Help needed

I know that you will consider an RfA at the end of the year and you were talking that you'll have few GA or FA before going for it. I was thinking to promote this article, Ahmedabad for GA status and need a lot of help. I m doing it on my own so far (started yesterday), only did the intro paragraph since. I need help from some experienced editor perhaps will you assist me to promote it for GA status? Yasht101 12:04, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Yash. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll take a look and see what I can do. Yunshui  12:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

RE Louis Cole article you made

Hey Yunshui, Its me! (Louis Cole) I was tempted to update some of this page with more fascinating insight to me life, other than this last few months. If you ever want to get some more info, i'd appreciate a broader article. I can link to other newspaper articles on other projects and activities I've been upto. Please feel free to email me louis_cole@hotmail.com or facebook me http://www.facebook.com/louiscole

Thanks :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Louiscole (talkcontribs) 12:51, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Louis. Beyond creating the article (and adding some references to prevent its deletion last week) I haven't had much to do with it - sorry to say so, but I'm not actually especially interesting in bug-eating. If you can provide sources for more information, that would obviously be useful; the best approach (since you'd obviously have a conflict of interest problem if you edited the article yourself) would be to add the sources to the article's talkpage. Uninvolved editors can then assess and make use of them. The page is on my watchlist, so I'll probably glance at it from time to time, but I doubt I'll be doing any more substantial work on it. Yunshui  12:58, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Think before you edit

You reverted my edits here without any explanation. You appear to have perceived them as vandalism, or "unconstructive edits", as the generic warning template you posted on my talk page refers to them as. This is not the case; the article in question is riddled with incorrect statements, and broad-sweeping changes are needed. A blanket reversion smacks of intolerance towards IP editors such as myself. Your edit also removed several links, grammatical corrections, and unsourced and blatantly incorrect statements – perhaps you need to consider the whole edit before reverting any part of it. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.101.76 (talk) 13:15, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Yes, you're right - that was a mistake, and I'm sorry for not spotting it and going back to self-revert. My apologies. I'll remove the automated warning from your talk page. Yunshui  13:22, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

destroy biased religious editingKill censorship (talk) 12:17, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Mundane factual material pertaining to Tacitus on Christ, Annals (Tacitus) and Josephus on Jesus lasted for years on Wikipedia until a Roman Catholic Fundamentalist editor appeared and decided to delete certain material, and I am a vandal because I want to restore it. Kill censorship (talk) 12:22, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia articles should be objective and factual and not indirect religious propaganda that involves the removal of material. Kill censorship (talk) 12:28, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Maybe a vandal, maybe a sockpuppet; either way, repeated mass blanking of sourced material with no discussion is not appropriate. Yunshui  12:29, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

One mundane example, is Wikipedia to censor the fact "The Annals survive only in parts, with only Books 1-4 and 12-15 intact." What threat does this fact pose that it should be censored? And why am I a sockpuppet? Because of this censored fact? Kill censorship (talk) 12:31, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Whole threads were collapsed on Wikipedia Talk Pages because they were disliked by religious fundamentalists. And there was no shortage of cited material meeting guidelines. That was vandalism. Kill censorship (talk) 12:34, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

It's taken me a while but I've got there...

Hi Yunshui

I have wanted to say thank you for a while but one of the drawbacks of being a newbie is working out how! I think I've worked it out, if I have you are now receiving my thanks for starting the CReSTeD page. I have edited it, I think it looks pretty good now, thanks to you and the work Voceditenore did tidying up my edits. Apparently I did manage to keep it "both neutral and informative" and even got a "Well done."

I couldn't have done it without your help, thank you. Vocediterone encouraged me to get my name changed too, I feel a little less exposed now!Peskyperson (talk) 07:45, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Licensing

Hello, you have deleted my contribution to the article on GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning)based on the belief that I had inserted copyrighted material. This is, however, not correct. Notice: The inserted material is taken from my manuscript which was published in an an 'open access' article in the journal Annals of General Psychiatry. This means that I am the copyright holder! The regulations for an open access article say that it "permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited". Take a look at the the bottom of the first page if you are in doubt. I understand you have tried to do a good job and I respect you for that, but as copyright holder of this I can do with it what I want. Best regards Monrad Aas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.186.68.71 (talk) 09:56, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Monad. The licence on the PDF [1] looked to me like a CC-BY-ND ("providing the original work is properly cited" would fall under No Derivative Works). That's not acceptable for Wikipedia, which requires all content to be available under a CC-BY-SA licence (allowing others to change, modify and rewrite content, with attribution but without citation). If, however, you are willing to make it available under a CC-BY-SA licence, then I'd be more than happy to see the text reinserted, it contained useful information. To avoid the need to re-release the PDF with an amended licence, you could email permissions-en@wikimedia.org to release the copyright. See donating copyrighted material for more information. Request for Review

