Deletion of Subhas Gupta Page - Need your views

  • Hi, hope you are good.
  • You recently deleted subject page. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Subhas_Gupta&action=edit&redlink=1
  • Your comments have been "As per Forbes, CBS News, ABC News, and the Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Research Council of America is a vanity publisher whose listings have no actual merit".
  • Well i agree to your observations but my counter argument is : that page have more than 25 other references which included books and publications of repute.
  • While reviewing similar pages of doctors you have flagged them for more citations (those who had lesser / similar references). The list include :-
  • Therefore, I would request you to flag this page for improvement - like you have done for all the other pages - that I am quoting, rather than deleting the same.
  • Kindly do comment so that we continue to consider you one of the most neutral admins at wiki. Thanks --ThinkDone (talk) 16:54, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
The articles about the other physicians made plausible assertions of notability above and beyond the CRCA. The article on Dr Gupta did not. You are welcome to submit a fresh article on Dr Gupta if you are able to make an assertion of notability which is stronger than the valueless CRCA ranking. DS (talk) 17:01, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks and further clarification on Subhas Gupta Page deletion

  • My regards for your neutral clarification.
  • Lets take example of this page that has not been recommended for deletion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khaled_J._Saleh
  • 3 references out of which first is a profile; and this page is staying. If listing down publications stand as good citations, then Sunjay Guptay had a link to more than 200. I did not paste it here since i my opinion, it should be clutter for wiki standards.
  • His research, which has been published in newspapers, has also been neglected.
  • I wold request that may be you go through that page again. That doc is a notable plastic surgeon; his previous page was deleted in 2006 i think for all good reason, but this one is quite alright - you may flag it for further improvement ....
  • Cheers, i must admit your talk page is a wikipage on "writing pages for wiki" in itself :0

--ThinkDone (talk) 14:05, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

To repeat -- you are welcome to create a fresh article on Dr Gupta, if you can do a better job than last time. Also, if you disagree with the existence of the article on Dr Saleh, you are free to start a deletion debate -- just follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. However, I just compared the two articles (as an administrator, I can read deleted content). For Dr Saleh, there's various "researcher of the year" details and awards from legitimate societies; for Dr Gupta, there's the fake listing, and "he is part of this company, he is part of that company, he worked at this hospital, he worked at that hospital, he has been on this committee, he has been on that committee, he contributed to this textbook, he contributed to that textbook, he teaches here, he teaches there, and he got a medal when he graduated from high school". None of those statements are an assertion of notability. When I looked at all the articles of physicians who were swindled into paying to be on the List of Best Doctors, I initially thought that I would have to delete them all, but -- except for Dr Gupta -- they all made at least a plausible assertion of notability as per third parties. Dr Gupta's article did not. This is not a statement against Dr Gupta, it is a statement against that article. If you can write an article about Dr Gupta which plausibly makes assertions of notability without resorting to worthless scams like the Top Doctors in America lists, then good; Wikipedia is not a zero-sum game and we all benefit from the creation of worthwhile articles. If you can't, then perhaps that's an indication that -- despite his genuine skill as a surgeon -- Dr Gupta does not meet criteria for inclusion. DS (talk) 14:36, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Walford, Somerset

Deletion of what seemed to be a perfectly acceptable stub, merely because it was originally created by a sock puppet, seems a bit extreme. Why not just move the deleted content and set up a redirect if you think the place does not merit its own article? We are now left with a number of redlinks, which someone will have to clean up.--Mhockey (talk) 21:34, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, but as far as I remember several editors contributed to the article, and it would be quite a bit of work to recreate it from scratch. Can you not simply restore it? --Mhockey (talk) 21:08, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I've examined it more carefully, and you were correct. I've restored it. This is not an offer to do a blanket restoration, mind you; each article will have to be considered on its own merits. DS (talk) 21:38, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Usernames

Hey. You've done some good work, but I've got a quibble re: your username. It implies that this account is being used by "the society" ("North American Geographical Society"); that's not permitted. Any given Wikipedia account is only to be used by one single person, and cannot be shared with other members of the NorAmGeogSoc.

I politely ask that you post a request to have your username changed, so as to more clearly indicate that you are one single person.

Apologies for the inconvenience. DS (talk) 14:08, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't know the mechanism to reply to you, but will try here. The NoAmGeogSoc is a single person, me. There are no other members of the NoAmGeogSoc. There are also no other users or members of the extended title, the North American Geographical Society, except me. I'm it. So my Wikipedia account, NoAmGeogSoc is used only by me, "one single person", and will be used only by me. I have filed to preserve my exclusive use of the North American Geographical Society name in my home state, but there is no other same named group out there. Anywhere. If you search the internet for "North American Geographical Society" you get nothing. By the way, I am also The Montana Geographical Society. Just me. I am thinking of becoming the Wyoming Geographical Society, soon. Neither of these is a Wikipedia account.

