Possible impersonation on Wikipedia

[edit]

On the talk:Rachel Marsden page user:Gordon Walsh claims to be the Managing Editor of the Toronto Sun. user: 70.25.152.39 whose identity is no secret to many of us, claims to have spoken to the real Gordon Walsh who denies ever posting to Wikipedia. Can you please take time out of your busy schedule and phone the Toronto Sun and find out whether this is correct? Thanks. --Cyberboomer 23:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the delay, Cyberboomer. Being in college has been a distraction over the last little while. Would you still like me to get in contact with the Sun? -- user:Zanimum
Yes, thank you. I do want to know whether it is the real Walsh. If it is an impersonator then it benefits Wikipedia to know for sure. --Cyberboomer 21:00, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Waldo

[edit]

If you are notable, why does this Google search for your name turn up no results? Please make your reply on my talk page. -- user:zanimum

Hey man, this is Waldo J. Cartridge, you can call me Woody. Thanks for noticing me. I see that you've discovered that my name does not return any replies on Google. The reason for this is simple, I do not approve of large, dominating companies, especially not in erntertainment. In my boycott of google, I try to make sure there are no results. I also boycott Wall-Mart, Apple, Coca-Cola, and 20th Century Fox. -Woody
That's perfectly fine, there's many people on Wikipedia that are anti-corporation. However, by not turning up a Google result, this mean that none of the 14,000 subscribers to your magazine have ever blogged about it, that no other magazine or newspaper has recommended it, and that you have extensive promotion through posters or the like, surely costing a fortune for such a small-scale publication. That also means no one likes or dislikes your films enough to mention, let alone review them or screen them at small film fests. -- user:zanimum

Yeah, that's probably true. I dont know if anyone really likes what I've been doing or finds me amusing at all. It also helps when your friends hack onto Google on a regular basis. Freaks. -Woody

Hack into Google? Such is nearly impossible. Are you implying they remove results mentioning you? -- user:zanimum

I have no idea how they do it. But anyway, I'm also pretty sure all of my subscribers are far from computer literate. Anyone who had a blog would never look to me for entertainment. By the way, how did you find my site? I'd be interested to know. -Woody

All of your subscribers are far from computer literate? What is the average demo. of your subscribers? People of all interests and walks of life have blogs. I found your profile because it was up for deletion. -- user:zanimum

How much do you think i know about these people? They are mostly friends of my distant family. i have no idea about these ridiculous statistics you demand. And by the way, i was trying to stay polite and seem amused, and i hoped i would not be forced to go down to your level. But all the same, i find myself quickly discovering just the type of person you are. Are you one of theose guys who just hates people and tries as hard as he can to prove everything they say wrong? Are you a major cynic of the human race? Do you trust anyone and maybe every once in a while just go with what they say and keep living? i dont know. -Woody

The point is that I'm actually Emma Roberts, and everyone in Toledo has a tattoo of my face on their left shoulder. -- user:zanimum

Okay, whatever. I don't really get it, but I'm getting the feeling you're just trying to freak me out. Why did you change the heading on our conversation? Do you feel left-out by being labelled as a cynic? The moral of the story here is to treat people more kindly in the future and give humanity the respect it deserves. -Woody

First, you're not "humanity", you're simply an exception. Second, I only give people respect if they treat Wikipedia with respect. You're not. Everything needs to be proven to be real to be included in Wikipedia. Nothing you add about yourself can be proven to be real, just as you can't prove I'm not actually Emma. -- user:zanimum

I do treat Wikipedia with respect. I have created two wonderful pages for Ed Deacy and Live Like You Were Dying as well as helped out the band user:Bombs Away with their own page. I can tell that you are just content on trying to prove me wrong and evil, no matter what the real facts say. That's why you got labelled as a "cynic". But enough about me, this is really about you. I understand you perfectly, you're angry about something else and you want someone different to take it out on. We all get these feelings sometimes, but we need to learn to control them. What happened? Was it a death? A break-up? If you need help I can recommend some great doctors near my hometown. I represent humanity to you. This isn't me. This is about something far more general.

p.s.-I hope you're not that woman, because on your site it says a man's name. If you're confused about where your life is taking you, that's okay, let it out. Personally, I suspect that you made some kind of a lie somewhere in there. Too bad.

