UiawsbdNicoDude, I would recommend using one of WP:REDWARN, WP:TWINKLE, or WP:HUGGLE. They make it much quicker to revert vandalism and warn users. I use Twinkle. Based on your edits, you seem to be learning how Wikipedia works. Thank you for your contributions, however small, readers will thank you years in the future. Circular Redirect?

A user added a hatnote to the FOSTA-SESTA article, saying "SESTA" redirects here. For the ancient episcopal see, see Diocese of Sesta. But Diocese of Sesta is itself a redirect to Mauretania_Caesariensis#Episcopal_sees and the Sesta entry on that bullet-list links to Diocese of Sesta.

I'm not well versed in redirects, so maybe the circular nature of all that information isn't really important to Wikipedia functionality. But I wanted to ask about it, since it was so self-looping. CleverTitania (talk) 04:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

CleverTitania, I think the redirect is of limited value, but the link in Mauretania_Caesariensis#Episcopal_sees is an interlanguage link to the Italian Wikipedia article it:Diocesi di Sesta as well as the redirect, so the links are not entirely circular. Filing copyright complaints for use without attribution

An individual is using Wikipedia articles without attribution for entire YouTube videos. I wrote most of the material in two of the articles used Big Boy Restaurants and Bob's Big Boy, as well as created graphics also used without attribution. He is attributing the videos only to himself. The videos are just the articles run through a text to speech generator. I'm ready to file YouTube copyright strikes and want to know how to coordinate with Wikipedia, without delay. As usual, Wikipedia help pages are belabored and confusing. How do I proceed? Hi Box73. Unfortunately, I don't think there's really anything to coordinate when it comes to something like this. The copyright over content added to Wikipedia isn't held by the Wikimedia Foundation, except in cases where the content was originally added by the WMF itself as explained in WP:COPY. Individual users such as yourself are going to need to try and enforce your copyright on your own as explained in Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks. You can try emailing or otherwise contacting the WMF about this, but my guess is that it will just respond pretty much the same way. There are some examples of letters that can be sent to websites violating your copyright found at Wikipedia:Standard license violation letter that you might find helpful. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:02, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

I understood there are some problems on the notability of the person, but how do I fix those? I can find many articles talking about the subject, or also interviews. How do I proceed? Hello, Patlor. Your draft has 27 references and every one of them is a line item in an entry list or a results list. These are of no value whatsoever in establishing notability. What is required is references to reliable independent sources that provide significant coverage of this person. @Patlor643 Foreign-language sources are OK if there are no equivalent English ones. The guidance is at WP:RSUE. I suspect that many of the ones you have listed here are based on interviews, so are not WP:INDEPENDENT. In getting drafts accepted, we look for quality, not quantity, so you only need about WP:THREE decent sources that possess all of the attributes mentioned by Cullen328. Incidentally, given that Patrese is Italian, I would have expected there to be an article about him in the Italian-language version of Wikipedia but I don;t see one there. Section-wise footnotes

Country codes: J–K has overall four footnotes for #North Korea, #South Korea and #Kosovo, collected on the bottom of the page. It would be better to have any footnote in the section of each country. This could be achieved by assigning the footnotes of each country to a distinct group and then list that group in the same section. The problem is that the group name will appear in the place of the note and should not be too long and outlandish. "note North Korea", "note South Korea", "note Kosovo" won't really do. Best would be to call it "note" in all places, but it should apply only to the same section. There is an ERROR in your information about RAF BENSON's role in WWW2 . I lived on the former PROCESSING SITE of RAF Benson for 52 years and did a lot of research re:WW2 Photo Recce in the UK. THE Photo INTERPRETATION took place NEXT to my site at the OLD MANSION which IS NOT not in the historic village of Ewelme. There is NO SUCH Building called EWELME MANSION Now or in the PAST. I knew ROY NESBIT the author personally who was a WW2 Veteran and have been in touch with author Tony Spooner who knew Adrian Warburton,who was a WW2 Pilot and Hero in his lifetime who was seconded to another RAF Benson base formerly known as Mount Farm where the USAAF had a base themselves headed by Commander Elliot Roosvelt,son of President Roosevelt who had served with Adrian Warburton during the attack at Taranto. .Warburton tok part in the defence of Malta and was considered a Hero there but forgotten in the UK?? I am Baddegama and find your instructions EXTREMELY COMPLICATED compared to the past and have noticed Errors often. Some I have contacted have told me that I SHOULD NOT REGARD Wikipedia due to these errors . @Baddegama If you can provide a source of the type Nesbit, Roy Conyers (25 June 2009). Reported Missing: Lost Airmen of the Second World War. p. 1–224. ISBN 9781781598580. with the relevant page numbers and whichever of Nesbit's many books is the one you wish to use as a source, then you can put it into the Talk Page of the relevant article to back up what you wish to add or change. You said you have newspaper articles that back up your assertions. In order to cite a newspaper article, you should provide the following information about the article: Name of author, date of publication, title of article, name of newspaper. That allows other people to look up the article and verify that it says what Wikipedia says it says. If you have read a book by Roy Nesbit, and you want to use it to cite information in a Wikipedia article, you would provide the following information: Name of author (Roy Nesbit in this example), Title of book, page(s) being referenced.

