Corsica and Brittany

Can you please refrain from adding Brittany and Corsica in the football squad template for player nationality as you did here and here. I have reverted you because Corsican and Breton are ethnic groups and not nationalities. — JSRant Away 05:25, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Xabi Alonso's Nationality

Hi. I changed Alonso's little nationality flag back to Spain because according to FIFA, the highest football authority, lists him as Spanish. Official nationalities are determined by what FIFA-sanctioned national team one plays for. I'm sure Basque is a nationality, but it's not really recognized by FIFA. (And I guess if you've never played for a full national team, you go by your affiliation at the youth level. If your not a youth team member, then you probably go by the country you're from politically.) If you look at the roster for Athletic Bilbao, all the players are listed as Spanish, even though they're also technically Basque. Except for, interestingly, Fernando Amorebieta, who now plays for the Venezuelan national team. He was born in Venezuela, and part of his family comes from there. He's still home-grown in Basque Country, though, so Athletic will still keep him.

You could argue that Alonso be considered Basque because of his appearances for the Basque team, but the team isn't officially sanctioned by FIFA or UEFA. It's allowed to play in friendly matches, but it can take part in official competitions like the World Cup or the Euros. The Catalan national team is in the same boat; that's why Xavi & Co. over at FC Barcelona (as well as Bojan Krkic and Joan Capdevila) have Spanish flags next to their names instead of Catalan ones. So Xabi may be Basque, but in FIFA's eyes, he's a World-Cup-winning Spaniard.

Hope that clears everything up.

Cheers, Otaku-jin (talk) 05:27, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it back too and if you insist on going against WP:MOSFLAG and push a Basque separatist agenda you will find your account blocked. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:44, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ed Sheehy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Cho In-Chol has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable football player. Only one link provided to support notability, but it finally doesn't.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Adding reference on wiki articles

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello Oakley77! Please do not forget to add references for the content you add to Wikipedia. Adding a well formatted references is very easy to do.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "templates",
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill as many details as you can,

This will add a well formatted reference that would be helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) after some time. thanks and regards -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 12:14, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Düri

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Düri requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Tibet

Ciao, I see you've recently created a fair few pages on settlements in Tibet; apparently these may not always include the necessary decent sources, you know how it is, etcetera etcetera; I guess to help understand these administrative units it would be good for them to be nicely located in the administrative tree, ie Tibet - Prefecture - County - Township - Village; Here's a good source (National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China): Tibet (西藏) is second in from the left on the bottom row; drill down, you get the prefectures, then the counties, then the townships, then the villages; Google Translate might be a starting point with these; and the ultimate goal would be to have the right interwiki links too; Nihil autem minus perfecto duci quam festinationem temeritatemque convenire arbitrabatur. Crebro itaque illa iactabat: σπεῦδε βραδέως; ἀσφαλὴς γάρ ἐστ᾽ ἀμείνων ἢ θρασὺς στρατηλάτης; et: "sat celeriter fieri quidquid fiat satis bene as they say... Might help avoid this, this, and a metaphorical one of these! Thanks, Maculosae tegmine lyncis (talk) 15:40, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, when titling articles, keep this in mind: if a placename has "xiang" at the very end of its name, it is likely a township. The only way to make sure is to check that 乡 is in the Chinese name. Ex: If "F" is the name of a township, please don't title the article "Fxiang", but rather "F Township". I've already fixed this issue at Chundui Township and Kazi Township, Lhünzhub County. Thanks much GotR Talk 06:18, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Chobani

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Chobani, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the page that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. PKT(alk) 17:16, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would make a big difference to wikipedia if you could add a fact or two and sourced about it.. I understand the desire to simply blue link articles but so much info is becoming available in google books now... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:03, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nominations

