Possible future orders

  • Air Algerie is awaiting authorization to place new aircraft orders. The company is considering the purchase of 10 to 15 Boeing 787, the potential order is divided into 5 Boeing 787-9 and 10 Boeing 787-8)[7].
  • Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa are considering the 787 and its competitor, the Airbus A350, as part of their long haul fleet replacement programs[8].
  • Although neither has placed orders for the 787, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have made bids to become part of the 787 GoldCare support program, providing maintenance, repair and overhaul services[9].
  • In May 2007 it was announced that El Al reached an agreement to lease six or seven aircraft from Boeing between 2011 and 2015 after cancelling its option to buy eight Boeing 787 aircraft. It is currently unclear what model these aircraft will be.[10] In July of the same year, it was announced that the airline had entered additional negotiations to purchase two 787's. Boeing has attempted to resurrect the 787 deal as of November.[11]
  • On June 17, 2007 Boeing Commercial Airplanes president Scott Carson said the company was in preliminary discussions with Delta Air Lines, a large operator of the Boeing 767, for the 787. Orders from Delta Air Lines could be up to 125 787 aircraft,[12] and is considered much more likely because of their pending merger with Northwest Airlines. Northwest already has made firm orders for the 787.
  • British Airways is examining the 787-10, along with the Boeing 777-300ER and the Airbus A350, as a replacement for its remaining 747-400 fleet[13].
  • Emirates is in talks again with Boeing about the Boeing 787-10. According to the CEO of Boeing Scott Carson speaking at the Dubai Airshow he said that Boeing was not going to give up against the recent gigantic order by Emirates for 120 A350's. Emirates, if considered, might order at least 65 787-10's with options only if Boeing enters the variant into service. The order could be done in 2008 or 2009[14].
  • Orient Thai Airlines planned to place an order for 8 787-9s in April 2008[15].
  • GMG Airlines, a private Bangladeshi airline, is planning to buy 3 Boeing 787-9 along with 3 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to compete with the state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines[16].
  • On March 11, 2009 Air France-KLM is considering to buy 100 Boeing 787's or Airbus A350's as part of their extensive fleet renewal. (Reference is in French, no English reference available yet) [17]