The notes above say to sign this with this: NoAmGeogSoc (talk) 23:36, 10 September 2013 (UTC). or maybe this: (NoAmGeogSoc (talk) 23:36, 10 September 2013 (UTC)). If that doesn't do it, well I am sincerely yours, the NoAmGeogSoc. Just me.

Usernames

This is an addendum. I still am not sure if I am communicating back to you.

In a more serious vein I have looked at the internet again and there is still nothing for "North American Geographical Society". It doesn't exist as an entity or even as a point of reference. I have also checked and my prior state filing for exclusive use of the name "North American Geographical Society" has expired, so it doesn't exist either. In fact there apparently is no North American Geographical Society. So I am back to the simple "NoAmGeogSoc" which is used only by a single user, and is indicative of nothing else at all. except my single user efforts on Wikipedia.

I guess this is the way one signs off: ≈≈≈≈ Lets try that again. NoAmGeogSoc (talk) 00:06, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Your review of my sandbox?

I saw a notification that my sandbox was reviewed, I had noticed your purpose of checking for sockpuppets or spammers. I appreciate your efforts to keep spammers out but I do want to ask what why you were looking at me in particular?

CSD

I just restored two articles you deleted, because speedy A7 doesn't apply to articles of their types: Firdaus Kharas: The Animated Activist. and Science of Science Tool (Sci2). I assume you intended to use A7, since the reason you gave was "notability not asserted" -- and that's not a speedy reason , because A7 reads "no indication of importance or significance" a deliberately much looser criterion. I'm not certain either is notable, but that's another matter. I'm wording on the SoS article, but the other is out of my field.

Myself, I find I am very liable to errors like these when I do deletions single-handed, so I just nominate & let another admin delete--except when something is so utterly promotional that I lose patience, which seems to be happening a lot lately. . DGG ( talk ) 05:14, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Review

Hi, DragonflySixtyseven! I just saw you reviewed some of my experimental articles, which I created so far. Can you please tell me why? Cheers! --Sundostund (talk) 14:24, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining. I needed clarification why you reviewed my experimental pages, because I plan to create more of them. Again, thanks! --Sundostund (talk) 14:47, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
As for non-free images, I never added them on any list (experimental or not) on purpose, I already told that to Werieth. If there is any non-free image which I added unintentionally (and I'm sure there are some of them), it must be removed according to WP policies. I'll try to be careful as much as I can when I add an image to a list, and you and all the other editors are free to remove it if its non-free. I saw on my notifications that you "reviewed" one of my user subpages. However, there was no change to that page, its talk page, my user page, or my user talk page. I don't know what "reviewed" means on Wikipedia, either. Could you leave a message on my talk page with a clarification? Thanks! Max0987654321 (talk) 19:49, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Critics & Writers

You deleted this page at 00:01, on 21 September 2013.

In hindsight, I do understand that the page, as it stood, did not offer enough evidence of notability.

I don't know if the following could perhaps provide enough such evidence, so I thought I'd simply ask you what you think:

1. A blog comparing Critics & Writers with iDreamBooks (scroll down a bit to the entry ″ALL the book reviews, ALL the time!″, or just search the page for ″Critics″);

2. A republishing, on a different site, of an interview originally done at Critics & Writers;

3. Another republishing on a different site, of an interview originally done at Critics & Writers;

4. A blog entry describing the site. The author of the blog contributes to Critics & Writers, but that site operates by soliciting contribution from authors, critics, and qualified readers, so I think it is legitimate to include coverage of the site by them as independent evidence.

You can reply on my my talk page. Thanks! Reuqr (talk) 15:03, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) That's great, but none of those meet our reliable sources policy. --Rschen7754 19:35, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Sandbox Review

Hi, DragonflySixtyseven!
I was surprised to get a notice that you had reviewed one of my Sandboxes (which I call Whiteboards instead). It's just a place where I place useful links or other information I want to be handy so my User Page isn't all cluttered.
Were you checking to see whether the space was being misused? I know "WP isn't a webhost" but given that I've seen Editors with dozens of subpages (that aren't holding drafts of articles), I assumed there was a certain freedom to use them as notepads. Is this correct? Liz Read! Talk! 13:41, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Just took the time to read messages on your Talk Page and clearly I wasn't singled out as there are other Editors asking the same question, about people "reviewing" their subpages. I didn't know this was part of site-wide process. Liz Read! Talk! 13:48, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Just saw the message you left on my Talk Page. Thanks for the explanation! Liz Read! Talk! 13:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Your article submission Critigen

Hello DragonflySixtyseven. It has been over six months since you last edited your article submission, entitled Critigen.