Issues are still being brought to the WT:GAN page regarding your nominations. I would suggest slowing down a bit with that and only nominating one or two at a time. It would also be a good idea to announce your intention on the articles talk page if you are not a major contributor and to make sure there are no outstanding cleanup tags before nominating. There is a very real chance that if you do not do this you will be banned from the Good article process completely. AIRcorn (talk) 03:03, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please also remember Oakley77 that before nominating an article, it's recommended to check it against the criteria for Good Articles, and as we've seen, you seem not to be in complete knowlegde of what the criteria is, which i again strongly recommend you to study before nominating articles we'd have to quickfail. Regards. --Hahc21 [TALK][CONTRIBS] 03:23, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that's enough disruption from you on the GA project. I have made a further proposal at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations#Proposal to bar Oakley77 from nominating GA articles to stop you nominating anything for GA and to stop you commenting on any reviews since you are demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of the GA criteria and you're simply causing more work for others. Please comment there, not here or on my talk page. BencherliteTalk 06:48, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And please don't move on to FAC - they have a rule that only significant contributors to an article may nominate it, and your recent nomination (Winnipeg) does not meet that rule. Nikkimaria (talk) 14:15, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you try to nominate this article for GA? I've worked on this article on and off for a while, and you did a drive by nomination. It has consecutive unsourced paragraphs and some other problems. You, as far as I can tell, have never edited the page. I deleted the GA nom template. The article is far from ready. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:25, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are barred from nominating articles for GA status, remember? Any further GA nominations by you before the bar is lifted will see you blocked for disruptive editing, I promise you. BencherliteTalk 20:57, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is your one warning. The next time you violate your ban, you will be blocked for 24 hours. --Rschen7754 21:05, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Just to have clarity, I can still edit articles to get them to GA form right. As in helping the nominator make constructive edits while article is under review?" You can edit articles but must not nominate them for GA, or enter into any discussion on a GA review page if somebody else nominates them. And don't try getting someone to nominate articles as your proxy either. I strongly suggest that you avoid any thoughts of achieving GA status for any article, whether it's one that you've helped to write or not, and find other things to do. Warning concerning creation of substandard article

You created recently a large number of articles which are way below the Wikipedia standards. Let me as an example point out to the article Shupanga, which you created on May 23. What you created was an unsourced one-line stub which unsurprisingly made it to WP:AfD (this is how I found it). First of all, articles should be sourced, otherwise the info can not be verified. Moreover, in this particular case, I found, spending about half an hour of my time so far, that the information you introduced to the article was as a matter of fact wrong: the place is currently called Chupanga, and is located in Mozambique rather than in Zambia (to my knowledge, there is no place in Zambia called Shupanga or Chupanga). In view of this, I strongly suggest that you immediately stop creating such articles and concentrate on improving those you have already created, as I suspect they are of similar quality. GAN reviews

Is there any particular reason why you are jumping in to fix GAN review issues when that's really the nominator's job? [1] --Rschen7754 04:09, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, it appears that you have already been banned from doing this, and have been warned about this too. Thus, I'm going to block you for 48 hours. If you do this again, the length of the block will continue to increase. --Rschen7754 04:11, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GAN

I feel a little bad about what happened recently. I'm a bit emotional. If you want to help on GAN, there's a way you can do it. You can address the issues written by the reviewer on the Review page but avoid editing the review page itself. You don't need to write on that page that you were the one who solved the issues; another editor will get into it, and give you a barnstar for your efforts as happened above with Starstriker. As i always say: If you do something good, somebody, somewhere, will know about it. Regards! —Hahc21 05:21, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, to clarify, what I blocked for is your hijacking of the nomination process and taking it over from the nominator. You should give the nominator a chance to respond to what the reviewer has to say. Sometimes the nominator will disagree with what the reviewer has to say and will not want to make the changes; if you make them, then that doesn't give the nominator that option. --Rschen7754 05:38, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yes. Oakley might consider that either. —Hahc21 13:34, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Given what I have written above (and got no reaction), we might consider expanding restrictions instead.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:37, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Do you know when his block will expire?Mir Almaat Ali Almaat From Trivandrum, Kerala, India(UTC+5:30) 16:51, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So it is alright to make the changes, just not to sign the changes? Oakley77 (talk) 18:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. Your ban says you cannot comment on reviews, and to avoid quibbling over prepositions you should simply stay away from GA reviews altogether: I take "comment on reviews" to mean "make comments in GA reviews on the article or on the comments by other editors or on the comments on comments..." et cetera. As long as you seem to be unclear about what you shouldn't be doing, you probably shouldn't be doing anything that has anything to do with the GA process. If you violate this ban again, chances are your block will be a lot longer: I'm not sure you realize how many feathers you've ruffled with your rash actions, and that includes me. I thought you had done some actual work on The Canterbury Tales but you hadn't. You actually didn't do a damn thing on that article, except, after I started my review, this--and that's not work (really, it's useless). And then you say you don't know how to cite! That's unbelievable. You simply do not have the competence to be involved in the GA process: I spent more time on my review than you did on the article, and that irritates me immensely. In short: stay away from GA. Drmies (talk) 20:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to work on an article going to good...

