DYK for Princess María Teresa of Bourbon-Parma

On 14 May 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Princess María Teresa of Bourbon-Parma, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Princess María Teresa of Bourbon-Parma was nicknamed the "Red Princess" because of her socialist activism? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Princess María Teresa of Bourbon-Parma. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Princess María Teresa of Bourbon-Parma), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Diana López

Hi Kingsif, I saw you just patrolled Diana López, thanks! I'm wondering if you mind review the prose of the article? I'm trying to stay away from Google Translate but I'm not sure about the overall quality. If you don't have the time, don't worry, cheers --Oscar_. (talk) 21:03, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Oscar .: I've made an edit to the lead, the rest is alright but could be tidied and with more citations. Kingsif (talk) 21:06, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kingsif, reviewer MonkeyStolen234 has put this up for a second opinion, and I was hoping you could take a look. I was also hoping, while you were doing so, you could take a look at the article in general, and also the other five that they opened for review today (well, May 17 UTC) and passed in short order and with minimal comment, though some article edits were made on at least one reviewed article by the reviewer. Today was only their second day of reviewing, though they have been around for a while; their first review was on Friday (the only one that day), and I think they intended to pass it but never edited the article talk page. I'm afraid I don't have the energy to look into this in greater depth; it was the reviews of Davido and Wyangala that caught my eyes, since they were the oldest unreviwed nominations when they were taken for review. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:31, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BlueMoonset: I'm seeing Talk:Davido/GA1, Talk:Laura Harrier/GA1, Talk:The Masked Singer (American TV series)/GA1, Talk:1985 Tour de France/GA1, Talk:KQQZ/GA1, Talk:James Dunn (actor)/GA1, and Talk:Wyangala/GA3, want me to have a look? Kingsif (talk) 01:50, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:51, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@BlueMoonset: (Feel free to copy this to GAN talk if brought up for discussion) I have added a full review of Laura Harrier, because I felt it needed it. I also added some comments and requested a response at Davido. I read the 1985 Tour de France article, and besides a strange bullet point and a short lead that I left a message for a main editor about, it looks fine; copyvio clear and good sources. I didn't leave any comments at the GA here. I have left a comment at the review for KQQZ, which was quite concerning because the sparse review suggests that MonkeyStolen doesn't understand the need for criteria: they failed criteria 6 but still passed without comment. Here, I suggested that they read the criteria again. This article wasn't nominated by Raymie as I expected, but I have left a message for the nominator with a brief note of my concerns, asking if they would like another review. James Dunn (actor) is a vital article, and was nominated by Yoninah, so I'm surprised the review hasn't raised concern yet. I've read it and looked at the quality of sources, and it looks alright besides perhaps too many images and the possibility of improved phrasing, but it may warrant a closer check later. The Masked Singer (American TV series), though, should not have been passed. The talk page shows multiple current and recent discussions about fairly contentious points. There's also a non-standard hatnote. I haven't left comments here, because I think a full review would be best to do, but I also think it might be easier to wait for the season to end. The copyvio concern also hasn't been adequately addressed: it looks more like an old TV upfront document on the show where a long quotation has been taken from: so long it's nearly half the source. And, I'd also suggest a full review of Wyangala: it was sitting for a long time and is on GA3, it probably needed depth and got nothing. Also some minor copyvio shows, non-quotation direct copies as well as close paraphrasing. Kingsif (talk) 03:35, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If any of the reviews are problematic, and it sounds like a few of them were, perhaps a note would be in order suggesting that those reviews be reopened given the issues found, and a further review be done (Wyangala, certainly). The Masked Singer (American TV series) should be included, I think—it could be reopened with the understanding that while work could commence, it might be best to keep the review open at least until the current season has concluded and ratings and final reviews are available, which should be within the week anyway. I'm tempted to revert the passage of KQQZ because, as you note, it should not pass when a criterion is failed—reopening seems indicated here. (Of course, not every article that becomes a GA has images, so the lack is not necessary a disqualification.) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:51, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@BlueMoonset: I was the one who nominated KQQZ... to be honest, I was a bit surprised myself—as Raymie noted below, this is one of my first nominations; WAKR being the other. As explained on Talk:KQQZ/GA1, the lack of images is something I've been trying to figure out. Usually I err on the side of caution and will add images if they pass pre-1978 muster or are already available in the commons, so any/all guidance on how to add under fair-use is appreciated. (By contrast, I was fortunate to find pictures for WAKR and may be able to add more.) Given the rather unique subject matter at hand with KQQZ, if you or anyone else wants to look at and suggest revisions to make sure the POV is as neutral as possible, I would appreciate it so much! Already accepted Kingsif's offer to do so. Nathan Obral (talk) 16:53, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nathan Obral, I'm not the best person to ask about non-free images and valid rationales for them, unfortunately. I'll let Kingsif handle the further review checks. Kingsif, I just noticed that Davido has been passed—you did get a response there, but I doubt it was what you were looking for, and the nominator gave them guidance on how to close the nomination after they'd taken care of the ref issue. I think a more direct post to their talk page may be in order, perhaps listing the reviews that have issues and why they should be reopened. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:34, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kingsif, I see that you've been given permission to reopen the various reviews, which is a good thing all around. I think you should probably check them all, including the James Dunn article; Yoninah noted on the subsequent DYK nomination, after I pointed out that the DYK reviewer needed to be completely independent of the GA review and not make assumptions (and explained the situation), I was wondering why that GA reviewer didn't make me turn somersaults like most of my GA reviewers do. So perhaps some somersaults are in order here as well. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
While we're on the topic, Talk:Coat of arms of Sevastopol/GA1 just got passed. There's a few comments, but it's the reviewer's first one. Perhaps a motivational message asking for more comments next time? Kingsif (talk) 03:40, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead, thanks. Probably better to their talk page—both welcome and motivational. I'm assuming you think the article appears to meet the criteria... BlueMoonset (talk) 04:51, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It looks alright. Kingsif (talk) 19:15, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@BlueMoonset: Surprise, it's not me writing a radio article! (Nate is one of my very good friends and we have collaborated — between us we have a large article we'd like to go to FAC with and Nate also has some other stuff he's done.) I have been doing a few GA reviews lately and am honestly still really uncertain of the quality of my reviews because it's a different sort of beast than DYK. I also have articles that are GA quality but for which images are in very short supply. (Got lucky with CBUVT, currently pending review!) Raymie (tc) 05:18, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kingsif, this is an odd one: the reviewer made a post complaining of serious issues on April 5, but hasn't edited since; the nominator has never responded to the review at all despite getting the usual "review starting" message from the bot, though they are quite active. Can you take a look, see whether the review was at all on point, and perhaps give the nominator a ping to see whether they're willing to address any issues? It would be nice to get this one decided one way or another. Many thanks, and apologies for continuing to send things your way. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:20, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@BlueMoonset: That review looks like it doesn't quite understand GA reviews, like it's giving an 'oppose' vote with reasons, based on GA criteria. I've pinged the nominator offering to take it up. Kingsif (talk) 04:41, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping on the review page. It does looks like it's being withdrawn, but best to wait for confirmation, at which point the reviewer, who has reengaged, can fail it. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:23, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Gaby Chiappe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ITV (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 10:05, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kingsif, I was wondering whether you'd be willing to take this on. The reviewer disappeared before they did any reviewing, and hasn't edited at all this month, and the nominator is ready for a new reviewer. Please let me know if it looks unlikely; I know you already have all the MonkeyStolen234 reviews to reopen and do. Many thanks for all you do! BlueMoonset (talk) 18:21, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I have a bunch open already and I could get round to it, but by that point another reviewer could have done it. Kingsif (talk) 18:49, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you're through your backlog yet—it looks like you're mostly caught up—and as this one is still unclaimed, it would be great if you could take it on. If not, though, I'll ask around. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:56, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Earth-return telegraph

