    English Version of an article

    Hi Team,

I am a big fan of the band Club des Belugas but I can only seem the find the German article de:Club des Belugas.

I cannot seem to find the English version. Is it me or is that it actually doesn't exist? I see that in this article the band is mentioned but there's no link to the English article Saint-Germain-des-Prés Café.

Also, if the article does not indeed exist in English I will go ahead and write it. To do so, can we just "clone" the German version onto English or we have to write it from scratch?

    Thanks, RogerPubill (talk) 06:12, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@RogerPubil: You can translate the German version into English, you can also write it completely anew. You should use Wikipedia:Article wizard to start the new article. –Ammarpad (talk) 08:29, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Advice on translation is at WP:Translation. Note that the German article has no citations, so wouldn't be acceptable here at enwiki. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:34, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page needing discussion by experienced editors and admins

The page Apex (gang) is a contentious subject and is always going to be liable to attract editors pushing differing views. Someone has, I believe, just re-added a lot of old material that was removed a while ago. In any case it has a much longer entry than it warrants in Wikipedia, given the differing opinions cited by police as to whether it qualifies as a "gang" and whether it actually existed as a coherent whole or was just named thus after a loosely-connected group of young offenders connected on social media and only existed for a brief moment in time in 2016. It's been a bone of contention and attracted a lot of attention on tabloid media and "shock jock" radio show hosts, and used as a recruitment tool for far-right extremists, amongst other things. At this point I am just asking for some input as to how to go about admins keeping on top of changes, and trying to re-establish a NPOV and also stop it growing out of proportion to its notability, etc. (This discussion also belongs on the Talk page there, I realise, but I would like to attract a few experienced editors to it first!) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:27, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Laterthanyouthink. Knowing nothing of Australian gangs (or absence thereof) I nevertheless thought your question merited some acknowledgement before the day is quite over. The banner on the article's talk page links to a couple of WikiProjects which may attract the attention of editors with insight into the issue. It also carries a link to the National Library of Australia which may be willing to help with verifying and updating citations. You mention admins, but admins don't act as arbiters in content disputes; they are ordinary mortals with a few extra tools – mainly block, delete, protect or revdel. If page protection seems called for, requests go to this page. Other specifically administrative matters can be raised on the administrators' noticeboard. But I'd start by raising your concerns on the talk page and notify ("ping") the editors whose edits you have concerns about. Hope some of this helps: Bhunacat10 (talk), 23:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello : Bhunacat10 and thanks for your guidance, much appreciated. I will read and learn from those pages you've directed me to, and also review the Apex article and work out the best approach for this one. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:02, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to make a official artist page on Wikipedia?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorrra (talkcontribs) 16:34, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page is there for you to write a little about yourself and how you hope to contribute to Wikipedia. It should not be used for an article, but you can work on an article in your sandbox. Wikipedia does not have "official pages", but an article on an artist can be published if the artist has been written about in independent WP:Reliable sources. The article should summarise what these sources say. There is more advice at WP:Your first article and Wikipedia:Notability (people). Dbfirs 17:00, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Dorra. As Dbfirs says, there is no such thing as "an official page" for somebody - in fact there is no such thing as "a page for somebody" (though people do say that loosely sometimes). What we have is articles about people (and other subjects). If we have an article about an artist, it does not belong to that artist, the artist and their associates are discouraged from editing it directly, and it is a consensus of editors who decide what should go in the article, not the artist. --ColinFine (talk) 17:59, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mass move (or edit, rather) pages (or templates, in this case) to a new subcategory?

Hey all, I usually find answers to my MOS, editing, or guideline-type questions using various Google booleans. I couldn't really find a fitting answer this time, so I figured I'd ask. In this case, take {{1866 shipwrecks}}, which together with all the other shipwreck templates—ranging from 1850 to the present—can be found in Category:Ship navigational boxes, taking up space and drowning (no pun) out the other ship navboxes.

I get that it technically isn't the wrong category for them to be in, but for the sake of categorization itself, perhaps it would be better to move these into a subcategory of their, e.g. [[Category:Shipwreck navigational boxes]] (not yet created). The way I see it, doing this manually would be quite a task, since the templates would need to be edited to swap cat:Ship navboxes for cat:Shipwreck navboxes. Quite a daunting task even with HotCat. (Or am I missing something?)

