== "I'm feeling lucky" search url ==

We can use the url https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/%s for directly searching from browser search boxes.

This sometimes jumps straight to an article, but often brings up the search results page if there are enough matches.

Is there a similar search URL or search option that always opens the first article in the results? (like Google's "I'm feeling lucky").

The ends of my columns are adding an extra line break

I am adding parishes to the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic_Archdiocese_of_Newark#Parishes_of_the_Archdiocese_of_Newark.

I attempted to make the list into columns because it's quite long. The last item in each column has an extra line break before it and I cannot seem to fix it. Can anyone help please? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobespierreSE (talkcontribs) 00:14, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RobespierreSE: I changed the formatting to bullets to make it match the rest of the article, and changed the template parameters. Check it out. Zachary Kirkhorn

I googled "CFO of Tesla" I got the old one. Wikipedia missed that Zachary Kirkhorn at 34 years old is now the CFO of Tesla. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.20.173.91 (talk) 04:24, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is Google's fault, not Wikipedia's. Tesla, Inc. accurately describes the CFO as Zach Kirkhorn. I recommend reporting the error to Google. Thanks. Darylgolden(talk) Ping when replying 05:13, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
... and it has said so since 2019-01-30, almost 13 months and 1000 edits ago! I wonder what it takes to get Google to re-read an article. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 07:19, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They read it within the last day. The problem is their attempt to automatically extract information from the Internet. The Google search CFO of Tesla shows a box saying "Ahuja, Deepak" and linking to Deepak Ahuja. That probably means Google thinks the article says he is the CFO. The lead says "He is most well known for being the former CFO of Tesla". The infobox says "Occupation Chief Financial Officer" and "Known for Tesla, Inc". Further reading says: Ahuja, Deepak. Tesla CFO Deepak Ahuja discusses Elon Musk and the auto industry – via Vimeo. Google quotes the latter which is the correct title of the linked page, but three years old. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:43, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It can take dozens of feedback submissions and weeks if not months for Google to correct their errors. I just submitted feedback and will check Google as time goes on. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:23, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How do charts that have outdated data get deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 8.40.22.52 (talk) 15:47, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Any chart in particular? Is it an image of a chart or a graph that is coded into an article? If you'd stated which chart it was someone could edit it and update the data, hence no need to delete it. - X201 (talk) 15:51, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I’m pretty sure that the Queen of England was clear. No title associated with Megan Markle. Wikipedia needs to remove the title they have in regards. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.155.218.198 (talk) 17:08, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Which title are you referring to? Please see the section in the article titles, styles, and arms. She is still known as the Duchess of Sussex but expected to not use 'Royal Highness' in the future. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. I guess you refer to the title of the article. It's discussed at Talk:Meghan, Duchess of Sussex#Title of the article. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:03, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please note; There hasn't been a Queen of England for more than 300 years! Elizabeth II is the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or if you'd like to shorten that "British Queen" is acceptable. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:19, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TylerFire235: Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for wanting to add to it. Look at WP:YFA for how to create a new article. This is not an easy task, so the usual advice is to work on improving existing articles until you have some Wikipedia experience before trying to create an article. For learning, there is the WP:TUTORIAL and the interactive learning game at WP:ADVENTURE. RudolfRed (talk) 18:04, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Fixing a reference to a dead/usurped url

{{Cite web}} has a url-status=usurped option which the docs say disable the hyperlink, but apparently this only works if an archive URL is also supplied. The citation I am trying to fix is of a link to a web page which has been usurped by a domain reseller, and I cannot find the original content in any of the web archives I'm aware of.

This is what I have currently:

    {{cite web|url=http://www.transitkings.com/TransitKings/WaitingRoom.html|title=Unknown|type=Transit Kings' official biography|url-status=usurped}}
"Unknown" (Transit Kings' official biography).{{cite web}}: CS1 maint: url-status (link)

I'd like help to (in order of priority) either rescue the reference, or disable the hyperlink.

In the second case, am I supposed to remove the reference altogether if it's no longer on the web (WP:V)?

(Please ping if you reply). --kingboyk (talk) 21:10, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kingboyk: No, don't remove the citation, even if the link no longer works. You can mark it with the dead link template. See WP:KDL. RudolfRed (talk) 21:16, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, we don't normally remove the ref. See WP:Link rot. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:15, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I added information (I think is important) to a page and it was removed.