So, if you find an error in a Wikipedia article (say, it says something took place in Ewelme when it actually took place in Elwell), you would click on the button that says "talk" at the top of the article you were reading, then you would say on the the talk page something to the effect of "According to Roy Nesbit, in (Name of book), page 83, the name of the town is Elwell, not Ewelme. Can someone help me fix it please?" Possible incorrect way to replace an image

I have a question about this image file from Wikimedia Commons: [File:Michael Weller, author.jpg] found on this web address: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Michael_Weller,_author.jpg#metadata: It appears that the recent “new version” is not a new version, but a completely different image by a different artist, which seems to be a good-faith mistake in the way to replace an image, as it affects the copyright agreement, and authorship claim — the 2nd uploader uploaded a new image without changing the related source/author information. The "article" Sara Sabry was so promotional that it was converted to a redirect. If you click the link to her name, and trace the history, you will find the original promotional content, which I would advise you NOT to try to re-use. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:33, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

@Komorijuno: You were trying to move the article to "mainspace", but you instead moved it to "project space". All namespaces except mainspace are indicated by a prefix word with a colon. The names of articles in Mainspace (i.e., where the actual Wikipedia articles live) do not have a namespace prefix at all. Therefore, you should have moved your article to Dogelon Mars instead of Wikipedia:Dogelon Mars. HOWEVER: you are lucky you made the mistake, because the article is not yet ready for mainspace and it would have been deleted. Now that it is in Draft space again, you can keep working on it and the submit it for review rather than attempting to force it into mainspace. -Arch dude (talk) 15:20, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

I created a draft article on wikipedia, which was rejected due to lack of sources. I have now found an exact copy of my draft on "wikita". I am of course unable to edit it. Your draft was "published" in that you saved it to Wikipedia's servers, but it was not "published" in that it was part of the encyclopedia. Many websites, including wikitia, archive drafts and/or other pages. This is allowed as long as they provide attribution. You agree to this every time you click "publish changes"(including here), as it says above the button, "By publishing changes, you agree to the Terms of Use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL. It is really annoying. I give monthly, not loads, but recurring and what i can afford, but still constantly get asked to donate. If you have no account, Wikipedia has no way to know that the person sitting at your computer/holding your device on your IP address has seen a donation request or actually donated; there is no way to connect donation records to IP addresses(or even accounts). Welcome and thank you for your question about donations! To hide the fundraising banners, you can create an account and uncheck Preferences → Banners → Fundraising. The Wikimedia Foundation does not track the identity of IP addresses, so it doesn't know your age, income level or whether you donated in the past.
None of the Wikipedia volunteer editors here who add and improve content in articles receive any financial benefit. We all simply contribute our time because we care about building a great encyclopedia for you and innumerable others around the world to use.
If you cannot afford it, no one wants you to donate. Wikipedia is not at risk of shutting down, and the Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts the Wikipedia platform and is asking for these donations, is richer than ever.

HTTP 400 Error

Greetings,

I am wondering if there is anyone else that is getting HTTP 400 error while trying to submit changes to articles. I have tried numerous times to submit my edit on one of the articles on Serbian Wikipedia and it has not worked. I've tried both Mozzila and Edge and same error.

I'm afraid that it's unlikely that anybody here can help you. The Serbian Wikipedia and the English Wikipedia are entirely separate projects. They're probably hosted on the same servers, but that's in the domain of Mediawiki, not the individual Wikipedias. I've just been onto sr:Главна_страна with no problem. Data mining to make a chronological list

So, I was wondering if there's a way to use a program to go through a Pagepile of wikipedia articles about individual humans and arrange them chronologically by the category that indicates what year the person was born in, from oldest to youngest. 2602:306:C541:CC60:C067:5D78:17CE:2ACA (talk) 05:02, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

This can be done using a Wikidata query. Wikidata is a sister project that is a structured database and which includes a query language that is easy to use. It has an entry for every Wikipedia article, in every language. I have to re-learn it each time because I use it rarely, but it only takes about five minutes to re-learn. Perhaps start at d:Wikidata:Introduction. Don't get discouraged: you will get the hang of it quickly. You will probably create your "page pile" using a query, and then produce the sorted list based on the date-of-birth attribute. This is not exactly the year-of-birth category. It is almost always more universally and consistently used than the category.

