Lorestan

Amazing job. I'd give you another barnstar for doing that difficult dabbing but I already gave you one! Mmm AFDs. I see what you mean.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:39, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Consensus"

Could you please show me the consensus for your addition to the MOS? Thank you. --Merbabu (talk) 20:14, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I read those discussions (rather the second one). There is no consensus there to change the MOS page that I can see. Please show the specific agreement - it should be on the MOS talk page, otherwise, the (non-consensual) change shall need to be removed. At the very least, you should explain your change on the MOS page. thank you --Merbabu (talk) 22:16, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MoS

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.--John (talk) 22:50, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your warning about an edit war? Who else was warned; wars take two sides. The consensus has been determined at Template talk:Infobox settlement, and what is your evidence to the contrary? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:24, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can see you feel strongly about this. It's quite hard for me to see why you can't see that your behaviour is inappropriate but I'll try. First, whenever you find yourself reverting against multiple editors that is a good sign that consensus isn't where you think it is. Secondly, you can't have it both ways; you are clearly way too involved to perform administrative functions like closing discussions, determining consensus etc. I am equally unable to perform administrative functions here as I have been involved in flag discussions in the past. I think you should pull back from the extreme position you are taking. --John (talk) 08:40, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Carlos.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:49, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive?!

Carlossuarez, you have gone beyond amazing me -- by "warning" me you are actually threatening to block me -- this is an abuse of your position as an admin. Case in point: some months ago you unilaterally add the WP:GEOGRAPHY footnote, and then -- when it is deleted -- you contend that "Project members" discussed the addition. You re-add the footnote with edit summaries that says it was deleted by non-Project members when you, yourself, are not a member of the Project. In any event, the addition of that footnote contravenes the LOCALCONSENSUS guidance! I think your original footnote was an attempted end-run around the MOS FLAG and ICON guidance. I sought to discuss the topic on the Project page, wondering if it was an appropriate location for the discussion. So what happens:

At 04:14 (UTC) 12 Feb, I suggest we move the discussion.
At 19:01 (UTC) 12 Feb, you closed the discussion, based on an invented "consensus" from Project members -- even though not a single listed member of the Geography Project had contributed to the discussion. And you invited editors to "mosey" over to another discussion, even without setting up an appropriate discussion.
At 01:33 (UTC) 13 Feb I invited editors to go to the settlement infobox discussion that I started to hash out the FLAGCON discussion. (And posted notices of the discussion elsewhere.) You participated in that discussion without any complaint about its' location. Moreover, I am the one who researched the numbers as to how many settlement FAs & GAs articles had FLAGCONS on them. And you have used the results of my research to support your arguments. And now you say that I "unilaterally" started a discussion on the GEOGRAPHY talk page and I "unilaterally" moved the discussion?!
Again, the sequence was 1. I suggest moving discussion to more appropriate page; 2. You seem to agree that the discussion should move and close the discussion on the Project page. 3. I set up a discussion on the settlement box page. 4. We seem to reach a consensus on the infobox page. And, 5. As the Project footnote is clearly out of accordance with MOS Guidance, I delete the footnote and I (again) cite the Guidance to support the deleting.

Carlossuarez, the only appropriate course of action for you is to apologize for your abusive conduct and support the deletion of the Footnote.--S. Rich (talk) 23:07, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, your "so what? you gonna sue them, block them?" comment is a snide WP:NPA. E.g., I have declared what my profession is on my talk page and I am not an admin, so the comment is clearly directed towards me and does nothing to improve WP.--S. Rich (talk) 23:14, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We'd rather you kept the lawyering to lawyering that's all and not bring it onto wikipedia and try to impose laws.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:43, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WTF?

To the bigot or bigots who have wikistalked me and vandalized my talk page: rather than anger, I feel pity that your life/lives are so miserable that you get your kicks this way. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:51, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I take it that when you supported the change of the category: Category:Guantanamo Bay prisoners to Category:People held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, you did not do so because it would be less likely for people to think of that when choosing a search term. The obvious question, though, is, did you think of that? I'll agree it is still a fine point, if not equivocal. However, the matter deserves consideration, as this category is more relevant than ever, with the possibility of American citizens being held at Gitmo and consequent media attention thereupon. Anarchangel (talk) 10:26, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CFD note

Note this comment. You may have misread something, I'm not sure. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:22, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back

I've very impressed by the way you stood your ground and were instrumental in making headway over the flag issue. I wasn't certain it was worth it but you've proved otherwise. I suspect that we'll still have problems from time to time but I really appreciate what you did and hope editing will be more pleasurable from now on. Its great to see you resuming anyway.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:05, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Iran county templates

