  • Optimism should have a separate page that focuses on the philosophical idea of optimism and distinguishes the philosophical view from "positive thinking" and other everyday uses of the word.
  • Philosophy of social science, has some okay points but requires elaboration on Wittgenstein and Winch, perhaps other linguistic critiques, whether logical positivist or postmodernist.
  • Exchange value needs to be redone, it shouldn't be under 'Marxist theory'- although it's an important component of Marxist theory it's also vital for all economics. That said the article's weight on Marx is also absurd.
  • German Idealism and the articles related to it may need to be rewritten or expanded to avoid undue weight on Arthur Schopenhauer.
  • Protected values first section confuses right action and values and needs a copy edit, moving and wikifying
  • Quality (philosophy) needs a more clear explanation.
  • Socratic dialogues could do with some tidying and clarification. See the talk page for one suggested change.
  • Problem of universals: The introductory definition is (perhaps) fixed. But, the article is poor. Check out the German version.
  • Teleology: the article is shallow and inconsistent.
  • Existentialism: the quality of this article varies wildly and is in desperate need of expert attention.
  • Analytic philosophy This is a very major topic, but still has several sections which are stubs, and several topics which are not covered.
  • Lifeworld A philosophical concept that seems to have fallen exclusively into the hands of the sociologists. Could use some attention; it's a major and complex issue in phenomenology.
  • Perception Needs the attention of philosophically minded Wikipedians. This is only the start of an overhaul of perception and related articles.

My point...

...is that the choice for Taipei was made thanks to lot of empty promises, fake informations and so. The jury didn't checked anything and just blindly believed the words of the taipei team, words that are now being disavowed. They offered free accommodation: now it is not free. They declared flights fees from europe from about 850$: they are more than twice the price. They boasted of 450+ beds: they have 250. They bragged about lots of big sponsors: now only one third of them show up, and attendees have to pay real bucks to compensate. They offered free wi-fi for all: not they are not sure.
The result of all this? Foundation will pay more in scholarships for less people. Total costs for all the attendees will be abut 60% higher than for an event in Europe (Alexandria included). The biggest wiki communities, European ones, will be excluded from the event. Check their attendees page, and see from where almost all the attendees are coming. This could be plain and simple a Wikimedia Taiwan meeting, not a worldwide event.
Taipei was chosen for dubious reasons, Taipei's was the bid that offered less compared to others, it lacked critical informations to back the bid (the sponsorships were not even declared openly): the local chapter was not even founded at the time. I expect people to think about the effects of that choice. --Jollyroger 20:05, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, recently there has been a number of accounts being compromised due to weak passwords such as dictionary words being used, while you can continue using the existing password you are advised to change it as wikipedia is currently banning a lot of users who are using weak passwords. GA nomination

Hello, an explanation of what is a good article can be found here: Wikipedia:What is a good article?. I've nominated Peru because I think it currently meets the criteria set out in that page. As for the long tagging it is required to mark as such all articles longer than 32kb per the guidelines set out in Wikipedia:Good article candidates. Peru is currently 41kb long. Greetings, --Victor12 23:24, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

underscore vs spaces

"I think variables should have "_" instead of spaces (learned that at school)." Although you may have learned in school that you should have underscores, with wikipedia, it's unessential and is infact cluttery. To include spaces is more "web 2.0" in that it's xml and php compliant. html compliance would require underscores (or at least prefer) but the general trend on Wikipedia is to keep things "wikified" which in part means the simplest means, and this is really my opinion, but I think spaces are simpler than underscores. I won't change it back, because I'm not that attached to that template, but just adding food for thought. --lincalinca 11:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm... I don't know which infoboxes you often frequent/edit, but all the ones I do use spaces pretty often (granted, I'm usually in music related articles, like WP:ALBUMS or WP:FING and the templates associated with those workgroups are ones I've worked on). Anyway, it doesn't affect much, but from what I've seen, underscores aren't as common. --lincalinca 09:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Peru Armed Conflict.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Peru Armed Conflict.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Peru Portal

Hello, have you seen this: Template:Random portal component? We might use this template in the Peru portal for automated changes on selected articles, bios, pics, etc. What do you think? --Victor12 13:01, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the log, how many articles do you think we need? If we get to 52 in each category (bio, pic, article) we can make weekly changes. --Victor12 18:51, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Peru/Assessment we now have 73 articles, which are FA, GA or B class. I wonder how many of those are bios? Anyway, that's not enough for a year of weekly changes, unless we include Start class articles. BTW, do you know how many featured pics from Peru are there? --Victor12 19:27, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does the Template:ArticleHistory add the article to Category:Wikipedia good articles? If not then surely it is not a suitable replacement. Has your replacement been discussed with the good article WikiProject? They still seem to be suggesting articles be tagged with the Template:GA on their nominations page. Cedars 02:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, I now realize that it is added to Category:Wikipedia good articles if the currentstatus parameter is set properly. If you do want to make Template:GA obsolete you need to update the instructions at WP:GAC. Cedars

