Wikipedia:Requests for expansion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 87.102.68.201 (talk) at 15:20, 24 April 2008 (→‎2008). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Almost every article in Wikipedia could do with some expansion - the aim of Wikipedia is to have every article at featured status. This page is for listing those articles of any length for which there is a specific request or longer (non-stub) articles which are still embarrassingly short or insufficient for an encyclopedia of the stature to which Wikipedia aspires.

Articles to list here:

  • Stubs - Articles that are very short. These should be tagged with {{stub}}, or a topic-specific stub tag. Since stubs by definition are tagged as being too short for their subject, the use of the {{expand}} tag on stubs should always be accompanied by a detailed explanation of what needs to be done.
  • Longer articles that still need expansion. Be sure to tag these {{expand}} when you nominate them.
  • Sections in particular need of expansion within an article may be tagged with {{expandsection}} or {{Sectstub}}.

Articles not to list here:

Cleanup needed

Please help remove listings which have already been expanded. To determine this, you can check the article's history tab. Compare the length of the article from when the request was posted here to its current length. If there was a request for expansion of a particular point, see if this was done.

Articles that have been expanded should have the {{expand}} tag removed from the talk page.

In order to prevent this page from getting too long, requests older than six months should be removed from this page entirely. When doing so, please move the comment accompanying the request from this page to the article's talk page, and make sure it is tagged {{expand}}. This ensures that the article will continue to be featured on the opentask list and Category:Articles to be expanded until it is eventually expanded.

Urgent

For the most urgently needed article expansions, it may make sense in addition to listing the article here to find the project page of an appropriate Wikipedia:WikiProject or ask for help from a particular editor who has made contributions in that field before.

2008

Please place new requests at the top of the appropriate list and make the article link bold. Please remember to sign with four tildes (~~~~).

  • Maoricrater explorata - This article is very short in general, I refrain from stubbing the article because I think that there's more info on it than just basic information gleened from a single book. Maybe the gang from WikiProject Gastropods could do some expansion work? Walksonwalls (talk) 00:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Basketball postion - Basketball position names were originally based on defensive, not offensive, positions: Guards were named, because on defense, they were closest to the basket. They "guarded" the basket. Forwards were named because they were the "forward" defenders. Centers occupied the same positions whether on defense or offense. That configuration holds, now, on offense. On defense, however, the guards may now be in the former forward position, and the forwards in the former guard position. Basketball strategy has evolved, yet positions retain their original names, however meaningless those names now are.
  • Petroglyph Games - The article is too short to be able to describe the video game company fully. --Darth Narutorious (talk) 07:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Stephano(Shakespeare) - This article has very short Performance History and Origin sections.
  • Frost line - This article has start to a list of example frost lines but only one example. More are needed from a contrasting variety of world locations. Article could also use a more in-depth explaination of the phenomenon and perhaps more explaination of its implications for building engineering (as article is tagged as part of WikiProject:Civil engineering) 198.175.55.5 (talk) 19:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • GIMP - Please improve the release history table or spin the history off to a new page if it gets too long, similar to that of Firefox. cheers-to-all (talk) 10:26, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • City Year - This very successful non profit organization needs a better wikipedia page that what it has. Been trying to expand this page. needs more meat. i have started elaborating on what the organization does. i haven't touched culture. i can get pictures later.
