Unit4 was founded in 1980 by Chris Ouwinga and listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange in 1998.[3]

In 2000, Unit4 merged with the Norwegian ERP software house Agresso Group ASA[4] and the company name was changed to Unit4Agresso.

In 2008, it purchased the UK-listed accounting software company, CODA.[5] In 2010 Unit4 bought Polish software company Teta.[6] In 2011 it expanded its Asia-Pacific operations further with the acquisition of HR Software provider PROSOFT.[7]

In 2015, Unit4 rebranded its Coda financial management software package as Unit4 Financials.[9] The Unit4 People Platform was also launched in 2015 as the foundation for Unit4 business applications using Microsoft Azure technology.[9]

In 2015, Unit4 acquired education software company Three Rivers.[10]

In 2016, the company acquired Prevero.[10] Unit4 later rebranded Prevero's corporate performance management corporate performance management (CPM) software to Unit4 Financial Planning & Analysis.[11]

In 2017, Unit4 acquired professional services automation software company Assistance.[10] After the acquisition, Unit4 developed its PSA Suite professional services automation software on Microsoft Dynamics CRM.[12] Also in 2017, Unit4 launched the first enterprise software Chatbot, called Wanda.[13]

In March 2019, Unit4 acquired Intuo, a talent enablement platform.[14]

In April 2019, Mike Ettling, former president of SAP SuccessFactors and CEO of NGA Human Resources, became Unit4's CEO.[15]