I added some information to List of Skittles and it was removed. If I can not add the info I would appreciate someone else would add it. (the info I was trying to add was about Skittles Chewies). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 9010shoe (talkcontribs) 21:12, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add a Wikipedia page to the search results box from a disambiguation page

Hi. How do you add a Wikipedia page to the search results box from a disambiguation page? So basically be able to search for something without having to go to the disambiguation page that it's on. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by T Yorke (talkcontribs) 06:13, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I understand your question. Maybe some specifics would help – which Wikipedia article, which disambiguation page, what search string? Maproom (talk) 11:43, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@T Yorke: I guess you refer to the search feature which displays article suggestions while you are still typing in the search box. The list of search suggestions is made automatically and cannot be edited. It does not come from a disambiguation page. It may seem unfair that typing "sponge" only gives Sponge and lots of articles about SpongeBob SquarePants. I think page views is an important criteria and the guy is popular. If you want a band then you can type "sponge band". Sponge (band) first appears after typing "sponge ba". If you know our system with disambiguation in parentheses then you can also type "sponge (", and it already appears. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:36, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you type "sponge" and then click "Search within pages" (in the mobile version) or "containing..." (in the desktop version) then you get a larger list of normal search results where "sponge" is usually a full word. Sponge (band) is on the first page. Help

Hello there, I noticed that some citations used in article Jaggi Vasudev are unreliable, and as per WP:QUESTIONABLE it should be removed. I tried to discuss the issue on talk page, but editors are not replying me.

I have listed the citations here.

Edits to the Mike Adenuga page

    Hello.

I edited the page on Chief Mike Adenuga yesterday and added an appropriate reference for it. The problem is that I've been getting an accessdate error notice no matter what I do, even though it appears as though I've done everything right.

Could someone please help me out? I'm kind of at the end of my tether.

Edit to the Goodluck Jonathan page

    Hello again.

I have just edited the page on Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and I've been unable to include an appropriate reference because "Google.com/amp/" has been put on the blacklist. I've tried three different sources, and they have all caused the site to tell me that their URLs cannot be used.

In frustration, I tried deleting the amp part of the URL just to see what would happen, and Wikipedia accepted the edit without complaint thereafter, but now it's just a link to nowhere as a result.

    Please help. O.ominirabluejack (talk) 09:20, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Google.amp is a URL redirect string. Try the rest of the URL from www. afterwards. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:51, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of a page who is misguiding readers about north east delhi riots.

there is a user named DBigXray. He is spreading false news that north east delhi riots were carried by people with saffron flags in there hand because he wants to spread hatred towards Hindus as saffron flag is the sign of Hinduism instead the riots were started by muslim people who were chanting allah-hu-akbar and were opposing CAA and NRC. 42 people in delhi riots were killed and most of them were hindus .almost 35 hindus were killed by muslim protestors in the riots and an officer of Intelligence Bureau of India was killed by a muslim leader named Tahir hussain who is associated with AAP party of India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadowrecords (talkcontribs) 09:45, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Shadowrecords Wikipedia summarizes what appears in independent reliable sources. Please read WP:TRUTH for more information. If those reliable sources are incorrect, we will need more than just your personal views about it, you will need to present your own independent sources to support your claims. Even then, this does not mean other information must be outright removed. 331dot (talk) 09:48, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Weller, Looking at his promotional bio, ("Wikipedia Expert Writer, Editor & Admin Since 2008 and a LINK to Hire Wikipedia Writers in India") he appears to be a Paid Editor. It seems his quora threads are an attempt to promote himself by badmouthing others, showing off that he is indeed some kind of "Wiki Expert". But most concerning is that he claims to be an admin. If so WMF and Wiki community should be more concerned about his admin bits. ⋙–DBigXray 19:52, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As mentioned before, the best place for these requests is the specific article's talk page. This is not only because it is where people interested in the article and/or general subject might see it and be willing to help, but also to keep discussion about the page archived in a single place. If it is not actively watched, and not answered after a couple days, post a pointer to the that discussion at the relevant WikiProject talk pages listed at the top of the talk page (e.g. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Yorkshire, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Peerage and Baronetage). If you don't get anywhere after a day or three, then bring it somewhere more general (like here). Thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 22:33, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have an account on wikipedia but i received a message saying that i edited a load of stuff which i didn't. I think it was to my ip address. Here's your IP address's contributions on the site. If you're editing from a cell phone, public WiFi, or some other system where an IP address might be shared, then you can assume someone else made those edits (unfortunately, all we can see is the IP address, so we can't). Whatever happens, your ability to read the site will not be hindered, even if someone else on your IP address screws things up enough that you can't edit anymore. Wikipedia claims my username does not exist

