Costello question

Hey there Rlendog. Do you own a copy of James Perone's Costello book? I saw you cited him on Stranger in the House (song) and thought I'd ask. If yes I was hoping you could help me out. Thanks. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 19:29, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't own the book. I found it online. Rlendog (talk) 19:57, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Damn. How many pages? I was able to preview pages 1 to maybe 20 on google books but that's it. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 20:41, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think I used Google Books and found what I was looking for so didn't check for other pages. You may be able to see something on its Amazon listing. 21:11, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Ok I'll try that. Thanks man. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 21:27, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I see on your user page that you use JSTOR and I'd like to know more about your experience. By my calculations, a good 70 % of the main JSTOR content is now available for everyone at Internet Archive Scholar, with full text search provided e.g. at https://scholar.archive.org/ . The service is still in beta, but I've used it for some source-finding and it seems quite usable to me; I wonder whether that's just my experience. If you have a chance, the next time you'd be looking for a source on Google Scholar or JSTOR or similar, to perform the same search on IA scholar instead, I'd be curious to hear how it ends up. Thanks, Nemo 19:04, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Brookfield Asset Management edit request to revert non-NPOV edits

Hi Rlendog. I am working to update the article for Brookfield Asset Management, the company I work for. I noticed you are listed at Category:WikiProject Finance & Investment participants and thought perhaps you would be interested in taking a look at an edit request posted by my colleague Mrn helmers. There were some non-NPOV edits recently made to the article which should be reverted. Another editor made some of the requested changes, but I would appreciate if you, a more experienced editor, would take a look at the edit request (which has since been closed by editor Z1720) at Talk:Brookfield Asset Management and revert the edits that you agree are not neutral. Thanks, Mf419 (talk) 13:56, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Neil Young Archives Volume II: 1972–1976

Hello Rlendog,

I see you have recently edited "Neil Young Archives Volume II: 1972–1976".

I'm not a registered wikipedia user/editor but I have noticed an error on this page:

"Like a Hurricane", track 1 on disc 9 is listed as "Recorded at Studio, Broken Arrow Ranch, 11/25/1975." However, according to the booklet included in the box set (and other sources including the wikipedia page of the song: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_a_Hurricane_(song)) the recording date actually is 11/29/1975.

Maybe you can correct that.

Kinks singles

Hi Rlendog! Just wanted to apologize for not getting back to you earlier about the Kinks articles for the Soap Opera singles that were under consideration for deletion. I have not been very active on Wikipedia as of late and hence failed to notice the developments there. Thanks for doing your best to bulk them up--my sources haven't changed much for Kinks info since I created the articles, so I would've been at a loss. I have nominated Fin whale for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. On 23 January 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Scared (John Lennon song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that John Lennon believed that the Rolling Stones' 1978 hit "Miss You" was based on a sped-up version of his 1974 song "Scared"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Scared (John Lennon song). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Scared (John Lennon song)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently been editing gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, which has been designated a contentious topic. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Replaceable fair use File:Yesterday's Dreams single label.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Yesterday's Dreams single label.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In doing DAB fixes today, came across this article. Not being proficient in scientific classifications, I would wonder if you might mind taking a look at the fix I did and make sure it's correct. Thank you. Onel5969 TT me 08:47, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see that UtherSRG took a look at this. He is better with taxonomy than I am so I think you are ok. Rlendog (talk) 14:05, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did a bit of digging and it seems like that genus was split fairly recently. It may even still be ambiguous given that ITIS, for one, still uses the old genus, but it looks like ITIS last reviewed that page almost 10 years ago so the newer genus (which is used by the Mammal Diversity Database) is probably good. Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
