Help regarding WAM Postcard
Hello, Narutolovehinata5. I am a participant of WAM2020 from both English and Bengali Wikipedia and eligible for getting postcards from both of them. I recieved MediaWikiMessageDelivery Message about the google form and have filled up once (following the link in Bengali Wikipedia). Do I have to fill it again for enwiki? Thanks in advance. - @Meghmollar2017: Honestly I am not the best person to ask about this given that I was only a judge and not an organizer. It would be best to ask SuperHamster or Sky Harbor as they are the organizers. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 03:23, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Madoka Kaname
On 7 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Madoka Kaname, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when designing the character Madoka Kaname, Ume Aoki used Yuno, the protagonist of her manga series Hidamari Sketch, as a basis? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Madoka Kaname. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Madoka Kaname), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I do not know if you already know this, but I wrote an alternate hook for my DYK on Morning Star (1862 ship). A lot of people have told me that the second hook is a lot more interesting. Thank you for your time. Scorpions13256 (talk) 17:53, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

The article Shiroisuna no Aquatope has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
WP:TOOSOON, looking for this (under the Japanese name) produces very few results.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 09:52, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Template:Did you know nominations/Mapuche polygamy
I saw you closed Template:Did you know nominations/Mapuche polygamy. I would like to ask you to open it again. From the biggining I noticed the reviewer had a negative attitude towards me and said explicitely that " I would like to have another author that assume good faith and neutrality address this DYK nomination.". As such it would be fair for the article, and for me, to have another reviewer. In the last reply SnowFire proposed another hook:
- "that Mapuche polygamy was an area of dispute that complicated Christian missionary attempts to the Mapuche people during the colonial era of Chile?"
which I thought was good, but was not considered. Sietecolores (talk) 14:23, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- I have to note that SnowFire did agree with the proposal to close the nomination, which I took into account when closing the nomination. Admittedly I'm unfamiliar with the topic and I didn't take a good look at the article, but Curry's arguments as to the issues with the sourcing and accuracy of the article appear to be convincing. I do have to note that you did not leave a message on the nomination stating that you were fine with SnowFire's hook, but even if it were to be considered, the issues regarding sourcing and accuracy would still need to be addressed. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- As explained in the DYK nomination the whole handling of the issue by Curry was bad faith/biased or simply ignorant. Since when do images from a book need to be sourced? Which is the correct place to proceed with this case? Sietecolores (talk) 14:39, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- I am reading through the nomination page again and nowhere was CurryTime7-24 assuming bad faith about the article and in fact they even detailed in great length that they thought you were knowledgeable about the subject, and that their issues mostly lied in the accuracy and availability of sources. If anything, the one who was assuming bad faith here is you, as you were calling them "ignorant" or "having a negative attitude" when in fact they took great lengths to be as neutral as possible. As a DYK editor who has experienced commenting and reading on nominations that stall or even get rejected due to inaccurate wordings or neutrality concerns, it is very important that any hook that deals with potentially controversial ethnic or religious aspects has spot-on accuracy and is strongly backed by sources. The original hook, and potentially even the suggested new one, would be on a one-way ticket to WP:ERRORS if the nomination was approved in its current state. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:49, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- I agree with Narutolovehinata, Sietecolores. Like I said in the DYK nomination page, not every article is suitable for DYK. It's a cool bonus if it's selected, but it going to DYK is not required or mandatory, and a reviewer raising concerns (like CurryTime did) is them doing their job, not showing bad faith. This is an article on a sensitive and potentially controversial subject - it's not going to go on DYK without really firm backing. A single PhD thesis is not enough. SnowFire (talk) 15:47, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- This: "Worse of all, it poses what appears to be the author's personal opinions as objective facts." is a grave accusation that is unacceptable in Wikipedia where we assume good faith. CurryTime7-24 was toying and spreading the idea I am distorting facts to fit my "personal opinions". I raised this concern from the very beginning [1], and asked for another reviewer. Sietecolores (talk) 16:24, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm going to jump in and respond because I keep getting pinged on this. The claims by Sietecolores about my intentions, "bad faith," etc. are, in a way, reflective of the problems with this DYK nomination. Whether by accident or otherwise, a lot of their claims, upon closer investigation, are misleading.
- 1.) I never said anything of the kind they claimed above, much less "explicitly." What I did say (and is publicly available to anybody curious about this whole exchange) was: "I’d like to add with some relevancy to this discussion that Sietecolores please behave more civilly and refrain from making personal attacks. I do not doubt that they may be knowledgeable, that they mean well, and care passionately about this topic. But their combative behavior is against their own interests as it will make other editors disinclined to want to help or cooperate with them. Again, another fluent Spanish speaker is welcome to review the aforementioned thesis. Maybe they’ll disagree that its methodology is obscure and flawed, that the author’s grasp of grammar leaves something to be desired." Far from "admitting" anything, my remarks were an invitation to seek outside opinions from other editors in order to avoid the bad optics of taking a decision on this nomination alone. In fact, they now have two more editors who agree with my reservations about this DYK.