I am puzzled why Wikipedia claims my username does not exist, yet allows me to log on, using the correct password. If I try (intentionally) using an incorrect password, Wikipedia does not allow me to log on. If I use the correct password, I am permitted to log on. So my name must be there as a legitimate username in the Wikipedia data basis. And yet my username appears in red, and if I hover my mouse over it, the words appear "page does not exist". Why ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RockWalterson (talkcontribs) 20:30, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RockWalterson, it's saying that a user page in that name does not exist. Just click your name in red above and type something, then click Publish changes. Page will exist. Schazjmd (talk) 20:32, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@RockWalterson: It's your user page, not your username, that does not exist. Not everyone has (to have) a user page, though you may create one if you like (see WP:UP for policies regarding content and use).

LEFT LEANING ARTICLE AND HIDING MAIN CULPRIT OF North East Delhi riots

North East Delhi riotsNorth_East_Delhi_riots The article published by wikipedia is very left leaning and is hiding the truth.IT DOESN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT MAIN CULPRIT TAHIR HUSSAIN..

    Extended discussion- or article-type content

A man identified as Shahrukh has been caught on camera firing eight rounds during the riots. Head Constable Ratan Lal was among the initial few who died due to these bullet injuries. A young Intelligence Bureau Officer, Ankit Sharma, was brutally stabbed 400 times as per forensic reports. His body was recovered from a drain close to a municipal corporator’s house, Tahir Hussain. Videos have surfaced where a large mob had gathered on the terrace of Tahir Hussain’s house and were hurling stones and petrol bombs, Ankit had gone unarmed to assess and plausibly dissuade them from engaging in these activities. He, in turn, became a victim of the barbaric mob. A forensic team has further seized petrol bombs, acid, stones and bricks from Tahir Hussain’s house. Both Shahrukh and Tahir Hussain are currently not traceable.

A 51-year old man was brutally assaulted with his son and killed for simply carrying a “Jai Shri Ram (Glory to Lord Rama)” sticker on his motorbike. A journalist, Akash Napa, was attacked by a mob of protestors opposing the citizenship bill. A young boy, Vivek, had a machine drilled into his head when he showed the rioters his ID card. Several Hindu houses and shops were hand-picked by the rioters and set on fire or vandalised. Schools and petrol pumps were not spared. Acid was thrown on paramilitary forces from the top of houses.

As per early reports, equal number of casualties were reported among both communities. Attempts to portray it as a “pogrom” against Muslims is outright false and display sinister intents at play. The fact is left leaning forces worldwide have never given up their attempts of tainting PM Modi and the ruling party’s image to that of an anti-Muslim jibe. Their latest grouse was India’s Citizenship Amendment Act which was also twisted for purposes of suiting their narrative. The Act, which aims to expedite citizenship process for religiously persecuted minorities from three neighbouring Islamic countries has been projected as (a) Indian Muslims losing their citizenship status and (b) human rights violations of persecuted Muslims in these Islamic countries for failure to grant them the same benefit. India has repeatedly clarified that its doors have never been shut for any immigrant including the Muslims from these countries. They just have to go through the normal process of availing citizenship that any sovereign country entails

The support of western media has bolstered the efforts of Indian left intellectuals, ill-informed activists and certain factions of opposition parties who seem to have a single point agenda of opposing PM Modi. The radical faction of Islam has joined hands with them too. They peddle lies on the act and have managed to create an anticipatory fear among the Muslims – when the facts are pointing against the narrative. When their half baked knowledge of CAA was debunked, they resorted to a narrative on CAA in combination with NRC to wreck havoc on Muslims, when the draft for NRC isn’t out yet. These can just be viewed as efforts to incite the Indian Muslims and urging them to come out on roads to fight for their rights and survival.

In addition, many inflammatory speeches have been making the rounds in the past two months by key leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mani Shankar Aiyer. Opportunistic Muslim leaders like Amanatullah Khan and Waris Pathan reminded Muslims that they ruled India for thousands of years and soon 15 crore Muslims will overpower 100 crore Hindus. They also remembered the Battle of Badr, Uhd and Karbala where the polytheists were killed or converted. Influential Muslim leaders like Faizul Hasan, former Aligarg Muslim University Student Union’s leader, commented that if they wish they can kill lakhs and destroy any country. Small children at the protests were fed that Muslims will be kept in camp and will be deprived of food and clothes. They were also taught to abuse the Prime Minister and Home Minister. Slogans like “Kafiron se Azaadi” (freedom from infidels) were routinely chanted! Sharjeel Iman who led the Shaheen Bagh protests had plans of cutting off Assam from the rest of India. He had admiration for Jinnah – the creator of Pakistan. He believed Muslims stayed back in India to complete the unfinished job. These were narratives and the ways the minds got groomed and influenced that led to the Delhi riots. The vast population of Muslims believed they were fighting for their rights and an imaginary future oppression.