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note, however, that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Critigen}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 22:02, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello there and well done for your work!

I would like to ask you why you changed the name of my article from "Panagiota "Peny" Karagkouni" which was the original one and the one I chose as this is the player's full name to "Peny Karagkouni".

Could you please revert it back to the original one?

I hope you understand. Have a nice day :)

Thanks for reviewing Homewrecker

I'm not sure what the review is for (there are no pending changes), but thank you for the time you took to review the Homewrecker article. Dovid (talk) 13:49, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all.
  • Got it. The notice just said "DS reviewed Homewrecker," which is what confused me. Good Guy Administrator... thanks for making WP a happier place. Dovid (talk) 14:01, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Hobby Lobby

Hi there, Dragonfly. I see you were briefly active on the Hobby Lobby article last week, when a news-driven edit war occurred. I was contacted (and retained) by a PR firm working for the company, and I agreed to look at a complaint they had with the article. Having reviewed it, I think they are correct to be concerned about the Accusations of anti-Semitism section, which seems like a case of WP:SCANDAL-mongering with a WP:LABEL-ing issue to go with it. I've suggested an alternative version (on article Talk here), which I believe I should not add myself. Would you be willing to look at the issue and exercise your judgment? Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 23:48, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi again, two editors have commented on the section to say they're supportive of my suggested changes, although as of the moment, neither has implemented them. I see that you were back to the page briefly in the last 12 hours—did you have any thoughts on the matter? Best, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 13:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Hey there, thank you very much for making the changes! Your additional material is fine by me, with one clarification to request. Specifically, Berwitz was not himself the individual who was allegedly told "We don't cater to you people." I've quoted from one of the news stories to help explain on the article's Talk page, when you have a moment to look again. (Oh, and there's a small typo in the section as well.) Thanks for reviewing To Inflict

I'm not sure why after over a month of creating the page with no {{Proposed deletion}} tag warning and perfectly referenced material that the page To Inflict https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Inflict was deleted by you for (notability not asserted). I all ready feel by writing this it is a more than uphill battle to simply make a case or talk to you man to man or man to woman. Experience has it disputing or any manner of discussion after deletion is met with negative results or that's how it just has gone with admins versus commoners on wikipedia, but I hope this one might be an exception and you hear me out please. Most importantly any substantive edit to this page should reflect consensus as a wikipedia goal for full deletion of this page or is it to attain a goal of displaying an article like this one. This article is notability asserted as a short film recognized as a prominent film festival selected film also with a front page newspaper article story written about it and clearly referenced. When in doubt, before deletion or notability in this case please discuss first on the talk page before destroying a half days written and referenced work on this topic. No doubt you went through the backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that this page was not spam, nor a copyright violation, and not an attack page, or an opportunity to be a reason why this would be a case to delete someone's page without asking first. Please ask me some more questions about why we can un-delete the page or perhaps you can redeem the humanity in your decision to make this an occasional exception that may apply to include this article. I'm sure your a Good Guy Administrator... thanks for making Wikipedia a happier place and me a happy contributor. I appreciate your time in fully looking at this one again please. zdrakelcf/sandbox review

Hi, I noticed you reviewed my sandbox recently. I assume nothing was terribly glaring, but I would like to let you know that there is absolutely a COI here and I am working hard to submit the most encyclopedic page that I can. I made this account for the purpose of submitting this article, but I very much understand this is not in the spirit of Wiki and I have made a personal account (User:burnsdrake) where I am revising the sandbox you reviewed, from which I will submit the article for review formally.

