Name change for touchtennis

The sport is touchtennis. Not Touchtennis. I specifically changed this to reflect the trademarked name for touchtennis.

For some reason, fozzie changed it back.

Your edits were undone as they seemingly did not comply with the way Wikipedia deals with specialised titles. 'Fozzie' has amended the page so the titles display correctly. Well, snooker and baseball are normally "snooker" and "baseball", not "Snooker" and "Baseball"; yet their articles are so capitalized. I'm more interested in the caption "The only certified touchtennisTM racquet". Putting aside the odd "TM" for a moment, should I infer that some company only "certifies" one racquet, which happens to be the racquet that the same company sells? (And "certifies" for or against what, exactly?) -- Hoary (talk) 11:16, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, no, that there caption must surely go. ⁓ Pelagicmessages ) 12:05, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Though terms like iPad have entered general usage, we don't normally copy marketing stylisation in article titles or running text. (But compare k. d. lang with e e cummings.) ⁓ Pelagicmessages ) 12:05, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

how do prevent my article or page from thing such as link rot? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greatboss19 (talkcontribs) 11:54, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Greatboss19: You can use citation templates (e.g. cite web) with the |archive-url= parameter, and submit the web pages to the Internet Archive if they're not there already. See also Wikipedia:Link rot. Happy editing! (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. EB1911

Dear Help desk. I ask for advice because I get into disputes with users from the WikiProject Encyclopaedia Britannica who mass-edit citations of Encyclopaedia Britannica 11th edition (EB1911). I like to cite EB1911 from Internet Archive, but they then "correct" such citations to point them to Wikisource instead.

For example, in the article Thomas Dillon, 4th Viscount Dillon, I cited EB1911 thus:

—in the text:

—and in the source list:

User ArbieP from WikiProject Encyclopaedia Britannica changed it to:

—in the text:

—and in the source list:

I have discussed this with ArbieP on his talk page, but he goes on. I have also had similar experience some time ago with other users from this WikiProject. The essay WP:Mass editing seems to suggest that editors involved in mass edits should seek consensus. Wikipedia seems to have no rule that stipulates that Wikisource should be preferred over Internet Archive or similar providers of texts. It might be that WP:CITEVAR applies because of the template change in the citation from Cite encyclopedia to Cite EB1911. What should I do? With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 13:00, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not really WP:CITEVAR because, under the bonnet, cite EB1911 is cite encyclopedia. There is nothing wrong with your citation pair per se, my only quibbles are that the cite encyclopedia template should not hold |page=392 or the page-specific |url=https://archive.org/details/encyclopdiabri16chisrich/page/392/ because both are already in the sfn template.
Presumably you are WP:SAYingWHEREYOUREADIT so replacing your citation with one that you did not read seems to be a pointless exercise. Except, on the other hand, assuming that the text is identical, in the archive.org facsimile, print bleed-though from page 391 makes the print on page 392 less clear so it is easier, for me, to read the text at wikisource. Perhaps there is a better scan at archive.org that you could use instead of this one?
Courtesy ping: @ArbieP because that editor's name is mentioned in this discussion.
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:11, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Trappist the monk. Thank you very much for your intervention. You are the expert. I understand that you rule that ArbieP is right to correct me because Wikisource's proofread "clean text" is better than Internet Archive's facsimile. I will amend my ways accordingly.—Now about your quibbles: I routinely give a page number and a URL in the inline citation and in the source list. In the given example they are identical, but in the general case they are not as the inline citation gives the page of the relevant passage, whereas the source list gives the page where the article begins. I often scan through source lists of Wikipedia articles hoping to discover an interesting source. If a URL is given, I can click through and read. If not, its absence might deter me from going any further as the source is probably inaccessible. With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 10:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you want to link to the archive.org image-based version? Assuming that particular article has been proof-read, the text-based wikisource version is much more accessible to readers with visual disabilities and should (it seems to me) be used in preference. Chuntuk (talk) 23:18, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Chuntuk, personally, I like the facsimile because it feels like having the precious original in my hands. It also allows me to cite by page, column, and line (but in the example given above I did not) in books with dense multicolumn text where the relevant passage becomes difficult to find on the page. When a quotation is given, the reader can search in Wikisource for keywords found in the quotation. But you and Trappist the monk are probably right that readability (clean text, not facsimile) is prime for the reader. With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 10:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good question from Chuntuk. If the format of a reference gives it apparent authenticity and this weighs more heavily with you than the accessibility of the content, then a facsimile will count for more than clear digitised print. Format and content are not the same, I value the latter. ArbieP (talk) 14:26, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the early days, Most items on Wikisource were transcribed from originals "by hand" from images on other sites. Nowadays, most are transcribed from images that have been copied onto Wikisource from another site and are in dejavu format. These images are accessible to the interested reader so the reader may validate the transcription or just see what the original looked like. To me, Wikisource is better that most of the images, because in many cases (especially for dates) it's easy to miss-read the scan, so you actually have a better chance to get it right with the Wikisource, where one or more transcribers have already looked at it. In the case of the Dictionary of National Biography, the transcription project s:Wikisource:WikiProject DNB used multiple images and picked the best image for each particular page, and in a few cases actually went to the library to look at the hard copy when no scan was acceptable for a page. -Arch dude (talk) 15:20, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Original research reviewing request

Hi, I would like the page Oromia to be reviewed because of MfactDr is consistently presents primary sources that is directly copied from the subject Oromia government, not the federal government. See [1] and [2], for the sentence "The capital city of the State of Oromia is Addis Ababa, also known as Finfinne by Oromia Supreme Court. But he persistently deletes the highlighted "Oromia Supreme Court", despite these sources are primary source and Finfinne is used by Oromia Supreme Court according to them. I told him very well at its talk page to stop editing war and adviced him to search new independent secondary reliable sources for a meantime. However, he continues to insist and reverting many times when I told him these source should be used as claim and not notable unless secondary sources are available outside Oromia related website and authorship, such as international media outlets, BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera etc that are independently published by non-Oromo journalist and pundits in order to neutralize the article. Reliability of Social Blade

Clearfrienda is claiming that Social Blade is not a reliable source. The issue with their claim is that almost every Internet personality's article uses Social Blade to update their subscriber, follower, and view stats. How to determine if an article once existed but was deleted?

I'd like find out if there has ever been an article about Bob or Robert Meehan that has been deleted. ike9898 (talk) 23:52, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ike9898: You can go to Special:Log, select Deletion Log, and then put in the title to search for. I went ahead and tried it, and found that in 2006 someone did try to create Robert Meehan, but the article was blanked and then deleted as non-notable. RudolfRed (talk) 23:57, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My usual method is to enter the title in the normal search box and click the red link at You may create the page "Robert Meehan". This shows the deletion log. @Ike9898: As an administrator you can also use Special:Undelete to search deleted page titles without knowing the exact name. Seven Meehan's have been deleted. NDB Template ref in a sfn template ref situation

Hi Folks, this regards ref 259 of Red Orchestra (espionage). It is a problem of the NDB template being used with sfn. Do I need to specify I could use this url [3] with a cite book ref on [4]. It is volume 7, so straight up cite book and it would work fine. I really don't want Walther G. Oschilewski, pp88–89, showing i.e. the first name. The normal sfn template only uses the surname. It would be the odd one out. scope_creepTalk 00:20, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I want to add svg image to the another wikipedia, how can i download svg file Nguyenquanghai19 (talk) 01:34, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Nguyenquanghai19: Click on the image in a Wikipedia article, Then click on the "details" button on the lower right to get to the file description page for the image. The file description page has a banner line near the top, and the first thing on that banner line is a "download" button. If you then upload the image somewhere else, make sure you add an attribution that includes the URL of the file here. If you fail to attribute, you are violating the copyright. -Arch dude (talk) 03:19, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Nguyenquanghai19:. I note that you contribute to the Vietnamese version of Wikipedia. If you wish to add a file from Wikipedia Commons to an article in that language, you can just add its filename there. The whole idea of Commons is that it holds files that can be used anywhere without downloading/re-uploading them. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:06, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull:. However, some files do not appear on the Vietnamese Wikipedia. The example is File:Vissel Kobe.svg or File:Fenerbahçe.svg Nguyenquanghai19 (talk) 13:30, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Nguyenquanghail9. File:Vissel Kobe.svg is an example of a non-free file. Commons does not accept such files, ever. English Wikipedia allows them, provided their use meets all the criteria in the NFCC - and if you look at the File description page, there is a lengthy justification for having it in English Wikipedia. Some other Wikipedias accept non-free content under their own conditions: others do not. If the Vietnamese WP accepts non-free content then you may upload that image to it from https://www.vissel-kobe.co.jp/ . If it does not, then there is no way to display that logo on that Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 14:56, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to transfer ready-made text from the sandbox into the main page?

