Re:

Hi Gaijin - like all of us, I'm sure you're pretty busy, but maybe you could answer my question on Talk:Homosexuality and Roman Catholicism? My comment said: But the source also specifically discusses that culpability could be increased. Since no examples of circumstances are provided for either, they would seem to cancel each other out as a sort of hedging of bets. Can you be clearer about how you'd like to concisely get across the document's point here? - that people arguing that acting on an innate orientation isn't sinful are wrong because the action is the result of free choice?Roscelese (talkcontribs) 16:08, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

OH, FYI: I have that talkpage watchlisted, so no need to ping me. I just pinged you because I didn't know if you were watching it or not; let me know if it's unnecessary! –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 16:31, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Could You have a new look

Could You have a new look at the LB (car ferries) please. And if possible could You be so kind to remove the "essay" stuffs at the top. CheersBoeing720 (talk) 00:54, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Please specify which sources that should be self made !? Please Boeing720 (talk) 01:01, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

To be clear, I am not saying they are made by you personally, but that they are not published by reliable sources.
http://www.faktaomfartyg.se/ is the personal website of Mike Asklander
http://kommandobryggan.se/ is the personal website of "Mats"

Gaijin42 (talk) 01:11, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

What's wrong with those sources then ? They appear to be large collections, including photos. It's also strange how You change the topic of complaint from time to time. Boeing720 (talk) 01:34, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Specificate, please !

You just cannot throw "possible shit" on any article where English sources are difficult to find. And You must most certainly specify what You "fear" is unsafe. Here - or in the article. I ask You humbly once again. Boeing720 (talk) 01:31, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

It has nothing to do with sources being in english. It has to do with being a WP:RELIABLESOURCE. the two websites you have used in the article are clearly WP:SELFPUBLISHed as they are personal websites of random individuals. We have no idea if they are accurate or not. If there are books, magazines, documentaries or newspaper articles published about the topic those are the type of source wikipedia prefers and in many cases requires. The tags on the page are to warn people that those are not the type of sources used in the article, so they should be cautious about relying on the information there. That is all. I don't see much humility in your statement. You you cannot discuss the issues in a polite manner, you may not post on my page any more. Gaijin42 (talk) 01:58, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Micke Asklander & www.faktaomfartyg.se

www.faktaomfartyg.se must indeed be concidered as a good source http://www.sjofartstidningen.se/bloggar/sjofartsbloggen/antligen-flyter-fakta-om-fartyg-igen/ Here is even an large article in "Sjöfartstidningen" (The Seafaring News[paper]). His site is better than many books. Boeing720 (talk) 02:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Christianity and Sexuality. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Christianity and Sexuality/Evidence. Please add your evidence by February 2, 2015, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Christianity and Sexuality/Workshop. Thanks !

Although I must admit to have felt some frustration by Your thorough criticism on the LB (car ferries) article, in retrospect I can now say that it helped to improve the article. I don't concider it "a masterpiece" but atleast better than it else would have been. Please note, this is honnestly ment. Cheers Boeing720 (talk) 22:41, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Gaijin42! Homosexualitatis problema

What do you think of the concrete non-hypothetical proposal that Wikipedia should say that the letter states that homosexual sexual activity by homosexual persons is not always entirely compulsive and inculpable?

(By the way, as you already know, I am not convinced that the letter does speak of occasions "when" (not just an "if") homosexual activity by homosexuals is the result of deliberate choice. It rules out the idea that there is never even an atom of responsibility, the idea that the activity/behaviour is "always and totally compulsive". I suppose one can argue that this implies there are occasions when the activity is indeed deliberate, but I think the letter does not actually state that. We can perhaps agree to disagree on that question.) Esoglou (talk) 21:49, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