Media houses have not condemned these speeches and remained silent under the garb of freedom of speech. On the other hand, when a BJP leader Kapil Mishra urged the Delhi Police to take action to relocate the protestors who have been disrupting the daily lives of common people thru road blockages etc., it has been widely publicised by national and international media houses as a speech that instigated the riots.

In reality, Trump’s visit to Delhi provided a perfect opportunity to scale up the protests to riots and internationalise the Citizenship issue in the US Congress, European Union parliament and elsewhere. However, it failed to create the required optics, in spite of continued attempts by western media. President Trump considered the Citizenship Act as an internal matter of India. With the devastation brought about by the riots as dozens of lives among Hindus and Muslims were lost and several property and means of livelihood destroyed, the new narrative was to paint them as a “Hindutva” agenda and give a clean chit to the anti-CAA protestors. Whereas the truth is reports have emerged of riots having the backing of Popular Front of India (PFI), an extremist and militant Islamic fundamentalist organisation. Further, a pro-ISIS group had recently launched an India-specific publication, titled — ‘Voice of Hind’ to tap on the volatile emotions/mind-set of Muslims.

Contrast this to the way the terrorists in London were recently eliminated. The miscreants were immediately gunned down as safety and security of a country cannot be jeopardised. The media equally praised the move. In India, the policemen first try to control things with a lathi or a stick and that too is criticised as excess when the media feels a need to protect the affected like when the riots were emerging in Uttar Pradesh post the CAA.

Recently, the Home Secretary of UK has taken measures to contain terrorism and the related outfits. Immigration laws have been modified to a points based system so that the right people can come and contribute to the economy rather than being a burden. These efforts are hailed. But if India decides to take steps for citizenship criteria keeping in mind the security of the land, it’s put under the radar. There is an expectation that India shouldn’t distinguish between illegal economic and religiously persecuted migrants and should probably have open borders with its neighbours. The duplicity of western media and left intellectuals then stands exposed!

    Bob Quaranta article

Hello, I've been adding resources and reorganizing the links. Could you take a look and see if the edits have been done in a satisfactory manner. I'm also wondering if the article could be restored to wikipedia. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dontwantone (talkcontribs) 20:56, 29 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the references are rather poorly formatted, with just a title and a URL. There are far too many "External links" – one is generally enough. Both those issues could easily be fixed. Of more concern is the lack of any references to sources which help to establish that Quaranta is notable. Without that, the draft won't be restored as an article. How to edit labels on the x-axis of Template:Graph:Chart

I'm having trouble adjusting the display of the x-axis on a chart I'm trying to create. Here is what it looks like (wikicode is here - click "preview" to see the result). The labels on the bottom all run together. I know I could fix the problem by increasing the number in the "width" field, but I'd like to avoid that. Instead I'd like to remove all 1Q, 2Q, and 3Q labels so that only the 4Q labels show. I've experimented with replacing 1Q, 2Q, and 3Q entries with a blank space but they seem to be bundling all y coordinates to a single spot on the x axis (namely the first place I used the blank space value on the x axis). What I'm hoping for is something similar to the <span style="display:none"> script that I used to use regularly in tables before it was deprecated. Is this possible? -Thibbs (talk) 02:51, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK I found a truly ugly trick to make it work using the Mongolian Vowel Separator (U+180E). I worry that people without full unicode access will see it as nothing but "" replacement characters, though... I'd still appreciate any suggestions for a better solution! -Thibbs (talk) 05:29, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP user. One of the fundamental principles of Wikipedia is that everything needs to have been published, so that a reader can in principle get hold of it to check (even if that means going to a major library). If you can find a reliable published source that says that somebody marketed Creatine before EAS, you can add that information to the article Creatine. But you cannot put unpublished information into an article: that would be WP:original research.
As for the label: probably not. "Permission" is not usually relevant, as Wikipedia requires that material be free for anybody to reuse for any purpose. This means that the copyright holder must explicitly release the material under a suitable licence such as CC-BY-SA see donating copyright materials. In any case, even if the copyright owner licensed the label and you uploaded it, you could add it to the article as an illustration, but could not rely on it as a reference unless it had been published elsewhere.
Finally, please do not post the same question in different places. --ColinFine (talk) 14:33, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If they are only known under this stylization in secondary sources, then WP:COMMONNAME is usually considered more important than WP:TMRULES (see for example the last move request on Sunn O)))). Wikipedia does not claim to be a reliable source and does not claim to be free of bias. Wikipedia just summarizes what independent reliable sources state and allows the reader to view those sources to judge them for themselves. Any bias in sources will be reflected in Wikipedia. If you have your own independent reliable sources, please offer them- though what an article states should reflect a consensus among editors and what sources in general are stating. Lost my username eratosignis on Wikipedia