Those articles (not pages) were poorly formatted, contained copyrighten lyrics, and NPOV words. They're closer to better now. I'm simply monitoring the quality of Wikipedia, something that often is not coming from you. The Emma Roberts statement was simply to make you realise that, unless everything is referenced to legitimate sources, we must presume it not to be true. -- user:zanimum

Okay, okay. For starters, "Debate Over Sourcing" is pretty much the lamest name I think I've ever heard. I am NOT debataing. I'm trying to help a person who doesn't want help, trying to be a friend for someone who needs a friend. I am NOT arguing. I'm adding. I'm trying my best to stay polite. I know you're a very angry person who is looking for an excuse to get mad at me, and I see that you are frustrated that I refuse to give you that excuse. I can be a stubborn man, and I am most certainly going to be as stubborn as I can for the sake of peace. I refuse to argue over something we can easily argree on.

Next item. Those pages? They were excellent. Just because they were not formatted the way you would have doesn't mean it was incorrect. However, I appreciate the help you have offered in improving the "articles" of things I am interested in. Are you a fan of Tim or Ed? If not, it seems as though by making an article you find unsuitable I have tricked you into checking out things I'm a fan of. Through your hostility, I have forced you to write articles about Ed Deacy and Tim McGraw! Wow! Maybe I should make more articles you don't like.

I noticed that although you were glad to help with Deacy and McGraw, you didn;t improve on the user:Bombs Away "article". Let's be friends. Maybe you can help Bombs Away get its big break.

Woody.

Hun, couldn't you have pretended to be aunt Jul or something? BTW, I'm done the press shot for Aquamarine, should be in TO tomorrow, presuming Susan doesn't need me for anything else. XOXO Emmaroberts 18:09, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pr double bubble measure.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. V (magazine)

[edit]

Hello. When I created an article about a new Finnish magazine V, I saw that you had already created a link to it from Emily Strange back in March 2005. Because the Finnish V has only just started, this can't refer to the same magazine. So I want to ask you for more information about the V magazine that the Emily Strange article refers to. JIP | Talk 11:15, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved your article to V (Finnish magazine), and made V (magazine) into a disambiguation page. I really don't know too much about V myself, I just was researching Emily Strange for the article, and came across a mention of it. Thanks for letting me know, though. -- user:zanimum

Beethoven's Hair

[edit]

Hello. Not sure if you're still going to update the Beethoven's hair page, but seeing that it hasn't been updated with any new content to justify it's existence for the past 10 days, I've taken the liberty of suggestion its deletion. -- KDLarsen 15:31, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Title_Cuisine.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 07:03, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Tom Lantos

[edit]

Thanks for your edits on Tom Lantos. As you seem to be an active and well regarded person in the Wikipedia community, I'd be grateful for your advice on the article. Another user insists on inserting material I believe is both irrelevant and written to reflect negatively on Congressman Lantos, which I have, in the past, removed and replaced with less specific information that I consider less prejudiced against the Congressman. It seems pointless to continue to change the article back and forth--how would you suggest that I resolve the situation? 68.33.74.123 02:02, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm listening, tell me more specifics. -- user:zanimum
The section is "1990-1991 Persian Gulf War" and the user in question is User:Jmabel. Jmabel insists that the section should include the phrase ""Nurse Nayirah" spoke about her experiences at the al-Addan Hospital in occupied Kuwait, and alleged that Iraqi soldiers were killing babies by removing them from incubators. Subsequently, it became clear that she was the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States, and that the story had been a complete fiction." I prefer the phrase ""Nurse Nayirah" spoke about her experiences at the al-Addan Hospital in occupied Kuwait, and alleged that Iraqi soldiers were killing babies by removing them from incubators. Subsequent investigation by members of the media determined that Nayirah's accusations lacked credibility." There is a different article to discuss Nurse Nayirah and I take issue with the 'complete fiction' phrase as it implies some sort of malicious intent. I think that it deserves to be mentioned, but it is a relatively minor part of the Congressman's history. I don't want to change the article back to my phrase because I suspect that it will just be changed again. How would you recommend that I solve the problem? 68.33.74.123 02:44, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully these edits will satisfy Jmabel. I do agree that, while such fiction is terrible if true (something I don't know either way as a Toronto high school student), discussion of it was an overwhelmingly long, and disconnected from his primary biography. -- user:zanimum