So the number one bullet of your reasons for failing this article was this edit? You claim that it suggests that "the article is still unclear even at the basic level of 'what is earth-return telegraphy'." Really? that was a copyedit of the short description, not even visible on the page. Your implication seems to be that the article is so unclear that the editor who wrote the short description, user:John M Wolfson, did not understand it. Well let's ask him shall we? It seems to me that you were just groping at straws for reasons to fail an article written by an editor who you have fallen out with. SpinningSpark 09:59, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Spinningspark: That was not the main reason, but something I noticed while writing that message. I had been expecting a response to the comment directly above, and had not received any even though you had been active. I resent the personal attack that I would grasp at straws to fail a GAN without good reason; if there appears to be no progress because of the editors involved I always put it up for a second opinion. But your opinion of me is clear, so please leave me alone. Kingsif (talk) 17:36, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • You led with that item in your close. It's not unreasonable to assume that it was of some importance to you in the decision to fail. I didn't reply to your last comment because it was mainly just rehashing yet again things I had already replied to. You asked "tell me where you think it's gone outside the criteria?" Pretty much the whole of the comment you were replying to was telling you that. I asked where is your position that "an encyclopedia doesn't describe" supported in guidelines? Your reply not only offered no support in the GA criteria but didn't refer to policy or guidelines at all. Your claim that "if there appears to be no progress because of the editors involved I always put it up for a second opinion" is disingenuous. My very last comment on the page was "[g]o to a second opinion if you feel it is really problematic." You didn't do that, so clearly, you don't always do that. As for "please leave me alone", you should expect to have to justify your reviews. SpinningSpark 18:20, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Spinningspark: Evidently you can read "please leave me alone", so are you just going to keep harassing me in spite of it? I closed the review, with a reason (a.k.a. 'justification'). Interpret it how you will and disagree if you like, but with no activity and no response for over 7 days, that's enough reason for closing anyway. Now, your comments almost from the outset seemed to be attacking my abilities to review based on a misunderstanding, but the tone never went away, and were mostly not in good faith, but I continued; given your present insistence to keep up that thread of attacking comments despite the review being closed, be aware that I want nothing more to do with you, so please leave me alone. I would have no problem getting administrator intervention if you find you can't stop yourself from continuing to harass me about it. Move on with your life, and may I suggest being polite next time. Hi, I removed your COI tag on Scroll (web service). So far I'm the only editor and I have no relation to the company, so there's no reason for a COI tag. I made the page after the most recent Firefox update, which notifies you of Scroll integration if you make an account. After I signed up for it I noticed there was no Wikipedia page for it so I went ahead and made it. It's just a piece of software I like. I left up your advert tag — while I personally think the tone of the page matches the tone in the articles I derived it from, that judgment is best left to consensus opinion. Jaydavidmartin (talk) 00:35, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, @Jaydavidmartin:. The article has a fairly straightforward tone, but it's short with details that read relatively promotional (this plus only one editor can suggest COI, thanks for clarifying otherwise) for an obscure product. (If you want my advice, though I'm sure you're good, it could cut down on mentions of its subscription and 'benefits', with more about development and uses/responses, to sound less promotional). But it's a nice little article :) Kingsif (talk) 04:19, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