Peru GA

At GAC, you left a comment saying that the article looks good. Have you or are you planning to review the article to determine if it is of GA quality according to the GA criteria or were you just leaving a comment? I just wanted to clarify to help determine if it should be removed from GAC or not. --Nehrams2020 23:46, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, comments are well-appreciated. GAC is for nominating articles for a reviewer to determine if they are GA quality. I wasn't sure if your comment was just stating your thoughts on the article or if you had actually reviewed the article to state that it is GA quality. Some editors have in the past only left a comment under the candidate at GAC saying that the article was passed, so I thought that is what you may have done. I apologize if I misinterpreted your comment. --Nehrams2020 06:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if somebody could tell me whether 'Lists are articles or pages. I'm currently editing {{PeruProjectBanner}} but I and when saw the class=list remembered lists can be nominated to featured status, the these are added by all WikiProjects to eg: but also could be added to Category:FA-Class France articles, Category:List-Class France articles, or even to Category:List-Class France pages???

although many wikiprojects don't add pages to the 2 last categories and also they don't have them
take a look at Talk:Cultural depictions of Joan of Arc and Wikipedia:Featured lists --Andersmusician $ 05:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andersmusician, glad to see you are still around!

There are many namespaces to Wikipedia. Amongst them are Article space, Portal, Wikipedia, Template, Special, Image, Category and a couple others. Individual pages are pages in just that general sense.

To answer the questions, lists are in the article space. We have featured articles, lists, portals, and images. Now individual project set up their own consensus on categorization, so that's probably where the confusion occurs. We don't have standards for WikiProjects to maintain the collaborative environment. I'd ask at the projects how they would style the editing. Keep up the good work! Teketalk 05:30, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks a lot --Andersmusician $ 05:32, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing. More to the point: Categories are not considered lists. Happy editing. Teketalk 05:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA reviews

No, you don't have to be an administrator to review articles. I'm currently not an admin and have been reviewing articles since February and have done about 80 so far. The only requirements are that you need to have a user account and must assess the articles according to the GA criteria. If you want to prepare yourself for reviewing, look over some passed and failed GAs and what the reviewers said on the talk pages. I'd recommend looking over a variety of these articles and also reviews by different editors. This is what I did to prepare myself for learning how to review. Maybe start with a short article at first and work your way up. Another thing that helped me to learn how to review was actually developing GAs myself and going through the GAC nomination process to learn what requirements must be met to get my articles passed. After a couple of passed articles, I started reviewing them myself. Whatever method you want to take is fine, and if you ever have any questions about the process, let me know on my talk page and I'll be happy to help answer them if I can. --Nehrams2020 03:59, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suyo's banners

Hello, I've seen your recent edts to Inca empire, in which you added banners for each of the 4 suyos. I must insist on the absence of banners, flags, coat of arms and any other such things in Prehispanic Peru. All such symbols are mere inventions of the XIX or XX century. Please don't keep adding them to this article. Greetings, --Victor12 04:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't registered because I don't want to commit myself to a second project. I don't think I've got the time or energy to work in both sites at the same time. I have some personal projects that I want to work on in the english wikipedia, entering as a full time user at the spanish one would mean less time for them. Besides, now that there are so many people angered at my editing as an IP, I don't want to make them happy by registering. After all, Wikipedia is the encyclopaedia that anyone can edit, ain't it? Odd TfD?

I think it's rather odd that you included Template:FinestraHome3 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) in the group of italian templates...especially since it's not in italian. Since your justification is "just a bunch of italian templates", it makes me wonder if this is a) a mistake or b) trying to sneek one in under the radar. I hope it's the former reason. I'm a bit concerned because when User:Phaedriel built my user page, she built it around this template! I would appreciate it if you would go back and amend your nom, giving the real reason an English template is included with the bunch, when it's clearly not one of the group of italian templates. Spanish Empire

I am the one who changed the coat of arms of the Spanish Empire. I added finally the only coat common to all the period, as resumed coat of arms of the spanish monarchs, representing the Crown of Castile. The first one (is it yours?) belongs to the San Francisco Presidio National Park, in the USA, but it is not representative of a spanish coat of arms.