Hi Nicholas. I just noticed that you speedy deleted ABSL. May I ask what were your reasons for the deletion? It is definitly not a hoax (as one editor thought) I think an articleI'm don't agree that this should have been deleted. Would you object if I undeleted it. If you still think it should be deleted then it can be sent to AfD. What do you think? Paul August 21:31, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've undeleted it, I just don't see how it could be so uncited on the 'net. Could you try and develop it further, to explain what it is, and why readers should care? It just seems like something for Wiktionary, in it's current state. -- user:zanimum

Thanks Nicholas. I'll see what I can come up with. Paul August 01:32, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries, please?

[edit]

(and yeah, I know you know - but you don't often seem to leave any, if ever...)

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Hi Nicholas, I'm just dropping you a note to say that I've undeleted Steve Strange, which you speedied last month. Although the content at the time was nonsense (I didn't restore that part), it had overwritten a legitimate article. Have a good weekend. Leithp 13:24, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you, but I've been reading alot of your posts and I've noticed the absence of a date & time stamp when you post. I suggest you use four tildas (~~~~) to sign your posts to include the date and time—it can be frustrating to have to check the page history to see when someone posted an edit. Mystery PDFs

What are Image:Quarto v002 en.pdf and friends all about? At the very least, they're appearing in the list of untagged images, and should be labeled so that they don't appear there anymore. Stan 04:47, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They were for the second issue of Wikimedia Quarto, when there was plans to publish the whole thing as a downloadable PDF. I think I moved some to Meta, but then to Commons, so they might be completely spread out. I really don't know what to do with them all, honestly. -- user:zanimum
I marked them as "no license", since that's literally true right now. You can leave them alone and they'll be scrubbed out, or add a GFDL if you prefer (I note the covers don't actually mention a license anywhere on them). Stan 16:12, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use

[edit]

Hi. Since you seem to upload a lot of fair use images, I'd like to remind you that the Fair use page on wikipedia says that it is not fair use to use "an image of a rose, cropped from an image of a record album jacket, used to illustrate an article on roses." Some of the images you uploaded were being used in this way, so I've removed them from the articles. Matt 06:24, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Newby, move mistake

[edit]

Hello. I need some admin assistance. Thanks!

I need to delete the page (that I just created) named Electra (Pleiad), and then move the Electra (pleiade) page to a new title, the same I just created and need to delete: Electra (Pleiad)

I am cleaning up mythology pages, and creating some consistency (upon careful study of the Perseus encyclopedia) in the nomenclature of minor deities and whatnot. I was working on Electra, and I wanted to move her page to a more correct parenthetical title: Electra (Pleiad). Capital P being a proper noun and Pleiad being the correct singular noun. I was creating a Sterope (Pleiad) page and ended up stumbling upon Electra, so I thought I would fix both at the same time. Now I know how to move pages, but this one needs help.

I already moved all the links from Electra (pleiade) to Electra (Pleiad), using the "what links here" page, all links other than a user page talk, which will be redirected anyhow.

Thanks! --gio 08:12, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Project proposal: Wikikernel

[edit]

I'm trying to talk to people who helped contribute to earlier proposals for a Wikimedia seed wiki (by whatever name), and your name is in the list of contributors to m:Wikilabs.

I understand that you are very busy, but this is a proposal that has been languishing on Meta and elsewhere for many, many, many months (years?). I've decided to restart the proposal, give it a little more "flesh" by turning it into a serious proposal, and try to get it up to the state where it might be ready for a formal vote by Wikimedia users.