regarding a recent cut on entry "HK Basic Law Article 23"

Hello. Recently a cut has been made on entry "HK Basic Law Article 23" paragragh “Since then, the bill of implementing the article has not been reintroduced”. As we may be aware of, some level of change regarding the political status of HK has occurred. However, Wikipedia is a site of objectivity and accuracy. Therefore my stance remains that the influence that has in the past been inflicted upon the implementation of HK Basic Law Article 23 be fully told in said entry. The precise narrative may shift according to its current political status--and rightfully so--but the details of past events I hope are told nonetheless. As experienced as a Wikipedia user such as yourself, I would count on you to designate a narrative fit for the status quo with objectivity. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Complete&Unabridged (talk) 14:01, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Complete&Unabridged[reply]

@Complete&Unabridged: I think you're saying that changing the line about the bill not being reintroduced was wrong? I'd disagree, as while an unspecified bill has not been, the matter is clearly being debated again, so it would be false by omission to have left it as it was. I can't really understand whatever argument you're trying to make about objectivity and accuracy, but it's inappropriate to assume I was not being objective and accurate. Kingsif (talk) 14:09, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Therefore I hope that the narrative could be changed to “Since 2003 up till 2020, the bill of implementing the article has not been reintroduced” to reflect the accurate existential influences of these demonstrations/protests, because a consecutive 17 years(2003~2020) of political restraint from both the mainland and HK would be considered a fairly large fraction of the life span of a random individual as well as a political body considering they're ultimately made of real people, and would be considered historically significant in many respects. Complete&Unabridged (talk) 14:30, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Given your suggested revision is basically meaningless in English, it won't be changed to that. You can add a note yourself at the end about a 17 year gap, though it doesn't seem drastically significant, and has been at least discussed many times in that period. A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedians have taken the NPP pledge requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Hi,

I'd request that the Cookie Dough Bites (candy) page not be speedily deleted because I am endeavoring to build it out to be a fully encyclopedic entry. I'm just still finding my way around the various ins-and-outs of Wikipedia guidelines.

I'm a confectionery historian, and for the post-war 20th century, I might be a preeminent authority of candy brand history. I have consulted with the Smithsonian, Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, have been featured in the New York Times and even hosted my own food history television show on Cooking Channel. I've been featured on Food Network a few times, when the history of candy or cereal comes up. So, I hope that lends me some credibility and some leeway when I state that my interest is in making sure the history of these brands is documented and documented well and accurately. My creation of this page is not meant to be a promotion, but rather an accurate and robust recording of its importance as a late 20th century confectionery brand.

I've been reading and re-reading the guidelines and have a lot of additional information to add and rewrites to do on the existing information I've posted thus far. I want to work within the Wiki guidelines to create a solid Wiki entry for this brand. Hopefully I can do so as I am working to do it the right way.

@MarvelJason: Thanks for the message, Jason; I'd be happy to help you work on it if you like. Articles on companies are more common than brands, but if there's a lot to say about it, you could build an article. You could look at the articles in Category:Food product brands, and move the draft to WP:Articles for creation if you're going to be working on it. Short articles on things like brands (and other 'products') can easily seem promotional if there's not much content about the importance as a late 20th century confectionery brand, as you put it, a.k.a. what makes it notable for an encyclopedia entry. You may want to check out WP:PRODUCT, notability guidelines specific to products. Kingsif (talk) 21:03, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @KingSif

Thank you for that offer. I'd appreciate any help you could provide in getting this to be a proper Wikipedia entry. I don't see anyway for me to retrieve what I wrote already and was deleted, so I'm going to take all of the guidance I've received thus far and endeavor to draft a new article for Cookie Dough Bites and I'll ping you here when I do, to have you take a look at what I've done. I appreciate the offer of assistance and look forward to your help. -Jason MarvelJason (talk) 21:47, 10 June 2020 (UTC)MarvelJasonMarvelJason (talk) 21:47, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @KingSif

I've spent the last several days working up a draft of the Wikipedia entry for Cookie_Dough_Bites_(candy) after doing a lot more research. As I was unable to get any of my original draft back, I set about to create the new draft entirely within Word, and hoping to convert it to whatever format Wikipedia needs. I've been having issues with that now, as none of the tutorials I've followed online seem to work.

Can you take a look at what I've got, this is the file:
