On Derek Jeters page put that he is a retired shortstop. Not former shortstop. Retired sounds better.

Re. [1] — I didn't see any objections to the updated proposal at WT:EGRS#Defining after the off-topic subsection? --Francis Schonken (talk) 08:46, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Well, just because there aren't replies, doesn't mean consensus has been reached. The edit was previously reverted a couple of times and also discussed elsewhere on that talk page, without consensus being reached. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 09:32, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Incomplete refs[edit]

Please do not insert refs that are bare URL's or incomplete refs- I can't take malformatted refs at the Katy Perry article right now as it is in the middle of an FAC. You are welcome to leave comments there, but please don't insert incomplete refs. As for her ancestry, I was advised to get official biographies when possible, so that's why only the Kimberly Dillon Summers book is used. Yes, she does give her ancestral background in the book. No, additional refs are not needed. Sorry for any misunderstandings, just thought I should explain. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:45, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Also, using the name of a field in both "work" and "publisher" at same time is not proper formatting. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:48, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
If for example one uses MTV in a ref twice, like this:

<ref>{{cite web|url=*insert link*|title=*insert title*|work=MTV|publisher=MTV|date=*insert date*|accessdate=*insert accessdate*|author=*insert author*}}</ref>

It will make MTV appear once in italics and once without italics. The work and publisher are two separate fields. The publisher is the owner of the work. For example, MTV's publisher/owner is Viacom, ABC News is owned by The Walt Disney Company, and AllMusic is owned by All Media Network.
Regarding Summers, her list of references at the end of the book does not at any point cite Wikipedia itself. Many internet refs, yes, but not Wikipedia. There are also other biographers such as Noam Friedlander and Alice Hudson who have books on her. Some biographers are more accurate than others, like for example these three are all more accurate than Chloe Govan's book. As for ancestry, the book talks about her mother's heritage but nothing on her father's. Not sure what is "absurd" or "ridiculous" about saying she has Portuguese or German background. Keep in mind that surnames often suggest certain heritages but do not always indicate one's ancestry. The link you provided doesn't give any information on father's heritage either. In any case, my gut tells me that biographers would be preferred. I'm not saying your ref is bad, but I'm not too sure if FAC would accept it. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:17, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Stop, stop. It's obviously a good reference and one that has actually looked at her ancestry. Anyway, if there's nothing else I'm not sure what else is there to say. The reference is formatted now, which you could have done also if that was such an issue. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:19, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Chadwick Boseman[edit]

Can I ask for your source saying Frbruary isn't correct? As well, your hidden messages are confusing. "February 9 1982 please do not change", then you also put "February isn't correct". I don't particularly find Cinemablend and Ovguide reliable. As well, the Huffington Post has him as "37", as well as a recent magazine of GQ. Rusted AutoParts 21:57, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

My message wasn't confusing, someone changed it afterwards. My message just said that he wasn't born in 1982 nor in February. If you go to Birthdatabase and search for Boseman's name, you'll see the only Chadwick A. Boseman was born November 29, 1976. That fits with some of the sources you cite that say he's 37. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 21:59, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Here's GQ: "You graduate college and then, eleven years later, at 35, you land your first starring role"[2]. Rusted AutoParts 22:01, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that's right. He was born on November 29, 1976. I was the one who changed the date to 1976. Others edited it afterwards to 1982. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 22:01, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Which I now realize. Would you be against me adding November 29 in? Rusted AutoParts 22:03, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
I would definitely like that. It's just annoying because someone will likely change it shortly thereafter. At least there are two of us now. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 22:04, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Laura Hillenbrand revisions[edit]

Hello! One of the references you added to the article on Laura Hillenbrand is behind a pay wall. I could not see what points the citation supported, or anything but that it is part of newspapers.com. If you can see the cited article, perhaps you could use cite web format for the reference to show the title, author, date, publication, access date (when you found the article on line) and perhaps a relevant quote to indicate the reason for the citation for those who have no clue what is being referenced. I modified your other two references with cite web or cite journal format, so you can use those as a guide to the format. The pipe character | starts each term in the reference. If there is a sentence or two that back up the point, use the pipe in front of the term quote= and then the quote. It will show on the page with quote marks, you do not need to add them. If you cannot do that, then I suggest deleting the reference. --Prairieplant (talk) 13:40, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Dating Timeline Correction of Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter[edit]

Just want to relay that Cumberbatch and Hunter have been seeing each other since late 2013 contrary to "early 2014" which the Daily Mail and other rags are reporting and is currently indicated in his personal life section.