Any thoughts or comments on this proposal would be significantly appreciated. Thank you for your time in this and all of the volunteer service you provide to Wikimedia projects. --Robert Horning 10:58, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Carr pic

[edit]

Joe Carr has posted twice on the Humanities Reference desk asking us to remove his pic. He says it's from his website, and not public domain, and he doesn't want it displayed in Wikipedia, since he has received death threats. Just wanted to let you know about the situation, you do what you think is right. StuRat 04:08, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The image posted is perfectly in co-operation with fair use laws. He has received death threats, but how is that relevant to us? Hundreds of our subjects have received death threats. We still include them on our site. If he's so scared of people hunting him down, why does he run a website? If you want a private life, releasing materials publicly to anyone and everyone over the internet is not a smart move. If Osama emailed us and asked not to have his picture on our site, would we remove it? What about if the Wiggles said they didn't want their pic on our site, would we remove it? -- Zanimum 14:48, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Anglokurisu

[edit]

Dear Zanimum, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the actions of User:Anglokurisu, who created UKSPI which you voted to delete on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UKSPI. I feel that an administrator should look at the issue, as I do not wish to be the only user commenting on his/her conduct. To date this user has added anonymous votes to the above-mentioned page and spammed several pages with links to the same organisation. I know that this user has added false votes as he/she admitted correcting a link on UKSPI, this link was fixed by IP:172.216.253.2 which is the same IP that made an anonymous vote to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UKSPI page. All the votes that were added anonymously were also Do not delete votes, written with a characteristic broken English, clearly showing they were added by the same person. I removed these votes from the page saying all votes should be made by registered users on a one vote per user basis. After I made this addition a new user appeared called User:Evenstarbabe and added a vote with the same style i.e. Do not delete. This is obviously a sockpuppet of User:Anglokurisu. If you could look into the IP information of this user and generally assist in this matter I would be very grateful. I feel that this user should now be blocked as he/she has consistently tried to abuse Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Thanks - Solar 15:20, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Solar! I've blocked Anglo for one week, based on the fact you did indeed give repeated warnings, and the strong possibility that they created a sock. I've noted the sockiness of the vote by Evenstarbabe on the AfD, and noted the vote shouldn't be considered. I'm tempted simply to speedy delete the article, on the basis that it is too "unstable", a good way to prevent further abuse of Wikipedia by these users. -- Zanimum 15:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would definitely agree with speedy deletion as there has been a clear consensus to delete it, the only objection being from one of User:Anglokurisu's many guises. Thanks for your speedy action on this. - Solar 16:36, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The content you added needs some sources, especially for the big claims (eg, that the board issued no orders to Ward). I found a bunch of old stories in their archives which agree with what you've said, but nothing about the Board saying that they told the newspaper ahead of time that nothing was wrong, or that they told Ward that his company did nothing wrong, etc. — 0918BRIAN • 2006-03-25 17:18

PMS press office

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for dropping in. The pms press contact is going to be me, as I am in charge of all the english and russian PR interface. We'll soon state different users for interfacing with german, spanish and french speakers. BTW, the direct link to my pms page is going to expire soon, since we are almost finished with the interface tranlastion, if the link gets broken just use the stable version, that will be working on the piedmontese interface. In the final main page version there will be a english space on the first page, pointing foreign users to a press/embassy area, from where they'll be able to reach all contacts directly. In the meantime we can use this.

IMPORTANT: in the next months I shall myself be writing an article for an italian newspaper about wiki editions in non-govt languages. May I refer to you to get contacts with press contacts from the arpitan, occitan, sicilian and catalan editions? --Bertodsera 21:00, 29 March 2006 (UTC) pms:Utente:Bèrto_'d_Sèra Stable link will be pms:Utent:Bèrto_'d_Sèra.[reply]

Sure, that sounds great. I'm trying to make the Press contacts list as international as possible, so I'll make these languages my first stops. -- Zanimum 22:08, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
URGENT, our mags will probably publish some announcements about the pms wiki next month. They are in hurry, though, as they close their editions now. A redactor is asking me what image can he print, to add some graphics in the announcement. I suppose the Wiki logo would do it, right? But... where can I get it from? It's got a link under it, so I cannot simply save it. Besides, maybe there is a larger copy, which would give them much more print quality. Let me know. --Bertodsera 09:31, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This link is the main "press photos" section of the Foundation website. They should be large enough files, if not we can provide bigger. Also, if they'd like a quote or two from Jimmy Wales, he always makes sure that he's available for articles about non-English projects. Will PMS Wikipedia be called Wikipedia? Some change the spelling to suit local pronounciations. Also, have you established a translation for "The Free Encyclopedia", so that we can replace the default English logo? -- Zanimum 15:21, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia in Tetum - press contact

[edit]

Following your post in the Tetum WP talk page, asking for an official press contact for the language, I would like to offer myself for this job, as I've been leading the process of creating a Tetum WP since the very beginning. The problem is that my knowledge of the language itself is pretty limited, e.g. it would not be possible for me to answer an interview in Tetum.

