39, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you believe that an author is notable enough to be listed, then it's up to you to provide evidence of that. Merely adding a name to a list doesn't tell us anything. Being featured on a bookselling website does not mean that the author is notable, it just means that s/he has a book for sale. If the legal handbook is a best seller then there should be some sources showing that (and not just press releases or the author's autobiography). On what list is the book best selling? ... discospinster talk 17:22, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, There are a huge number of female detective characters in this Wikipedia list which are also recently published and yet have authors who are unknown in any other field, so how do you decide to include them and not others? Celia Conrad is rather prominent on the web if you look, with many photographs of her, about her legal publications and submissions to Parliament etc. Legal handbooks certainly may be judged bestsellers when in the third edition, which you can see by looking the book up, and these sorts of books are not like 'popular fiction' and so don't appear in lists. Nobody would publish a handbook in updated enlarged editions if the book had not sold well the first and second times!

All of the other entries in the list are written by an author that already has a Wikipedia article. One's presence on the Web doesn't determine notability either; the criteria are that the subject has been significantly discussed in multiple reliable sources, or, in the case of an author, the criteria can be found at WP:AUTHOR (it basically has to do with significance in the field, wide influence, etc. -- in other words, being considered to be notable by others). As for the legal handbook, if it doesn't appear on any lists of best sellers, how can it be claimed to be best selling? Note also that "writing a best selling book", by itself, is not sufficient to meet the notability criteria. ... discospinster talk 02:01, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I find that your reasons that they be significantly discussed in other media quite irrational in an encyclopaedia, as either someone is a female fictional detective or they are not, and not every character listed here is attached to those that have a Wikipedia article already. We do not live in an entirely media-commentated world, and because a character was in a TV series should not mean it worthy of inclusion either. I would therefore delete the following which you seem to think worthy of inclusion:

  • Samantha Adams is an investigative reporter in Atlanta debuted 1988 in a book series by Sarah Shankman, first two books published under pseudonym 'Alice Storey'. BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED
  • Finny Aletter is a stockbroker in two books 1987 and 1990 by Yvonne Montgomery.BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED
  • Kate Banning is a former journalist, now editor, in Nashville, in three country music-themed mysteries 1997-1999 by Cecilia Tishy.BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED
  • Charlotte Bronte, the author, sleuths in a series by Laura Joh Rowland, commenced 2008.BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED and I don't think a famous author referenced by a hardly known writer counts either.
  • Clarice Dyke is an early female detective, created in 1888 as the wife of an existing detective character, by 'Harry Rookwood'.BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED
  • Ruth Traill is the first female detective in English fiction, in a penny-dreadful of 1862, by Edward Ellis.BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED

Where are these author's entries not linked on the Wikipedia? I think your deletion criteria is on these grounds unjustified, and the entries, to be truly encyclopaedic, should therefore include characters who have appeared in all fictional works no matter how 'notable' an editor here thinks them, which makes it highly personal and hardly notable 'by others'.

(talk page stalker)

Zumdorf, first off please stop SHOUTING. It's generally considered rude. Second, Discospinster is not responsible for Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Creative professionals, it is a community product. If you think it needs changes, the place to discuss those changes is the related talkpage, Wikipedia talk:Notability (people), not here. If you disagree with its application in specific cases such as you list above that should be discussed either on the respective talkpages or on Wikipedia:Notability/Noticeboard. LeadSongDog come howl! 14:32, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discospinster, Nobody is shouting, and I am not a talk page stalker! I am emphasizing the inconsistency YOU are displaying in this notability policy - or should one say 'policing'. If there is any point to Wikipedia it is that ordinary mortals can increase the sum of human knowledge, and I am pointing out that there are at least 6 entries here that by the criteria of notability you seem to apply ought not to be there...and if you allow those, then why not others which should be included, on the evidence supplied amply online. I simply added a really good fictional female detective in a published trilogy that readers of the Wikipedia looking up crime fiction ought to know about; it does not seem right that the principles of the Wikipedia should be applied to what you alone think is suitable and notable. I note you are not in the UK, but in Canada, so you perhaps have not been in a public library here in the UK and browsed shelves of crime fiction and found any fresh fictional female detectives recently. The UK fiction market is somewhat different from that in Canada or the USA. I don't have a problem with Wikipedia's notability policy per se, but with the fact that you seem to think you alone have the right to decide against what other users think should be included but are inconsistent.