How to transfer ready-made text from the sandbox into the main page?Тошболта (talk) 02:14, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Тошболта: First it is absolutely essential that you establish that your subject is notable (WP:N) by our definition, and specifically look at WP:NACADEMIC. You must find several reliable sources (WP:RS) that are suitable to establish notability: this is a higher standard than simple reliability. see WP:CSMN. Please do not attempt to proceed until you have done this, because notability is the one absolute requirement and we have no way to help you make the subject notable: see WP:AMOUNT. After that, you must improve the formatting of your article. Take a look as several articles here at Wikipedia about similar subjects to see how we generally format them. Then, move your sandbox into Draft space (i.e., move it to Draft:Nuritdinova Rakhimovna), and add the following to the top: . This will add a box to the top of your article with a "submit" button. do no use the "submit" button until you think the article is good enough for a reviewer to look at. Reviewers will then tell you how to improve the article, and if you follow the advice they give you, a reviewer will eventually move the article into main space. -Arch dude (talk) 03:12, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Тошболта. You should have the sufficient permissions to be able to move the page yourself to the main space, but I'd personally recommend you submit your sandbox to be reviewed by the Articles for Creation editors by adding to the top of the page. Akuol de Mabior

The article Akuol de Mabior states:

In 2013 she appeared in editorials for City and The Ones 2 Watch and walked in the fall shows for Costello Tagliapietra, the Academy of Art University, DVF, Thom Browne, Mara Hoffman, and Custo Dalmau and in the spring show for Marissa Webb.

Now City (magazine) is about a Finnish free-of-charge magazine for urban cultural life. It is not a fashion magazine, least of all a South Sudanese one. Did she really appear in this magazine, or is there a different magazine named City? I read the cited source, but it didn't specify the magazine any further than its name. @JIP: The best place to ask would be on the article's talk page: Talk:Akuol de Mabior. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 05:07, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JIP: Having said that, a quick Google search found https://models.com/work/city-magazine-akuol-is-the-one and clicking on the "City Magazine" takes you to a web page with a photo of a cover of "CITY" that doesn't look like the Finnish magazine. Maybe it's John McDonald's magazine? GoingBatty (talk) 05:13, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
After looking at one of the covers on the site, I can confirm it's not the Finnish magazine. However, the link on the website to http://citymagazine.com doesn't work as the domain has expired, so I can't find out any more information from there. JIP | Talk 10:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Knowledge Base for our company

Hello,

my boss wants me to look into the possibilities of how to use Wiki for our knowledge base. The knowledge base shall give our customers access.

What are the possibilites? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eminelemenler (talkcontribs)

Eminelemenler As you are editing at the direction of your boss, the Wikipedia Terms of Use require you to make a formal paid editing declaration(click for instructions). Wikipedia has no interest in helping your company enhance its search results, Google knowledge graphs, or knowledge base. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and as an encyclopedia Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself, only in what others completely unconnected with the company choose to say about it. Please also understand that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. There are good reasons to not want one. 331dot (talk) 08:51, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Eminelemenler! It would of course be possible for your company to create its own Wiki website using Wiki software – there are many independent Wikis operating worldwide. You could use open-source (available for free) software such as that which Wikipedia uses, or a proprietary version whose vendors would presumably provide tech support in the usual way. Either way, you would probably need the expertise of your company's IT department to set up and run your "EminelemenlerWiki" which, of course, would have no connection with this Wikipedia project. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.121.162.207 (talk) 09:13, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why was my edit removed?