Hi, Yunshui. Since last time (cf. St Peter), I've published six new articles at Wikipedia of which two haven't been patrolled yet. It's PureSystems and Uptime Institute. Would you be good enough to review them and mark them "patrolled" if you're fine with them? -- Akolyth (talk) 11:05, 10 June 2012 (UTC+2)

Hi Akolyth. I've patrolled both of these - there are some very minor tone issues (some of the language could be construed as promotional), which I'll try to fix in a moment, but aside from that they seem fine. Nice work. Yunshui  10:19, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Actually, having gone over them in more detail, I've noticed that there are very few secondary sources used - both articles use primary sources - the articles' subjects - for the vast majority of their information. Whilst primary sources are permissable, they should not form the bulk of an article's references. I've therefore also tagged both articles as needing additional sources. Yunshui  10:33, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Yunshui. I'll have another look at both articles and see how to improve them a little bit according to your advice.-- Akolyth (talk) 13:30, 11 June 2012 (UTC+2)

I've just finished some work on the two articles. Do you now think that there are enough of secondary sources? -- Akolyth (talk) 17:00, 11 June 2012 (UTC+2)

Let's see... for PureSystems: Wired Cloudline is sponsored by IBM, thus not independent=not reliable. ZDNet looks okay, I think. RedBooks is an IBM site, not independent, not reliable. DancingDinosaur is a blog, thus unusable by virtue of being user-generated. ChannelBiz seems acceptable. Obviously IBM.com isn't independent, but ITJungle looks legit. You've three reliable, independent, in-depth sources; that's minimal, but sufficient. I won't go through all the sources in Uptime Institute right now, mainly because I need to go to bed, but at a cursory glance there look to be enough there too. Feel free to remove the {{primary sources}} tags if you want to; I'm off to get some shut-eye. Yunshui  22:40, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Done. -- Akolyth (talk) 8:26, 12 June 2012 (UTC+2)

Automatic archiving of finished talks?

We in de:wp have a template for automatic archiving of finished talks. Is there something available in your version to? Thanks a lot. --TK-lion (talk) 14:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

We have two, which work together; you want {{Archive top}} and {{Archive bottom}}. Put {{archive top}} at the the top of the section you want to close, and {{archive bottom}} at... well, at the bottom, naturally. Yunshui  22:20, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Whoops; I just realised, having now seen your talkpage, that you want talkpage archiving - that's not the same thing. Ignore what I've written above. There are a number of ways to archive your talkpage; I use an automated bot, myself. If you want to do it manually, add {{talk archive}} to the top and bottom of the archived page, and put an {{archivebox}} or {{archive banner}} template on your main talkpage. Hopefully that's more helpful; more information can be found at Help:Archiving a talk page. Yunshui  22:27, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere

I think you are right that it should never have been deleted. I added a bit to describe why it is notable and also just a bit more emphasis on what I consider to be the negative aspect of the book. I was trying to be subtle because I think that it needs to be described but not to the point of taking away the value. I did not do a great job - perhaps you could help there.Peter Rehse (talk) 06:42, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

I added one comma, but otherwise your edit seems okay to me (sources would be good, as always, but finding sources for aikido articles is tricky - aikiweb forums aren't really RS!). I've just started an article on Yasuo Ohara, Ratti and Westbrook's teacher - didn't realise he was only a 2-dan at the time. Yunshui  07:34, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes that is the thing. Not hugely knowledgeable in his own right - almost the perfect foil for layering on your own ideas. Basically what they are accused of. Good idea to start the Yasuo Ohara.Peter Rehse (talk) 07:41, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

CVU Academy

Hey, I just saw you sign up as an instructor. It's great to have you! I'm Achowat, and I'm one of the coordinators at CVUA, Welcome. Do you think you're ready to hit the ground running with a student today? User:KATANAGOD has been approved for instruction for a few days now, and we're still looking for an instructor for hir. Again, thanks for helping out. Achowat (talk) 12:39, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