I didn't say you were a talk page stalker, that template is used for self-identification, as I (LeadSongDog) did. The excessive use of allcaps and excessive bolding, such as your "BY YOUR CRITERIA, SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED" and your "DON'T DELETE ADDITIONS BEFORE CHECKING YOUR FACTS ELSEWHERE", is indeed considered to be wp:SHOUTing. Perhaps a more general review of the wp:Talk page guidelines is in order. Deletion of other's postings (except on your own user talk page) is definitely not on. LeadSongDog come howl! 17:13, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As for the other entries listed, you (User:Zumdorf) are free to remove them based on the same criteria. It's possible that I missed them during my first review of the article. ... discospinster talk 17:22, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have not answered my point above but keep on stressing wikipedia talk page 'rules'. Deal with the question of your inconsistency, please, as to why my entry must be removed and the six I listed that are irrelevant by your inconsistent criteria must remain. This is unacceptable from any contributor, let alone someone clearly keen only to allow their knowledge to be displayed.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zumdorf (talkcontribs) 17:56, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have actually deleted the six just now, as well as Alicia Allen - which is a shame as, if you are an administrator, surely you should be telling this user you are researching all of them and creating pages to increase knowledge. Heigh ho, I shall watch to see what addition you do allow according to your criteria. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zumdorf (talkcontribs) 18:08, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not going to read all of this, but I do notice spelling errors, and in the first paragraph, above, in the phrase, "going into its third edition," the possessive adjective "its" is spelled wrong. It should be "its", without an apostrophe, not "it's", as if it were a contraction of two words.CorinneSD (talk) 19:03, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Astonish Design

This page should not be speedily deleted because...

CSD G11: "the mere fact that a company, organization, or product is an article's subject does not, on its own, qualify that article for deletion under this criterion."

I'd like to also disagree that the article is not sufficiently encyclopedic or that in it current form, it is only promotional. The page has four sentences, all four based on statements of fact, not of opinion. That said, I'm hoping to work with you to edit this article so that we can both agree that the article meets all standards of criteria.

CSD A7: Does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this point, and will be looking forward to working with you to better explain and illustrate the significance. This is one of the reasons I added the "stub" tag. The problem with "speedy deletion" is speed - I believe that given some time and effort, this article could meet all of Wikipedia's standards and practices.

I will work on editing the article at this time.

notability|Events|date=April 2013

Hello, it is on Bread and Butter tradeshow. I added some pieces from an article from www.spiegel.de/international/germany... and another one from the N. Y. Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/14/fashion/berlin-celebrates-bread-butter-trade-show.html?_r=0) to "Talk". I hope this can say something about “the notability of this event”.

Please help improve the article. My English is not sufficient, I think. I couldn't even decide how to say this: The name BREAD & BUTTER is a reference(allusion) to the term Butterbrot.

Thanks, --Schwab7000 (talk) 17:34, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to have marked this for deletion on the 22nd April and it has completely disappeared, without discussion, by 25 April and is now a purposeless redirect? Exactly why? And how can I argue this? This book has been out for a little over a fortnight and has not yet been reviewed by any o fth emajor outlets who usually take a month or two to review small press releases - a little time before over-eager editors jump in with their magic deletion tool would be a good idea - the rush with which some editors delete is one of the reasons Wikipedia is often a less than useful resource. Feminist??? And good job reverting vandalism