I am also trying to contribute to the community as an individual- editing articles etc- as I very much value the Wiki project. I would love any input you might have as I edit and source this article-in-progress. My company prides itself on our senior advocacy efforts and we are the developer of an innovative new funding method for seniors which keeps them out of debt, allows them to choose the long term care of their choice, protects their Medicaid eligibility while at the very same time keeping seniors from getting on Medicaid prematurely (which is a big deal given our current US budgetary problems). We do utilize a life settlement, but we are fundamentally different and we are supported by legislation across the country. I feel this is very notable and that there should probably be links to this program on the life settlement and viatical Wiki pages, but I can suggest that on their respective talk pages when the time comes. I very much would appreciate any tips! Zdrakelcf (talk) 15:01, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! Zdrakelcf (talk) 15:17, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi DragonflySixtyseven. The subject of this article was the democratic party nominee in 2012 for a seat in the House (losing to Rep. Bill Young) and is running again for a seat in the 2014 election cycle (currently at the Democratic primary stage). I believe there was an assertion of notability (or at least that there is one to be made) and that an AfD should be conducted if the article is to be deleted. Would you consider restoration pending such a discussion? Recent coverage of her campaign includes October 17 story. Have a great day. Candleabracadabra (talk) 15:05, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Being a nominee for a major party in a national election certainly establishes some notability. There is quite a bit of coverage that usually goes along with that, including in Wikipedia articles on the elections. And this individual is getting coverage again this cycle [1]. If you move the article to my userspace I will work on it there before restoration. If not I will go take it to DRV. At the very least I think an AfD is appropriate for this subject as there is an assertion of notability and quite a bit of coverage. Thanks for your consideration. Candleabracadabra (talk) 15:50, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Being a candidate for a major party is not necessarily notability. If you can show me some coverage of Ms Ehrlich that does not pertain to her candidacy, then fine. Otherwise, no. DS (talk) 15:52, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm having trouble finding the other 11 subjects deleted. Is there a reason they aren't showing up in your contribution history? I would like to review them to see if there are others that shouldn't have been speedy deleted. I appreciate any assistance you can provide. Candleabracadabra (talk) 16:33, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. I will try to have a look when I have some time. Do deletions not show up in an editor's (admin's) contribution log? I'm not seeing them in your contribution history. Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:59, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

All of the candidates you deleted

I'm at something of a disadvantage here given that I can no longer view the candidates you deleted, so it's hard for me to remember exactly what made each of them notable.

In addition, I don't see how you can unilaterally decide to delete all of these pages, even as an administrator. As it states here: Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators: "Even admins should mostly use the Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion pages when they think a page should be deleted". There was no libel or infringement of copyright so it's not as if there's a huge hurry to delete the pages. It would seem more proper to post a notice and gain consensus on the talk pages, or through the many other Wikipedia deletion processes. At the very least, it seems unfair that the community wasn't given a chance to "improve" the pages before you deleted them.

Anyway, I don't see where in the rules it says all the things you're saying. All I see under politicians is:

"Politicians and judges who have held international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members or former members of a national, state or provincial legislature.[12] This also applies to those who have been elected to such offices but have not yet been sworn in. Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage.[7] Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article". In the case of candidates for political office who do not meet this guideline, the general rule is to redirect to an appropriate page covering the election or political office sought in lieu of deletion. Relevant material from the biographical article can be merged into the election or political office page if appropriate"

Nowhere in there does it say that there needs to be assertions of notability aside from their candidacy. More generally, the notability bar for Wikipedia indicates seems to "significant coverage from reliable sources." Nowhere do I see anything that would indicate that significant coverage of a candidate from reliable sources would not be enough to make them notable. Some of the candidates you deleted may not have had significant coverage from reliable sources, but Matt Bevin certainly did. In addition, Ann Callis is an Illinois judge, and would seem to fit the grounds of notability as a politician. Rocky Lara is a significant locally elected official. He may only be a "mere" congressional aide to you, but John Hugya was a major figure in Pennsylvania politics for decades as an aide to John Murtha. Gwen Graham, Erin Bilbray, and Kevin Strouse have all received major local and national coverage as top candidates. Again, you may have a point that notability was insufficiently asserted, but that isn't grounds to delete them with barely any notice.

Chris (talk) 18:38, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

DS, please restore these pages (or give me or another administrator an OK to do so) so we don't have take all of them to DRV: Gwen Graham, Erin Bilbray, Matt Bevin, Kevin Strouse, Jessica Ehrlich, Rocky Lara, John Lewis (Montana politician), Paul Clements, Corinna Robinson, Jim Mowrer, and John Hugya. The notability of these people per WP:POLITICIAN may be questionable, but your speedy deletions were not a valid application of WP:CSD#A7 because the articles all contained credible claims of the significance of their subjects. If you question the notability of these people, you need to take your concerns to AFD. --Orlady (talk) 19:04, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your review of IEEE Life Sciences

Hello, DS - I just wanted to drop by and say thank you for taking a look at the IEEE Life Sciences article. We've tried very hard to be as transparent as possible about who we (Interprose) are and to make sure any articles we write and/or edit strictly adhere to Wikipedia's MOS. Was there anything that we could've improved upon in this article or anything in the article to cause concern? We want to help make Wikipedia an even better resource than it is now, but we want to do so ethically. Any feedback or comments you'd like to share would be most appreciated.