Since the creation of the Tetum WP testpage, I've been trying to get Timorese to join in (e.g., sending messages to several Timorese discussion groups, etc.) but, so far, with very limited success.

If it is important to have someone as press contact, and you think it is feasible, for the time being, I can be the "temporary official press contact" and would give up the job, as soon as we could find a native speaker that could do it. What do you thing? --193.126.213.199 08:35, 30 March 2006 (UTC) pt:user:Manuel de Sousa.[reply]

Press Contact for Ripuarian Wikipedia ksh:

[edit]

On ksh:Talk:Houpsick under heading Press contact:

Is there anyone who wants to be the official press contact for this language, in the odd case anyone from the press wants to talk to a contributor to this project? If so, contact me at en:user:zanimum. -- Zanimum 19:07, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Odds are, there will be. I am willing to be a contact for the time being, and shall initiate a voting about an official press contact person/group as soon as my time permits (probably 1st or 2nd week in April)
  • I am preparing a draft press release for all media in the ripuarian area, and few selected global ones, in oder to spread the word and attract contributors. To be accepted by the community, and imho to be distributed asap after
    • the contents of the ripuarian test wiki [2] have been imported. That is 3000+ articles and few dozen help- and community-pages, templates, etc.
    • Some initial and explanatory pages for not-yet-wikipedians have been set up.
-- ksh:User:Purodha aka Purodha Blissenbach 18:47, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would be plenty happy to just choose the contact as you automatically. They generally aren't voted on, simply approved. However, if you wish to run a vote, you are welcome to do so. The Foundation may be able to help with distribution of the release, provided that there is also at least a draft English version. I find that fantastic that there are already so many articles, that's an amazing start to the project. -- Zanimum 22:00, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kofi Annan in Canada Free Press article and The Bramptonian

I've started a discussion on the CFP talk page re: SlimVirgin deleting the Kofi Annan paragraph. [3] You contributed to the passage. Please feel free to let your reasons for the paragraph staying or going be known. Also, please feel free to change my edits to The Bramptonian if you don't like them. --Cyberboomer 00:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Why did you choose to paraphrase the Globe article's title? While this makes it more precise, it makes it harder to research for those wanting to find the reference itself in the Globe database. -- Zanimum 00:37, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I didn't paraphrase it. I copied it from an earlier version of the article that another user had contributed. It never occurred to me to doublecheck the article title, which is actually Year after firing by paper pair help to publish rival. I'll change it right now. --Cyberboomer 00:47, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nicholas. I want to try to clean up the above article. According to the edit history, you started the article, but I'm a bit puzzled as the original text certainly doesn't seem to have been written by an English native speaker. Did you actually write this or has someone been creating articles using your account? Regards, CLW 12:15, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was split off from some other article, created by another person. They were a student at STUT, who was told by a teacher to litter our site with dozens of articles about their institution, some of them copyvios from the institution's website. This may be a copyvio, actually. -- Zanimum 13:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The complaint I had was that you had no citation to back it up. Back facts up with "ref"s, or else there's no way to know its true. The sky is blue, but we still need to reference it. -- Zanimum 22:52, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm attempting to add the cite, please leave the page alone for 5 minutes and stop reverting. Ckessler 22:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:LucyEthel I Love Lucy.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Ms. Travolta did especially mention Rikki Lee, however based on her timing and comments, I presume she did see this entry. I created a page called "Travolta family", which includes her exact list of siblings. -- Zanimum 23:04, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I presume she quashed the claim that Rikki's father Michael was her half brother, did she mention whether he was really a relative of hers and in what way he is related? Arniep 23:09, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, she didn't mention any of the specifics. She mainly was commenting on the removal of her family relationship to John. Statement of purpose and mandate