If you desperately want to work on an article going to good, if Cambodia women's national football team survives the AfD, I will almost certainly take it there. It needs the following work (without removing any information):

  1. The background and development section needs to be organised better. At the moment, it is a bit of an unorganised mish-mash of information.
  2. The team information section needs to be made more fluid, with improved flow. It reads very point. point. point. point.
  1. The under-13, under-14, under-16 teams need to have flow improved. Again, reads point. point. point. point.
  1. Citations may need more consistent formatting. Dating should be consistent. (Ideally British format.) Location, language should be put into things. The .com type links should be replaced with the actual publisher.
  2. Repeated wiki links to articles need to be removed.

Done what I think is necessary. Oakley77 (talk) 17:03, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Excessive red links need to be removed so there are probably no more than five on the article. In some cases, this would be an editorial decision to remove the interwiki link and in other cases, finding what it should actually be linking to.

This would be a great big help before a nomination for GA as I know these are weakness. --LauraHale (talk) 08:52, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Laura, I saw you nominated the article, but there is (still) a large amount of work on prose and punctuation to be done--there may be so many that a quick fail would be in order. Perhaps the guild of copy editors can help out here. Drmies (talk) 13:58, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but why comment on my talk page? Why not comment on her page? Oakley77 (talk) 23:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

North Korea national football team

North Korea national football team is not what I would call ready. The player list is way too long. I'd only have the current squad. The current squad also needs some sources. The text is very, very limited and isn't fully supported by sources. The World Cup part of their history isn't organised logically. I would actually ding the assessment down to a C, because the article is NOT fully sources and it feels really incomplete. The article only has 15 sources. For a team that has as many world cup appearances as they do, I would be expecting AT LEAST 50 sources. I'd also be expecting the See also section to be gone as the article should be so complete, these are not necessary. --LauraHale (talk) 21:58, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

having a quick look on my iPhone, none of the B class men articles are at solace where I would be comfortable nominating them without extensive work. Brazil requires a lot of work, much editorial plus other work. Australia has a tag that says problems since 2010. India needs a fair amount of sourcing. India and Australia could both be assessed C easily. If a men's team was easily reachable, some nationalistic fan of the country would have done it already. --LauraHale (talk) 23:05, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Potential GA candidates

Rschen7754 thinks if you work with me, this might be one way to eventually get your GA participation restrictions lifted. I'm willing to nominally serve as a mentor to help you get back by making sure you understand what is GA ready... but I edit primarily in Australian sport, women's sport and Paralympic sport. That said, I have about 9 articles that are Good Articles. I would like to take the remaining six articles to GA to have a good topic. These articles are:

These articles are pretty close to being ready to nominate as the articles are mostly complete. I've just been distracted by getting other Australian Olympians to DYK and GA nominations for women's football teams. The following needs to be done:

Jane Moran
  • Water Polo Australia information needs to be included: Supporting facts need to be added to the article and cited to Water Polo Australia. Water Polo Australia source needs to be used to support existing facts. WPA source.
    • Added and sourced some useful nuggets of information. Oakley77 (talk) 16:27, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Australian Olympic Committee information needs to be included: Supporting facts need to be added to the article and cited to Australian Olympic Committee. Australian Olympic Committee source needs to be used to support existing facts. AOC Source
  • Where was Moran playing club water polo in 2009 and 2010? Information needs to be included in the article.
  • Lead needs to be written in a better summary style.
  • Red links need to be checked for each article: Find correct links if they exist or selectively remove some of them if they appear redundant.
  • Flow of the article needs to be checked. I write point. point. point. point. This can be choppy.
    • After reading the article, the flow seems to suffice. Oakley77 (talk) 16:56, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking at http://www.australianwaterpolo.com.au/high-performance/senior-women-profiles/profiles/moran-jane/ , and the club water polo stuff is very much in this article. There is no indication she took time off:
1st, NWPL Championship with Brisbane Barracudas 2009, 2010, 2011

Pretty much EVERYTHING on Australian Water Polo's page needs to be included in the article. The article doesn't say what position she plays in it. That is like writing a football article without mentioning what position a person plays (forward, fullback, goalie). Australian Water Polo's page needs to be used a lot more in the article to fill in the details as a GA needs to be fully sourced and complete information wise. --LauraHale (talk) 21:43, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would estimate each of these articles would require an hour to three hours worth of work each to address those points. If you can get these things done, I will nominate these articles for GA, and I will allow you to fix changes any reviewer requests, then comment on the GA itself to say this was done, so you do not violate the conditions of your community band. You can then claim that you did substantial work on these articles (and helped take a topic to Good Topic.). These articles are important to me because I suspect the Australian media will plagiarise them if the team does what is expected and medals at the Games. At the same time, I know the girls on the team have seen these articles and are very happy with them having been created/massively improved. We got permission for the head shots. --LauraHale (talk) 02:24, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In Response...