Thank you! Mdrozdowski (talk) 20:28, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

DS, thank you very much for your answer and for getting back to me so quickly. We do appreciate any insight, and this was helpful. Cheers, Mdrozdowski (talk) 21:35, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Actions inconsistent with deletion policies

I believe your recent conduct has been incompatible with the expectations of administrator conduct, given the following facts:

  • You used your administrator tools to delete multiple pages under CSD A7...
    • When the articles in question clearly did not qualify as A7...
      • Per the text of WP:CSD#A7 itself, which notes "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines." (emphasis in original)
      • Per the one DRV with multiple participants so far at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2013_October_23 which is, at the time I write this unanimous in finding that your deletion was against policy.
      • And when your answers here and here are stubbornly peppered with references to notability, which, per the above is never considered in A7 deletions.
    • When Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators clearly indicates that "Even admins should mostly use the Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion pages when they think a page should be deleted."
    • When you've continued editing rather than admit your interpretation of CSD A7 is not correct and restore the articles after another admin politely asked you to do so.

Fundamentally, there's a reason that except in a very few and uncontroversial cases admins should speedy tag or speedy delete--but not both--and you've demonstrated that with quite a bit of panache. At best, you've created a borderline WP:FAIT situation by your use of the tools in line with what you think CSD-A7 says, rather than what it actually says, and then failed to understand why multiple good faith editors (which is remarkable in that only admins can see the still-deleted articles) and admins have found that your actions have no policy basis. Please do the right thing quickly--revert ALL your out-of-policy deletions, apologize for misunderstanding A7, commit to not doing it again--to keep this from escalating. Jclemens (talk) 06:48, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

"Quite a bit of panache" is a nice way to put it. Orser67 (talk) 21:01, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

I saw a notification that my sandbox was reviewed and noticed your purpose of checking for spammers. I appreciate your efforts to keep spammers out! I'm new to creating articles and have had a hard time researching/finding people in charge to provide advice and insight on how to create articles and publish correctly. I am wondering if you could provide any insight on what I've done so far, the usual review process, and when I should submit my page published? As mentioned before, very new to this. A while back in January, you deleted User:Awesomepossum20's page for vandalism, and it looks like it somehow was carried over to his userpage, followed by nonsense on his talk page. Since you dealt with him before, I was wondering if you can deal with him again. ZappaOMati 23:06, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Help

Hello!

I was trying to add Jin Jung Kwan Hapkido and also the founder, Kim Myung Yong, to Wikipedia and they were deleted. The style is big worldwide and Grandmaster Kim (Kim is his last name, in Korean culture you use last name first) has authored books and videos on Jin Jung Kwan Hapkido and self-defense. I realize I am biased as I am a Master of Jin Jung Kwan Hapkido and have trained with GM Kim at multiple seminars. I wondered if you were interested in writing an entry? GM Kim was one of the original students of founder Ji Han Jae and one of the original Masters of hapkido (in the picture of Masters of Hapkido in 1972) and has been training in hapkido since it was first called hapkido in 1959. Jin Jung Kwan was the demonstration team for the Korea Hapkido Federation for many years. There are smaller styles and lesser instructors on wikipedia.

Thanks for your consideration. That was my purpose in joining Wikipedia so if you feel I need deleted, I understand. I had read in the past people wondering why Jin Jung Kwan and Kim Myung Yong were not in Wikipedia and so I was going to add them. 11/04/13 -Kyle AmentJJK Hapkido (talk) 22:41, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Uploads

Yes, I'm 100% sure they're public domain, but I have account at Commons. And I do not intend to create one. Some bot transfers them later anyway. Kraxler (talk) 14:27, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Well, I've tried it out. The Commons upload process/form/wizard is awkward and not very helpful. The en.wiki Upload Wizard is tops. I prefer the latter and, frankly, what I can't understand is: Why do I fill in the form at en.wiki, and then clicking on "Upload to Commons", I get redirected to a different form to be filled in instead of using the already typed in info. Quite absurd. I guess it's easier to get the local bot working... Kraxler (talk) 14:57, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Deleted user page

Hi dragon fly 67.. Thank goodness you're not a dragon fly. I'm writing to ask if my user page which was deleted by Yunshui can be put back in my user space. I don't know if she thought it was an article. But it was just a user page Leon (Lee) Ousby - Actor. It was upsetting anyone. And I had a lot of other stories. My refs where around 21. Nothing on the page was hurtful and like I said at the be beginning. Welcome to my user page and a little note to editors to contact me before editing let alone deleting the page. Peace. Reviewed user page

I've had a notification that you've reviewed my user page. I'm not entirely sure what that entails (not kept up with the user culture on WP), but looking at my page history it appears someone has added a tag citing "possible self promotion". If that has anything to do with your review, I would like to ask you how my short paragraph of harmless existential musing - none of which promotes anything other than a syntax-overladen attempt at profundity - is any more self promotional than the millions of detailed autobiographies I see on other user pages. Squab chowder (talk) 09:18, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

