Father Peter Nguyễn Văn Hùng (chữ Hán: 阮; born November 21, 1958) is a Vietnamese Australian Roman Catholic priest and human rights activist in Taiwan. He was recognised by the United States Department of State as a "hero acting to end modern day slavery".

Early life
Nguyen Van Hung grew up in a lower middle class family outside of Bình Tuy Province in South Vietnam, with two brothers and five sisters; his father was a fisherman, but died after a long battle with illness, forcing his mother, a devout Catholic with roots in the country's north, to become the family's main breadwinner. Nguyen Van Hung himself absorbed his mother's faith and devotion. He was an admirer of Saint Francis of Assisi, and reportedly stole food from his own family to feed to the poor.

He left Vietnam in 1979 on an overcrowded boat; rescued by a Norwegian ship after just 36 hours and taken to Japan, he joined the Missionary Society of St. Columban upon his arrival.

He lived in Japan for three years, studying and taking a variety of jobs to support himself, including as a highway repairman, steel factory worker, and gravedigger. He first came to Taiwan in 1988 as a missionary, after which he went to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to study at a seminary. He was ordained in 1991 and returned to Taiwan the following year (in 1992).

Work in Taiwan
Nguyen Van Hung established the Vietnamese Migrant Workers and Brides Office in Taoyuan County (now Taoyuan City) in 2004 to offer assistance to Vietnamese immigrants in Taiwan. Vietnamese American radio station Little Saigon Radio and others helped him to rent the second floor of a grammar school; two seventy square foot rooms offer sleeping space, while two others are used for office space. They provide Mandarin classes, room and board, and legal assistance.

Nguyen Van Hung's exposure of abuses against foreign laborers and brides led the United States Department of State to list Taiwan as a "Tier 2" region alongside countries such as Cambodia due to their lack of effort in combating human trafficking, which proved a major international embarrassment for the island's government. His work has also made him the target of intimidation in Taiwan.

A cookie for you!

Great start on Boyden-Hull High School! The article looks great. Keep improving on it. Try to add more information such as academics and history. Continue citing sources as you go. Looking good! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 03:36, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WHAA a trout for me. I was reviewing really old "new" articles. I guess I'm a bit late to the party. I thought you had just created the article from scratch like that. The article does look nice though. ;) Cheers, Michaelzeng7 (talk) 03:41, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I felt that I finally had enough experience with Wikipedia to start an article about my high school. Happy to see someone thinks my first attempt is halfway decent.Vycl1994 (talk) 05:32, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alycia Debnam-Carey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Notable deaths vs dead notable people.

Regarding your Alice Gross edit, this discussed things like that. No clear consensus either way, but points to ponder, if you'd like. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:46, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

Duly noted. Thanks for the heads up. Vycl1994 (talk) 05:49, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

October 2014

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Akram Khodabandeh a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page to Akram Khodabandeh. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Otherwise, thanks for all your recent work to give those articles references! Steel1943 (talk) 23:14, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Steel1943: Well, you've gone fishing for trout(s) in the river! Nice catch. I happened across Fooladfc2013's mass creation of articles and was attempting to help with it. I simply forgot to move Akram Khodabandeh properly, though I did not bungle Fatemeh Rouhani (taekwondo). At least, I don't think I did.... Thanks for the note. Fill in the reference bare links

Hi Vycl1994,

I'm Chongkian who normally writes articles related to Taiwan. I can see from your last edit to the article Yang Sui-sheng, may I know which app/link you use to fill in those bare references? Last time I use the Reflinks, but it seems like it is now no longer working, so I'm not sure on which app/link is the good one to fill in those links? Thanks. Chongkian (talk) 03:41, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: I use RefToolbar, which I think leaves a clearer reference with more information. To enable it, go to the Gadgets tab on your Preferences and check the box marked RefToolbar. Another choice is ProveIt, which is also accessed from Preferences→Gadgets. You might also want to submit a bug report on Reflinks, by using Bugzilla. Hope this helps. Hi Vycl1994,

I'm the son in law of Philip Hodge and I noticed you characterized him as a 'materials scientists'. He never mentioned materials science to his family, he was a proffessor in Mechanics and I wonder why you chose material science? thanks!