It does more than imply deliberate (having ruled out compulsive, the alternative is what?), but perhaps you meant to say "implies not deliberate". Gaijin42 (talk) 21:57, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. That explains the problem. What the letter rules out is that the activity/behaviour is "always and totally compulsive". What alternative is there? For one, that the activity/behaviour is sometimes totally compulsive and so not at all deliberate. For another, that the activity/behaviour is always partially compulsive and so not fully deliberate. It rules these out no more than it rules out that the activity/behaviour is on some occasions not at all compulsive and is instead the result not just of choice but of deliberate choice, a statement that it makes no more than it makes these two, or others. Esoglou (talk) 07:33, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
I thought your reply was to what I put in parenthesis, but perhaps it was (also) in response to my main question. I won't bother you further. Esoglou (talk) 20:29, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Very upset

I just finished reading the 100 page Ferguson Police Department Report [1]. Oh boy, all I can say is that I am terribly upset after reading it; it is inconceivable that that kind of policing is happening in 21st century America. And to think that these patterns of police behavior were the context of the altercation resulting in that tragedy, oh-my-god. I have removed the article from my watchlist because there is no chance in hell I can remain calm and have a civil conversation about "nuances". I'll rejoin the discussions there when I regain some composure. - Cwobeel (talk) 15:30, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes, there is quite a bit to be upset about in that report. But also many things can be true at the same time. The patterns in Ferguson could be (are) horrible (including perhaps even actions by Wilson in general, or perhaps even in the initial stages of the encounter where he was hassling them for jaywalking/walking while black) while simultaneously the Brown events (while absolutely tragic) being justified by someone who just robbed a store, assaulted the owner, and then assaulted a cop as backed by multiple witnesses and evidence. Its pretty clear here that the initial media narrative was very far off, and its going to take effort to overcome the cognotive dissonance for those that are invested in that narrative to deal with the real facts and evidence - you are in good company. The stories are not mutually contradictory. Perhaps A contributes to B in some way, and certainly A contributes to the mistrust/reaction by the wider community. But there is no actual conflict there. Take a break if you desire, we will be waiting for you when you get back :)
I don't believe the narrative was off; not after reading that report. Whatever happened, at least it has brought these issues up to the surface and there may hope for the necessary changes for a better future for Ferguson's residents and similar communities. In one sense, I see both Brown and Wilson as victims of an extraordinarily fucked up system that was staked against both of them. A tragedy indeed. - Cwobeel (talk) 16:40, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Robbery in Michael Brown Case

The use of the word "allegedly" is justified, as Brown was never convicted of the convenience store robbery. Whatever 'consensus' drew the conclusion that he was the perpetrator is irrelevant, and to suggest otherwise is journalistically unsound. JoyGrenade (talk) 20:14, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Just curious if you've caught wind of the project modification going on to compartmentalize the Gun Politics articles into their own Task Force? There's a discussion here. The idea is to give the articles there own area similar in nature to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Maritime warfare task force and the WP:GGTF in principle, thus let the main project focus on scholarly technical and historical articles that is predominantly covers. I'm getting ready to message each of the active project members to ask them to read the proposal and comment if they'd like. --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 04:55, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Committed identity

I noticed you got a committed identity. I've seen these before and wondered why a person might get one and whether it would have any value for me. Why did you get one, and why now? (if you don't mind sharing) Lightbreather (talk) 16:41, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Lightbreather I've had the identity for some time actually (I added it after I stumbled across some admin who had one), I just added the PGP key tho. In most circumstances the value of the identity is negligible, its just a way to prove that you are the owner of the account if it gets hacked or whatnot. PGP is more useful, as it allows me to a) send messages that are signed in a way that anyone can confirm were really from me (or at least from whoever posted that key), and b) allow others to encrypt messages to send to me that only I can read. Gaijin42 (talk) 23:28, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