User:Leon (Lee) Ousby - Actor Thanks for getting back to me, if you could have what was deleted sent to my email and any other sources where I could put it. That would be great. The Wanderground

Hi DragonflySixtyseven. I saw that the page for The Wanderground was deleted several years ago due to copyright violation. As part of a feminist science fiction seminar at my university I'd like to create a new page for it, including how it fits into broader discussions on fem sci-fi, utopian fiction, and the women's movement. The page suggested I check with you, would that be a permissible reason to recreate an article for The Wanderground? Thank you for your help. A.Kate Fritsch (talk) 05:13, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

My Sandbox page review :-)

Hi Dragonfly, you reviewed my user sandbox about a week ago. First of all, thanks for that! Now I have a questions: Even though I'm (auto-)reviewer and can mark pages as patrolled (which I've just done for the first time), my own edits need to be patrolled by other users? And, in particular, are User Talks / User Sandboxes not excempt?

Also, another user posted a similar question far above, between your archive list and the table of contents. If you've already seen it, sorry -.- Best regards, Se'taan (talk) 07:54, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi again, thanks for your detailed answer. I wasn't aware that these approval systems are even different (and I've been hanging around for years - ignorantly, as it seems o.0°). Apparently I got patrolling rights from creating user and talk pages and didn't even notice. I'll try to mark obvious pages from the backlog (if any left) and leave difficult cases to experienced patrollers, at least that's what the policy page recommended. Thanks again for your explanations! Se'taan (talk) 05:55, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Greeting Dragonfly, I hope this message finds you in good health, mind body and most importantly of course spirit. I finally today had an opportunity to return to begin my formatting corrections & improvements in connection with the article Jonathan Smith (EMMY Award Winning Record Producer / Social Youth Advocate) however upon my return and navigating to my Sand Box I did not see the original article anywhere in order for me to begin my formatting corrections and general article improvements along the lines of what you were so kind to have educated me on. When you stated that you would be returning it to the sand box, I was under the impressions that I would simply click on the Mailbox Link and begin making the required edits. Sorry to be a bother so soon, however if you could again be so kind as to advise me of how I should navigate to the area where I can begin my corrections, I would be so very much appreciative. I thank you in advance for your assistance and look forward to receiving your response. Deletion of Pitchipoï(film)

Good morning. I saw that you deleted Pitchipoï(film) a few months ago and I do not understand why. The film was made by two 15 year-old that do not make money out of it, they just want everyone to remember the Holocaust thanks to their little film. I am sorry I tried quite a few times to put a link to the short film and you told me it was not allowed; now I understand and will not do it again, but I did it only to make the film a little more know by the community, not to make more money out of it. Could you please reconsider the deletion? These two French girls are awesome and I hope you understand that they, and I by helping them as a supporter of their project, have no evil intentions: they only want people to remember Auschwitz. Thank you for your time Caliefleur (talk) 7:09, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

I read the deleted content again (administrators have access to deleted content), and I'm very sorry, but the answer is still no. I completely understand that this was not made as a profit-seeking enterprise, but that's not the point. The point is that you did not make any statements about whether this short film made by two teenage girls had any notability. That they made this short documentary to honor those who died in Auschwitz is admirable, yes. But this was two teenage girls who made a 33-minute documentary by themselves, and posted it on Vimeo. Has the news media taken any notice of this movie? Has there been any independent third-party coverage of it? If yes, how was I supposed to know that? You didn't say anything about it. Show me notability and I'll restore it. And if no, well... that's why it got deleted. DS (talk) 14:24, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello again. I understand. They have a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pitchipoishortfilm), and there was an article about them in a French newspaper for teens ("L'actu des lycées"). One of the girls (salome duarte lepez) was mentioned twice in the French newspapers "Nice-Matin" and "20 minutes" (anais cavalie once). The article directly about the film (l'actu des lycées) is unavailable on the newspaper's website but here is a copy that they put on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=363557513753855&id=356299844479622) and here are the articles where they are mentioned (http://www.20minutes.fr/nice/884931-plonges-camps and http://www.fondation-donbosco.fr/sites/fondation-donbosco.fr/IMG/pdf/revue_de_presse.pdf page 18). Thank you for your time again. 17:34, 24 November 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caliefleur (talkcontribs)

  • Hello, I was asked to review this question and to give an independent opinion. The challenge here is that thousands of short films have been made about the Holocaust over the years, most of them not meeting the notability requirements. The specific requirements can be found at Wikipedia:Notability (films). I'd be looking for some type of reviews from professional film reviewers, a theatrical release or award-winning appearance at a significant film festival (one that has its own Wikipedia article), or something along those lines. It is highly commendable that these young filmmakers worked so hard on such an important topic, and I personally hope that they continue their work. Risker (talk) 21:52, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