No problem, I'd be happy to help. Yunshui  12:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I assume you've reviewed our documentation, and you're comfortable teaching the "Identify, Restore, Warn, and Report" method of counter-vandalism. If you have any questions, let me know directly. Achowat (talk) 12:48, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I created this page a while back for use with my adoptees; IRWR is precisely the process I described there, so it's nice to know that I was toeing the "official" line even then! I boned up on the CVUA pages before signing up, but if there are any you feel I should pay particular attention to or review, please let me know. Yunshui  12:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Nope, it seems like your sub-page is a good resource. I very much enjoy that you put official in "scare quotes", because, well, we're not Officially Anything. We're just a WikiProject to coordinate counter-vandalism ideas and whatnot. Generally, we like to drop a Graduation template (found with the other CVUA templates at WP:CVUAT) once a student has received Rollback. Since your student already has Rollback, The Academy will leave to your best judgment as to when your student should be considered a "Graduate". Achowat (talk) 13:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
If he's good enough for the admins at RFPE, he's good enough for me; I'm happy to take him on as a post-grad student. One pertinent point; KATANAGOD seem to want to work with Huggle - I don't use Huggle myself, preferring a tag-team TW/GLOO approach, so I won't be much use to him in that respect. I've left a note on his talkpage offering my services with that caveat. Yunshui  13:06, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
And feel free to direct hir to WP:CVUAQ if s/he has specific questions, but direct coaching would be inappropriate. Every instructor (including you) should Watchlist that page to provide rapid-response to any Counter-Vandalism issues that may arise. Achowat (talk) 13:22, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi Yunshui, I'm the other co-coordinator along Acho and I wanted to welcome you. I noticed that you graduated Katana from the academy, while he was an inactive on the enroll page. I wouldn't have done that because if he remained inactive for three days we would have taken him off the list without having to graduate him. Just a heads-up, no big deal. My only recomendation now is for you to watchlist the enroll page, the status page, and our combinded talk page. Happy editing and welcome to the academy! Dan653 (talk) 16:29, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I think the issue isn't "We would have dealt with him some other way" but "We could have dealt with him in a better way". It's really our own fault (Dan and I and the other Instructors) for not having a set "This is what Graduate means" policy in place. That's definitely something we should do a better job of explaining. Cheers! Achowat (talk) 17:10, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry Dan, I was following Achowat's advice above. We should really have some clear criteria for graduation - rollback is an obvious indication of community trust and so would suffice, but then some students with rollback may want tuition in the automated tools as well - I had rollback for ages before getting stuck into Twinkle, and later Igloo. Perhaps a separate "post-grad" course in tool use might be appropriate, beyond the basic IRWR process? Yunshui  07:24, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Request for page protecion

Hello, Yunshui. I am new to Wikipedia and need a little help. Could you please protect the page IBM zEnterprise System‎. As I see it, a superfluous and non-constructive edit war with TreyGeek (talk) might arise and should be preempted. It would be great if you could help settle this issue. The discussion can be found on my talk page. -- VictorVautier (talk) 16:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Victor. Much as I appreciate the vote of confidence, I'm not an admin, so can't protect the page for you. The correct way to go about this, if you haven't already (I've not checked), is to file a request at Request for page protection. What I can do is watchlist the page and keep an eye on it, which I shall. Yunshui  07:14, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Having looked at it, this isn't a page protection issue, and protection would not be granted if you filed a request at RPP. What you have here is a basic edit war. I honestly don't know enough about the subject to assess the sources (z9? z10? It may as well be written in heiroglyphics for all I can understand of it), but assuming that the new sources you added with this edit do indeed show that the z9 and z10 were used with zBX, I would expect that User:TreyGeek will be happy to retain the information. Yunshui  07:40, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Apparently, you are right. There have been no modifications of late. Thank you, still. I very much appreciate your offer to help. VictorVautier (talk) 08:53, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Darth Molo

I'll fill you in on this story real quick: Mrlittleirsih, Darth molo's instructor seems to have gone inactive. I have given him two weeks to return or he loses his student, who he has not helped at all. With that in my mind his two weeks ends on June 20th (six days), so if he does not return can I count on you to tenativly take him on? Thanks Dan653 (talk) 23:11, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I'd be more than happy to do so. It'll be a shame if Mrlittleirish has genuinely retired; he was (hopefully still is!) a great editor. Yunshui  07:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I've heard that Irish is at least going to be on break for a while, so could you take him asap, contact darth on his talkpage. Dan653 (talk) 21:56, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

no third party or reliable secondary sources which significantly feature this organisation have been indicated. Importance has not been established. Requesting Editor Assistance