Bill Kelly (talk) 18:31, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Kelly7552: Racklever is the editor who placed Philip G. Hodge into the Category: American material scientists. Based off of this edit, and the first sentence stating that he "specialized in elasticity and plasticity of materials," I revised the section to comply with WP:First sentence and WP:CREDENTIALS. CEC website for ROC local election 2014 results

Hi Vycl1994, regarding the dead link at Jason Hu article (as what i've read on your edit comment on 10 dec 2014), i think the CEC has reorganized its website (probably to make the election result being archived), thus the link has changed. but (let's say) for this taichung mayoral election result, i've found it at this link: http://vote2014.nat.gov.tw/en/TC/n400000000000000.html Chongkian (talk) 16:43, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: You can re-add the CEC sources if desired, but since I found so many dead ones then, including on other politicians of the 2014 election, I just thought the entire website was malfunctioning and replaced CEC links with the Taipei Times or Central News Agency. Vycl1994 (talk) 16:49, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! :D

Thanks for fixing the edits I made to Yao Beina's article. I couldn't figure out how to make the links work better. Hope everything else was correct as well. Again, thank you! :D

Hajiru (talk) 14:05, 18 January 2015 (UTC) Hajiru[reply]

@Hajiru: You are most welcome. What I did was called piping. If you click on the link, you will find more information on the topic. I also cleaned up the pinyin formatting that was on the page to fit into the zh template, which has a "p=" parameter designed for pinyin. I did not make use of it for the other Chinese text on the page because the template always links Chinese and pinyin. Linking to the same topics many times in a section is generally considered excessive. Vycl1994 (talk) 16:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vycl1994: Cool. :D I will remember to do that for next time. Thanks again! ^__^

Removing authority control?

Hi. Why have you removed the authority control template from André Trocmé and Magda Trocmé? I see no related discussion at Template talk:Authority control. As far as I know authority control and persondata should be together and on the redirects for redirects to shared biographies. --Mirokado (talk) 06:36, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mirokado: What you suggest is what I have done, but I have hidden the templates from view as a further compromise, using the wiki markup for commenting things out. Maybe a better summary of my edits should be "added hidden authority control". There is not way to add them to singular corresponding Wikidata pages, as far as I am aware. See here and here for the relevant edits. I added templates both times with the "comment out" wiki markup. Vycl1994 (talk) 14:02, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your prompt response. I've now had a little more time to refresh my memory and to look around. Looking at Wikipedia:Authority control#Using the template, it is correct to add authority control to the redirects in cases like this and there is no need to comment it out. We should add to the article most directly corresponding to the wikidata entry (creating a suitable redirect if necessary). The corresponding wikidata entries are wikidata:Q523109 and wikidata:Q15056045, which use the accented names, for which we also have redirects which already have redirect to joint biography, persondata and relevant categories, but not authority control. Authority control goes immediately before Persondata, which itself must be before DEFAULTSORT. It will be easier if I run round in little circles building on your recent edits and post again here when I think I have finished, you will of course be welcome to edit further if you think it is necessary. --Mirokado (talk) 15:04, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Finished the wikipedia article updates now: André Trocmé, Andre Trocmé, Andre Trocme, Magda Trocmé, Magda Trocme. --Mirokado (talk) 15:36, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Authority Control Assistance

Hi there Vycl1994, could you assist me with adding an authority control template to an article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sutralife (talkcontribs) 18:17, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

William G. Young

Hello; I just undid your modifications to the page you edited. I don't understand why you reverted my changes. Judge Young is ALIVE (WP:BLP) and having the article accurately reflect that he is still a sitting judge (not in the past tense) is proper.--Brad Patrick (talk) 16:01, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BradPatrick: The page history of William G. Young shows that you were the only user so far to edit the page in May 2015. My last edit to the page was in January of the same year, to add an authority control template. You first switched the tense on 15 May, (here) reverted yourself on 21 May, (here) and corrected the error around five minutes later, blaming me for it, possibily because you were reading the edit summary (Reverted to last revision by Vycl1994). However, this appears to be a one man show, and I cannot claim responsibility. Vycl1994 (talk) 18:34, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Thomas P. McKenna

The article Thomas P. McKenna has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable author. Single book. The awards honors an author's first work and can therefore not be regarded as major.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LoC DoB's