You can read more about why it was at WP:A7. However, I would suggest that you try not to edit in areas in which you have a Conflict of interest. Hello DragonflySixtyseven

I noticed that you reviewed my sandbox. It is my first. How did I do? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Discernpress/sandbox

Just curious about something. Three citation footnotes have appeared in my text. Perhaps they've been there all along (it's been awhile since I first tinkered with this). Perhaps you added them. If the latter, might I be able to public the contents of my sandbox once I've filled in the three footnotes in question? I am kind of confused around the citationing concept and it would be helpful to know if this would do it.

Thanks in advance, Dragonfly. (May I call you Dragonfly?)

Better names

Thank you for migrating my old image files to better names. I now use better names for images. I just loaded about 100 from the Library of Congress to Wiki Commons. If you like images and research, you should join the effort at Flickr Commons to add context to the images. The LOC adds about 50 new ones each Friday. There are three or four regulars that do the research, but I am the only one to add the images to Wiki Commons and the only one to add the notable people to Wikipedia. I need some help, and perhaps can provide some. I'm a graduate of West View High School, the predecessor to North Hills High School. While poking around the latter article, I saw a bunch of egregious misstatements about the school's excellence (basically that it is #1 in everything; probably vandalism). Further poking led me to the subject user, who seems to be blocked, but I'm not 100% sure.

She seems not to understand much about Wikipedia, but to be interested in fixing the vandalism. I'm willing to and desirous of contacting her personally or by phone, to get things moving on fixing the article and, if it is appropriate, to get her back as an editor. I'm not sure how to do the latter. What I think she wants to do is to become user:Amanda_Hartle, and to make her edits from there, while clearly stating her COI. I need to know how to handle this. Please help me if you can. (I'm willing to fix a little of the vandalism myself, but I don't have much subject matter knowledge.) Lou Sander (talk) 22:04, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

The user did all the right steps - but she hid her unblock template within <nowiki> tags. Hi, A page I put up for Jack Cook Jangala who is an aboriginal artist was deleted as "blatant copyright" infringement. The original work that is cited as being the source of the copyright was produced by me. I am only too pleased to have the information made available to others. Can you advise how to get the page re-instated? Ozartmark (talk)ozartmarkOzartmark (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:37, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of services list from Resources Global Professionals entry

Hi - I saw that you deleted the list of services I included in my fix of the Resources Global Professionals entry, as overly promotional. I feel the information is necessary for readers to understand the company, and is actually neutral. I started a discussion on the talk page as to the merits of including descriptions for the services that the company provides. To be fair I'd like to open it to discussion. In the meantime, I put the list of services back without any descriptive text, pending additional input from others. Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia. Disambiguation link notification for December 21

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Leo Dorfman, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Two for the Money (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Nigel Slater

I was surprised to see no mention of Nigel Slater's sexuality on his page, then noticed the Talk: discussion. I'd like to add a mention that explains the situation but, as you set the autoreview flag, I figured I should check with you as to whether or not it was adequately clarified.

I've added a paragraph, with careful citations, including to DS's Talk: edit (because I couldn't work out how to reference an OTRS ticket directly) but, if it's still not acceptable, please do just revert my edit (because I have autoconfirmed privileges, so it will already be live).

For your possible convenience, the paragraph itself reads:

While the BBC dramatisation of his memoirs Toast portrayed the adolescent Slater as experiencing same-sex attraction[1][2] and a 2005 interview with the website AfterElton.com described Slater as "openly gay",[3] Slater and his girlfriend objected to a description of him as openly gay on Wikipedia in the past[4] and does not discuss his private life.

Reviewing my talk page and sandbox?

Dear Admin, and nice to meet you! I do have a few questions, however. Recently, I have noticed that my sandbox page and talk page were reviewed. From what I currently know of wikipedia (correct me if I am wrong!) is that one's talk page and sandbox shouldn't be taken seriously, and are not considered the encyclopedia aspect of wikipedia, merely used for discussion and testing, respectively. Therefore, I am a bit confused by the fact I received a notification of you reviewing my sandbox and talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterpacz1 (talkcontribs) 09:23, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Bernice Gordon