I have added a section on the Kng v Burwell re mandates

I have gone into some detail on why it is incorrect to,say that the mandates would be "overturned" if King is reversed. Fewer people would be subject to the individual mandate (affordability exemption) and the employer mandate coild only be enforced against employers those with employees living in states with their own exchanges. As it seems you are an expert on this, what EDC spring assisted knife would you recommend? (small, light, and durable) - Cwobeel (talk) 21:22, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Cwobeel The main difference between them (besides aesthetics, blade shape, etc which are personal preference) is how the spring mechanism works. Everyone has their own patented one. I've used two, Buck_Knives' and Columbia River Knife & Tool's I highly prefer CRKTs. Buck's is a coiled spring, and I've had to send it in for repair twice for getting gummed up/broken. Fortunately Buck has an unlimited lifetime warranty for that kind of stuff.

CRKT's is literally just a bent piece of metal from the frame putting pressure against the blade. The back of the blade is shaped so that when the knife is closed, the pressure is holding it shut, but as you open it the bar slides across a curve on the blade and eventually the angle switches to pushing the knife out. I suppose eventually it will break off from metal fatigue, but in the meantime, its foolproof and maintenance free.

The one I carry every day is a CRKT Vertex [2] unfortunately it has been discontinued, but can still be found at some sporting goods stores inventory. Any CRKT knife that uses the "Outburst" assist should work the same way (and it should be easy to see visually that it works that way).

Like I said past that is personal preference on blade size/shape, if you want serrations or not, if you want fancy wood or engraving, etc. I personally think serrations are wasted unless you know ahead of time you are going to be mainly cutting cords, because they reduce your cutting surface, make it impossible to carve, and are much harder to sharpen. Blade shape is a whole big discussion on its own with the right answer probably being "it doesn't matter for 99% of tasks, and if it did matter, you already know enough to chose correctly" Gaijin42 (talk) 21:54, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

BTW, other knife makers out there all have something similar, Gerber has assisted openers etc,. I just don't have any personal experience with their tech. They may be just as good or even better. Gaijin42 (talk) 22:02, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
The CRKT Vertex 1040 is just the size and style that I was looking for. On ebay for less than fifty bucks. Thanks for the info! [3] - Cwobeel (talk) 22:04, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Now if you get a proper sharpener, serrations are easy! (I like the products from Spyderco and WorkSharp for sharpening and have an article due out in the next isue of OFF GRID dedicated to sharpeners). If price is not a factor, I like the assisteds from Kershaw and Zero Tolerence. ZT approaches a custom knife in terms of steel quality, fit and finish and other materials, but not price, although they are pricier than the basic production models. If price is a factor go with CRKT, I have 2 of the Onion assisteds (don't remember the names, but they were gifts from Ken and very close in design to his customs) and reccomend them highly.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 22:10, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Just ordered the CRTK, $33 at http://www.mytoolsforyou.com/ - Cwobeel (talk) 22:14, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Cwobeel As Mr Grey found out (or would have found out?) the laws on these knives are somewhat arbitrary and vary from place to place. Don't take this knife to New York City (or ANY locking pocketknife for that matter, even if it isn't an assisted opener). Double check your cities laws to make sure you aren't going to get busted. That said, I've never been questioned about it anywhere. Also in some states any knife in the pocket counts as a concealed weapon, so you may need to get a carry license depending on your local jurisdiction. Gaijin42 (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Good points, thank you for the warnings... - Cwobeel (talk) 22:27, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Just checked, it is against my local laws to carry it on my pocket or clipped to my belt, but OK if I carry it on my tool bag. Go figure. In any case, my use is for my hobby, and I can carry it on my tool bag. - Cwobeel (talk) 22:31, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Mike_Searson, yes, serrations are not difficult to sharpen with the right tools and skills, but you have to admit its a lot harder than "slide it across this piece of metal/rock a few times". I lusted after a WickedSharp system for a while, but decided I couldn't justify it. I like Ken's stuff. I tried to convince my wife to let me buy the onion Shun chef's knife but she wasn't having any of it for $200+. But I'm on the waitlist for a custom Skookum camping knife tho that she doesn't know about ;)Gaijin42 (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Wicked Edge? I would not reccomend them to anybody, aside from their attitude, for that price you can get a belt grinder! Ken's WorkSharp sharpener is reasonably priced and you can add a tool head to do axes, chisels, etc for around $70. The Shun knife is amazing, I got mine for $70 at the factory about 10 years ago as a closeout. But yeah, I like serrations on some knives although the one I carry the most is an Emerson MV-3 (Viper 3) and its a zero bevel chisel grind with no serrations.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 22:55, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I have several CRKT knives that I use for work and day to day chores, but I love, love, love my Ken Onion edition Kershaw. I shopped around and got a fairly good deal on it. It helps that I wanted the Tanto blade, combo straight edge with serrated section. Not a popular choice, so plenty of them around. Personally I prefer Tanto blades for shear practicality that there is more metal than a drop point so you'll more sharpenings thus longer life. My 2 cents... --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 02:02, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