- 2.) While they did raise concerns about my judgment initially, they also were satisfied with having me review their DYK: "As written above, I am addressing most of the issues CurryTime7-24 is concerned about But I will accept he/she being the reviewer here." I did not paraphrase them, by the way. This is a verbatim quote I copy+pasted from the archived discussion on this DYK. They can please look it over in case they do not believe me.
- 3.) SnowFire didn't exactly "propose" a new hook, but rather was illustrating a point to you about DYK hooks needing to be accurate and conforming to WP:NOR standards.
- 4.) I stand by my statements on the main source of this article: it's simply not well written or researched. Leaving aside its orthographical and grammatical errors, run-on paragraphs, and generally unpolished writing style, what really bothered me was that it often presented claims as facts; yet upon closer examination, one finds that the author's conclusions were more specious than they seem to believe. The issue of polyandry, for example, is the one that sticks out the most in my mind. It seemed to me as if the author's zeal and enthusiasm on this point led them to rely on what were, at best, folk or urban lore as the basis for their "truths." Nowhere in the thesis is any evidence (i.e. verifiable documentation) ever presented to the reader, despite the author's insistence that this phenomenon not only existed historically, but continues to exist. In fact, the thesis itself undermines the author's argument by presenting various quotes from Mapuche people who view polyandry as antithetical to their culture. One person cited in the thesis emphatically rejected the existence of the practice among his people: "No, porque siento que no tengo ningún antecedente al respecto. Difícil que ella tenga un antecedente, no... esa cuestión es antinatural, lo más antinatural del mundo." ("No, because I feel that I don't have any precedents to this respect. It would be difficult for there to be a precedent, no... this matter is against nature, the most against nature in the world.") Whatever "evidence" is presented about this practice is, again, basically hand-me-down folk tales about people long ago. On page 296, the author presents a series of three quotes from Mapuche to whom she directed questions about polyandry among their people. Their replies invariably answered in Chilean dialect that although a family relation had mentioned to them about other people engaging in this practice, that they themselves had no personal knowledge and could not confirm. I'm not arguing against the possibility that such a practice may have occurred. The problem is that there exists no verifiable documentation. No records, no first-hand written accounts, nothing which could reasonably said to constitute the kind of proof needed to solidify claims to the contrary in a Wikipedia article, let alone in a DYK mention. I find it troubling that they've consistently misquoted me and others; these tendencies are also, unfortunately, all too apparent in their manner of sourcing claims in this article. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:33, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

DYK question
Hi. It looks like your DYK suggestion got archived before I got a chance to reply. In general we don't encourage students to nominate their work for DYK (although there are a few classes that do so regularly with quite a bit of success). From time to time there's a class that ends up thinking they are supposed to nominate their work for DYK (in at least one case I remember it being because the instructor misunderstood the DYK process). I try to close quick-fail noms, but I don't always get to them quickly enough. I'm never sure what to do with incomplete untranscluded noms.
Asking students to tag their DYK noms might have the unintended effect of making more students think they should nominate their work for DYK. I plan to revise a lot of our training material for students this summer. I would like to create a way to encourage good work to go to DYK while weeding out all the unsuitable submissions. If I come up with any feasible plans, I will definitely run it past the DYK regulars. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:16, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

- What do you mean? Do you want monthly archive pages (so /Archives/2021/January, /Archives/2021/February, etc)? Do you want it to move things to the archive every month? Do you want to archive things that are a month old? It's currently set to create yearly archive pages (/Archives/2019, /Archives/2020, /Archives/2021), just as you have now. New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021
Hello Narutolovehinata5/Archives,
Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:32, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Asian Month Query
If we keep the fountain tool technicalities aside, will converting redirect to mainspace article be accepted as per rules? Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe 17:04, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
Jill Harris
Hello! I have been considering making an article for Jill Harris for some time now. I noticed you currently have the old deleted article in your userspace. If you have no future plans for it, could you move it into my userspace so I can work on it? Thanks. Link20XX (talk) 22:54, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Link20XX: I see. I notice the page was recreated as a redirect a while back, so what I'll do is I'll replace the redirect with the draft and you can take over from there. Thanks for the help! Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:00, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Asian Month again
I tried unsuccessfully to add Luidia maculata with the fountain tool. It is a new article, but it replaces a redirect. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:54, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: I can't remember if converted redirects count as new articles (the rules only explicitly state that expanding even stubs doesn't count as new), but in any case you can add the article to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Asian Month/Submissions for review. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 07:33, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. I have done that, but am not too bothered as to whether it is included. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:56, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
Please review my previously rejected pages for the Wikipedia Asian Month 2021
I have made edits to all following pages that you have rejected earlier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanthoxylum_austrosinense https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanthoxylum_avicennae https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanthoxylum_dissitum
Please review them again. Thanks in advance. AbundantReal (talk) 16:53, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Update (2021-11-15)
For all the aforementioned articles it says that the issues have been addressed ((2021/11/13): Issues have been addressed.).
One of the three articles has been changed into accepted status, thanks for that.