Semiprotection request

Hello Andersmusician! Thank you for your atention! And you are right, a Semiprotection, impeaching non-registered users of editing the article would be a good idea. The anonimous user in question defends a POV position that the Spanish Empire was, without discussion, the first global empire, wich is contradicted by the previous existence of the Portuguese Empire. Trying not to fall into petty competition, the text now states the the Spanish Empire was "one of the first global empires." I believe this is a good way to put it and it should remain so. Could you, please, ask for the semiprotection? Gracias, hombre! Hasta siempre! The Ogre 16:03, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you stop? First Warning

I even wasn't thinking in your comments. I find all of them Ironic, given your skills and abilities to communicate in English or in Spanish, and more importantly, by your bizarre and documented behavior, that sooner of later will come to hunt you. It is hard not to warn you now, if I have not done it is because, I was assuming good faith and mostly lack of understanding. I was, but not anymore with you. this is very simple and there is nothing personal about it other that you are the person that are assuming that you can do this. It is hard not to see you as a vandal, or should we ask this to chalo or others? Look at yourself and change, and please, I really want you to think about it. Now, I have been nice with you, for what? you have become worst and more and more provocative and argumentative and insolent. Again I am thinking that you might be doing this out of your lack of understanding. But this is simple, you perhaps think that you are right and definitely you are acting upon this train of thought. Therefore, I do not appreciated the way your comments are rendered about my interactions and with your overall input in this Version and in the Spanish Version of Wikipedia. Whereas, I understand your mental and biological development, I cannot support your lack of consideration for other people and for this noble project. However, you are not the only one in here that act in this way, and as you might be having and enjoying support today in here, you will regret to this in the future. It is again not complex or difficult to understand, Bad intentions, they never pay; imposing ideas, will never work. So this is my first and direct warning to you:

Hold on! so tell me, are you Chalo from the spanish wikipedia???--Andersmusician VOTE 22:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I do not think it is blatant abuse. It is located in my own user space, and I have the right to espouse my own opinion there.

As regards it being a joke -- no, I am very serious. In fact, I do not believe that borders should exist. I believe that they are an impediment to the freedom of movement of people and that they go against the basic rules of human rights. I do not see a reason why there should be a checkpoint between Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora -- why can't there just be a road there? Same goes for any other "border crossing". I merely chose the US-México border because that one is most relevant to me in my daily life.

Buena suerte, --Node 03:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I should add that the current "border problem" in the US seems to me to be based almost entirely on racism and classism. "White" Americans are afraid of "brown people", although they will not say so, and they are also afraid of "poor people". In their perception, this is why the border is needed -- to keep "poor, brown people" out of America. It seems wrong to me to base political and legal arguments and decisions that can effect millions of people and families on such flawed and discriminatory ideologies. --Node 03:35, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a (very) light-skinned mestizo, I identify as Chicano. --Node 04:40, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

Hi Anders, do you know if there is some kind of bot we can use to update the new pages section on Wikiproject Peru. Manual updating is a painstaking procedure and often misses several new articles. Greetings, --Victor12 01:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but that's hard to know for me, I just know some bots that recognize thread(section) update (like The "Archives" bots) but nothing more. There's a good link at Wikipedia:Creating a bot which I didn't have time to read yet (I'm on my finals), although, as a final solution, and like most major wikiprojects, to have a weekly delivered signpost is better and easier to develop, my {{PeruNews}} wasn't a good idea at all. Greetings --Andersmusician VOTE 01:23, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not exactly what I meant, actually I was thinking about the Wikipedia:WikiProject Peru/New articles page. Thanks anyway, don't worry about this now, you should be studying instead of editing at wiki... Good luck, --Victor12 01:29, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Green Day-concert image

If you had bothered to take a look at the discussion page, you would have seen that I left an explanation for my removal of the image. As I said, it is a useless image uncapable of representing the band in the article, as they are not even present in the picture. My guesses are that many other people will share my opinion on this.

I hope we can sort this out. Wikiburger 08:30, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I reverted your edits was because most talk pages follow that format that I reverted to. If you take a look at Talk:Avenged Sevenfold, or Talk:My Chemical Romance, the same format is followed. Also take a look at Talk:The Black Parade or Talk:Sum 41. This format is generally followed and the examples provided are also musical talk pages as well.  Orfen User Talk | Contribs 23:48, 7 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Regardless, you shouldn't speak that way to IPs or users. See WP:CIVIL regarding this issue. But it was clearly an isolated incident back in May 19th, was not by any means "vandalism" and the addition of warnings to this talk page are obviously meant to attack. So if the "vandalism warning" template is added again I will personally remove it and ask a third party admin to review the dispute. Thank you.--Jersey Devil 20:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:John-stuart-mill-sized.jpg

Thank you for uploading free images/media such as Image:John-stuart-mill-sized.jpg to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view your previous uploads). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!Richard001 07:51, 24 August 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I knew that the material in German Mexican was a blatant copyvio because it read like a press release, but because I don't speak Spanish, I couldn't be certain. I've been slowly cleaning up the article, but I'm going to delete or dramatically re-write the problem section. I suspect the Mennonite section is a copyvio as well. Some of the photos that had been added to the article were also deleted for copyright violations. Basically, it looks like the whole think was ripped off the web. I think it's worthy of an entry, so I'm going to clean it up dramatically. Thanks again, AlphaEta 06:59, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