Hi Vycl1994,

Can you give me a tutorial on how to find author's birthdates from the LoC as you did for David Knechtges? Thanks.  White Whirlwind  咨  05:02, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@White whirlwind: Let's take Knechtges as an example. After clicking on the LCCN link in the authority control template, it should take you to this page. The second line under the "Sources" heading reads "found: Wen xuan, or, Selections ... c1982- : CIP data sheet (David R. Knechtges, b. 10/23/42)." As the Library of Congress is an American institution, most dates are in MM/DD/YY format.
Fred Craddock's DOB, seen here, is simply marked "(b. 4/30/28)" at the third item under that same "Sources" heading. George Low Jr., Andrew Oung, Elizabeth A. Fenn, and Inga Saffron's full DOB are also listed at their respective LCCN pages, but sometimes LCCN only gives the birth year, (see Mary McNamara, Peter Theo Curtis) so just include that, unless you can find a reliable source for the full version. If LCCN lists IMDB birthdates, as they did at Paul Ryan (actor), the DOB may be entirely wrong, which is why I left a reference and comment in the infobox of that article. As can be seen at George Low and William Linn Westermann, LCCN occasionally searches Wikipedia for information on people also.
I hope this was helpful. Happy editing! Vycl1994 (talk) 14:46, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vycl1994: Fantastic stuff, thanks a million!  White Whirlwind  咨  20:18, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Washington Post gives her date of birth as 3 June 1921. Just in case you investigate. Yours, Quis separabit? 20:08, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Rms125a@hotmail.com: The 6 June 1921 date has been reported by the New York Times while the Post gives 3 June 1921. Should we list them both with (disputed) or some such note elsewhere in the article? If I recall correctly, you and I (mostly you) did the same for Haron Amin. Vycl1994 (talk) 20:49, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I really am not overwhelmingly distraught. I just wanted you to know that a reliable source had cited the 3 June date. I trust your judgment. Yours, Quis separabit? 20:53, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I did, however, take a look at the French language article on Chiwy -- which has only one source for the entire article. The source (see [2]) doesn't even give a date of birth. I don't speak French but I know how to look for a month and date. You can try. So it seems the English-language article has not only more sources but probably more reliable ones. Yours, Quis separabit? 14:57, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Rms125a@hotmail.com: I cannot say anything further about foreign language sources, as I speak no other language as well as fluently as I do English. My rare contributions to other WPs usually consist of adding the equivalent authority control template. Both the Washington Post and New York Times pass WP:RS with flying colors, so I have, in the end, just decided to add a note on DOB discrepancy with those papers listed as sources. Vycl1994 (talk) 01:14, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vycl1994 -- OK, well done. Quis separabit? 01:16, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Citations/verifiability

Information icon Hello, I'm Intgr. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Trevor Sykes, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. -- intgr [talk] 11:13, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Intgr: This is the edit you are talking about, I presume. The edit summary of said contribution reads "dob and full name per lccn." See the authority control template near the bottom of the page for my source. The link immediately after LCCN: leads here to the American Library of Congress, which is a reliable source. The Trevor Sykes listed at LoC and WP are the same person, as both list The Money Miners as one of his works. Both the LoC and WP also mention Pierpont, his column/pseudonym. Also see the LoC DoBs section of my talk page for more information. Vycl1994 (talk) 15:41, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. If you use information from some external source in the article, then you should add a citation, especially if someone asks for it, and even moreso on articles about living persons. A link at the bottom of the article intermingled with navboxes is not a proper citation. -- intgr [talk] 07:18, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Intgr: authority control is designed by MediaWiki engineers to house the authority files of many different databases, usually of national libraries or some such organization. Some authority files have their own template to use, (DNB portal, LCAuth, MathGenealogy and more), but the authority control template is easiest and preferred because it reads information directly from Wikidata. This migration of data has been around longer than I have been an editor, see the now-inactive VIAFbot for an example. Take a look around over at Wikidata. I encourage you to help out on that project. Thanks, Vycl1994 (talk) 07:47, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but that does nothing to address my concerns: Verifiability is a policy of Wikipedia, it requires citations for challenged material. Authority control is not a form of citation. -- intgr [talk] 11:38, 9 September 2015 (UTC) Your message does not address my concerns: Verifiability is a core policy of Wikipedia, it requires citations for challenged material. Authority control is a nice thing to have, but authority control templates are not a form of citation — please provide proper citations when people request them. Just an simple URL between tags is sufficient. -- intgr [talk] 11:38, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Intgr: I can do you one better, see cite linked authority file. Formatting is important too, and the simple ref could lead to link rot. Vycl1994 (talk) 12:54, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 Ma–Xi meeting