NOTE: I know the Daily Mail is not reliable source that's the very reason why the info should be amended because that "until early 2014" was actually information from them. The scans are from People magazine where it says they got together late last year and have been together for a year now before getting engaged. He was even featured on the cover in this week's issue: http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2014/news/141208/cosby-cover-768.jpg. One can always reference a print article here and in this case scans of the interview are available to prove it. That's already two non-tabloid publications referencing the "late 2013" timeline.

Thank you for improving both Hunter's and Cumberbatch's profiles! 31.223.159.213 (talk) 22:35, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Here's a clearer iPad version. If the timeline is confusing it's safe to just indicate that they got engaged after a year of dating like indicated: http://38.media.tumblr.com/3baaf9e7fc0b0fab74807254f444a343/tumblr_nfmwiszdhL1ql37t2o5_1280.jpg 37.208.166.122 (talk) 08:38, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

Taylor Negron[edit]

Just saw your edit of Negron's name at the Taylor Negron article. While I'm glad to have a middle name for him at the article, it's my understanding that we shouldn't really be using the California Birth Index as a reference. It's pretty unreliable and frequently the information contained there is incorrect (my own grandfather's name and his mother's name at the CBI are both misspelled and his date of birth is wrong, for one example). It's actually a raw records dump rather than an official record. I'm only bringing this up because the reference and associated content might end up being removed at some point. -- WV 06:19, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

The record I just added for his middle name isn't a California Birth Record. Rather, it's a public record of residence. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:27, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
My sincere apologies. Yes, you are correct. The CBI reference was already there. Thanks for being kind in your reply and not telling me to get lost. lol -- WV 06:45, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

We have conflicting sources. One that I provided a while ago stated his middle name was Taylor, not Stephen. Rather than discussing, you chose to revert the sourced content I added out and you removed referenced content about Negron's Jewish heritage. This really should be discussed rather than edit warred over. -- WV 01:43, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Do we have to debate his middle name out of custom? His California Birth Record says it starts with an "S" and public records say "Stephen". There really is nothing left to say. As for being Jewish, he often said his father was Jewish, but once said his mother was. And all of Negron's grandparents were Puerto Rican. I doubt any of them were Jewish. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 04:45, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
The CBI is a raw records dump and is not a reliable source (already noted this above last night). The public record website you provided is frequently wrong. Why not just wait until the obituary comes out and we can add a middle name and/or initial then? As far as his heritage being partly Jewish, it's reliably sourced, so it should stay regardless of your personal assessment of whether he could or could not have been Jewish. -- WV 04:52, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
It isn't a "raw records" dump. There might be a typo or whatnot, but the same is true for any set of records/documents. I've been in what must have been several thousand of this type of argument over birth names, dates, and ancestries. What I was arguing for is now displayed on Wikipedia in just about every one of those times - and Wikipedia is more accurate for it (for example, tonight's Golden Globes winner Matt Bomer's birthplace; which I knew was wrong and was finally corrected in 2014). If I've been wrong, and I'm not sure I have been, it would have been once or twice. Frankly, I just don't care enough in this case, so go ahead and make him a half-Jew named "Brad Taylor Negron". You're just wasting your time. But the name is "Stephen" and you're going to have to pick which incorrect version of his ancestry you want to record - was it his father who was Jewish, or his mother who was Jewish, and don't forget to add that he was part Italian and Iranian, which has also been stated in "reliable sources". All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:02, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Citations[edit]

Hi, thanks for your contributions, e.g., adding sources to Meryl Streep and Marion Cotillard articles. Please do not use Bare URLs (as you did in these edits: [3] [4]) as they are subject to link rot; instead use full citations.--Lapadite (talk) 23:20, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

All Hallow's Wraith, please fix your aforementioned errors, and don't remove a maintenance template whose issues have not been resolved. Lapadite (talk) 06:40, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
The maintenance template shouldn't be there if most of the article is already sourced, and if most of what's not sourced is individually tagged with "fact", which it is. Between the 125 citations and the "fact" tags added, the template at the top isn't needed. As for formatting my citations, there's no such onus on me. You could've formatted at least one, or probably more, of them in the time you spent writing to me. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:57, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Please see the article's talk page for the discussion. Regarding incorrect citation, yes there is, provided in the Wiki guidelines I linked, which I assume you read. Bare URLs should not be used and the article may be templated for cleanup and if there is link rot, categorized as such.--Lapadite (talk) 07:08, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