Is there a way to speed up this process using a script? Or can anyone point me to where I can put in a request to have a bot do this? I considered WP:CFD and WP:MOVE, but neither is really the right place to ask, since only one new category will have to be created (this I can do myself) and also because none of the templates actually need to be renamed. I have a feeling I'm not using the correct search terms and that I'm overlooking something here. I look forward to your answers. Thank you. Jay D. Easy (talk) 17:22, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jay D. Easy. Have you looked at AWB? I've never used it, so I may be wrong, but from the little I've seen, that is the sort of task it can help with. --ColinFine (talk) 17:44, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Jay D. Easy This would be pretty easy with AWB. Pull in the templates and alter the cat...Naraht (talk) 17:47, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Image re-sizing

Greetz, Helpdeskers. Can you take a look at the lead image here, and suggest why I can't enlarge it? If you look at it in source-mode, you'll see I'm using the excessively massive |upright=3 parameter, but that illustrates my point; while it should be massive, the picture itself remains the same (small) size regardless of what parameter is chosen. Any advice gratefully received, as ever. Cheers! ——SerialNumber54129 17:53, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

the image itself is 225x155, meaning it can appear no larger than that. It is a non free image, so must be low res to be safe. if you want to, you can try asking Metropolitan Police for legal permission to use a full size image, but not much else. Good luck! WelpThatWorked (talk) (talk) 18:04, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

An enormous number of links on musical theatre articles point to pages once hosted on an American university site but since moved. I have been digging a few of the old, dead links out and updating them to point at the new site, but is there a more efficient means of going about this really rather gargantuan task? Expert guidance would be gratefully received. Tim riley talk 18:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could you provide an example of the old vs new?WelpThatWorked (talk) (talk) 18:36, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Stupid of me! I thought to do so but then didn't. A recent example of a single replacement within an article is here. A lot of articles have two or more different links to the old site that need replacing with the new, but it is the change from http://math.boisestate.edu/gas to https://www.gsarchive.net that needs doing each time. Tim riley talk 18:57, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Special:LinkSearch shows 683 links to http://math.boisestate.edu/gas, mostly in articles. It can be requested at Wikipedia:Bot requests. Each such edit would only take seconds with the semiautomated Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser so you could also try Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks, or consider using it yourself. The only thing being kept is the original page name, not the /gas/ web server structure? Many thanks, SITH (talk) 19:57, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Finding articles in need of editing

    Hello

I am new to Wikipedia. When I initially created an account, somewhere in the process, it suggested Wikipedia articles that were in need of editing, meaning there were significant flaws, copy errors, etc. I can no longer find this feature, where articles in need of editing are suggested to me. Can you tell me how to find/access articles that are in need of editing? Otherwise, it's been hard for me to find the more flawed articles by doing random browsing.

    Thanks

    Cannot log on through TOR

I have Wikipedia:IP block exemption. Today I attempted to log on through the Tor browser and got this error:

There seems to be a problem with your login session; this action has been canceled as a precaution against session hijacking. Please resubmit the form.

Trying again gives the same error

Previously I could log on through TOR, and I can still log on normally through my ISP.

    Has something changed?

Note: I have IP block exemption because I often am at a remote site in China where industrial espionage is a real problem (I do consulting work in the toy industry) and my employer requires that I access the Internet through Tails and Tor. There is a lot of waiting around at the remote site so I have plenty of time to edit Wikipedia. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:51, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    CSD/A9 Films

    Hi,

I was wondering whether film articles that afoul of the functional equivalent to A9 "none of the contributing recording artists has an article and that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant" can also be tagged under it?

I wanted to check that wasn't something I could do before I checked out interest at VPI - it's not (easily) visible there in the backlogs, but if it was already a rule, it wouldn't be.

    Cheers

    Nosebagbear (talk) 21:30, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nosebagbear. The CSD are generally strictly construed—if it's not within the plain ambit of the criterion, and it's not here (not a musical recording), it won't fly. As to discussing this, we usually hold such discussions at WT:CSD (rather than the village pump). I'm not saying you shouldn't raise it again there or at the pump, but this or similar has been discussed in the past. See as a sampling:
    Also, by way of analogy,:
    Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(Edit-conflict): @Fuhghettaboutit: Ah, I was looking in the wrong place - and thanks for saving me the search. Just had a batch of non-hoaxes to review and fruitlessly hunt for some refs. Rather than flog the perennial I guess I'll start the next couple of AfDs. Nosebagbear (talk) 22:38, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nosebagbear: Anytime. I personally would expand the CSD dramatically but pragmatism as to deletion is not given the preeminence it should have in my view to save time dealing with the raging firehose of crap we face out of newpages (that would then allow the diamond sorting we could be doing much better from its output).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:52, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fuhghettaboutit: - interestingly I'm actually an inclusionist, but it would be nice if the CSDs were in sync. Nosebagbear (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is a very bad idea to try to write about yourself in Wikipedia. Please wait until other people without your obvious conflict of interest decide you are notable enough to have an article about you in an encyclopedia. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:01, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Rich, how are you doing? Follow what Mike says above. I've reviewed your profile and you'll probably need more reliable sources covering your work before you qualify under wikipedia's notability guidelines (do go through the links). Best, Lourdes 04:29, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Create a full reference for a document that exists online?

