MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Thanks MatthewVanitas! This is the first real article I've started. I figured I should get it reviewed before making a real version. Maestroso simplo (talk) 16:55, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- No worries! I suggest you upload an image to help depict this work. My understanding is that photos/scans of works that are clearly out of copyright do not themselves constitute a new work unless the taker adds/modifies it. So as I understand it, any photo of this old text which does not have any artistry added to it (i.e. is just a straight-up photo of a page) should be Public Domain. You can upload images at Wikimedia Commons for display here. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:13, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'd like to add an image but not sure what to use. I've number the following images to make this blurb easier to read. Image 1, used here, is protected with this (a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License, BY-NC-SA), which according to Creative Commons license means that it "cannot be used" in Wikipedia. The same website (tcd.ie) also has image 2, used here, and image 3, used here. These two images don't appear to have any licence attached to them. I could probably use image 4, used here, but it's poor quality. I understand if you can't help me. If that is the case, I might just post this on the Wikimedia "Commons: Upload help" page. Disambiguation link notification for February 6
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Aibidil Gaoidheilge agus Caiticiosma, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gaelic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your AfC review of Programming Boot Camp
Hi, Maestroso simplo, and welcome to AfC! Can I ask what your rationale is for accepting this article into mainspace (and rating it C-class)? In my opinion, it reads like an advertisement and is not ready for mainspace. While it does refer to many sources, some of its sources appear questionable at first glance due to their promotional nature. Your accept at Toby Byron I was also hoping you could explain. Not only does it read like an advertisement, it also suffers from multiple issues (which you are aware of) - you added the tags (but then you rated it C-class...). In my opinion, since WIkipedia is a permanent backlog of sorts, I try to avoid using these tags if I can clean it up myself. I also try to avoid using more than 3 or 4, because it looks like an overload to me. If you think the article needed more citations/references, especially as a BLP, I think you should have declined it using verifiability and non-notable. That list of redlinks doesn't really look good to me... just a thought. Perhaps veteran AfC admin Kudpung would like to weigh in? — kikichugirl speak up! 06:58, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Kikishugirl! First off, thanks for your welcome and very kind and polite tone! Also for being so clear and concise in your comment. With regards to Programming Boot Camp I did find a good number of news articles on the topic and decided that it was a notable topic. Many of these news articles seem to be good third party sources. However, it does have a number of issues, which I tagged. It is my understanding that an article doesn't have to be perfect to be accepted. However, I'm realizing now that this article probably has too many issues to warrant its move to mainspace. It needs more improvement first. It sounds like you have much more experience than me on AfC policy. So I would gladly take advice on what to do next. If I don't here from you in the next couple of days I'll move the page back to draft space.
- Yes, what you said about tags makes sense! Moving forward, I will edit with those ideas in mind (namely, avoiding tags and using only a minimal number of tags when they are necessary).
- As for Toby Byron I believe I was too hasty in accepting the article. I just read through WP:Biographies of living persons again and it's clear now that the article has too many issues for mainspace, especially considering it's a BLP. Seeing as questionable decisions should be made by consensus and you already said you think it should have been declined, I have moved it back to Draft space. Also I believe you hold much more weight as a wikipedian compared to me (your thousands of edits to my hundreds) so I'll think twice before disagreeing with you. WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.
In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Bumblebee, a level-4 vital article, to Good Article;
- AHeneen (submissions) worked-up the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 article, also to Good Article status;
- Rodw (submissions) developed an extremely timely article to Good Article, taking Magna Carta there some 800 years after it was first sealed;
- And last but not least, Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points) worked up a number of Featured Pictures during round 1, including the 1948 one Deutsche Mark (pictured right), receiving the maximum bonus due to the number of Wikis that the related article appears in.
You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and fix these small things, too.

The article Sylvie Hoarau has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Non-free images in portal pages
Hi! I'm afraid I've removed the image from Portal:Ireland/Selected article archive/45 again. Wikipedia's rules on the use of copyrighted images are fairly strict; one of them, WP:NFCC#9, is that such images can only be used in articles, never in portals. It's possible that the image could in fact be in the public domain because the book is so old - you could ask the experts at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions about that. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:39, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know. Maestroso simplo (talk) 01:16, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Unblock Request
Maestroso simplo (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. I believe this IP address (38.108.87.20) is blocked because it's an open, public network which anyone can log into. I'd appreciate it if someone could unblock it or at least allow logged in users to use this IP address. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Accept reason:
IPBE added, see comments below. Floquenbeam (talk) 15:40, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

- only, I'm only blocked when I'm connected to McDonald's wifi, which gives me this IP address: 38.108.87.20. I only use the network sometimes. I realize some people who use that network may vandalize wikipedia, but if you only allow logged in users to use that IP address it shouldn't cause a rise in vandalism. (haha, that was a lot of onlys in one message) Maestroso simplo (talk) 22:32, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