I'm presently stuck in a content dispute with a single user on List_of_scandals_involving_evangelical_Christians#Jason_Russell. I believe that section has multiple issues which I have discussed here on Talk:List_of_scandals_involving_evangelical_Christians#Issues_with_the_Jason_Russell_Section. I see no sign of resolution, and frankly I do not want to be stuck in a tit for tat response on a talk page indefinitely. Hence I'm requesting editor assistance. How do I get back all of the information that you've just deleted

Hello. According to the history of List of State University of New York at Purchase people you have removed everyone that you considered "not-noteworthy". I have been working with the alumni of the college for the past 5 months to bring more awareness to what they are doing and have done. All of the names that you deleted were given with permission and had various links to biographies and current works attached. Now all of that information has been deleted. Where can I get it back? This is inexcusable.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bellaga (talkcontribs) Bellaga (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

The concept of "notability" has a very specific meaning within Wikipedia. All of the names I removed from the list were insufficiently sourced to attest to notability in these terms - personal websites and IMDb entries do not even come close to the sourcing requirements. Per the inclusion guidelines for list entries, all entries on lists need to meet the same requirements as articles would.
It's quite possible that some of the people whose names I removed do in fact meet the notability guidelines - in that case, the appropriate thing to do is write the article first. Once notability is confirmed by the presence of an article, as it is for all of the entries which I left extant, that name can be added to the list. Yunshui  19:09, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Just so I understand correctly, if the alumni that we wish to include do not have wikipedia pages, we will need to create one for each individual alumna/us in order for he/she to be considered notable? I was also confused at the advertising and solicitation WP:ARTSPAM claim that you cited. How did List of State University of New York at Purchase people fit this? Both the College and I are extermely disappointed that this work has been deleted without warning, but we do want to get as much back up as possible. If you could help me create something that is 'wikipedia friendly' and thus won't be deleted, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bellaga (talkcontribs) 13:27, 29 June 2012 (UTC) Bellaga (talkcontribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

That's pretty much the gist of it, yes. I'd be happy to help create articles on some of these people; give me a few names that you think might meet the guidelines (basically, this) and point me to some sources if you know of them, and I'll get started on Monday. As to the ARTSPAM allegation, I apologise if it was unwarranted - it's exceedingly common here for people to add themselves and links to their websites for the purpose of self-promotion, and I assumed that was what had happened here. Yunshui  15:38, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Bellaga, what is your relation to SUNYP? There appears to be some sign of a possible conflict of interest in your pattern of edits to Wikipedia. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:44, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Yunshui, that would be great. I really appreciate your help. I will confirm with my supervisor on Monday and get back to you asap. As for the conflict of interest, I am again confused by the claim. I currently work for SUNY Purchase in various capacities, and assist with alumni outreach. While doing so I thought it would be interesting to highlight that Purchase College has graduated not just successful performing arts students but some well-known Liberal Arts and Science students, also. The fact that almost all of the notable alumni listed on List of State University of New York at Purchase people are from the performing arts departments is misleading. Hence my expansion. Is this a conflict of interest? Thanks again. Bellaga (talk) 17:12, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Took longer than I expected (an illness in the family has kept me away from the keyboard the last few days), but this morning I've created a basic stub for Luis Croquer. Hopefully this will give you an idea of the sort of thing needed to demonstrate notability: note the multiple sources from independent parties, including several newspapers. This level of coverage is about the minimum required for inclusion in Wikipedia.
As regards conflicts of interest, you should be careful in editing articles relating to SUNYaP. The easiest way to avoid conflicts of interest is to post the changes you'd like to see made on the article's talkpage. Uninvolved editors can then make the changes for you in a neutral manner, assuming that they agree with them. Yunshui  07:40, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

The reliable resources

Dear, i am a Joomla Fan and I've just submitted my article to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Joomla-templates/extensions#Install_extension I receive your message that my article lack of reliable resource. I read all the instruction of Wikipedia, but I am in stuck, i can not know what i can found the reliable resources to meet wiki's require. Can you help me and explain me more detail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mobravebits (talkcontribs)

Hi Mobravebits. Much as I hate to say it, if you can't locate reliable, independant sources to support the notability of the Joomla extensions, then we probably shouldn't have an article on them. You could consider adding some of your information to the Joomla article (avoid adding intallation instructions and the like), but the extensions themselves may not warrant a separate page.