Hi ! Thank you for beginning the great job of creating Iranian county templates. That seems to be a difficult and time consuming task.In the new templates , in the closing lines , after the <noinclude> , if we leave some extra lines , the result will be some lines free . Don't know is it necessary or not . I mean this change : [1] . If the extra lines are unnecessary , then let's change the other templates and the coming ones.--Alborz Fallah (talk) 06:25, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Extra lines does affect the end result display. As an example please compare these two :

ONE : (Without extra lines)

TWO : (With extra lines)

The extra lines are displayed in Qom , but not in Qazvin.--Alborz Fallah (talk) 07:25, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well , I think that is important because I encountered the same problem after I made all templates of Iranian provinces and that caused me to change them all. I looked it up in Chrome and it turned out to be the same as Firefox .
    the view in Chrome
    --Alborz Fallah (talk) 06:02, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mianej, Qazvin has no extra lines because 1-The article has only one box template and 2- I have changed the problematic extra lines in this edit :[2] previously . But as another example try this :

and compare it with

As you see , the Azna County template which still have extra lines , makes three lines empty after it , but Lorestan Province template does not makes any lines empty after it . --Alborz Fallah (talk) 17:49, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you !--Alborz Fallah (talk) 19:51, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article IC 1011‎ has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Iran census Excel

Hi. Good work with the Iran stubs. How many different Excel files links the Template:IranCensus2006? I think we can use WebCitation to preserve that important files. Please, unprotect the template and I will create WebCitation links for all them. emijrp (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

Can you move this for me?

I'd like to move Timothy Cain to Tim Cain, however, this page already exists as a redirect to Timothy Cain. I believe this should be uncontroversial, as the subject is best known as Tim Cain, and all of the sources used in the article refer to him as such. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Saruq District, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Saruq (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Veysi

Hello Carlossuarez46,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Veysi for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Nithin (talk) 22:37, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Followup RFC to WP:RFC/AAT now in community feedback phase

Hello. As a participant in Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Abortion article titles, you may wish to register an opinion on its followup RFC, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Abortion advocacy movement coverage, which is now in its community feedback phase. Please note that WP:RFC/AAMC is not simply a repeat of WP:RFC/AAT, and is attempting to achieve better results by asking a more narrowly-focused, policy-based question of the community. Assumptions based on the previous RFC should be discarded before participation, particularly the assumption that Wikipedia has or inherently needs to have articles covering generalized perspective on each side of abortion advocacy, and that what we are trying to do is come up with labels for that. Thanks! —chaos5023 20:26, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Short pages

Hi. I really want to fix Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs#AWB_reformats_short_pages_contrary_to_norm_and_policy and I'll ask for help. I only need you to provide me some link to documentation or to the manual of style for this. I want to eliminate the possibility that some other editor will come and ask the text to be moved. Thanks in advance, -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:58, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that none would be motivated to fix the issue you say because there is no documentation that covers it. There is nothing in policy, manual of style of short pages documentation to back up your request. Please add some documentation somewhere, then provide us a link so we can fix the issue.

One other thing is that the pages are caught by the bot due to the invisible characters that are introduced. -- Magioladitis (talk) 18:58, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Check Rjwilmsi's question in Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs#AWB_reformats_short_pages_contrary_to_norm. There is nothing in the Manual of Style. do you have a link to provide? Please answer here to keep the whole discussion together. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:05, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's the first time you provide us a link. I added it in the bugs page. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:24, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bug fixed. Check Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs/Archive_21#AWB_reformats_short_pages_contrary_to_norm. Still the template documentation is not in line with the Manual of Style. Rjwilmsi left a comment hoping for a manual update. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:55, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you are an admin, it would be nice if you could move the province articles from "Foo province" back to "Foo Province". Kauffner did unilaterally change this, contrary to Wikipedia practice. NVanMinh (talk) 01:05, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comma vs parentheses

You wrote: "Generally, administrative subdivisions and neighborhoods use parentheses rather than commas to introduce the disambiguating term" - is there any tool to extract all article names that

  • end in " Province" or
  • contain " Province, " or
  • contain " Province ("

to verify your statement? NVanMinh (talk) 01:01, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I found https://toolserver.org/~magnus/catscan_rewrite.php, depth: 1, categories: Departments of Argentina, Provinces of Argentina and templates: Infobox settlement. The is only comma dab, no parentheses. NVanMinh (talk) 00:34, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

I disagree. For example, a disambiguation page with a single person on it, and a couple of objects that are derived from somebody's surname. That, in my opinion, would belong in Category:Surnames but not the one you created. By changing the category they are now wrong, and I don't particularly want to trawl through thousands of articles to find them.

In any case, I don't think you should alter the template without wider agreement from elsewhere. —Xezbeth (talk) 09:15, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
