Resource Request

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself

  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
  • If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

  • Fennel, Tim (August 1992). "The Catsuit". Empire: 47–49.

  • Salisbury, Mark; Burton, Tim (2006). "Batman Returns". Burton on Burton. London: Faber and Faber. pp. 102–114. ISBN 0-571-22926-3.

For Batman Returns. I can find the text of the Empire reference online on fan sites but I can't cite page numbers that way so having the actual pages would be handy. The very generic "Film Review" publication is just not giving me any luck at all getting results.

Royal Geographical Society / Wiley digital archives

A general question: Does the wikipedia library provide access to any archives of this sort? Can the RGS collection be browsed on some site even if its files are paywalls?

@DanCherek: do you know something more about this? – Doc TaxonTalk 12:05, 2. Aug 2022 (UTC)
To my knowledge, this isn't included in TWL (though I am unfamiliar with the source, so I may be wrong). But it looks like my own institution does give me some degree of access to these RGS archives, so @Danny lost: if you have a specific request, I can see if I can get it for you. 2013 Irish Examiner article

Hello. I'm looking for this 2013 Irish Examiner article for my draft on Colin Barrett. I checked Gale with The Wikipeida Library but it doesn't have this article despite having full-text coverage for 2013:

I can't use the Blogspot URL where I found this article as it's unreliable. Thanks! MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:49, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • A search on the site (irishnewsarchive.com) shows this:

I don't think that's the one I'm looking for as A Different Story is by Colm Tóibín. But, it could be a side column of the main article. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 14:49, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I checked Irish News Archive, and it does look like it's on that page you mentioned underneath the article in the Forum section titled: Hard lives, hard truths. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 15:07, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think, page 21 is within the "Preface", but I'm not sure. "Bibliographical references" are on pages 77-78. But I myself can't get this for you. – Doc TaxonTalk 15:24, 25. Jul 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for inputs. Actually wish to find out 'a particular sentence' is being referred by Chaudhry from which particular book and page of reasonably large historian Ram Nath#Works, that's why I am looking for Chaudhry's bibliography.
At page 21 historian Nazir Chaudhry is referring to another historian Ram Nath's sentence ".. absolutely improbable that the grand Mughal emperor would address his married wife as yar .." (as much I could see in google book snippet google books does not give preview for this book), some other media articles too refer to this sentence, but it is unclear from which book and page number of Ram Nath's sentence is cited.
Nazir Chaudhry too is reasonably being referred by other authors so I will prefer to go through his presentation.

Tale type index for Armenian folktales (based on the ATU system)

The work translates roughly to "Index of Types of Armenian Folktales". The work is said to contain 48 pages, but I only need the pages in regards to types ATU 425-449 (section about the Animal as Bridegroom tales), ATU 505-508 (section about the Grateful dead (folklore)) and ATU 707 (about The Three Golden Children (folklore)).

I believe the selected sections will serve to improve articles about Armenian fairy tales, including Habrmani and The Golden-Headed Fish.

Hebrew language resource

From looking at WorldCat, it looks like this may be a difficult request to fulfill, as it shows no libraries in the US that may have it. This are the details of the book:

German-language Catalogue of Romanian folktales by Adolf Schullerus

  • Schullerus, Adolf. Verzeichnis der rumänischen Märchen und Märchenvarianten. Folklore Fellows Communications, 1928. 99 pp.

For Romanian folklore and related articles about Romanian fairy tales.

The work is a preliminary catalogue of Romanian folktales according to the then recent revision of the international Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index (known at the time - 1928 - as AaTh). From this book, I'm requesting the section about tale type 407, "The Girl as Flower" (for The Bay-Tree Maiden); types 425-449, section about the Tierbräutigam (for Trandafiru and The Enchanted Pig), and type 707, "The Three Golden Children" (for The Boys with the Golden Stars and A String of Pearls Twined with Golden Flowers).

Adolf Schullerus [ro]'s book was translated into Romanian in 1966, and, according to some digging up, has not been updated since then, which means the original German-language version (1928) seems to be the most complete catalogue of Romanian tales.

Computer Trade Weekly

Computer Trade Weekly was a British weekly trade newspaper that covered computers and video games, spanning from 1984 to 1998. Although it was a respectable source at the time, it is notoriously difficult to find archives of on the Internet. Out of all the hundreds of issues they had ever released, I managed to find and download exactly one, although granted I might have been able to uncover a second issue had I decided to grind the search engines of Google and the Internet Archive.

For Amiga 600, I am looking for an article about the CeBIT 1992 show that mentions the Amiga 600 as one of the products being released there. This newspaper was reportedly the outlet that broke the Amiga 600 story. There is very little I know about the article. I do not know what issue the article appeared in, let alone the page numbers. Based on the issue I downloaded, it might have been #378. All I know is that it was reportedly published on March 16, 1992. I am betting that the only way I could obtain a copy of the article is from someone who has a physical copy of the issue, so if you have one, please send it. Thanks, FreeMediaKid$ 06:17, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I searched the internet for more details about the newspaper, and searching "CTW" on portal.issn.org, I found out its ISSN: 1355-6142. I hope this helps you as it will help me. FreeMediaKid$ 03:48, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mdaniels5757, thank you so much for tracking this down. I can see that the article is just what I hoped for. However, the PDF that I received by email was just the first five pages of a longer article... it is pages 35-39 and does not include the end of the article; it had appeared to me that pages 35-59 would be required. Resolved

Received in full, and this request is fully resolved. Thank you so much, Mdaniels5757, this helps me get through an otherwise-seemingly-impossible situation of inadequate sourcing, to develop coverage about this oil discovery site, which was just one year after the first major oil well drilled in the U.S., the Drake oil well in Pennsylvania. This one site provided meager yield, but it was a first, and soon after the Florence oil field a few miles to the south was found. It predated discovery of oil in California and anywhere else west of the Mississippi. Again, thanks! --Doncram (talk) 18:59, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Eddie891, thank you for giving me a good direction for further research. But I must admit the link leads to a completely different newspaper. I am looking for the New York Word. This one though is the Evening World. Of course both newspapers were published in New York, and eventually they merged in 1931.--TheDiaboloBoy (talk) 01:54, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My university has microform of the paper you're looking for.