I used to edit pages since Feb 2009 under the name "eratosignis" which may have been changed to "Eratosignis" by Wiki software. I've just been locked out of my account which admittedly did have somewhat insecure password; I tried all three current email addresses, but fear that I may have originally used a Virgin email address that has now been discontinued by the Virgin company. Nonetheless, as far as I can see, nobody else has posted under eratosignis or Eratosignis and there is no record of a changed name for the account, so I don't think that my account has been hacked. It is just some mismatch with Wikipedia and what I thought was required for the account.

I'd like to recover the eratosignis account, and post under this name if possible. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eratosignis2 (talkcontribs) 00:33, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Eratosignis2: The first character of usernames is automatically capitalized. You can write it lower case in most places including the login screen but the real name is upper case. User:Eratosignis has not specified an email address in the account. If you don't know the password then you have to use a new account. The account was created in 2006 and made a few edits there before becoming more active in 2009. You can write on the user pages that you are the same user per Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Alternative account notification. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:45, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Translations deleted

    Hi there,

Last week I published 3 translations on the Pontifical Oriental Institute page. I translated from English to Italian, Arabic and Polish (along with many others). Those 3 translations have been deleted, and I'm wanting to know if it's possible to get them back? The translations were provided to me by professors at the Institute, so I am not sure what the reasons were for them being deleted.

Please let me know if it is at all possible to get the new translations back.

The history of the page Pontifical Oriental Institute shows no edit since 24 January. Are you perhaps asking about pages about the same subject in the Wikipedias that are in Italian, Arabic and Polish? If so, you'd have to ask for help there. However, I'll say one thing: Your mention of translation into "many" languages (as well as the three that you specify) suggests that you may have used translation software. If so, the result is almost certainly unsatisfactory; I'd understand it if the Wikipedia of another language deleted a machine translation. -- Hoary (talk) 07:11, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft article ready for publication has no submit button.

Hello. I have a new draft article that I created. The only option I have is to publish the draft. There is no resource to submit it for review as I am seeing is necessary for an article to be published. Also, I attempted to add photos to the article and the photo was not allowed. The upload tool said it could not establish that the photo was copyright free. The photo is from the subject of the article.

The article in question is titled "Wild Sugar" or maybe "Draft:Wild Sugar". I can't seem to remove the word 'Draft" from the title. And when I search for the article it does not come up:

The fact that a photograph comes from the subject shown in the photograph does not show that the photograph either is free of copyright restrictions or is copyleft in one or other way that Wikipedia accepts. Further, your draft has no references. If you somehow managed to get it converted into an article, it would be returned to draft status if you were lucky, deleted if you weren't. -- Hoary (talk) 07:19, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Herebedragons69: The draft is not yet ready for mainspace; it has no references and if submitted will almost certainly be declined. Please see the general notability guide and also the more specific organisational one. Please also see WP:REFB for a guide to adding references. When you consider it is ready for mainspace you can add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the markup. This will produce a review notice; but please be aware there is a current waiting time of up to 3 months. When it come to images, the copyright lies with the photographer. See WP:UPI for more information. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 07:23, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    My birth year

Dear team My Wikipedia page shows wrong birth year. A miscreant tried to change it each time it’s corrected.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/103.18.170.137 That’s the IP address. It’s clearly gives out wrong info and invades my privacy. Kindly help to resolve the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manasi Salvi (talkcontribs) 07:15, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    "I'm feeling lucky" search url

We can use the url https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/%s for directly searching from browser search boxes.

This sometimes jumps straight to an article, but often brings up the search results page if there are enough matches.

Is there a similar search URL or search option that always opens the first article in the results? (like Google's "I'm feeling lucky").