Hello there, I was wondering if "{{cite web " is acceptable for a document that is viewable online, or if there is a specific set of parameters somewhere that goes with something like "{{cite document " -- if there is, I can't find it. I ask because I know there are special parameters for things like "{{cite book " or "{{cite journal ".

I'm asking specifically about this document from the National Park Service, which I intend to use as a source: https://focus.nps.gov/GetAsset?assetID=dd1a624a-3d45-45d2-a3d2-b5af5ff4d8c7

Thank you! Ewen Douglas (talk) 03:45, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cite web is acceptable; but in general, follow the citation style currently used in the article you're editing. That is, there is no hard and fast mandatory requirement to use citation templates. Lourdes 04:26, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ref number 19 should have the IBSN number and I cannot get it. Also - number 12 has the publisher and date done incorrectly I think. I cannot fix it on this device now. Thanks if you are able to do these corrections. 175.33.45.21 (talk) 04:38, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I added the ISBN to ref #19. But #12 seems OK, the date there shows the day the content was accessed not of publication. –Ammarpad (talk) 08:16, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Page review

Hello, I created a page recently and had an email yesterday saying that my page has been reviewed. There were no changes done to the page and I'm wondering what's the implicating of this, is it removing the noindex tag? Many thanks --MariamGreen (talk) 09:16, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@MariamGreen: I assume you're talking about the page Taniel. If that's the page, you were notified because the page was reviewed by another user and such actions are only recorded in a log. It's nothing to worry about, it effectively means the page can now be indexed by Google as well as other search engines. –Ammarpad (talk) 09:56, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ammarpad:Thank you for explaining. That's exciting to hear! --MariamGreen (talk) 10:44, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing content

I am trying to add new section in existing wikipedia page. I received following comment ---> Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. <--

How can I answer it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Altafhsayyed (talkcontribs) 12:46, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Altafhsayyed: It appears that the user who reviewed your request may have been confused because you put your proposed changes in a separate section of the talk page. When you make an edit request, simply put your proposed changes along with it, and not in a separate section. I would also note that your proposal is not sourced to any independent reliable sources; that will be needed. 331dot (talk) 12:50, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    problem in translating

the wikipedia translation guide says that in order to translate an english article you must first find the corresponding page on the other wikipedia(the destination language)and then proceed from there. my problem is that there is no wikipedia in my language and I am trying to begin translating english articles into my language. my language is considered a critically endangered language by UNESCO, so translating wikipedia articles will help a lot. any assistance is appriciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heisenberg höwrami (talkcontribs) 13:32, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Heisenberg höwrami:You are free to use Wikipedia article in any way you see fit based on the CC-BY-SA copyright. As long as you license the translated articles under that same copyright, you do not need to provide us with any notification and you do not need to get any further permission. However, unless you already have a good place on the web and a good infrastructure in place, you should consider setting up your language's version of Wikipedia. The Wikimedia foundation makes it really easy. IN that case, you would be the first administrator on the new Wikipedia and you would need to follow the policies and procedures that the administrators (i.e., you) set up for for adding translated articles to it. -Arch dude (talk) 16:05, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Procedure for merging two articles?

I have found two articles that appear to be about the same (mythical) persons, and I think they should be merged into a single article.

I have added notes about this to the talk pages of the article. There have been no replies or comments in the intervening 26 days. Is there any further procedure I should follow before merging the articles on my own? Bgoldnyxnet (talk) 15:47, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bgoldnyxnet The advice on merging is all at Wikipedia:Merging. If the case seems clear-cut then "Be bold" and perform the merger as per How to merge. If you prefer to make further efforts to open a merge discussion, the more formal procedure involves placing templates atop each article as explained in Proposing a merger: Bhunacat10 (talk), 16:39, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Decategorize test pages

Is there any method by which sandbox/test pages be removed from categorizing into a specific category?Adithyak1997 (talk) 15:52, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Adithyak1997. Draft and test pages should never be put in content categories (though there may be administrative categories which are appropriate). If a draft has a content category link, it should be removed; but if it is a category which will be appropriate when the draft becomes an article, it is a pity to lose it altogether, and WP:DRAFTNOCAT recommends either commenting it out in the source, or turning it into a link to the category. --ColinFine (talk) 17:06, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine:, Please check the category Pages with script errors. In that category, there are pages like Template:Country abbreviation/test 1 and User:Ham105/sandbox/p6 which are meant for testing purposes I guess. In such a case, shouldn't those pages be decategorized?Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:30, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is possible that individual pages should be removed from the category, but nearly all the pages in that category are going to be ourtside Article space, because articles rarely have script on them directly. --ColinFine (talk) 18:42, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Pages with script errors is added automatically by MediaWiki and not by category code in the pages. Special:TrackingCategories shows the category name is determined by MediaWiki:Scribunto-common-error-category and the category description is "There was an error when processing the modules included on the page." The only way to remove pages is to avoid the script error. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:50, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Shouldn't this category be a sub-category?

When reviewing categories for an article was was working on recently, I discovered that the category "Crime in Melbourne" appears to be a stand-alone, with its own sub-categories. However, there is a sub-category "Crime in Australia" under "Crime by country" (itself under "Crime"), with no link between to the Melbourne category.
There is also a "Crime by city" category under "Crime", which has sub-categories "Crime in France by City", etc. Does this need some linking and/or rationalisation? Also, there doesn't seem to be a suitable category for Youth Crime, as far as I can see. Any ideas? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 01:42, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Laterthanyouthink: I don't know where you are looking. Category:Crime in Melbourne displays three parent categories at the bottom. One of them is Category:Crime in Australia by city which has the parent categories Category:Crime in Australia and Category:Crime by city. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:48, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Oh, I do apologise. I realise now why I was confusing myself - I was looking at categories on Wikimedia on a couple of tabs and Wikipedia on others, and the structure is different between the two. Also going down from top to bottom with some and vice versa with others, and may have missed the categories listed at the bottom. (I haven't got to grips fully with Categories and trying to browse a few to see how they were structured.) Thanks for your help. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 03:09, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Very Old Speedy Deletion Requests

What, if anything, should an editor do on finding a draft that has been tagged for G7, speedy deletion by its originator for more than a month? Is speedy deletion facilitated by the assignment of categories to the tagged pages? If so, do very old taggings, or taggings in the previous calendar year, drop out of view? Robert McClenon (talk) 05:32, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be appropriate to remove the tag and then re-apply it to change the date on it? Robert McClenon (talk) 05:32, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Can you point to the page you're referring so as to see what actually happened? Pages tagged with {{Db-G7}} or its redirects are placed in the Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as well as Category:Candidates for speedy deletion by user. I doubt, if any can stay for full month without being actioned, but cannot rule it out. –Ammarpad (talk) 06:20, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    User:Ammarpad - It is Draft:Wes Yee. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:07, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. In looking at it, it appears that it is marked with the template but it isn't actually in the category. Hmmm. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:10, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that User:Adam9007 and I tangled with each other trying to fix it. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:13, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It was a malformed CSD request (they substituted the template). There was a discussion about this a while back but I can't remember where or when. Adam9007 (talk) 19:14, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It looks as if the editor in question substed {{db-meta}} with the right parameters. Interestingly enough, that template does not include Module:Unsubst to avoid such substitutions. Pinging the module's creator Anomie to please check whether that should be rectified. Regards SoWhy 19:34, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A search on insource:"as a page where the author of the only substantial content has requested deletion and/or blanked the page in good faith" in all namespaces finds 29 other occurrences. Those I examined were all tagged with VisualEditor in the edit where the request was made, e.g. [1]. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:36, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed this, and I think the template should be forced to not be substituted, since it always shouldn't. –Ammarpad (talk) 05:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Publicness of thanks