Hello, I worked to fix some errors several months ago the Sacred Heart University Luxembourg page. I worked with one of your people and they told me if these errors were corrected then I could remove the "This article has multiple issues" box. I did that and then waited several months for the changes to settle and then I just removed the text and then got a message from someone saying "Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Sacred Heart University Luxembourg—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist." Can you explain this please?

Thank you, Johanna

Hello, Johanna.L.Sorrentino. In your only previous edit from this account, you removed the maintenance templates and the infobox from the article Sacred Heart University Luxembourg, without leaving an edit summary or a message on its talk page explaining your actions. This inevitably looks suspicious. The thing to do now, according to BRD is to open a discussion on the article's talk page, explaining why you think your changes are appropriate, and ping Materialscientist to invite them to the discussion. NOte that if you are associated with the University you need to be aware of the restrictions on editing with a conflict of interest; and if you are in any way paid or employed by them, you need to make the mandatory declarations explained at WP:PAID. --ColinFine (talk) 10:30, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An article deleted

Hello Spacebit company had a page called Spacebit (en Wiki). We created a similar page in Ukrainian Days later the En version was deleted Can someone help and explain why that happened? It seems like the Ukr one replaced the Eng one Cause Ukr one was called Spacebit Ukraine and is now called Spacebit (Eng version name)

Hello, Vladyslava Smolinska. There are several misconceptions in your post. First, it is not the case that "Spacebit company had a page" - Wikipedia had an article called "Spacebit", but Wikipedia articles do not belong to, and are not under the control of, their subjects. Secondly, en-wiki and uk-wiki are entirely separate projects, and what happens in one does not generally have any effect on what happens in the other. The articleSpacebit was deleted from English Wikipedia two days ago: the deletion log says "2021-08-21T17:42:29 MER-C talk contribs deleted page Spacebit (G5: Creation by a blocked or banned user in violation of block or ban: Serghiy Hrabarook, sock of someone per WMF lock reason)" - so it was created illegally and cannot be retained. What is your connection with Spacebit? --ColinFine (talk) 10:39, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking further at Hrabarook, I see that this account has been banned from many Wikipedia projects, including en, uk, and ru Wikipedias, for persistent promotion. Wikipedia may not be used for promotion, under any circumstances. --ColinFine (talk) 10:42, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's worse than that. They're a sock of someone banned by the owners of this website, most likely for spamming. MER-C 11:53, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On 12 June, there was a meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un. The Panmunjom Declaration signed during the inter-Korean summit on 27 April pledged to consent to a peace treaty to officially end the Korean War 1950-53 by the end of 2018.

No peace treaty was actually signed by Trump or anyone else but combat ended in 1953. We are not going to claim America has been at war for 68 years with no combat. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:51, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I'm wondering if a page for 'Steven Ford' can be made on the following wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings—Hants

He is a candidate in the coming election, and it would be great if his name could become an editable link that I and others could populate.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peyshaun (talkcontribs) 20:19, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Peyshaun: Ford has to have an article before his name can be linked to it. But without significant media coverage, he's not here yet. Just being a candidate isn't enough - he has to win first, and it has to be a significant position also. See WP:NPOLITICIAN. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 20:35, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Peyshaun: Hi there! First the article about Steven Ford (politician) would be created, and then the link could be added to the Kings—Hants article. Before deciding to make an article (or a draft for the Articles for creation process), someone would have to consider if Ford meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, called "notability". WP:POLITICIAN states that being a candidate for office does not guarantee that they're worthy of an article. Therefore, someone would need to find several independent reliable sources that provide significant coverage of Ford. Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 20:35, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note also that articles about the election do not constitute evidence that a candidate is notable. If the candidate is not notable in his or her own right, entirely aside from the election, mere routine election coverage does not make the candidate notable. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:43, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why Am I Not On Here

Just wondering, I do a search for my name and 15 films or tv shows I am in come up. That is only about 15% of the credits I have but STILL I would think that is enough to have a page on here. SO who decides who tells my story? How do I get on here? Most recently, 5 episodes of season 2 OUTER BANKS (Gavin the pilot). Can you help?