Conversation between Ma and Xi during dinner got reverted/deleted. Ma & Xi's return from Singapore got reverted/deleted. Yet words and conversations from opposition parties, media, NGO and common people got all listed in the articles (including all of the fights near Legislative Yuan and ROC Presidential Office). It looks like the article content of the reactions to the meeting is much larger than the content of the meeting chronology itself. That is just plain not objective at all (tilting towards the opposition parties). Meeting is the main focus of the article, yet (from my point of view) we don't have enough content yet for such significant meeting in the history of Chinese civilization ever. Is there any other detail we can add to the meeting detail? Instead of just reactions to the meeting from 3rd people point of view? Sigh ... Chongkian (talk) 01:11, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: The events of the relatively recent Sunflower Student Movement and the secrecy of the meeting plans may have something to do with the size of the opposition section. After all, plans were first leaked by Liberty Times and caused it to be a big deal, even if a direct announcement by the Ma administration would have achieved the same effect. What I'm trying to say is it does not surprise me that the opposition is making its voice heard. The South China Morning Post seems to have extensive coverage of the meeting, as they have organized all meeting-related stories into a thread I posted to the external link section. If you take a more detailed look than I did at that link, there may be more worthwhile information to include. Vycl1994 (talk) 06:33, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

haha .. thanks for that small correction. it has been a long night to write all of those newly elected member (not enough sleep here #_#) .. can u check if there is any other extra info or if there is any other small mistakes or corrections? .. oh ya, maybe u can also check if any of those new Legislative Yuan members have already their individual wikipedia article (maybe due to different naming writing (pinyin, wade giles or tw aborigine name) between listed from CEC website & what has been written in Wikipedia before) thanks a lot ^_^ Chongkian (talk) 01:17, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Chongkian: the Lin Li-chan error is the only "real" one that I noticed. (because I'm working on her article now) As for redirects and such, I made one for Ke Jian-ming Vycl1994 (talk) 01:27, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ya, remember when we made those articles about 2014 ROC Local Election in which we took most of the date from ROC CEC (central election commission) website for the resources. But then after 2-3 months after that, all of the election data inside CEC is gone, thus making all of those links i've posted become dead link. I'm afraid this 2016 ROC legislative & presidential election data from CEC will also be gone next month. so is there any method to preserve these reference (either offline or make a mirror site (without violating copyright thingy for sure)) so that these Wikipedia election-related articles can always have its sources. I'm just wondering if u've done similar things before. Chongkian (talk) 02:23, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Chongkian: This means all CEC links must be tracked down and archived before they go dead. I'd use the Wayback Machine for that. Just copy and paste a CEC link into the search bar on that page (where it says only "http://", then click the gray "browse history" button. If that page is not saved on the Wayback Machine database yet, a box will appear and say "Save this URL in the Wayback Machine. Click that once, and it should save. When it saves, the web address will change into something that starts with https://web.archive.org... (Example https://web.archive.org/web/20160117023007/http://vote2016.cec.gov.tw/en/T4/n100000000000000.html. Last step: Copy and paste that full link into the WP reference. Thank you

Thank you for adding the complete birthdate for Lyn Mikel Brown and for noting such on Dorothy M. Healy. Is LCCN something that I can get a free subscription for? It's not easy finding complete birthdates. Thanks again, Yoninah (talk) 16:14, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Yoninah: Please see this section of my talk page for an explanation of how I access and use the Library of Congress Control Number. To summarize, the Library of Congress usually takes birth dates by quoting biographies of the person, or contacting the author directly. A previous editor had questioned the reliability of the LoC, a US governmental institution, but subsequent discussions I've had have largely restored it as a reliable source, unless it cites IMDb or Wikipedia itself, which it occasionally does (specific examples above).
I usually find the LCCN by way of viaf.org, the website of the Virtual International Authority File, which lists authority control data sets for many national libraries. Simply type a name into the search bar and see if the website returns any results, then copy and paste relevant data sets into Wikidata. The authority control template then calls on Wikidata to fill in the appropriate data sets whenever the template is trancluded. However, VIAF can also screw up and assign multiple data sets to one person, which often happens if the person has multiple pseudonyms. When I find those I post them to WP:VIAF/errors and let someone else handle them, because I'm not an expert on the inner workings of the MediaWiki software.
I hope this long-winded explanation helped. If you have any further questions about authority control, see Wikipedia:Authority control, or ask here, and I'll try to clear things up. Vycl1994 (talk) 19:16, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New ROC cabinet members

lol, so fast u update the info of the ROC vice premier which i've just created like few minutes ago. I guess we will have a lot of tasks to make in updating all of the ROC cabinet members info in the coming month until their inauguration on 20 may 2016. Chongkian (talk) 00:43, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chongkian I figured that you would beat me to the article creation, so I made a complete infobox for Lin in my sandbox, hit preview to make sure everything was right, then copy and pasted it over to the article. Vycl1994 (talk) 00:48, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Questions concerning your edits to Han Xu (diplomat)

Hello, I noticed your recent edit to Han Xu (diplomat) and was curious why you removed the persondata. Was something incorrect about it? Thank you so much CawheeTalk 00:00, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Cawhee: Persondata has been deprecated since May 2015. As part of my edits to Wikidata, mostly concerning the use of authority control, I have been transferring the data formerly hosted on Persondata to Wikidata, and removing the persondata template from Wikipedia, replacing it with authority control, where applicable, instead. Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin) template