In response to your questions...

1. The code is in the "templates" section. 2. I really need help tagging the insane amount of articles that fall into this category, and I'm also having trouble with Category:WikiProject Animals in media. I tagged the template, so in theory everything should be there, but it isn't.

If you would rather discussion be kept to one page, just say which one, yours or mine. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 16:30, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We can keep it on mine. Also is the tagging template there, because I can do that, just need the tat template mate. Oakley77 (talk) 16:33, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The template is here, and the category I'm talking about is below. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 16:35, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I accidentally added your talk page to the project. Just paste this in: [[Category:WikiProject Animals in media]]. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 16:39, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I assessed roughly 35 articles. Where is the assessment box? Oakley77 (talk) 18:04, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea how to make one. Do you? Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 18:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, no! But you should ask an expert, and I will try to learn, because it is virtually necessary. Oakley77 (talk) 18:07, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe there's a page... I'll get on it, but I think I have to get off the computer soon. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 18:11, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries mate! Oakley77 (talk) 18:12, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found a page that tells you how to do it. It says the bot does its run every few days, and all we have to do is set up for it. I can do that now. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 18:13, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Need any help? Can you do it solo? Oakley77 (talk) 18:18, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I set it all up, but I'm having a problem with the importance. It doesn't recognize it as "High-importance Animals in media articles", but rather with a lowercase "a" in "animals". Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 18:25, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, may be a glitch. Is the box on the project somewhere? Oakley77 (talk) 18:29, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I could check, but I have to go. You should look; I'm probably not going to be on again until tomorrow. Brambleberry of RiverClan ChatWatch 18:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Oakley77 (talk) 18:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Declined: Gaylord Discovery Center

That is the first Article I have contributed. I tried to pay attention to Notability and Neutrality. It has now been declined for both. I used existing Articles as examples of what to include. My interpretation is that the Article Gaylord Discovery Center is on par with the examples of Impression 5 Science Center, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, and Flint Children's Museum. Do you have recommendations on what to change to make the proposed article more fit for acceptance?

GAN stuff

Hi. I've got some stress things going on, and the bits I saw on Jane Moran didn't particularly impress me. I haven't seen any other edits to water polo articles. I haven't seen a demonstration that you understand sourcing or organisation. I've got some other things going on with Wikipedia and my willingness was pretty narrowly confined to and based on the water polo work with the idea of you can work on them with VERY CLEAR guidelines of what needs work. This wasn't really ever done that I could see. If you want to work on other articles with the idea of being able to work on them for GAN, you'll need to find some one else to help you with that. The outside work I've seen hasn't indicated any growing awareness of criteria that I'd be willing to give easy passes. The introduction of copyvios into Wikipedia through AFC that were obvious also makes me hesitant to work with you outside areas where I can pretty much know if your own submissions are copyvios or not. Kristóf Nyíri article advice

Hi Oakley77,

I was hoping you could help me out with an article you reviewed. This is my first attempt at a wiki publication, and I might need some help and direction. You wrote that my article on Kristóf Nyíri "Just need better format and structure," I tried to copy other academic wikipedia profile pages... what other format would you suggest?

Also, I received comments from others: that Kristóf Nyíri might not be notable (or adequately cited as such). I included other authors/ academics that reference him and his work - one of which has her own wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cressida_Heyes). I'm not sure what else I can add... do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks, Lora — Preceding unsigned comment added by LAinNJ (talkcontribs) 15:06, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Oakley77,

I was just wondering what your reason was for accepting (in AfC) the article Arctic Anthropology. Its references clearly don't constitute significant, independent coverage, as is required by the AfC reviewer guidelines.

Hello Oakley77. Given your repeated problems discussed at GAN and mentioned by me earlier on your talk page about sourcing at WP:AfC with issues of plagiarism checking, I'm really concerned that you're still working in the area and that others are continuing to point out these problems. Can you please demonstrate, through your own editing, knowledge of copyright and sourcing policies alongside notability policies on Wikipedia before continuing with WP:AfC? --LauraHale (talk) 23:35, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