Why are you a feminist? You know in countries like Canada, and the United States, women are often treated better than men, even in court cases relating to divorce. But I do understand the reason for third world countries. I think people should not call themselves feminists, instead call themselves HUMAN there should be NO differences because of gender or race, being anti-female is wrong and being a Feminist adds a touch of bias, instead put a userbox that shows you support equality, as being a feminist means you support women over men. (Which offended me a tad bit).

why would you delete my post that such a disgraces to me and my opinion isn't there freedom of speech and freedom of the press on the ten amendments you should look it up yourself because the deletion of that post did affect me and not only me but my opinion is suppose to be free to anyone out there. sincerely,a mad person with lost RIGHTS!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.199.35.251 (talk) 01:55, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the bulk of the section. Nothing in here is about "foreign fundraising," only Asian-American fundraising: "Pan is the president of a company called "Golden Arrow Property" (金箭房地產有限責公司).[28] Oliver Pan's office is in 35 East Broadway, New York room 506 handles finance, banking, insurance and real estate.[27] He also has an office in Mendham, New Jersey.[30] Some people in the Chinese community believe Liu is being framed.[27] Pan's funding activities extended beyond Liu, as he was listed as a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton during the 2008 presidential campaign.[30] Ru Mei-hua (盧美華 Lú Měihuá), director of planning for John Liu, helped him rise from a councilman 10 years ago to a major political force mainly connecting Liu to a network of Asian American businessmen in NY.[31] She has been considered a key to understanding the fund raising details from donors, but denied requests to be interviewed.[31]"

Furthermore, the one citation of foreign fundraising came from one sentence in a 2009 NYT article about an investigation. There's no follow-up if you search Google News since then.

Hence, I think leaving the section in is irresponsible (and possibly racist - just because Liu looks "foreign" does not mean he's getting foreign money).

EDIT: I realize confusion now - my edit was reverted without explanation, and I reverted back. The second reversion was without explanation.

Yes, that is the one that I was referring to. ... discospinster talk 23:12, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

Hi Discospinster, I appreciate all of the info about the deletion. I do find Wikipedia more challenging than I anticipated and am still trying to understand my way around. Per the deletion request, I did removed the college's I had listed, but in order to make my subject significant and of interest, do you think if I list the services my medical office offers, that would qualify as significant or notable? Molar28 (talk) 01:39, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Molar28[reply]

Hi. What you need to do is show how the organization is notable by Wikipedia's criteria. Basically, has the company been significantly discussed in reliable sources? (For example, newspaper articles, well-known web sites, etc.) It can't be just a listing of information about the company. More information can be found at WP:Notability and WP:ORG. In the meantime I will put the article in your user space so you can work on it. It's at User:Molar28/Amarillo Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. ... discospinster talk 01:42, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you would have to change the drop down list from "User" to "(Article)" and remove your user name and the slash, leaving just the article name. ... discospinster talk 03:24, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections to Doris Wishman article Removed?

Why did you remove a couple dozen corrections I made to the article on Doris Wishman? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.249.152 (talk) 21:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Corrections to Doris Wishman Entry?

I would ask you to please respond to my inquiry about removing numerous corrections I made to the entry on Doris Wishman.

The contributions were removed, you claim, because they "didn’t appear constructive to me." I am unfamiliar with Wikipedia's 'constructiveness' protocols. Since they corrected numerous factual errors made by the original contributor, it is my opinion that they were highly constructive.

Many thanks for responding or for restoring my corrections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.249.152 (talk) 22:21, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback request

Since I know you're online at the moment, I thought I could ask you — I have improperly used my rollback rights in a content dispute at Thank You (Led Zeppelin song) and other articles (earlier today; my most recent use of rollback was to revert those rollbacks). I've done this a few times now, and I don't feel comfortable having the rights anymore if I'm going to habitually misuse them. If you could remove them, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Jeff Johnson (Bass)

The comments on Jeff Johnson's Wikipedia page come straight from his short biography on his record label site (http://originarts.com/artists/artist.php?Artist_ID=26). They are both true, accurate and can be confirmed by any A-List jazz musician in the Seattle jazz scene, as well as the owner of his label whom I know personally. Although Jeff doesn't always update the calender on his website, he gigs daily. What was NOT true, accurate or even remotely acceptable was the false death notice recently posted on his page which was not appreciated by those of us who know him personally! It would be greatly appreciated if in the future, you and others would exercise due diligence and do your research when altering articles about living people, especially statements which pertain to their deaths. I'm sure his mother and other family members would not have appreciated being frightened in this manner had they run across the reference to Jeff's death as I did! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dat JaZzCat (talkcontribs) 07:47, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why you're going on about a false death notice as I have nothing to do with that. I removed content that was clearly WP:PEACOCKy in nature, in that it was not stating facts but merely promoting the subject. Furthermore it came from the record label's web page, which may bring up copyright issues. ... discospinster talk 13:16, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discospinster, you're apparently not listening! Jeff's short bio is NOT going to cause issues! I personally know all of the players involved, i.e., Jeff Johnson, Hal Galper, Jessica Williams as well as the owner of Origin Records, John Bishop. I work/perform with musicians from that label, including doing promo work for some of their concerts. So please get a clue! And quite frankly if you don't think a false death notice on a living person's page is a problem then you really need to check your standards when it comes to accuracy in reporting! Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:07, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I said that I had nothing to do with any false death notice. The issue here is the neutrality of the content. The article is not supposed to talk about how wonderful and talented he is. It is only supposed to present facts and references. "He is one of the most on-call working musicians in the competitive Seattle musical arena and his contribution to jazz is substantial and continuing." That is not a neutral sentence, so it does not belong in the article. ... discospinster talk 19:14, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. So saying that Ella Fitzgerald is known as "the 'First Lady of Song' and the 'Queen of Jazz' is not allowed, either, I suppose? Or going on to say that "she was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing." Why don't you go and edit Ella's page now, because those statements and monikers are clearly subjective and will act to promote her albums. That is utterly full of bologna! Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:21, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Those are things that other people have said about her. One of the references in the article is a book called "Ella Fitzgerald: A Biography of the First Lady of Jazz" and another is called "Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song". Here's another place where she is complimented. If you can show me where someone else has said that Jeff Johnson's contribution to jazz is "substantial and continuing" then that can go in the article (his own record label web page doesn't count). ... discospinster talk 19:27, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are many sources, but this one is from when Jeff was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame. Read to your heart's content and then kindly quit debating an issue that you clearly know nothing about. http://www.earshot.org/Publication/profiles/profile_12_06_Jeff_Johnson.html Dat JaZzCat (talk) 19:37, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sir or madam, I am trying to make an edit to the SSD page for the Sullivan School District of Sullivan, Illinois, and you continue to reverse my edits.

United Ants article

Hi. We have problems with the UNITED ANTS article on wikipedia. We have a company founded before this article was written called ANTS and registered as ANTS and UNITED ANTS for spectacles and music events. Our main concern is that this article has been written after we founded the company and we have rights of use of the name in Europe already and we are registering the trademark in the States too. Also, as wikipedia is a very powerful tool, when someone searchs for UNITED ANTS on a search engine, the first page is the article on wikipedia and we are losing clients because of this. I would appreciate if we could find a solution for this: or to remove the article written after we registered the name or to have two articles under the same name. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.152.172.98 (talk) 08:23, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid there's not much that can be done about that, since it's Google's algorithm that determines what results searchers are going to get. Even if your company name is a registered trademark, it doesn't legally prevent an encyclopedia from having an article about an organization with the same name, since Wikipedia is not competing with your products or services.
If your company is notable — that is, if it's been significantly discussed in multiple reliable sources — then there can be a Wikipedia article about it under a slightly different name (for example United Ants (company)). ... discospinster talk 14:33, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
