Production

On June 11, 2018, Warner Bros. Animation announced that a new series, which would "consist of 1,000 minutes spread across 1–6 minute shorts", would be released in 2019 and that it would feature "the brand's marquee characters voiced by their current voice actors in simple gag-driven and visually vibrant stories". The style of the series is to be reminiscent to those of Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Robert McKimson, Bob Clampett and others. President of Warner Bros. Animation, Sam Register (creator of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi), along with Peter Browngardt (the creator of Secret Mountain Fort Awesome and Uncle Grandpa), serve as executive producers for the series.[6][7] The series will bring all of the Looney Tunes characters together under one roof, including marquee characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester Cat, Tweety Bird, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, Tazmanian Devil, Foghorn Leghorn, Beaky Buzzard, and Pepe le Pew, supporting characters such as Marvin the Martian, Granny, Hubie & Bertie, and Ralph Wolf & Sam Sheepdog, recurring characters such as Cecil Turtle, Gossamer, Petunia Pig and Cicero "Pinky" Pig and minor characters such as Pete Puma and The Gashouse Gorillas, as well as more obscure characters like The Gremlin.[8] Looney Tunes Cartoons is made using Toon Boom Harmony, with most parts being traditionally animated. A trailer for the series was released on April 21, 2020. The short Pest Coaster was released on May 5, 2020 on the WB Kids YouTube channel as a sneak preview ahead of the release date, but without the intro, opening credits and outro sequences.[9] The short "Wet cement" got released on Youtube so search up "Looney Tune Cartoons wet cement" and you'll find it

Porky Pig is smoothing out some recently laid cement, which of course is still wet, and who should happen to come across the cement but Daffy Duck. At first, he decides to step in it just for fun, perplexing Porky, then uses a pair of stilts, a giant boot, a unicycle, an Eskimo jacket with added snowshoes, a pack of dogs, a Shetland pony drawn chariot, a motorcycle, and an army tank to ruin the cement, angering the pig. Porky then smoothes out the cement once more and builds a brick wall to defend it, but Daffy uses an umbrella to land in the cement and hide in it, much to Porky’s chagrin. Daffy then proceeds to form various statues with the cement, such as a naked model, a footballer, The Statue of Liberty, and a parody of the Disneyland statue. Having had enough of the duck’s antics, Porky hides in a sack to fool Daffy into thinking no body is around and capture him, whereupon the pair dance together against Porky’s will, spoiling the cement once more. Now at the end of his tether, Porky lands Daffy and covers him with the cement, blowdrying it so that he won’t escape. When Porky leaves the area, Daffy laments his predicament by saying "I am one stuck duck".

Bugs accidentally burrows to an amusement park whilst heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although confused at first, he soon begins to enjoy his new surroundings and becomes more ecstatic when he spies a rollercoaster christened the Murderizer. However, when he enters the ride, he discovers that Carnie Sam has a long list of indignant policies, the first and last of which state “No animals” and “No rabbits”, and is immediately thrown out. Undeterred, he disguises himself as a sexy blonde to fool Sam into letting him onto the ride. Unfortunately, Sam sees through the disguise when the wig blows onto the platform and chases him on the coaster, with Bugs changing seats every time he tries to evict him. When Bugs is finally caught, the rollercoaster begins its first drop, causing Sam to literally come out of his skin, leaving only his bones, while the remaining skin gets blown by Bugs into a cornfield for usage as a scarecrow. Infuriated, Sam (having gotten his skin back) decides to use a jetpack and chainsaw to slice Bugs in half, but is subdued by the coaster handlebars and plummets to the ground. He then uses a packet of dynamite to blow Bugs up, but is shocked when Bugs has a baby nephew with him, forcing Sam to drop his cranky demeanour and dispose of the dynamite by putting it in the park’s lavatory. Relieved, Sam breaks the fourth wall by saying that while he despises animals, he would never abuse a minor, deciding to prove it by asking a lady if he can kiss her child, to which she accepts. Consequently, he discovers that the baby is actually the dynamite packet inside the toilet. After the dynamite blows up in Sam’s face, in a turn of events, the lady is actually revealed to be none other than Bugs Bunny himself, and having gotten his revenge on Sam, reveals that the baby was actually a pull string doll.

Reception

The first 10 shorts debuted at Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June 2019 and were met with very positive reactions, being described as true to the spirit of the original Looney Tunes shorts. Movie reviewing site Oneofus.net noted "While only time will tell if these shorts will become classics, they decidedly will be seen as a noble attempt to bring the “Looney” back into Looney Tunes. The cartoons are manic, beautifully animated, and feature amazing voice acting. Even the music tries to recapture the spirit of the originals." Even the characters are doing like what they did in old 30s and 40s shorts.[35]