Adam Vernier — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamisinflorida (talkcontribs)

There is no central governing body on Wikipedia to decide who "gets on Wikipedia". Each Wikipedia editor works independently and decides for themselves what to write articles about. If some Wikipedia editor thinks you are notable, they might write an article about you sooner or later. This requires that independent reliable sources have published material about you before. To "get on Wikipedia", you should just keep on continuing your work. Asking for an article about yourself will not help. Lastly, you have to consider whether you even want to be on Wikipedia. Any article about you will not be owned or controlled by you in any way, and will possibly include content unfavourable to you if there is need for such content. JIP | Talk 02:25, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamisinflorida: Hi there! Back in 2019, you created User:Adamisinflorida/sandbox/Adam Vernier to try to write your autobiography in your userspace, but did not include any independent reliable sources. Writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict of interest editing and is strongly discouraged - see Wikipedia:Autobiography. As JIP wrote above, an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. I've added a user sandbox template to allow you to submit the draft for AFC review when you are ready. I also added a heading to the references section. - David Biddulph (talk) 07:31, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kevinlittle71, I'd recommend reading Help:Your first article before proceeding any further: you are going to need to provide more evidence of significant coverage of Mohan in third-party sources in order to ensure that your article meets Wikipedia 'notability' requirements. See Wikipedia:Notability (people) for further details. AndyTheGrump (talk) 07:47, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I add a useful external link show all 500 Plus Traditional Colors of China (https://color-term.com/traditional-color-of-china), for wiki page "Color Term" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_term).

Later, I found page "Color in Chinese culture" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_in_Chinese_culture) is similer topic, so I add the same link (https://color-term.com/traditional-color-of-china). When I did it, the both two link been removed by "Serols".

There are 3 parts to the process of submitting an AFD, but you've missed part of the process. The easiest way of doing it is with a tool such as Twinkle. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:40, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sardaka Yes, Twinkle makes this so much easier. You should state at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Webster (orator) why you think it should be deleted, and it should be added to some afd-lists so people know there is a discussion. LaundryPizza03, can you help with that? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:46, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sardaka, you've left the key page, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Webster (orator), blank; and instead you've written what might go there to Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/John Webster (orator). (Talk pages of AfDs are seldom used and seldom noticed.) That aside, are you confident that your reasons for deletion accord with policy, and have you actually read up on the relevant notability criteria? -- Hoary (talk) 11:08, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sardaka: - I just notified the article creator on their talk page. It's not a strict requirement, but is a nice courtesy to give people a chance to defend their contributions. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 22:41, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hassan Elamragy

I want to publish my project to the public and not as a modern project or a draftAl3mrgy (talk) 11:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You, Al3mrgy, then moved it to Hassan Elamragy. I then deleted it. This deletion was the fourth time it was deleted. As you have been told, you provide no indication that Hassan Elamragy is notable (by Wikipedia standards). He's very young; perhaps wait a year or longer? -- Hoary (talk) 11:33, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You were told that your draft was not fit for mainspace, and yet you moved it there, so it will be no surprise that it has been deleted for at least the third time. Continually recreating it is liable to cause the title to be salted, and may result in your account being blocked for tendentious editing. Please read the criteria for naotability for biographies. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:36, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the fourth time, and I've already salted it. Al3mrgy, you are free to create a draft at Draft:Hassan Elamragy, if the draft accords with Wikipedia policy. See in particular Wikipedia:Notability (sports). If you create a good draft, then a more experienced editor will be able to move it to Hassan Elamragy. However, if there's not much more that you can say about Hassan Elamragy than what you've already said, please don't bother trying to say it: you'd just be wasting your own and other people's time. -- Hoary (talk) 11:43, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anomie Bot