Hi there! We spoke in October about my [article on Bernice Gordon], the oldest living NYTimes crossword puzzle contributor, and about linking the page from Did You Know, on her 100th birthday next week (January 11). I haven't resubmitted the page for review since cleaning it up because you mentioned it should be a new article if you link to it. Should I go ahead and resubmit to make sure it's approved then contact you about potentially timing its post from Did You Know? Thank you! User:Vlanard —Preceding undated comment added 23:11, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Update: 6 Jan, Apologies as I'm new to wikipedia conventions - Is this where/how I am supposed to reply? I cannot find an existing online source for Jan 11, just 2 sources for her birthday being in January. Could we make the Did You Know text more generic and keep the 100th birthday/month, omitting mention of "today"/Jan 11, or is this a non-starter? Thanks. Vlanard (talk) 18:22, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Update 2 : 6 Jan, I don't believe the exact date has been published (yet). I may have access to her birth certificate, if that's useful. Thanks! Vlanard (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:51, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

I greatly appreciate all your efforts, no matter what. Thank you! 64.134.96.84 (talk) 13:40, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello Sir, I recently found that you have reviewed the page User:Bharathiya/Arun_Kumar_Pallathadka. I thank you for the same and I request your kind opinion on this matter. Thank you for your comments on Yucca desmetiana. I wanted to do something along the lines of what you suggest, but did not know how. Even now, I still do not know how to change the name of a page, as you suggest. Then I did not know how to delete the first page. Thanx for the help Joseph Laferriere (talk) 14:41, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Mikaeel Kular

Hi, I'm aggrieved that you deleted this page because it is all over the UK news and I want to read an unbiased source with details. Perhaps it won't be news in a months time, if that is the case, which I doubt, then it would be appropriate to delete it at that time. I personally think you made a bad decision, but I appreciate you guys are busy. Dilaudid (talk) 09:52, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

When it was deleted, it was about a routine missing kid. Now that a body's been found and an arrest made, it may be more notable. It will definitely get more headlines, though headlines alone (especially for a week or less) don't make an event notable. There have to be multiple sources discussing it in-depth (rather than merely repeating the facts of the case from a newswire story, or mentioning it in passing).
I recommend waiting at least a week before trying again. This will give some time for perspective and for some facts to become clearer. When dealing with people accused of crimes, recentism and sensationalism often lead to major (well-intentioned) WP:BLP problems.
Sorry, DragonflySixyseven, if this seems like conversation hijacking. Just ran across it and thought I'd give my two cents. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:15, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

Dear Sir or Madam, I'm writing to inquire why two images were deleted from a page a created. They were approved by wiki commons, for which I had to expressly solicit approval to use a gif logo, and magazine cover. Both of which are integral to the content of the page. If you think there is something wrong with the content can you please let me know what so that I can make the necessary changes? I would appreciate it if you would delete. Thank you! Friendly suggestion...

I, like many I see before me, came to your talk page curious as to what it meant that you'd reviewed my sandbox. A bit of conversation-tracking led me to the answer, but considering you seem to get the question a lot, have you considering putting an explanation at the top of your user (or talk) page answering that question? Anyway, thanks for all you do! GRUcrule (talk) 17:13, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

I have a question about your recent readdition to the above template. I do not know why that line was removed, but I do not understand why it is now necessary. Why does a file need to be renamed before moving to Commons? The template {{Rename media}} suggests moving the file to Commons (if suitable) as part of the renaming process. Obviously the mover would want to change all links to that file after the move since the name has changed. I definitely think there is relevance in ensuring the move to Commons has an appropriate name, but I don't understand why the file has to be moved locally first to then be transferred to Commons. If all is done correctly, what is the reasoning for that order? Could this readdition be replaced by something stating: When transferring, the Commons file should have a properly descriptive and unambiguous name and all local links to the file should be updated to the appropriate file name. Thanks, -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 20:58, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

I think I may not have explained very well, or you have missed a "possibility." Possibility 3: Rename image during move to Commons. The en.wp links would then need to be updated (as they should in any possibility, and then other links added as necessary. This is often what I do as a file mover when a request comes in for a free file that is in Common's scope. Kill two birds with one stone. Image is renamed appropriately and moved to Commons in one fell swoop. Then I go back and do all of the en.wp article updates that would be required regardless of when the image is renamed. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 21:19, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Question | Infobox > Relation

Hey there - I recently created a wikipedia article for Michael Avedon. His grandfather, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, has a Wikipedia page however it lacks a Personal Life section. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to list Michael Avedon beneath Spouse in the infobox as a "relation"? Thanks so much. AlexHollender (talk) 23:26, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hey, Alex! I'd probably say it's unnecessary in the infobox. Infoboxes are meant to summarize the most important bits of information about a person (though how effectively any individual one may do that will vary, of course), and I'm not sure that a grandson is so important that it warrants inclusion there. I'm sure there's a place for that bit in the article somewhere, just maybe not in the infobox. Make sense? Writ Keeper  03:10, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