[edit]

Dear Nicholas, I have entered some info on press contacts. In your requests, and in the introduction of User:Zanimum/Press, could you please add something on purpose and mandate of the request? Thanks. --Eddi (Talk) 20:03, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Could you please state the purpose and mandate of your request for press contacts? Volunteers are being rallied for something they don't know what is. And, although not intentional, this seems to be outside the normal selection procedures for trusted positions in the local wikipedias. Many wikis have already appointed press contacts by community approval, and those should be used here. If some wikis don't have press contacts, they should also be selected locally. Thank you for your consideration. --Eddi (Talk) 13:41, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Nicholas, I believe your press contact initiative is good and I would like to see it work out. However, I think it would benefit from stating the purpose and mandate in each request, plus central places like here, here, and here. --Eddi (Talk) 00:34, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jody Watley redux

[edit]

I know absolutely nothing about the subject and had never heard of her until the dispute erupted.

I can find no satisfactory independent verification that Midori is Jody Watley's sister. I checked many American news indexes going back to 1980 and found only two possible citations, neither of which is conclusive. One of them, oddly, is Playboy. I am very surprised that several reputable news service providers index Playboy. I guess this means some people do read the magazine for the articles. Here is an excerpt: "The album features tracks by Ginger Lynn, Hypatia Lee, Suzi Suzuki and Midori (who is the younger sister of pop diva and Playboy model Jody Watley), among others." No Byline. "Cock rock." Playboy. May 1, 1999, no page number. 157 words. A Columbus Dispatch article repeats the allegation, but without verification. No Byline. "Kid Rock Aims for Elvis-Level Fame in Beloved Genre". The Columbus Dispatch, March 18 1999, no page number. 872 words. The VH1 link claims that Jodi Watley and presumably her sister were born in Chicago but grew up in Los Angeles. Midori's bio claims that she was born in North Carolina.

Is it possible that there are two people named Jody/Jodi Watley? I think the dual spelling of the first name might be relevant. The Wikipedia bio makes no mention of a Playboy appearance, but there seems to be possible substantiation that there is also a Playboy model with the same name.

I hope I'm not stepping on your toes.

Please feel free to continue the discussion on your talk page. I know enough to check here. --Cyberboomer 21:16, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

North Carolina vs Chicago/LA. Why didn't I catch that? So many headaches would I have saved.
That is an interesting concept, that they're two different people. It's quite plausible. Very plausible.
And no, investigate as much as you want. I'd like this settled, and you've done some interesting detective work already. -- Zanimum 23:09, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help, please!

[edit]

Will you please referee the dispute at Talk:Judi_McLeod#Frank I honestly don't understand where SlimVirgin is coming from. If you think she's right, then please say so. I won't be offended.

I can't understand how anybody can edit pages without reading the cited articles.

With all due respect to her, I do have some concerns about her credibility when she posts edit summaries like these:

She claims that Pamela Anderson once appeared in an ad about fur, but who has worn and advertised fur since then. the incident is well known and the animal-rights movement is disgusted by her. [5]

For what it's worth I checked indexes and found no verification to support SlimVirgin's accusations. I did find many citations proving that PA is an animal rights activist, though.

I can only imagine Anderson's reaction if she ever finds out.--Cyberboomer 00:32, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No prob. Yeah, I'm thinking of doing a series of new banners, based on the clean designs. CS press contact

[edit]

Hi. I just returned from easter vacation and found out, that user Nolanus became (?) press contact. Well as soon as I understand the topic, press contact should be primarily a person trusted by community. On this point I have to say Nolanus is not the appropriate on this job. From people I asked nobody knew about his application for press contact, nobody from them (nor me) said him support and I take the risk to say he would have no chance for support by whole community.

On the other hand, the second person, Mormegil, is perfect.

I'd like to ask you, if there is any way to withdraw Nolanus by expressing the oppose opinion of community. If you prefer to have more contacts, I can be, as administrator of Czech Wikipedia, the the press contact instead. In case of need I can ask for support of the community.