I have had AnomieBot "rescure" certain of my references on articles I am working on. However to me that is a nuisance. In the long run it is extra work for me, to undo what it did. Is there a way I can "opp out" of this feature, where it doesn't do it functions on articles I am working on? This is a recent example. I'll fix my own errors = less work to me overall.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:AnomieBOT is in Category:Wikipedia bots which are exclusion compliant so you can use on the article, but I advice against it. You broke a reference in [5] and AnomieBot fixed it correctly two hours later. There is no way of knowing whether and when you will fix other references you break, or whether you remove at an appropriate time. It may block other tasks by the bot. If you save a page with errors then I think everybody, including bots, should be free to fix it. It sounds like ownership to disallow it. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:56, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I leave it alone. Thanks for advice. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 15:45, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to format image

Hello, I am writing the "Baitoa" article in wikipedia and anytime I insert a thumb image to the left, it goes past the section that the image was typed into and extends to the next section, and at the same time, pushes the text from the subsequent section to the right. What can I do to make sure that the image fits under one heading and does not spill over the next? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noelshafi (talkcontribs) 21:03, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Noelshafi (talk) 21:10, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Noelshafi: Use . Replace "Image" with the file name and "caption" with the image caption. Keep everything else the same. Place it directly under the heading you want it to to appear under. ––FormalDude talk 21:26, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you're saying now. The image extends into the next section simply because the image is bigger than the section that it is in. There's no way to prevent this without expanding the section, or making the image very very small. I'd recommend just allowing it to extend pass that section, but preferably keeping them aligned right rather than aligned left. ––FormalDude talk 21:29, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Noelshafi: you can force the next section to start after the image by adding clear immediately prior to the new section header. The drawback will be that this can leave a large blank space, especially on a wide display. -Arch dude (talk) 21:56, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Noelshafi: You may want to use the clear template right before the next section, if you don't mind a little whitespace before the next section. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:57, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

اربابی دوم Fair use images can be used on English Wikipedia and confusingly they can be hosted directly on English wikipedia, rather than Commons. The main implication of this is, that image cannot be used on any other language Wikipedia/media projects, but then must be uploaded individually/separate per project regulation. reftag.appspot.com

Hi Folks!! Does anybody know if there is any plan to replace the Google Books citation tool. It is currently down and the maintainer has made one in 9 months. Does anybody know if there is plan to replace is, or create a new one? Various people have posted notices to The tech village pump but there has been no response. Up until it went down I used it, very heavily and now its broken it's has now slowed me down considerably. Now I manually build the reference by copying the short url from the page, doing a worldcat lookup on the name and then build it in the editor. Effective but very slow. scope_creepTalk 11:47, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: Hi there! As a workaround, have you tried saving the URL in the article and then using WP:REFLINKS or WP:ReFill? GoingBatty (talk) 16:17, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: How goes it? Thanks for that, but these are not ideal? They are a triage solutions. I think these are good tools when its after the fact, and everybody has left, but they're not designed when your still building the article. ReFill particularly I'm not that keen on. I've seen it geting mixed up on different editions of a book and getting into a fankle that has had to be post-fixed. More work. That is reason I never use it. They are not designed for referencing in real time. If there is not a replacement for the Wikipedia citation tool for Google Books it is going to cut down article creation by 20% to 30%, probably more for bigger articles. It is the one utility on Wikipedia that is critical for most editors. scope_creepTalk 17:02, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: I hope someone else plans to replace the Google Books citation tool for you, or will post an update here for you. I agree that I am only providing triage solutions. image upload

I am trying to upload images our photographer took, but your system is not letting me. What do I have to do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zovargo (talkcontribs)

Hello, Zovargo. Who owns the copyright in these images? The answer is probably the photographer, unless there is a contract or other legal mechanism that specifically assigns the copyright somewhere else. Only the copyright owner has the power to license the images in a way that Wikimedia Commons will accept. If you personally own the copyright, or if the copyright is owned by a corporation and you have the legal power to assign the property of that corporation, then you can upload them yourself, and license them as you do so. Otherwise, whoever does own the copyright will have to upload them, or follow the procedure in donating copyright materials. Either way, the images will be required to be licensed in such a way that anybody may reuse or alter them for any purpose, commercial or not. See image use policy. --ColinFine (talk) 16:54, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