However the following two articles still aren't accepted in the Fountain tool: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanthoxylum_avicennae
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanthoxylum_dissitum
Please accept them.
Kind regards, AbundantReal (talk) 09:59, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
Request
I appreciate your volunteering of time and effort to review this. But because it has become needlessly personalized (check history for removed antagonism), I request that you not review future DYKs I nominate. Urve (talk) 10:46, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- Noted. I apologize for my tone earlier in the nomination. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:48, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Urve: Again, I sincerely apologize for those comments I made earlier and I'll try to avoid them from now on. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:04, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. I trust that you're trying your best, as we all are. There are always "emotional aspects of building an encyclopedia", and we can get carried away. I don't think any less of you - your contributions to DYK make this place better. I just prefer lower stakes and lower temperatures, so as long as you're willing to remember the human component of our discussions, I'm happy to work with you at DYK or elsewhere in the future - consider the request lifted. Feel free to remove this section of your talk - we're on the same page, no need to have this be a yoke. Urve (talk) 11:12, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Articles still unmarked for Asian month
Why mark 308 articles, but not the other five?[2] The count has been stalled for almost two days now. I ask because two out these five articles are mine. I am not sure that it matters since I already have four marked articles. All the same, it seems curious. ThuDauMot (talk) 14:53, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
- I just got a bit busy over the last few days so I haven't had the time to judge things again. Also note that while submissions are now closed, the actual judging is still ongoing so no need to worry. It's getting late over here so I'll take a look at them again tomorrow. Asian Month
hello, I am eligible to receive an asian month postcard as more than 4 of my articles were accepted, what do I have to do next to get it? -Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 17:21, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Have you already accomplished the form? If so, you'll just have to wait. The postcards will take several months to be shipped. For example, I was eligible for a post card in WAM 2020, but it took until July or August 2021 to be shipped a physical card. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:33, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I have not filled out the form yet, could you give me a link to the form? -Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 23:52, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm not sure if it's been made or sent yet. But what happened in previous years was that you'd be sent a Google Form where you'd input your shipping address. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:58, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks n Regards, Saad Ullah Bhatti 22:35, 5 December 2021 (UTC) Are you talking about Shī Chéng? Unfortunately the promotional wording is still there so I can't approve it right now. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:01, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

- The wording is improved but there are still issues that need to be addressed here. Maybe Susmuffin could be of help here as well. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:52, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, Yes he is :) . Saad Ullah Bhatti 04:17, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, As we talked earlier, With your kind efforts; the Article on Shi Cheng has been updated n improved for a long now. Along with you I was also helped out by an experienced editor as well who was referred by you. If you please take a notice on the work and kindly provide your opinion. It would be of a great help. Regards by Saad Ullah Bhatti 17:46, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
There is a mop reserved in your name
You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already! |
- Going by your ORCP, you're long overdue running the gauntlet! -- TNT (talk • she/they) 23:46, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- What they said. Everyone said you'd do great in 2018 so with three years more experience I'd imagine you've only gotten better. — Wug·a·po·des 00:14, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- I would add to this as well, but do explain why your last non-April Fool's AfD was in January 2019. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 00:14, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
Hello, and thank you for the offer. However, I do not have any interest in applying for adminship at this time, not just due to the stresses of RfA, but also because I'm busy with my personal life and I feel that I cannot handle the responsibilities involved with the tools. Also, I try to avoid drama boards like the plague unless absolutely necessary, so yeah ;) As for the AFD things, I have sort of retired from doing deletion nominations as I'm mainly focusing on DYK work now, so I just don't really have the time to participate in deletion discussions anymore. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:43, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Understandable, but I do hope you'll reconsider in the future! -- TNT (talk • she/they) 00:44, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Fair enough on all counts, but you do have my support should you reconsider. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 01:19, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think you would be perfect. We could always use another helping hand with DYKs... Don't be afraid to ask for some nominators who can get you started down the path. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 03:27, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
DYK for Rico Sasaki
On 9 December 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Rico Sasaki, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Rico Sasaki (pictured) beat 9,000 other auditioners to play the title role in a Japanese production of Annie in 2008? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rico Sasaki. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Rico Sasaki), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi
how are you @Narutolovehinata5: can help me and review 1 and 2 please and what is your opinion, ? --My Name is Aslan (talk) 13:32, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, and thanks for the message. I don't really do AfC reviewing anymore, but I can say that right now either article is ready for mainspace just yet, since both are in need of copyediting for grammar and tone. If you want, you can ask another editor for help in copyediting the pages so that they'll eventually be ready. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 13:35, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you for the offer but as a general rule I don't really work on articles outside my main interest areas anymore (meaning Japanese pop culture), so I won't be of much help to you at the moment. All I can do right now is give you advice, which is to ask for a copyedit from an experience copyeditor. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 13:46, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Do you know an editor interested in journalists who can help? Thank you--My Name is Aslan (talk) 13:47, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Not sure if I can be of much help there unfortunately. You may have better luck asking WT:JOURNALISM or WT:TURKEY in this case. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 13:54, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