If you have any question, feel free to contact me either on english or czech account. Sincerely cs:User:Zirland --Zirland 19:21, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I was worried less than great people would end up being added to the press contact list, through my blind interview process. Do you/the community feel that there is an acceptable backup to Mormegil? -- Zanimum 19:59, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I only wanted to ask, when will be inquiry about press contact for cs.wiki ended (if it will be). --Zirland 05:45, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Afds

[edit]

Hi, you removed the votes of EraserX from the Travolta afds. Can you tell me who this user is a sock puppet of? Thanks Arniep 23:30, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No but look at this user's contribs, and some of their edits. They clearly have some fetish for the Travoltas. -- Zanimum 23:50, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi they have a POV they only John Travolta is really notable in the Travolta family. As that is a perfectly reasonable point of view I have restored the comments. Regards Arniep 23:52, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please can you explain who they are meant to be a sock puppet of? Thanks Arniep 00:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I don't know who they are, but I have the right to express my concern with this user's suspicious edit history. -- Zanimum 01:05, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi it's OK to state the contents of their edit history but it doesn't really make sense to accuse them of being a sock puppet unless you have some idea of who they are the sock puppet of. Arniep 01:08, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Impersonation of Julianna Rose Mauriello on Wiki

[edit]

Why are you encouraging this impersonator on Wiki? User juliannarosemauriello is not the real Julianna Rose Mauriello!!! If you want to check call her agent Nancy Carlson at 212.307.1882 and ask!

And why was the entry for the Newburgh Swim Sharks removed without going through the proper removal procedures?

Why are records of the Julianna posers changes being deleted? Even if this really was her, do celebrities get special privlidges on wikipedia? Birdflu2006 02:13, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look, even if she isn't real, she's been the only one acting properly. It was properly removed, with {{prod|Vanity}}. Celebrities do not get special priviliges on Wikipedia. However, some posted a.) personal information b.) about a minor c.) who is a known target for, lets say "self-satisfying" men. Also, don't say "on Wiki"; it's Wikipedia. -- Zanimum 12:08, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So its okay to impersonate someone just if Wikipedia thinks they are acting properly? And I dont think "everyone" was acting improperly. The photo that is still up on her page is not cleared by copyright. And just so you know one admin finally caught on and banned the username. Maybe this is because he also noticed that on April 22 the user claiming to be the real Julianna was posting up a storm on the same day she was in New York attending the Daytime Emmys? hu press contact

[edit]

Hello,

Just giving you the feedback that I have received your notice about (still) being listed as press contact, and yes, I still function. :-) I personally answer some of the requests and forward the others to responsible editors. Just got a request to talk about Wikipedia's history on a conference (Web 2.0, which is some pretty stupid way to tell "people finally got involved", but still true), and sometimes newspeople ask for data or explanations.

I cannot promise press releases though. I asked fellow editors a few times, and got help, but people usually likeediting more than tendering PR. :-) I'll keep in mind to keep you foreigners :) up to date.

Cheers! --grin 21:35, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish Press Contact

[edit]

Hi Zanimum!

You posted on my talk page on meta. I'm not sure what information you want me to give to you. My real name is Mats Halldin and I've added my phone numbers and e-mails on a bunch of pages. The story of my life is available in Swedish at Personal details. Just let me know if you want more information.

Hi Mats! Sorry about this, I was contacting all of the largest Wikipedia to find possible press contacts, and forgot to not contact you. I certainly know that you are the press contact for the Swedish Wikipedia. Thanks! -- Zanimum 12:22, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For reasons of accountability, would you mind making this at WP:RFCU? (This has also has the advantage that it will probably get to a better CheckUser than I...) Ambi 03:51, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fredrick banting.jpg.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 00:14, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zanimum. This is quite ancient, but Image:Tv tpir parkinson.jpg is also in need of a source. It looks like a screencap, which probably makes it a poor candidate for fair use in the model's article. ×Meegs 14:12, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

International Wikinews Writing Contest

Just a friendly reminder that meta:IWWC2 started a couple days ago, and you're loosing jokers fast. (have 1 left). Happy editing. Bawolff 14:53, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone's told you about it before.

[edit]

And right now, I'm giving you the same advice:

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. --Slgrandson 23:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