Hi-The Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin) template needs to be fixed; each time I clicked on ot the Mississippi Valley Conference (Iowa) template comes up-many thanks-RFD (talk) 15:03, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@RFD: The code for was borrowed from . I thought I had fixed my error, and now, both the |title = and |name = parameters are filled with Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin). I don't really know what else to do, and would appreciate suggestions. Vycl1994 (talk) 00:28, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi-Many thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. The Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin) template seems to working; no problems. However, I sometimes wonder about the code system within Wikipedia; a few weeks ago, the categories involving the members of the state legislatures were not in alphabetical order. Then, this was corrected after a few days. Again, my thanks-RFD (talk) 12:43, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:55, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

Hi Vycl1994, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. education and politics in Taiwan

Thank you for quality articles on people active in education and politics in Taiwan such as Hsieh Chi-ta and Wellington Koo (politician, born 1958), for navboxes, page moves, redirects and gnomish corrections, for contributions to ITN such as 2016 Japan Series, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thank you! I don't seek such lavish attention for my contributions to the project, and am unaccustomed to receiving it. As such, I apologize if the following statement makes for awkward reading. It truly surprises me that others know about and think highly of my work here, despite my attempts to avoid the limelight. Again, thanks, though I believe my only contribution to the Main Page was 2015 Ma–Xi meeting, nominated by Fuebaey. Vycl1994 (talk) 10:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for lavish praise and the correction. Sorry I must have misunderstood the ITN entry on your user page ;) - I noticed your additions and correction to OREYA (took the picture), and like to thank people who help me. The project QAI is also called the cabal of the outcasts, btw, I hope you don't mind the company ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:51, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Hi Vycl1994, thanks a lot for your work on Leslie Koo and Chester Koo. I've nominated Leslie Koo for ITN and named you as a contributor. See Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates#RD: Leslie Koo. Feel free to cast your vote there. Cheers! -Zanhe (talk) 04:31, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Zanhe: Redirects are cheap, my friend–that is, you deserve all of the credit for L. Koo's article. I began working on C. Koo in part because you'd done most of the heavy lifting on the original redirect at recent deaths. Best, Vycl1994 (talk) 05:18, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin) Template

Hi, I saw your Mississippi Valley Conference (Wisconsin) template and wanted to do high school templates for my area. I sourced the coding from that template, and on the template page it looks fine. However, when i put it on to article pages (like Sheboygan South High School), it behaves differently. I'm relatively new to Wikipedia, and I don't know where to start with changing things. Please help! Willsome429 (talk) 16:46, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Willsome429: Templates are unlike prose article text, and naboxes, such as the one you created, should belong on their own line in the edit window. I've fixed the problem in this edit. Happy editing! Vycl1994 (talk) 16:54, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Paul R. Fleischman (birthday)

Hi, thank you for adding the birthday. I only knew the year, where did you look up the day? Pyrini (talk) 20:18, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pyrini: I added authority control to Paul R. Fleischman in this edit and cited my source via edit summary in a subsequent edit as "d[ate] o[f] b[irth] per lccn." If you scroll down near the end of the article Paul R. Fleischman, you will find a set of numbers and letters next to something marked LCCN. Clicking on that external link leads you to an authority control file about Fleischman maintained by the United States Library of Congress. Under a heading titled "sources" at the LCCN link (here), you will find two lines of text, the second of which indicate Fleischman's birth date. For other discussions I have had about authority control, please read the other sections of may talk page, namely here and here. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me via my talk page. Happy editing! Vycl1994 (talk) 23:58, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Peter Nguyen Van Hung
Peter Nguyen Van Hung on Ketagalan Boulevard, 2015
Born
Nguyễn Văn Hùng

(1958-11-21) November 21, 1958 (age 65)
Bình Tuy Province, Vietnam

Father Peter Nguyễn Văn Hùng (chữ Hán: ; born November 21, 1958) is a Vietnamese Australian Roman Catholic priest and human rights activist in Taiwan. He was recognised by the United States Department of State as a "hero acting to end modern day slavery".[1]

Columban upon his arrival.[2]

He lived in Japan for three years, studying and taking a variety of jobs to support himself, including as a highway repairman, steel factory worker, and gravedigger. He first came to Taiwan in 1988 as a missionary, after which he went to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to study at a seminary. He was ordained in 1991[2] and returned to Taiwan the following year (in 1992).

His work has also made him the target of intimidation in Taiwan.[2]