See the note at the top of this page "The Wikipedia help desk is a place where you can ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia". We have a Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science, which would be more suited to this sort of question, but from a brief look at one of the sources [2] cited in our Tetraethyllead article, it doesn't look like the sort of process someone with 'a block of lead' and no apparent knowledge of chemistry should be attempting. Where are you proposing to get lead-sodium alloy from? Or ethyl bromide? Or pyridine? Do you own a temperature-controlled reaction vessel and reflux condenser? And do you have the necessary protective equipment to carry out the process without poisoning yourself? And what sort of 'business' requires the synthesis of the substance anyway? I have no idea if it was something i misclicked on the Preferences section that started this, or a new bug. Hello, СтасС. I am an administrator, and David Biddulph is correct that adminstrators have no special powers regarding content. That being said, adminstrators have a lot of experience. Wormser is clearly notable, so you should continue. The AP/New York Times obituary is a good source, but you need multiple sources. I feel safe in assuming that major French newspapers published more lengthy and detailed obituaries. Many assertions are unreferenced and not verified for readers. The death date is listed as the date of publication of the obituary, but that says his family did not reveal his actual date of death. It is unlikely that it was the same day. Article import from another Wiki

Moin. After being completely confounded by the various help-pages, I am being so bold and just ask here: there's an article in de:wp I'd like to translate and publish in en:wp. As the content is, bar some minor edits and two references, my own work, I'm not overly troubled by a formal import - I can simply re-write the article in english, long as that would be acceptable. Just wondering whether that's so, and if there's any way to confirm relevance - while I might take a couple months to complete my work, knowingly apply to wait some three months or so for the translation to pass through the article wizard does not appeal to me. Hi G-41614. Each Wikipedia project has its own policies and guidelines as well as its own local community assessing and applying its policies and guidelines. There might be many similarities between projects, but there could also be some important differences. Since English Wikipedia has the most articles and also has the largest community, it's policies and guidelines seem to be stricter than perhaps some other projects, and they are also seem to be more rigorously enforced. In other words, an article existing on another one of the Wikipedias doesn't automatically mean it should exist on English Wikipedia as explained in WP:OTHERLANGS, and you will need to be able to clearly establish that the subject meets WP:N for an article about it to be created on English Wikipedia. The translation part is acceptable as long as it's done in accordance with WP:TRANSLATE. The biggest issues with translation tend to be making sure the original source is properly attributed as explained in WP:TFOLWP, but that's not too difficult to do. The other main issue seems to be WP:MACHINETRANSLATION; so, you probably should have a fair degree of competency in the source language if you're going translation any part of the original article. I'm not sure what you mean by confirm relevance, but maybe you mean "confirm Wikipedia notability". Well, thank you all for your input, for the link to the lincoln collection regarding notability, for the Request-page (that's what I sort of had in mind), and finally for the remarks about various aspects when translating. That an article in one WP does not indicate notability in another is the reason I'm asking (pardon me for saying I've seen articles in en:WP that'd never pass the notability hurdle in de:WP, so I'm not going to form an opinion about whether en or de has the higher standards regarding notability). Machinetranslation will not be an issue. If I'm right in assuming you, Marchjuly, are wondering about my competency in German as source language, rest assured my competency in English will be the larger issue, as I'm a german native. At de:WP, we have the Relevanzcheck, a page where one can ask about the notability of any topic and receive an answer about possible notability (not absolute guarantees), and if a topic is definitely not notable, one will be told so in no uncertain terms. Somehow, I wasn't able to find the respective page in en:WP. When I had a question about Nicolay and asked it at en:WP, at least two en-users expressed interest I seeing an article on her at en:WP, so for now I guess I'll check the suggested pages and then proceed at my own leisure. Hi JosuaKylie. What do you mean by discussion concerning an article? Do you mean an Articles for deletion discussion? If that's the case, then the answer is yes since each AFD discussion page doesn't get deleted after the discussion is closed; it's retained for archive purposes. If you mean an article talk page discussion, then that would depend on why the article was deleted. Article talk pages tend to be deleted per speedy deletion criterion G8 when the articles they correspond to are deleted. In order to get such a talk page restored, you will need to ask a Wikipedia administrator to do so.