As I look through the history of a page, for each edit I am given the option of thanking the perp (even if the perp is myself). If I click on "thank", I'm asked "Publicly send thanks?", to which question I must choose between two options, "Thank" and "Cancel". I choose the former (and am reassured "thanked"). The specific thankee (?) will see my thanks, but in what sense are my thanks public? (Can I, for example, see a list of thanks recently expressed or received by an editor other than myself?) -- Hoary (talk) 08:47, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here is everyone you've thanked and everyone who's thanked you. The public information is who has thanked whom and when, not the exact edit for which thanks were given. ‑ Iridescent 08:55, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well well. What can I say, Iridescent, other than "thank you"? Oh, I know, I can publicly send thanks to you. Have done! -- Hoary (talk) 09:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I made a mistake when I linked this article to the original German page which is a disambiguation one. Can someone please correct the error? It should lead to Volker Bräutigam (Komponist) [de]. Thanks in advance; LouisAlain (talk) 09:51, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Re: CPRS - Burn victims or skin problems

I am Stefan Benedyka, a qualified multi skilled natural therapist. For CPRS or any skin/burn treatment I recommend a bath filled with aloe vera gel or cactus liquid. The patient is immersed into this bath and the bath is inside a hyperbaric chamber. The atmospheric pressures slowly increased according to the tolerance levels of the client. I hope this information can be disseminated to the medical profession internationally. Thank you. Hello, Stefan. I'm sorry, but Wikipedia is not (paradoxically) an organ for disseminating information. It is an encyclopaedia: it summarises information which has already been reliably published. --ColinFine (talk) 17:43, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    DIAMONDOMINO

I SUBMITTED MY NEW 20 PIECE PUZZLE SET CALLED DIAMONDOMINO & WAS TOLD IT WAS INAPPROPRIATE TO USE YOUR ENCYCLOPEDIA FOR THIS ITEM. HOWEVER : YOU HAVE AN EXTENSIVE ARTICLE CALLED PENTOMINOES (12 SQUARE SHAPED PIECES )WHICH IS THE FORE RUNNER OF MY DESIGN (20 DIAMOND SHAPED PIECES). NOW I SEE THAT IT IS IN YOUR ARCHIVE LISTING # 8.1. IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET MY DIAMONDOMINO ITEM PROPERLY LISTED? CHARLES H. Please don't write in block capitals; it is considered to be shouting on the internet. Pentominoes have been studied and written about for many years, so it is entirely appropriate to have an article about them. Wikipedia may not be used to publicise a new puzzle. You need to use other media for your marketing, but if your puzzle is eventually written about in WP:Reliable sources, then it might eventually get an article, but not until then. Sorry to disappoint you. Dbfirs 17:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You have been already told to not use Wikipedia as means of promotion. You promotional request has been previously hidden from a view at Special:Permalink/838902098#Promotional requests, and it will probably happen to this request, too. I also requested removal of your ad at User:Charles H. Checkley/sandbox/INVENTION OF DIAMONDINO BY CHARLES H. CHECKLEY. unreasonable edits and statements from other Wikipedia

I would like to report unreasonable edits made by user Mussav on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohanad_Ali page the user also noted the reasons were because "unrealible source based on defamed site and defamed author" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha6a (talkcontribs) 17:31, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Alpha6a and Mussav: You would both be well advised to stop edit warring and continue the discussion at the article's talk page. It is important to link to reliable sources in support of basic biographical information: Bhunacat10 (talk), 18:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you User:Bhunacat10 can you please look at the page and see if there is any reason for removing what I have added, when I have included three sources and one is even a national papaer Newssabah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha6a (talkcontribs) 18:25, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry User:Alpha6a, I don't read Arabic. I'm just advising you both to stop editing the article now, as edit warring can lead to your being blocked from editing: Bhunacat10 (talk), 18:33, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But how is this fair? And it is not in Arabic but in English also, he has removed the whole sentence and without any reason. Please have a look and see. User:Bhunacat10 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha6a (talkcontribs) 18:36, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Please User:Bhunacat10 can you help?