I guess I opened a can of worms . I have been reading online on the subject, and was not aware that there is such a universe of knives, and so much interest and passion about them. Amazed. - Cwobeel (talk) 04:21, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Cwobeel did your knife come yet? Gaijin42 (talk) 16:14, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Unfortunately no. Got an email from the warehouse saying that it is discontinued and they refunded me. Trying my luck on eBay... - Cwobeel (talk) 17:20, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Gaijin42, is this evidence as ridiculous as it looks? Viriditas (talk) 06:57, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Utterly ridiculous. - Cwobeel (talk) 14:29, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Lightbreather I'm quite disappointing in this. I categorically deny that the people in question are me, and I thought we had largely moved past our issues. the fact that you recently accused someone else of also being godsy is a sign that are just lashing out without any actual evidence. Your continual position that anyone who disagrees with you, or shares a common interest is either a sock or part of a cabal is one of the core reasons you are in the situation you are in.
I had largely refrained from piling on into the ArbCom, providing only 3 pieces of evidence that I thought were important and that would not be covered by others, and 2 of them defended you. On the other elements, I have held back out of sympathy for your situation. This is a decision I am now strongly reconsidering. Gaijin42 (talk) 14:26, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Gaijin, I am surprised to hear that you were a sockpuppet. You seemed so nice. It was clever of you to have no connections whatsoever to your sock. Heh. Very clever. Capitalismojo (talk) 21:12, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Ai6pg My ability to comment on this is somewhat limited due to a sanction placed against me, but your addition was not encylopedic. I happen to largely agree with you politically (probably), but wikipedia needs to be written in a neutral fashion, and with WP:RELIABLESOURCES backing the content. a random wordpress blog is not reliable, and the information added was added in a non-neutral, editorial/opinion blog style. In general the right of self defense argument is covered throughout the article, in particular the section on blackthorn. Gaijin42 (talk) 00:42, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Due to the sanction against me, I will not comment further on this issue/content, but if you think something is missing in the article, please build WP:CONSENSUS for it on the article talk. Gaijin42 (talk) 00:44, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

So what is this class of knife used for? It doesn't look much good for fishing, carving, or combat. Whittling? ―Mandruss  22:50, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

General utility. Can be used for hunting or fishing, but there are probably better dedicated choices. Since I've started carrying (about 15 years now) I find a use for it probably every other day that normally id be running to the silverware/utility drawer, or macguyvering a paperclip or something. I have probably 10 knives that I swap out depending on what I think im doing that day, or what I'm wearing. sometimes for value (don't take the expensive ones where I might lose them) sometimes for looks, sometimes for function (take the skeletool if I might want screwdriver or pliers) etc. Gaijin42 (talk) 22:54, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
I use it for my hobby. Very useful to have on you when you need a knife that can be opened with one hand. - Cwobeel (talk) 23:04, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
I carry this in my bag [8] but sometimes all you need is a simple, sharp knife to do the job. - Cwobeel (talk) 23:07, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
