Higher Heights for America

[edit]

Founded in 2011 Higher Heights endorses candidates and advocates for black women’s interests.[233][234][235][236]

It aspires to get more black women voting and elect more to office[233][237][238][239]

It focuses on black women because despite having the highest rate of voter turnout they are underrepresented in elected office.[240]

It has worked with Stacy Abrams, Letitia James, Val Demings, Cheri Beasley and Kamala Harris.[241][237]

It set the goal of electing a black women as governor something that has never been done and a black women senator which has only been done twice.[237]

In 2021 it set the goal to end the wage pay gap between black and white women.[242] It also bought a full page ad in the New York Times calling attention to the current lack of black women leaders in American politics.[243]

In 2023 it endorsed Cherelle Parker to be the first black women mayor of Philadelphia.[244]

PODER PAC

[edit]

PODER PAC was founded in 2008 in Orlando, Florida[245] it is a democratic PAC its goal is to increase and support pro-choice Latinas running for all levels of elected office.[246][247][248][249]

In 2008 it supported Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination for president[250]

In 2016 its mission changed to exclusively electing Latinas to congress[250] hosted a fundraiser with Loretta Sanchez for California's senate seat in Philadelphia[251][252]

In 2020 Mike Bloomberg gave 500k to the group in an effort to win the state of Florida for Joe Biden[253]

After Roe V. Wade was overturned the group said it was imperative to support more pro choice Latinos for congress.[254][255] It said that he decision may help elect more candidates.[256]

The group has supported 90% of democratic Latinas in the 117th United States Congress[257] In 2022 it launched the Poderosas 2022 Protection Program to support pro choice Latina incumbents[258]