Can you please have a look at this page and see if user Mussav is being reasonable with his removal of my edits. I included one source from a national Iraqi newspaper newssabah which notes "Police Club beat Industry by a goal to nil with the goal from Hassan Ali, the same player himself (Mohanad Ali), who scored two years ago as Asia's top scorer for the Under 14s which was held in the Iranian city of Hamdan after scoring 6 goals in 5 matches!" This clearly indicates the change of name. http://newsabah.com/newspaper/61585 I do not understand why this was removed, this is a national newspaper. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha6a (talk • contribs) 18:42, 13 January 2019 (UTC) Template:Alpha6a

This is the help desk. Volunteers here are not interested in intervening in content disputes. Content disputes should be resolved on the article's talk page, and it that fails, then proceed as outlined in WP:DISPUTE, where you will find volunteers who are in fact interested in helping resolve disputes. -Arch dude (talk) 02:53, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. According to your edit summary, you appear to have been trying to add an entry to Gray (surname); but the only thing you managed to add to the article was an empty pair of <ref></ref> tags, which I have undone. Please note that disambiguation pages like that one are for navigating Wikipedia, so the only entries they should contain are links to existing Wikipedia articles. Only if somebody writes an article about that Alan Gray (assuming he is notable in Wikipedia's sense - if he isn't, then it is impossible to write an acceptable Wikipedia article about him) can a link be added to the disambiguation page. --ColinFine (talk) 20:25, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Question about user

The account User:Well educated male from Europe was apparently created about two hours ago, and its very first contributions were to write on my talk page commenting on my old redirects that were currently placed under RfD. It seems the account was created solely for this purpose. Is this a legitimate use of Wikipedia accounts? If not, what can be done about it? JIP | Talk 22:04, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

JIP, I've looked at the edits, and I don't think in themselves that they merit any action beyond what you have said you will do. Creating an WP:SPA I don't think is automatically a breach of our rules, although it's often associated with sock puppetry or spamming, which are. I don't think that you will get a CU check or WP:SPI on the basis of the postings so far, and I can't see any basis on which I would act against the account. It's irritating, but you may have to grin and bear it. Also, if I were you, I'd be bold and delete those dubious redirects myself instead of going to RfD, it's unlikely anyone will object. Sorry if this seems unsupportive Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:58, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This page is for asking for help with using Wikipedia only. I'm afraid you will have to seek assistance with your matter elsewhere. 331dot (talk) 22:39, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you think there is incorrect information in a Wikipedia article, then raise the issue on that article's talk page. If you are associated with the subject, do not edit the article directly. If you are not associated with the subject and if the information is not referenced to a reliable source, then edit the article and delete the incorrect assertion. If you believe an assertion is incorrect but it is referenced to a reliable source, do not delete it, but if it is contested in another reliable source, add that fact and the reference to the article."Fraud" is a term of law. Do not assert fraud: it implies a legal threat. An editor who makes a legal threat will be blocked from editing and should pursue the matter outside of Wikipedia. -Arch dude (talk) 02:46, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tool for quickly copying media from Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons to another wiki?

Jimbo just asked the following question on his talk page: "I wonder if anyone here knows of a tool for quickly copying media (images mainly) from Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons to another (non-WMF) wiki, in such a way that automatically follows best practices for attribution?"[2]

Does anyone know of such a tool? --Guy Macon (talk) 22:51, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Guy Macon and Jimbo Wales: I believe the Export tool (and corresponding Import) does the job. Bellezzasolo Discuss 01:39, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Having a look at export dumps, it quite easily preserves attribution, but doesn't seem to include the actual content of an image. Running some tests, it'll preserve the attribution of the description (if you select to keep all revisions), but the image needs uploading seperately. I need to delete my pages

Hello, 3 months ago i created 2 wiki pages about myself as a joke and put a photo on them as a joke. These 2 photos are now on google images and i want to take them down. Could you please take down my pages and the photos from google images.

Kind regards, Darko — Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkogolub (talkcontribs) 02:10, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Darkogolub: For us to take action, you will need to tell us which pages. However, When you put those photos up, you explicitly relased them under a CC-BY-SA license, which allows anybody to use them. "Anybody" includes Google. We have no control over Google's use of these photos: You will need to contact Google. We are all volunteers, so your "joke" will force unpaid volunteers to use up valuable time that would otherwise be spent improving Wikipedia. -Arch dude (talk) 02:35, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Darkogolub: Your contribution history only shows your edit to this page as well as to your now-deleted sandbox. If you created other pages about yourself, you did it while logged out or using another account, so we will be unable to help you unless you state what pages you are referring to. As noted, we can't do anything about Google using your photos. You might want to take this as a lesson learned, learning not to joke around, on a global encyclopedia edited by thousands of people and viewed by millions of people, by creating pages about yourself and posting pictures of yourself. This is not social media. In general you should treat the Internet as a public street corner and conduct yourself accordingly. 331dot (talk) 02:44, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Darkogolub: c:File:Darko Golub.jpg was deleted from Commons at your request there as an unused selfie.
